Amaranth New York Reviews
Grate environment, really friendly and pleasant service….. Relax atmosphere….
Absolutely wonderful. Best onion soup in NYC. Service is attentive and ambiance is lovely.
I hosted a private holiday party at Amaranth and was thrilled with the entire event. They were very accommodating allowing us to customize the menu and handled our guests with allergies graciously. The food was delicious and all of our guests had a wonderful night. The service was friendly from the moment we booked our party and continued throughout the evening. Biljana was especially helpful as our point person helping us with our seating chart and table arrangements so that we arrived to a perfectly set up room. We would absolutely host another event there. We have also been for lunch and dinner many times and the food is always consistently good.
“Amaranth is always a delight—charming and reliable with friendly, professional service. The food is consistently excellent, with a menu that offers great variety and value. A true NYC gem that never disappoints.”
Great service, food and ambiance. My only complaint is there are so many great appetizers it's hard to choose. The grilled salmon with asparagus is my go to main - it's unbeatable. That being said there are a number of other amazing main courses.
Dining at Amaranth was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism that set the tone for the evening. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely welcoming. Now, let’s talk about the food and drinks, which were nothing short of exceptional. Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor, showcasing high-quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. From the appetizers to the desserts, each bite was a standout. The cocktails and wine selection were equally impressive—creative, perfectly balanced, and crafted with care. Amaranth manages to strike that rare balance of elegance and comfort, making it an ideal spot for both special occasions and a memorable night out. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates great food, great drinks, and world-class service.
Amaranth is one of those rare restaurants where everything just clicks. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is outstanding—genuinely attentive without ever feeling forced. A special shoutout to Christian, who goes above and beyond to make every visit feel memorable. His kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail truly elevate the experience. The food is consistently excellent. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic pasta, a fresh salad, or a more indulgent main, every dish is beautifully prepared and full of flavor. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Amaranth gets the fundamentals right—great food, exceptional service, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to come back. It’s a place that feels both special and comfortable.
Cozy little bistro on E 62nd just off of Madison. Great for lunch or dinner for 2 or 4. Tight for larger parties - reservations recommended but they are on Open Table. White table cloth and staffed accordingly. Overall very good food and service, priced in line with quality. I would go back. The Bolognese is pictured below.
It’s a cute restaurant with outdoor seating — they say it’s Mediterranean, but it gives more of a French vibe. We came during the in-between hours of brunch and lunch, and I couldn’t find much on the menu that appealed to me, so I just ordered soup. The service, though, was disappointing — it took about 10 minutes just to get water, then another wait for the menu, and even longer for someone to take my order. Because of the poor treatment, I honestly didn’t want to order anything at all. I only stayed and got the soup because we were already seated and I was hungry. Overall, just an average experienc
Locals like this place for its convenience. The red lights and wreaths adds a tad of festivity. SEATING IS RATHER SNUG SO BEWARE OF WHAT YOU SHARE. THE risotto with crab and peas was so so. So so risotto is kind of sad. Even I could have stirred up a better concoction. The cheeseburger is very good EXCEPT for the condiments they provide. Watery ketchup is a no no on such a tasty burger. Why skimp on quality condiments when the burger is made of quality beef. WHY RUIN IT! Why not spend the extra bucks or make their own. Now the pavlova. Great presentation but the meringue was tough. Does that mean the meringue was old? This time of year berries need a little sprucing up. A soaking in sugar water or maybe whip up a fruit puree with a smidgeon of sugar to give this some extra zip. Was it bad-no, was it so so -YES. So if you are looking for a so so lunch then you found the place. Why as New Yorkers do we put up with so so, but maybe we are SO used to it. The staff here is friendly and amiable. Maybe, we come because of the staff. Feliz Navidad, Prospero Año Nuevo.
We had Thanksgiving dinner here yesterday, and while the service was excellent, the food was incredibly disappointing. I ordered the salmon with asparagus and dill sauce. Unfortunately, the salmon was so dry and overcooked that I nearly choked on it. The “dill sauce” was nowhere to be found; instead, there was a puddle of what tasted like cheap bottled mayonnaise on top of the asparagus. I rarely send dishes back, but this one absolutely deserved to be returned—especially at this price point. My son ordered the Wagyu burger, which arrived on a store-bought bun with sloppy lettuce and completely overcooked, dry meat, despite being ordered medium rare. For something advertised as Wagyu, it was truly underwhelming. I honestly don’t understand where all the high ratings come from. Our food was low quality and poorly prepared, which is a shame because the ambiance itself is cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning. At these prices, there are far better restaurants that actually deliver on what they charge for. Can't charge what you don’t deliver.
Horrendous experience here. Male worker in a grey suit, presumably the manager was so incredibly rude. I sat down for a light lunch of French onion soup and he asked “is that all?” And I replied yes is that ok. He looked me up and down and said “usually not”. ???. Why can’t I order a light lunch? Why must I spend 40$ on a main when I simply am I not that hungry? I reserve the right to be treated with respect for simply ordering a light lunch. I cancelled my order, got up and left. I cannot believe his attitude. He was outright rude and for what? Ordering a light midday French onion soup? Avoid the place. This man is a nasty piece of work.
