P&Gs New Paltz Reviews
We went there on a rainy day , the place was so lively and active and gave positive vibes. The service was good. Food options are really nice and worth the price with a very good portion amount First of all, they had like the best ever french onion soup and it literally hit the right spot on that very cold rainy day. We ordered seafood platter and bunch of appetizers we loved all of it
Food is always good, and portions are over the top. The bread is good as it is soft, and comes out hot. We were warned ahead of time that it was happy hour on a Friday night. It was LOUD with a lot of college kids drinking and having fun. The music got unbearable to eat as a family, and we enjoyed the food enough to have fun as we were warned. Excellent job to the wait staff, they did an outstanding job with the service.
Great place! Very reasonable prices! You get your bang for your buck here! Great service and the food is spot on and homeade! Keep doing what you are doing!
New Paltz' cornerstone bar and grill. Good food, drink, service and value
Wow, wow, wow. Got the broiled seafood combo and other than the salmon being over cooked to my liking (asked for medium rare, but it was an bit over medium for sure) everything was fan-freaking-tastic. The waitress was a sweetie, but I think she was the only one working on this Monday evening. The bartender helped her quite a bit which was lovely. We did want a beer, but they were not currently serving alcohol. Hopefully that’ll be all worked out by the next time we visit. We are from Delaware, but we will most definitely be back! Wonderful place for sure!
Came here with a large group (13 of us) on short notice on a Saturday - thankfully they could accommodate. It's got everything a pub should have - cheap pitchers of beer, friendly service, and your usual assortment of fried or grilled menu items. I had a burger that was decent. There were some rowdy college kids, but we were mostly unbothered.
We drive 40 to come to this restaurant. Everything I have ever ordered was perfectly made. Best Onion soup, has a variety of goods to please everyone Love this place!
Been coming here since I got my license, that was 40 years ago. Now that I live in New Paltz I try to get there once a week. Party platter, Chicken BLT, Mac Truck burger or Nachos with Chili is what I usually get. A Guinness is always available and great smiles from all the servers and bartenders. Never been disappointed not once.
Gluten free buns are available. We do go here often. Try to go early because it is a college town. Good service. Good food really never had a bad meal here. Rice pudding is fantastic!
So many great times. Fun menu that's very well prepared, great service. A can't miss New Paltz staple
As a semi-local I had not been here in 20 years. Well I was missing out!?!? Such a home town vibe like Cheers "Where everyone knows your name" Awesome local pub! Go!
Good and reasonably priced food, excellent service and nice, comfortable atmosphere.
Surprisingly good food in a place that's been around for a long time totally recommend it.
Great place! We live locally and go out regularly, and we've been frequenting P & Gs. I recently called to bring in an international team, along with the CEO, for dinner. They gave us a big table and the service was excellent. Just last night, I took my family in on a Friday (my 12-year-old requested it), and even though it was really busy, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and it was HOT. Across the street, we had to send that restaurant's food back MULTIPLE times because it was cold or room temperature. It was nice seeing the owner right at the front door of his busy establishment. This place has been here a LONG time and there's obviously a reason for that.
This place has a nice hometown feel. The server was really attentive and helpful. She recommended a smaller steak for us which was perfect! It came with fresh bread that was super tasty and paired really well with the french onion soup
I live the food the New England clam chowder was nice and thick had clams where you could see them
This is what you would expect. Good traditional American food. I get the same thing with buddies every Monday, which is great. Wings, nachos, and a burger. The Mack Truck burger is amazing. But it should be renamed as a Heart Attack. And the servers are amazing, especially Danielle. She tends to our group, tells us jokes, and even sings sometimes. Ask for her, and you will be happy.
I was told to stop in by some people I know who visit regularly, and finally had an opportunity. The atmosphere is friendly, clean, and not-to-busy. The staff were all so pleasant from start to finish, and the food was just as good as it was described to me. They definitely did not over sell the experience. The quality and value are not to be beat. You owe it to yourself to stop in.
We are local New Paltz residents (we love it here) and P&Gs is our absolute favorite restaurant in town. It can be loud, has slightly uncomfortable seating, but the food, drinks, and atmosphere are unbeatable. The wait staff is always super friendly and just great. We have NEVER had a bad meal or negative experience here. P&Gs is New Paltz!
Love their French dip and the pumpkin espresso martinis were delicious!
Been coming here for years and always have a great time. Food is consistent, drink prices are fair, and we're always well tended to.
Very good comfort all American food. It's a casual environment so come as you are dressed. There is a little but of a wait for seating but once you're sat, it's all positive from there. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and went out of her way to get a bandage when we needed one. The Buffalo wings were amazing, I highly recommend it. The burgers were just as good as well. There's several TVs around the bar viewing different sport and non sport channels.
Been going to P and G's over the past five decades and they only get better. Had lunch today and ordered the Pulled Pork Quesadilla with sweet potato fries. Wow, what a great idea...pulled pork and cheese in a grilled shell? Delicious! Our serving staff was attentive and very nice. Food came out quickly and looked great. My brothers ordered the Club Sandwiches which they loved. A meal for four came to $77. Not bad. This is a great place to eat and drink. Enjoy.
Great delicious good big portions enough to take home for a second meal. Excellent courteous fast service
Lulu was great. Had the chili, half rst beef sandwich and southwestern chicken salad all were delicious
P&G's in New Paltz is a must-visit! The food was seriously amazing. I had the quesadilla, and it was cheesy perfection. But the real star of the show was the Mac salad beyond amazing! Huge shout out to Mike, a very nice gentleman who made the experience even better, and to Francisco, the cook who whipped up that incredible Mac salad. If you're in town, definitely check this place out!😁😁😁
I had dinner at P and G’s for the first time while visiting family in New Paltz over Christmas, and it was a wonderful experience. I was dining with friends who are regulars, and I can see why they keep coming back. The service, atmosphere, and food were all outstanding. I ordered the Chicken Stir Fry special and it was absolutely delicious. One of my dinner companions has dietary restrictions, and our server, Danielle, went above and beyond to make sure she understood exactly what was needed. Even though the restaurant was very busy that evening, Danielle was incredibly attentive, friendly, and engaging—always with a smile. We truly felt well taken care of and I’m looking forward to returning on my next visit to New Paltz.
Great place with casual atmosphere for lunch dinner or even just cocktails in the artsy little Catskills town of new Paltz. My bison burger, soup and hot cider were great on a cold day after visiting the walkway over the Hudson and walk downtown. Been to this place many times and it never disappoints
P&G’s is a true New Paltz classic! The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, the staff are friendly, and the food always hits the spot. Big portions, great burgers, and tasty apps…perfect for grabbing a casual bite or hanging out with friends. Love the historic vibe and the lively energy here. Always a go-to when I’m in town!
P&G’s Restaurant is truly a gem! The staff here are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure you have a great dining experience. The food is absolutely delicious — every dish is full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I love that the menu has such a great variety, so there’s always something new to try whether you’re in the mood for comfort food, something light, or a hearty meal. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a cozy yet lively atmosphere that makes it perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. The restaurant is also very clean and well-kept, which adds to the overall experience. Portion sizes are generous, prices are fair, and the quality is consistently excellent. I highly recommend P&G’s to anyone looking for great food, attentive service, and a place where you always feel at home. Definitely one of the best spots in town!
It's the second time my family and I had dinner there and just as the first we loved it. Very lay back atmosphere, family oriented with a nice old school bar scene. Appetizer Platter, yummy wings and Jalipaño poppers are amazing. Enjoy your visit
This place is a fantastic American restaurant! 🇺🇲 P&G's is an historic diner 🍴in New Platz at Upstate NY! 🗽 This spot serves delicious 🤤 dishes 🍽️ and large portions - definitely try the Nachos with Sour Cream and Guacamole 🥑, Burger 🍔 with Fries! 🍟 Staff 👨🍳 is super friendly and welcoming, service is quick ⏲️, ambience 🎶 is great, and they have plenty of indoor seating!🪑 They also have parking 🅿️ around the block. I wish I could come here more often!
Had dinner tonight, absolutely fantastic. Service was awesome and the food, ridiculous. Everything was delicious. The French onion soup was the best I ever had. I had the chicken and shrimp pesto, very good. The only bad note was the yelling baby. We go out to unwind, relax, and have pleasant evening. I don't want to hear that. Sorry. Everything else was wonderful. We will definitely go back
Amazing place in New Paltz. It offers delicious food and huge portions. I've been there 3 times already and definitely will visit next time I travel to New Paltz. We got one steak (12oz) and shared it between two adults and one kid, who is 13 years old. The steak comes with the bowl of soup, freshly baked French loaf, and two sides of your choice. And it was more than enough for 3 people, just need to mention that beside the steak we ordered nachos, large plate. So for the steak we paid 24 dollars and nachos cost 12 dollars, plus taxes and tips the total was 48 dollars. Great food and portions, perfect prices, and nice service!
Needed a last minute place to eat while in New Paltz and got really great recommendations from locals about P&Gs, so I was really excited to try it. And they were right!!!! Felt bad because we walked in while the kitchen was closing but they did accommodate us and made us feel welcomed. Didn’t think this bar would have good food, but the south west salad was pretty good. The wings were great even though our waitress got our order incorrect but did not like our well done burger, when we asked for medium. Will be back next time I’m in town, hopefully not when the kitchen is closing.
P&G's catered our wedding this year and we cannot say enough good things. The staff and owners are incredibly professional and made sure that no detail went unnoticed. The owners assisted us throughout each step of the planning process and on the day of our wedding, they went above and beyond and exceeded our expectations. From the crabcakes to the maple glazed salmon, carved steak and roasted rosemary potatoes, the quality and flavor of the food was exemplary. If you are planning an event in the Hudson Valley and are looking for a great caterer, we highly recommend P&G's.
Great service! Our waitress was so helpful and sweet and nice! The food was great too. The seafood platter over pasta tasted great. The ice tea was unlimited which was awesome. The food and the price! I highly recommend this place! They kept it clean and made sure people follow proper protocol to keep safe and clean!

My 8th review of this venerable pub since 2019, and 5th five-star rating (the others being solid "4"s). The atmosphere is definitely college bar, with a sprinkling of older locals and a smattering …
The burgers were great! Best in town! Friendly staff. A classic American restaurant with an old school feel.

Decent meal, great staff, great vibe. Burgers here are really good, menu has good variety, classic Pub atmosphere. Cool spot for Happy hours or late nights if you're into that.
The good is good. I love their New England clam chowder. It's Hardy filling and satisfying. Their selection of IPA beers is okay. The service is great the prices are good. One floor they have is when you're in certain parts of the restaurant and has a stale beer smell. But overall it's a good place to go.
Great service and good atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and theres tv screens everywhere showing sports games. However, a majority of the food they serve is very obviously frozen food that anyone can buy at the supermarket. What they lack in quality though they do make up for at least in quantity (and the bread is pretty good)
Ordered for take out. Food was good but they forgot the cheese for our pretzels, which were kind of soggy. Temp was a little more Luke warm even with only a 10 min drive back, but the burger, fries, and mozzarella sticks good. Chicken sandwich a little dry but flavorful
Clam chowder is always consistent. I have been coming here on and off for 30 years. Atmosphere can get rather loud but is expected for a college town staple. Staff are attentive and friendly.
Great post-hike burger and waffle fries. Reasonably priced. Waitress seemed to be having a bad day though and was pretty abrupt/unfriendly. But very satisfied with the food!
We came across this New Paltz institution on the main street looking for sandwich take out to bring to our walk in Minnewaska state park. Lots of options on the sandwich section alone. The portion is filling and made even more with a side included. Although the onion rings were kinda over fried, overall it doesnt disappoint.
Great place for some food and beers. Even better to hang out with some beers and friends in the middle of New Paltz.
Giving four stars because of the clam chowder, calamari and bread loaf. The dinner itself was not the best for the price. The eggplant fries tasted like pure grease. Made me realize eggplant has no place being a 'fry' and the beef was flavorless for being $27. Also, they were playing 2010s club music at 6pm during dinner? Very odd choice of music.
I visited P&G Restaurant during my stay in New Paltz based on a recommendation, and the food itself was quite good. My turkey Reuben with sweet potato fries (pictured!) was a definite hit. What dampened the experience, however, was the unexpected $2 upcharge for the sweet potato fries. Even if a side is included, customers should always be notified of additional costs for premium options. This lack of communication was disappointing. Service also started off on the wrong foot; we waited roughly seven minutes before our drink order was taken, and subsequent refills were slow. While the restaurant was clean, the initial slow service and the surprise charge impacted my overall rating. I do recommend, and yes I would give it another try if I was in the area again. 👍
Up in New Paltz again for my daughter's volleyball tournament. We always stop here for dinner when in the area. However. .it was a Friday night. It's a college town. They do Happy Hour. There was a live DJ playing oldies...and we loved it, but it was VERY LOUD!! Also...the food was not quite as good as usual...but still good. Hopefully next time we go, it will not be another Friday...

The food is good, the service is top and the atmosphere is friendly and cozy. Love their french soup!! miss the fried shrimps taken off the menu.
Home cooked meal feel to the place. A New Paltz institution. Great food at reasonable prices. No reservations. Wait times are minimal when that happens. Pub/tavern atmosphere.

Pub atmosphere with lots of sports monitors. Waitress very friendly and helpful. Food average or below. We got the pretzel sticks as an appetizer and they were nice and hot and cheesy dip was good. Stick to sandwiches or specials. I got the seafood platter which was over fried and minimal in its assortment looked like two fish sticks some very crunchy clam strips and two small butterflied shrimp. Wife got a turkey Reuben which was very good. Sweet potato fries and regular french fries were excellent. Patrons leaving the restaurant stated that the food was very very good. My review may have been colored by my particular food selection.
When the instant mashed potatoes is the highlight of the dish, we've got problems. I liked them because they reminded me of public school. They have ants on the windowsill of the atrium. Burger rolls are stale. Red onion was old; needs to be 86ed or cut a new one. And there was no way the pulled pork sandwich was fresh. Even if it was frozen, it wasn't reheated in a way that makes it palatable. Our waitress was a pleasure. Quick service, bussed her own table. She was friendly and apologetic. I can not remember ever sending a meal back. In all my years waiting tables, I never had a manager refuse to comp a meal when the kitchen messed up. This place used to be a community staple. Now their fighting for customers as they straighten things out with their liquor license. Maybe you need to be drunk to enjoy this food. The wings were good. But those were frozen also. This place is in need of a new manager and some quality control.
Food ok. Nothing to write home about. Bright inside. Staff seemed nice. Potato skins were greasy tasting. Burger was ok nothing tremendous. Parking on street.
The food was pretty decent, but the waitress was far from welcoming, which made me not want to stay. I never had a waitress interrupt me while I was eating to take the salt and pepper away, and not bring it back.... Seemed like she was In a rush to get my friend and I out, even though they didn't close for another hour.... We were never even asked once how the food was, along with the only time we were asked if we needed anything else was when she brought out the check. Needless to say I never want to go there again.
Loved the old fashioned feel and atmosphere! Friendly quick service. Fish & shrimp plates were fairly typical. Chicken pasta was a hit! Wonderful flavor and huge portion! Steak sandwich was cooked just right and very flavorful. Topped it off with the brownie sundae and the berry/rhubarb cobbler. Probably should be a 4 if the fish plates would have been a little better. Still a great historical place for a good bite and a beer!
It was freezing cold and when asked to turn up the heat was told they were not allowed to touch the heat other than changing the direction of the blower. Everyone in our party kept their jackets on or sat on jackets because the seats were freezing. Unfortunately, we didn’t stay longer as we were all uncomfortable. Everyone left with numb feet. It was not a pleasant experience. As usual the staff was great and the food was very good but we will not be back on cold days if you can’t heat the building.
After reading other reviews I thought it would be a great find. Food was ok, the jalapeño poppers was a good appetizer, but my French dip sandwich was a little on the dry side. Service was ok. The best thing was the Peanutbutter Chocolate Explosion for dessert. Probably would return just for the dessert!
One reviewer said "best fish and chips". If you like previously frozen fish sticks with a hard center...maybe they were good. I half expected them to be cold inside. They were really awful - ate half of them. For a change of pace I got mashed potatoes instead of fries. Big mistake. The worst mashed potatoes I've had in years. My wife liked her burger, so hence the 2 stars for food.
Had a poor experience today at P&G's (Memorial Day 2024 ; also my birthday). Place was NOT busy. Waitress took over 10 minutes to come by our table to even take our drink order. My food (cajun chicken sandwich) came cold - had to send back. Potato skins were stale. Mashed potatoes were inedible. Waitress did not come over to offer to refill sodas. Between poor service and lousy food, we had an overall bad bad experience when usually the place has better staff and food. Will re-consider ever going back again.
Went here twice last weekend and my ears were ringing for like 3 days. Music was insanely loud-beyond concert levels. I work around noise, I'm used to loud, but this was reckless. You should be handing out earplugs or just turning it down. DJ kept cutting songs halfway through like he was bored-total chaos. Bartenders were cool, but protect your ears if you go.
Bartender was one of the rudest people I’ve dealt with in a long time. She ignored me for a while and then greets me with “ What do you need? What are you DoorDash or something?”. I replied “No, we ordered for pick up”. With the order right there on the counter, she sucks her teeth and says she has to go “find my order”. The chef comes out (nice guy) and points to it and says”that’s it right there.” He leaves, she snatches it and thrusts it at me and says “Here.” Whole ordeal took so long, the food got cold… People who hate kids shouldn’t teach and people who aren’t friendly or don’t like people shouldn’t be in the service industry. We will never order or eat at this place again because of this woman, which is a shame because the food was pretty solid. Worst service I’ve seen in a long time. With so many other choices on the same street, you’d think they’d be happy for every customer that gave them an order. Smh… really disappointed…
Called to place a small to go order and got told they arent taking order to go because its to busy in there such a poor excuse
the food was so buns. packed flavor. very youtube if ykwim
I used to love this place because of the quality of food an cooking. My last two visits were a huge disappointment:( I don't know what happened, but the dishes I ordered were practically inedible. The ingredients taste like plastic, come from cans and bags and are just thrown on the plate. The icing on the cake was the actual piece of plastic I found in the ranch dressing.
Bartender got mad I was drinking water as the DD. He told me ”I’m not gonna keep serving you water all night” I told him I was the dd he looked lost. Clowns
Waited 1 hour for our food. Server never stopped by table after we ordered our food. We had to get up and ask two people before one person finally asked the kitchen about our food. They said it would be another 20 minutes for our food. We ordered fries as an appetizer and not even those could be brought out sooner. Never had such bad service.
We were finishing eating and we were paying and the waiter comes saying that we would not be allowed to come again if we didnt pay more tip, which is unprofessional and disrespectful, as a young man I dont have enough money to pay tips to every place I go, I think this treatment is not acceptable.
While, I went to eat at P&Gs. The bartender Alexa was very rude to me. She was firstly speaking very fast and when I ordered a sandwich and said “well done” she did not inform me it was a veggie burger. She then told me I must order another meal to get the right order. I don’t want to come here anymore and I am a veteran she didn’t give me the veteran discount the first time I mentioned it to her. I would say the food was cooked well but the service was not well at all.
WARNING : if you are an adult who wants a chill slow good atmosphere vibes DON’T go here This place is only good for drinking and partying NOT FOR a GOOD FOOD Everything they served is frozen products The burger patty was so bad too with old burger buns. Frozen old onion rings : I feel like I’m eating just a pure breadcrumbs Undercooked Chicken wings The place is nice though beautiful wooden tables.
Placed a pre-order several days before Super Bowl. Showed up at the time I was given from them. Wings were not ready, the bartender was rude, and when we received the wings there was *NO SAUCE* despite ordering 3 wings WITH SAUCE!!!!! Absolutely terrible service, hospitality, and quality and will not be dining again. Waste of my money. Save yours and go to another bar
