Happened to find this place while looking for a grocery store to pick up some travel items. We're so glad we decided to eat here. It's a cute and cozy eatery with a small menu, but what a wonderful menu it is. The food is so good especially the Grass-fed Filet Mignon Pho. The broth is flavorful and the beef, tender and tasty. The owner was sweet as can be and even helped with giving me advice for where I could find ethnic bakeries. This place is definitely on our "must have" whenever we come to Mountain View.

What a wonderful place to eat Vietnamese food. They are very health conscious, clean, and friendly! Their prices are VERY reasonable! I chose the grass fed filet mignon pho. Gluten free and organic! Not only was it delicious, but also very filling! This is a must go to if you love Vietnamese food!

A nice, quiet place; my go-to for Vietnamese food. They serve a wonderful dish called Vietnamese fish porridge (cháo cá). It's not always listed on the menu, so be sure to ask for it. It's made with sea bass. The fish is cooked until it is flaky and tender, and it gives a rich, umami flavor to the porridge. The porridge is also seasoned with ginger and shallots. It's a flavorful and satisfying dish, especially good on a cold day. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for delicious and comforting Vietnamese food.

Their vegetarian pho is delicious!!! You just had a vegetarian pho in downtown Mountain View Phở To Chau. It makes me miss Big Bites Pho. I went there because it’s closer to me and I was hunger, thought to give it a try. Day and night difference comparing to Big Bites! It left me feeling very unsatisfied!

The best banh mi you can get in the Mountain View area. Everything else is delicious too, but if you're in the mood for banh mi, don't go anywhere else! They also have some delicious tiramisu that's made in-house as well. Don't let the exterior fool you... it's the only bland thing about the place. Plenty of parking for pick-up orders too and they're super fast!

I've got the Saigon Style Seasoned Pork on several occasions and comes out perfect every time. Meat is flavored uniquely and veggies are very fresh. Great place to grab a quick bite.

I had the beef pho, it tasted like what my parents does so it's pretty good. There was an ok amount of meat as opposed to a lot, but I am chalking that up to California™ prices and inflation.

I had the chicken pho and it was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the vegetarian beef sandwich which I had a bite of and I almost went and ordered one for myself. I wish we lived in town because this would be my new addiction.

This was my first time there. I kinda found it by accident. It proved to be a great accidental find! I had the vegan fish sandwich with aioli sauce. The sandwich was really good and it was loaded with vegetables. It tasted so much like fish I had to ask the owner what the fish was made of. As it turned out the vegan fish is made room tofu and imported from Taiwan. I know firsthand that Taiwan is known for making mock meats from soy that taste like the “real” thing. The owners appear to be upgrading the restaurant. So the aesthetics were not quite there yet. But the sandwich I had tasted really good and that was the most important thing for me. I do recommend it for a quick bite (no pun intended). And I also plan to come again next time I’m in Mountain View. Five stars on taste and presentation for me. I hope this review helps.

The long term staff has always been amiable and provide the best bahn mi I've found. The phô is ample and delicious. I often get the seafood phô to go and I can usually make two meals of it. All vegetables are sent in separate bags to stay fresh till serving.

You can really taste the difference with the grass fed filet mignon pho! Food is generally pretty great. And this is a small pro - but their take out containers are all paper/plant based, which is easy on the planet and your health.

A great find in the local Rex Manor shopping mall, home to the neighborhood Safeway. The very friendly owner guided us through the menu options. The pho was delicious, but the portions are very large! Come hungry! Reasonable prices.

Good and very decent Vietnamese food. I go back for the filet mignon pho or the spicy grilled beef pho.

Liked this cafe. Thoughtful vegetarian lemongrass curry tofu- had taro root, cauliflower, carrots, and zucchini in curry sauce, not hot, not too spicy. Really enjoyed the vegetarian pho, veggie spring rolls and wonton soup. Not a fancy restaurant just a cafe with 4 tables.

I love this pho spot, I usually get it to-go but sometimes dine in when I have a chance. I like the selection of desserts, the cookies have large chunks of chocolate chips so it’s a favorite for my mother in law. The drink selection is good, I always crave a guava drink with my pho. The location is convenient next to Safeway and my usual nail salon. I wish they would be open on Saturdays. As for the pho and egg rolls, I love the beef, it is so tender.

This place is fantastic. Fresh food, big portions and friendly service. I never had mock beef before so the lovely lady let me try it before I placed my order. Highly recommended as it offers a great value all around.

Ordered Vegetarian Pho ToGo. The packing was simply superb. Each segment of the noodle soup is well packed. The broth is also vegetarian. Great portions of rice noodle, vegetables and the flavor makers like basil leaves, lime, etc. It also came with hot and sweet sauces. Overall, a yummy Pho.

Came here for the veggie pho... best veggie pho I've eaten in the Bay Area so far. Chock full of vegetables and they provide two thick sauces to flavor it. Yum!

Big Bites is one of those rare spots that just gets it right. Both my daughter and I love the food here. Everything feels fresh, bright, and clean, from the flavors to the presentation. Our go-to favorites are the chicken and veggie pho and the banh mi. The ingredients taste vibrant and thoughtfully prepared, and you can tell real care goes into every dish. I am especially looking forward to trying the curry next. Beyond the food, the service is genuinely warm and friendly. You feel welcomed the moment you walk in, and that makes a big difference. Highly recommend Big Bites if you are looking for fresh, comforting food made with heart.

Their soup base for pho is good. I've had their curry noodle soup. A bit too potatoey, otherwise loved it. Also had the beef soup w carrot. Really tender beef. Super great for take out too. They really take care of the take out packaging. The noodles are cooked just right. It's been surprisingly hard to find a good Vietnamese place after we moved from washington state. Thank you Big Bites!!

This was my first time both at the restaurant and with eating Vietnamese cuisine. I was out running errands yesterday (Thursday, 7/11) and decided to stop for a late lunch. I'm glad I did, too. I guess because I was in between the lunch and dinner hours, there was no one else there, so I had my pick of tables. I will say there is plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside for al-fresco dining. Stepping inside, you're greeted by a bright and open environment--and very clean. The menu seemed diverse to me, but I had no previous experience with this cuisine before. But they have appetizers, sandwiches (bahn mi (hope I spelled that correctly), which was what I chose), bowls (rice and noodle, I think), plus specialty drinks. So, I decided to try the pulled-chicken bahn mi (sans the pate (don't know if that differs from pâté) that comes on all the bahn mi). It also comes with jalapeños, and I don't normally choose to imbibe. However, I decided to take a walk on the wild side and go for an authentic cultural experience (I don't mind spicier foods, but I generally opt for mild or medium dishes), and I never even noticed any spice or jalapeños seeds at all. So, if you don't care for hot foods, I think you should fare well with these sandwiches. Oh, and I also want to point out that the French baguette was great, toasted to a perfect crispness for a pleasing crunch. With my bahn mi, I had a chai lychee iced tea and...wow! This was GOOD! VERY refreshing. The lychee syrup was a bit sweet, but it balanced out my sandwich well. They also have a chai passion fruit iced tea, and I'm eager to return to try it. I'm more of a tea person than coffee (though I do enjoy coffee), and the lychee really hit the spot. On hot days, I can see sitting outside in the shade or by the pool with a tall pitcher of it and being perfectly contented. It was good. The reason I gave my first visit a four-star rating (instead of five) was because of the "music" playing overhead. Call me an old fogey or what have you, but I don't enjoy hip hop (or however that music is classified). The girls singing sound ill, as if they're in pain--NOT melodic--and the guys rapping were dropping f-bombs and "sh"-ing here and there, and, well, that just doesn't make for a nice dining environment, especially if I'd had kids with me. (Eating food while one is talking about sh**ting, regardless of the context, doesn't conjure up palatable images.) That said, that was my only complaint. It doesn't stop me from wanting to return, but it might be a shocker for some people, especially those with kids. (Note: As this was my first visit, I have no clue if this is the music played all the time or just the preference of the person working that day.) But I'll end on a high note and not on a complaint: The people, who work there, were very nice. And, though they were busy getting together a LARGE to-go order (I think they cater), I didn't have to wait long for my food. I give Big Bites a solid A.

Good (if slightly inauthentic) Vietnamede sandwiches. Savory, delicious meat. A solid substitute if you don't want to go all the way to San Jose. Prices are a bit high, $9+ for a large sandwich.

The pho soup isn’t really traditional Vietnamese way, but more of a fusion of Mexican street tacos and pho, with a bunch of purple onion and cilantro taking over the broth flavor. It’s kinda like eating a beef taco, but in the form of the soup.

B
Brett

true to its name, these are definitely big portions. it's about $15 for a bowl of noodles and beef, and while the flavor is spot on it needs to have more sauce and the meat is too dry. still better than average

This is a nice and clean place to sit down for a quick bite or to take food to go. The prices are on the high side for Vietnamese quick eats, but given it’s in the middle of Mountain View I can look past that. However the food itself doesn’t justify the high prices. The Saigon pork banh mi had quality ingredients and had a generous amount of meat. But the pork isn’t as savory as I’d expect in a banh mi. Plus the pickled vegetables weren’t very vinegary at all. There are other items on the menu that I’d like to try. I’ll be back and maybe my opinion will improve.

The to-go pho bowls are delicious and well-packed, but the online ordering system is unreliable, so that averages out to 3 stars. When the order is placed, it sends a text message with a confirmation number and a promise to send another text when it's ready to pick up, but the second message never comes. When I'd show up at the scheduled time, I'd usually need to wait a few minutes, which was OK. But the last time I went to pick up an order (with the confirmation number), all I got was a blank stare, no food. I learned not to trust the online ordering system.

Dr. Manuel Kuehner

Nothing special at all, three stars = "It's okay". In my case the service was quick and friendly. I had a curry and two sodas, together approximately $20. The price was too high compared to the presentation (plastic cutlery, simple restaurant). Also, the size of the meal was rather small.

The spring rolls were just okay. The grilled chicken bowl is the best.

Honestly, I like it. Is it comparable to San Jose pho? No, not really. But it hits a certain level of comfort that is adequate. The pork egg rolls are good, just plain and simple with a bit of sweet and sour sauce. Haven't been disappointed as of yet The seafood pho is my go-to. Comes with a small meaty crab claw, several shrimps, and a slab of cuttlefish. It's got variety and most importantly, it's good. Service here has been pretty good when it comes to take out. Never missed anything essential and everything was carefully packaged.

Ordered some catering from this place to the office and while the portions were large, food wasn’t very flavorful. Ordered the papaya salad with shrimp and the sauce was very mild. Was looking for additional spice or umami fish sauce. Prices for catering are also pretty high and the food quality didn’t quite match up.

I and my co-worker ate lunch here today. Here’s what we thought. The Pros - Clean space Friendly staff Quick service Tasty food The Cons - Too expensive Small portions Thai iced tea was awful The food is good, but the portions are really small. My bahn mi sandwich was much SMALLER than a sandwich I could have gotten at any other sandwich place (For $7 bucks at Subway I can get a larger sandwich, chips and a drink! ), and cost me $15! The Thai iced tea was awful, (You shouldn’t use a store bought chai mix to make it. Yuck!) and again, overpriced for what it was. Pay attention owners, and no, I don’t want you to bother commenting, (As it means nothing and no one is impressed, I'm not going to "call" you as you have asked other reviewers to do.) You could be using that energy to improve your business instead. Be a cut above, fix your portions, fix your Thai iced tea, stop price gouging people, it isn’t nice or fair.

I always pass by this place since I live close by, walking distance. Been living here 3 years now and have not once ate here. Why? The price is always just a bit too high. I would eat here if the price of the pho was 15 instead of 18-19. That's the main reason I have never even tried it once. Hoping the owners read this review and lower the price as places in Sunnyvale and Mountain View hover around the 15-16 range at the moment.

The BBQ pork bahn mi was very expensive and not very good. The bread was overtoasted, the vegetables were lackluster, and the pork was lukewarm, dry, and salty. It was a jaw workout to eat. Service was friendly though.

They *never* get your order right if you ask for anything different (eg. ask for no cilantro and you'll get cilantro). This only seems to be a problem when the owner is there (the other employees don't have this issue) ... but sadly the owner is usually there

Tried grilled pork Banh Mi here and for $15, its not worth it. The grilled pork was dry and definitely pre-cooked and reheated multiple times probably a few days old.

A

Honestly should’ve checked their reviews to start with. Their bahn mis are mediocre at best. And overpriced too. 15$ each when they’re normally 6$-8$. Not worth the price, not very flavorful. Claims they’re authentic but they’re not. I’ve found better sandwiches in Newark, CA. Disappointed.

Pho is pretty white washed, two options beef ball and brisket and filet. Where's the combo? Grilled chicken is added to the curry and cooked in the curry. So the chicken is pretty bland but the soup was good and had taro. Also no bean sprouts, basil, or any sauces. Very wasteful too. Plastic cup, plastic forks, wooden chop sticks. Common you'll wash the metal spoon but not the rest.

Note: this is the brick and mortar store for "Plant-Based Vegan Vietnamese" restaurant, as well as "Big Bites Vietnamese Eatery". They have two separate menus on GrubHub and PBVV is shown as in the Safeway on Google Maps but is not really there. As you can see by the aforementioned note we were all confused when we got here as to whether or not this was the right place. My wife ordered food from GrubHub here earlier in the week and she enjoyed the food, so we decided to go back so that I could try for myself. We each ordered a bowl of Veggie Pho, apparently you can order Faux Chicken Pho off the Plant Based Vegan Vietnamese menu, but it is not on the in-store menu. We also ordered veggie egg rolls and shrimp toast as an appetizer. The food came out quickly and was served with a small paper plate of basil, bean sprouts, limes, and three slices of jalapeño. Egg roll review: crisp outside, mushy inside, standard sweet and sour sauce. Came fresh from the fryer, the crispy outside was the only plus to this dish and didn't carry it very far. Flavor was ok, a bit lacking, too many cellophane noodles making the insides too soft. Generously 2 out of 5 stars. Shrimp Toast: also delivered fresh from the fryer, very crispy outside, but just tasted like frying oil. Dipped in the green ranch(?) tasted better, but did nothing to cut through the greasiness. 1 out of 5 stars. Veggie Pho: broth was actually ok. I prefer regular beef broth, but for a veggie broth it was ok. Plenty of noodles, but too many big chunks of horse carrot! I found myself just eating bite after bite of hunks of carrot that it dominated and took over the flavor of the entire dish and really ruined the bowl of noodles. 2 out of 5 very generously given. All in all the food was not very good and the prices were equivalent to any other Pho house in San Jose, around $15 for a bowl of lack luster noodles, plus more for tasteless fried food. Based on the variety of other Vegan cuisine in the area I would recommend going somewhere else for vegan cuisine. If you are going for Vietnamese food keep driving till you're in San Jose to get your fix.

This place is reminiscent of a Cafe with its walk up order kiosk and delivery of food. Located in the Bailey shopping plaza, one might get dinner and then shop. The dish I ordered, the bun bo hue, came out on a cafeteria style platter and bowl. The portion, relative to the bowl, was small and much of the bowl I filled with sprouts and cabbage. The temperature of my food was lukewarm and it was not spicy like it should be. This place is expensive, $16.95, for my bowl.

Maybe the Bay area just doesn't know good vietnamese food but this place is awful. One wonton in an order of wonton soup? $7 for two spring rolls? The food was bland and I'm almost positive they gave me real beef instead of vegan beef. I ordered mock beef vermicelli and banh mi and the meat was different on each of them. I found fat and cartilage in the vermicelli, so either the most realistic mock beef ever or they gave me real meat.

Order spicy beef soup to go. And the beef soup only has one tiny piece of beef. Looks like leftovers. Full of MSG. Will never go back.
