Death & Company New York Reviews
Very hip cocktail bar. The line to get in was a little confusing and weird but once we were seated the place was very intimate and cozy. Great drinks, but I would recommend that you order a classic cocktail instead of the more “adventurous” drinks if you are picky. But it’s always fun to try something new if you’re in the adventurous mood! Also the chicken was so good.
Come here early and get on the waitlist! We put our names in at 8pm and didn’t get in until almost 11 but it was very worth it. The staff is incredibly sweet, attentive, and accommodating. Not to mention every drink was an adventure. We loved Fancy Plus, Thoughcrime (peanut butter flavored), and the scarlet macaw. Also don’t forget to be nice to the host/hostess! We loved her!
My phone crashed and wiped out the review I was partially through typing. Grrrrr. My other half is a tall, curly haired, hard-to-miss Southern man. I grew up on Long Island. Southerners are a punchline in New York. I figured if anyone was going to get sassed or get shooed away from the front door, it was him. I went in with my hackles up. Well, I was wrong. For the two and a half-ish hours we were there, the bartenders were extraordinarily nice to us. My other half is a huge cocktail and spirits nerd, and I think they picked up on that. Every drink was beautifully balanced and presented. Well done, boys.
This place is world class. The atmosphere is so cool and relaxed but also busy and fun. The bartenders here are masters at their craft. It was amazing to watch them do their work. I had the best southside in my life! All of the drinks were perfectly balanced and beautiful. An experience to remember. Highly highly recommend this place
Great atmosphere, drinks and food! My friends and I walked in right when they opened and sat at the bar to see the action. We are glad we showed up when we did because they quickly filled up with other patrons. We were served by Alex the bartender who made my friends and I’s experience even better. His recommendations were amazing, he was knowledgeable of the menu and my friends even let him choose their cocktails based off their preferences and he didn’t disappoint! The best cocktail of the night that my friends and I all agreed on was the Flea flicker. I would return just for that cocktail, plus their burrata with truffle honey! Highly recommend.
I am a big fan of Death & Company's "Longbow" - Great King Street Glasgow Blended Scotch, Batavia Arrack, Carrot, Coconut, Lemon, Moroccan Bitters. This dark and intimate East Village speakeasy is heavily decorated with awards (it was a mainstay on the early days of The World’s 50 Best Bars), and for good reason. It’s been one of New York’s top spots to get well-constructed cocktails for more than a decade, opening at the beginning of 2007. While the decor is timeless Manhattan – exposed brick, low-slung tables and a marble bar top – and the bartenders invoked days gone by in their bow ties and suspenders, the drinks have remained thoroughly modern, with a cocktail menu that changes twice a year. All seating is on a first come, first served basis. They will put you on the waiting list and text you when your seat is ready.
Okay, this is a definite five star place for the NYC experience. More along the lines of a speakeasy, the drinks are unique and taste fab. I loved my Lamplighter. Being more of a bourbon girl, this was along the lines of an updated RobRoy—a little smoke and a lot of flavor. Alan had the Sazawa...? I know I am spelling that wrong. He liked it - a little sweet but citrus forward and perfect for a summer night. Great place for a good cocktail
really fun upscale cocktail bar, it might seem impossible to get in here but be patient and put your name down about 1-2 hours prior to when you actually want to get in. we waited 1.5 hours for 2 people on a thursday night at 8PM. it definitely helps to have loose plans if you want to go here. the drink menu is extensive but you won’t find anything like this elsewhere! great for date night or a drink with a small group!
Long wait but totally worth it. The ambiance is very laid back and chill. Unassuming entry but staff is great. I would recommend sitting at the bar so you can watch them make the drinks. The bartender helping us was very friendly and answered so many questions for us. The drink menu is great just to read through and all 3 drinks we had (2 on menu, 1 off) were delicious.
Starting at the doorman, super friendly, very helpful. Our friend was supposed to arrive late so he took us inside and told us to not be worried about it. That he will bring her to our table. (Thank you !!) the drink were delicious, sophisticated. The place is very cozy, in the dark ! Loved it. The manager was super helpful to proposed to us some new cocktail out of the list and I don’t regret it at all !
From left to right we ordered the clown prince, world on fire, and sonny rico. Clown prince was all of our favorites, the ube oat milk and coconut flavor just overtook you. Enjoyed my own order which was World on fire (cuz it always is). I can't begin to tell you how I don't even know half the items on the menu nor what to pick, but the waiter was really spot on with what our preferences were and recommended the right cocktails for each of us. To be clear this is not a speakeasy in reality but the intimate dim lighting and bustling of the waiters and mixologist transport you to that era. Shout out to the bouncer/usher at the front door who was ever so kind and polite while he took our # down to put on the mobile queue line and gave us clear instructions on how it worked and when to come back by.
Excellent cocktail experience. Went on a Sunday night around 830, and was able to get a solo spot. ~45min wait if you had 2 or more people. Bartenders were knowledgeable and made great recommendations. I love a Manhattan or Negroni, and they recommended the Space Sword, which was exactly what I wanted. Very attentive on water refills too. Definitely recommend asking for bartender recommendations since the second drink I got I picked on my own - and it was not my favorite (too much melon). The entrance is actually fairly obvious…there’s a dude out front with an iPad taking names for the waitlist.
I always wrote this place off as a tourist trap until I finally saw it for myself. The cocktails are incredibly good and strong enough to tranquilize a horse. The menu is extensive, so no matter what your liquor preference, you'll likely find something to your liking. The service and atmosphere are also great for the price point (they don't rush you out the door), although it's louder inside than I'd anticipated.
A good looking bar, low ceilings, a bit narrow, very cozy. If you sit at the bar you might get bumped as people try to navigate to the bathroom because there’s not too much space between tables and the bar seats. Bartender was not very friendly, but overall vibes were accepting and the people at the door were really cool and friendly.
Probably the best cocktail I’ve ever had. The ambiance here was fantastic - it feels like you’re in the 1800s drinking in a dark, cozy, candlelit tavern. The contralto with mezcal was like drinking smoke - it was incredible. When we entered a little past 6 when they opened, the venue was already completely full. Definitely a treat to get a drink here!
Almost every drink was tasted, and my personal favorite will be Obsidian Sun, which taste like a refreshing, apricot flavored, and not-too-sweet pudding. Naked and famous is also one of my favorite classics! The lamb burger was juicy and tasted (a little bit small and looks lonely on the plate though). Don’t really like Cyborg because it tastes like the fever medicine that I grew up with:( Keion was very nice introducing me the differences between Chartreuse.
Death & Co is one of the fanciest cocktail bars in the city and everyone who loves cocktails will tell you so. Please don’t take their word for it. Go try them out. First of all, the menu is incredibly designed according to mood instead of alcohol/spirits. I was feeling playful so went for their Light & Playful menu. Interpolation & Reptilian we’re both incredible cocktails! I think for me interpolation won the game because it had mango in it. Fabulous mix of flavors that can get you tipsy super fast! My friend went for Wild Thoughts which looks very Elegant. We got food at the place as well- Popcorn, Fava & Cannellini Dip, and Fingerling Potatoes. All incredible. Popcorn wasn’t anything crazy but the other two were delicious!
This was the one spot I wanted to visit in New York and every expectation was blown out of the water. Kyler was phenomenal and went above and beyond for us. Drinks were top notched! The apple cider donut bites were amazing. Wished I lived closer!
We visited Death & Co on a Sunday night and had the best experience, all thanks to Kyler. This is exactly the kind of place where you trust the bartender to get creative, and Kyler absolutely nailed it every single time. Every drink was unique, balanced, and perfectly crafted. Thank you, Kyler, for making my birthday such a special one!
The absolute epitome of what an elevated cocktail bar should aspire to be. We flew in from Michigan and had high hopes, which they exceeded. Jane was a truly remarkable bartender - passionate, deeply knowledgeable, meticulous, and warm. Proof that if one takes something seriously and puts in the work, great things are inevitable.
One of th best drinks I've ever Had. and the service was real nice. Thanks for keeping the restrooms clean. Drinks we had were: electric feel and arrowhead PLEASE IF YOU GO THERE HAVE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE ARROWHEAD drink.. you won't regret it of you like whiskey! We had 3 drinks and our check came as $60 even . So not the cheapest bar but if you want cheap then go to the liquor store by the corner and don't expect much.
Such a classy experience. We didn’t make a reservation for our party of 3 so we ended up waiting 30-40 min for a seat on a Monday night. It was worth the wait, I’d say. Lots of bars nearby to explore until they text you that your seat is ready. Drinks were strong and beautiful. The menu is incredible (even just to look at) with all its details. This was my first NYC speakeasy experience, and I would definitely come back.
Death & Company is an amazing cocktail bar. They are one of the places that really brought the cocktail bar back into fashion and it shows. We were lucky and got in right away, but often there is quite a wait. Their cocktails are on point, and you can tell their bar staff is very well trained. Their Manhattan is amazing, and comes with extra on the side of the glass served. If you find yourself in New York, you need to make your way to check this place out. You won't be disappointed.
The bar is iconic for a reason Even after all of these years there is still something magickal about Death & Co . You can always count on getting a great cocktail paired with a dimly lit situation. I had a really great Negroni last time I was there. Note: Make a resy or you may have to wait to get in
The cocktail of this place is amazing and the foods are absolutely fantastic! I almost fell in love with their chicke wing, and the atmosphere is dark and gives you the moody feeling to make your night special if need be. It’s very difficult to find a reservation spot here, so we walked in and put our name on the waitlist and they called us after 30~40minutes. Definitely looking forward to go back for more experience👍
Such a great bar in the east village. The vibes were great and the drinks were so delicious. Shoutout Taylor our server who was extremely knowledgeable on the drinks and was incredibly kind and attentive. 10/10 would go back again!
Great place for cocktails with an awesome speakeasy atmosphere. The service was spot on and the bartenders made incredibly tasty cocktails. The menu featured a wide variety of specialty drinks along with a large selection of classic straight up items. One of my favorites was the Skeleton Key cocktail (PM Spirits VS Bas Armagnac, Pikesville Rye, Crème de Mure, Rose, & Absinthe) which somewhat reminded me of an Old Fashioned but this was much tastier! We will definitely be coming back again soon!
Great cocktail bar with a wide variety of styles and spirits! The dark web is really special, the pandan flavor makes the drink really complicated in terms of flavors. You can taste all the spices coming out of you mouth with the pandan herbal/tea like flavor in the drink, with a smooth ending with mango brandy. The obsidian Sun has a strong sweet potato shochu (芋焼酎) fragrance and touching, while being creamy and smooth. The Adrenaline rush is an old-fashioned like drink recommended by the staff. It really has a strong bourbon fragrance with combination of rum. This makes the drink slightly smoother but keeps the original Bourbon flavor. The food here is also delicious, but a bit pricy given the price. The buttermilk chicken is well-fried and juicy with hot honey glazing. The chips and dip is also pretty crispy with sour cream, but a bit salty imo. Overall, this is definitely one of the best bars in NYC, arrive earlier and get in the line to give it a try!
Finally visit this dreamy place and it was really worth it…beautiful cocktails and interesting menu! I ordered innerstellar love and ultraviolet, both of them were flavourful and catchy on tongue, leaving a pleasant aftertaste! Also the atmosphere is nice. Highly recommended this bar as a must-visit.
We were too excited about being here to take photos of most things, but the shishito peppers were incredible and the burrata with beets was pretty good too. The tahini cheesecake is certainly an experience! I wish there had been a bit more variety in the cocktails, but the ones we had were delicious. Wait time was quoted as 2.5 hours when we showed up around 7:30pm, but we ended up getting in after about an hour due to a canceled reservation. There is a nearby bitters bar you can wait at, and I’m sure the wonderful front of house person can give you even more recommendations for nearby bars.
It's been on my bucket list to get here. Great speakeasy-like atmosphere, and the bartenders know their craft. Tucked away in the Lower East side, if you don't know the name, I recommend a quick online search. A great cocktail brand that lives up to the hype. Loved the small bites as well. Two cocktails was enough for me, but I could have gone all night. The menu was great.
Dream bar of my having read their book and followed them for a long time. Drinks were otherworldly, staff was super impressive in both their menu knowledge and genuine charisma, and the bar itself is just a hidden gem in the cocktail world. Cannot recommend enough, prices were not as expensive as they should be, and any chance I get to go back I will be taking
I live on the West Coast, but I was told Death & Co. is a place I needed to visit on my next stay in NYC. I made reservations for a Sunday night. The vibe is very dark and intimate. The bar is staffed with very competent and creative mixologists. They know their craft and make an effort to be personable and knowledgeable. I had a Tripwire, and my wife had the Cornicello. We both enjoyed our respective drinks very much, hers on the sweeter side, mine a bit more spirit forward, but well-balanced. The bartender acknowledged the anniversary we had listed on the reservation and volunteered to make us a special drink to celebrate. I told him how she prefers her cocktails, and he improvised a nice celebratory drink on the spot. It was great, but more importantly, attentiveness and engagement are what made a lasting impression in the moment. High marks all around!
We are so happy we finally made it here. We didn't have a reservation, but we arrived 5-10 minutes before opening and were able to be seated at a table. I would say by 30 minutes after opening, they were already at max capacity. So definitely make a reservation or arrive before the open and wait outside. We didn't get food this time but we did get drinks and they were great! We will definitely be back and try the food.
We just happened to stumble on this place while we were in the neighborhood and waiting for our reservation at a restaurant. We got there just a few minutes before they opened and there were a few people ahead of us in a small line, but we were able to get in and seated right away. Since we were headed to dinner we only ordered drinks but the ones we had were delicious! The vintage egg nog was easily our favorite. The atmosphere is great. It’s dark and cozy and I just loved it.
Death & Company in New York City is a renowned cocktail bar known for its expertly crafted drinks and intimate atmosphere. The dimly lit space features stylish decor, creating a cozy vibe. The extensive cocktail menu showcases both classic and innovative creations, with knowledgeable bartenders eager to customize drinks to your taste. While it can be busy, the meticulous attention to detail makes it a must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts seeking a top-notch experience.
Drinks were pricey so come with your bucks but they are really good and the bartenders are personable. I should have seen if I could get the book. One of the bartenders was talking about Caroline Shaw, then he came to us talking about J. Cole, since we were there for his show at MSG. I tried the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, Naked and Famous and a Doctor Isley, and a Mai Tai.
I don't think people are exactly flocking to this place for the food, but what I've eaten has been good. Those COCKTAILS, though! That's what it's about! And the atmosphere! My husband and I took our son, who just accepted a position as an Assistant Professor and has been a HUGE fan of Death & Co for years. Perfect place to toast to his new career! We were glad we arrived early because the place is small and a line does form, so be ready for that. Make a reservation, if you can! Service has been super both times we have visited! Oh, and I loved that they had my info in the system from our first visit, so when we arrived the second time they knew my name. Nice touch! We'll be back!
Honestly I have never gave a review to any place ever but I guess I should make that one of my resolutions after my time at this wonderful establishment last night! I like to do my due diligence and research spots before going somewhere and this spot was recommended by many. Marvin was so amazing and it was entertaining hearing him recommend drinks to other patrons and be so knowledgeable on anything alcohol related! Both of the drinks I ordered were amazing and I would recommend this spot to both lifelong New Yorkers and tourists if you’re into cocktails.
Really cool spot/speakeasy, with an even cooler entrance! It’s not obvious from the outside (and we initially missed it!), and it’s fairly small and dark inside. I messed up our reservation and had a spot for the next day (8pm on a Monday). The hostess was kind enough to put us on the guestlist and texted us not even half an hour later. The menu of drinks is truly impressive. Probably 30-40 cocktails ? … it was difficult to pick one! I had their drink of the day. One cocktail came at about $27, including tax and tip. There’s also wine, beer and spirits if anyone does not want a cocktail (in a cocktail bar…) –I would definitely come back!
This is a unique cocktail bar that has become one of the most famous in the city. They do not take reservations so it's best to come early or expect to wait hours to get in. The cocktails are all phenomenal and they literally wrote the book on many of them. Definitely try to stop in, it's worth it.
The cocktails here were really good. Ended up here for a boys night and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. We got there 30 minutes after it opened and there was a 2 hour wait. We put our names down and about 1 hr 40 minutes later, heard back from them that our table would be ready in 10 minutes. Thought it was worth the wait - we were able to go grab dinner elsewhere in the meantime and then came back here for some great cocktails. They tend to be a bit busy so even though they ask you to keep your voice down when you enter, the overall spot tends to get a bit loud. The ambience is great and overall, would highly recommend this spot.
After poring over their cocktail books, we were thoroughly looking forward to an in-person visit! Sitting at the bar is the move if you’re interested in the process and the ingredients. We really enjoyed speaking with the bartender, asking questions, and watching the drink preparation. When my husband asked for a rye recommendation for an old fashioned he talked us through options and poured the last of the bottle into a shot glass for us to try on its own, which was a special touch and made the evening that much more memorable! We had five drinks between the two of us, trying from all the different menu sections, and enjoyed all of them. If you think to, definitely look at menu ahead of time and have some options in mind. There are a great number of options with some truly interesting and unique ingredients to consider. We realized too late that they now do limited reservations ahead of time, so if you’re planning a visit check those out well in advance to avoid the stress of walk-ins/wait times. Luckily we showed up at opening time on a Friday night, joined a line of 20ish other hopefuls, and were able to snag the last seats at the bar without a wait. Thank you Death & Co!!!
We had the best experience, we are visiting from Boston! James was our bartender and he made the experience the best we have had in NYC! 10/10 recommend, would come back in a heartbeat.
The cocktails here are genuinely exceptional. The bartender was helpful and friendly, but also knew when to just leave us to it. After being unable to choose my 2nd cocktail the bartender's recommendation was excellent. The snacks are superb, although be aware they are very small. I will certainly recommend this place and return.
Easily one of the best cocktail bars I've ever been to! Drinks are amazing and staff was excellent. So professional but still friendly and welcoming. Bartenders are super helpful, will help you navigate the menu or craft something based on your preferences. So attentive and wonderful. Anytime I have friends visiting me I bring them here. Quality is excellent, if this place isn't on your list, move it to the very top!
My wife and I came for the first time on 7/12/23 and had a great experience. We sat at the bar so we could “be in on the action” and loved the whole vibe. Tiffany was our bartender and she was incredible - very kind, generous, and easy to chat with. We had a couple rounds of drinks and she was very helpful. The drinks were great, and my personal favorite was the “Achilles Last Stand”. It was a mezcal cocktail that seemed to linger in the best way possible. Highly recommend and I can’t wait to come back.
If there’s one cocktail bar I return to again and again and again, it’s Death & Co. This is a NYC cocktail institution of the highest order. The atmosphere is exactly what you want in a cocktail bar - dark and refined. And the bartenders and cocktails are truly among the best in the city. The menu is quite lengthy and changes a couple times a year so there’s always something new to try. And they are some incredible cocktails - no basic manhattans and Negronis here. Be prepared to be impressed!
Ever since I started mixology as a hobby, advancing my bar and knowledge/reading their books I been wanting to come to this bar. I tried the Penicillin, my favorite cocktail, along Pink Matter a strawberry brandy combo with hints of spice, good stuff. Good presentation, prices between 20$-30$, the waiters were efficient and attentive, the bar itself was dark and moody to set the tone. Would definitely go again when visiting New York.
Visiting Death & Co was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was intimate, with a perfect mix of sleek sophistication and cozy charm. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming, guiding us through the menu with expertise. I tried a few cocktails featuring mezcal, and they were absolutely incredible. Each drink had a perfect balance of smoky depth from the mezcal, paired with unique ingredients that created rich, complex flavors. The craftsmanship in every pour was evident, and it was clear that the bartenders are true artists. It’s not just a bar; it’s an experience. I’ll definitely be back for more of those mezcal masterpieces.
This is the best bar in the world. Creative, delicious, great service and truly transcendent. Any cocktail enthusiast would enjoy their experience here. Plus the menu changes every season!
This legendary bar lived up to its reputation comfortably! If you want the full experience, sit at the bar and engage the bartender in conversation. They know what the hell they are talking about, and it elevated our experience tremendously. The drinks are superb, carefully thought out and unique unto this place. Tiffany, our bartender, gave exquisite recommendations, and we were able to curate our experience exactly to our tastes. Queen of the night, knives, edge, rolling, blackout, and adrenaline rush, were all exquisite and catered to my whiskey, spirit forward palate. The ambience is incredible, and there were a variety of liquors I had never seen before. Definitely one of the top bars in New York City, in the world. I only say that after visiting all of the bars listed in the top 100 in the world 2023 that are located in New York City.
Cocktails are always a hit here. Strong but not overpowering of the flavors. We came on a Tuesday night and it was not too crowded with great music & vibes. The cookies dessert was okay and comes with milk but the cookies we got were a bit overdone/burnt so they hardened quickly while arriving warm. All their tequila based drinks are fun and unique! Hostess at the door was great and even told us that their Seattle location in Pioneer Square would be opening soon! One star off service because our wait staff was checking on us very frequently while we were not even halfway through our drinks and kind of interrupted our flow of conversation.
Finally a bar with amazing bartenders that consistently deliver well made drinks. The atmosphere is amazing, it isn’t too loud so you can have a conversation, and the staff are friendly and efficient. I’ve had so many good drinks here but personally love the planet caravan (it’s may not be on the menu but they still make it).
Atmosphere: 8.5/10 East Village. Classic Death & Co ambiance—dimly lit, intimate, and sleek. The space feels like an upscale basement speakeasy, with a moody, timeless design and a striking backbar. The crowd is diverse and lively, though the music volume can make conversation challenging at times. Drinks: 8/10 Recommendation: Moving Target True to the Death & Co brand, the menu is extensive and thoughtfully organized by flavor profiles like “Light & Playful,” “Boozy & Honest,” and “Elegant & Timeless.” The laminated menu is high quality, and the cocktail selection is impressive. Drinks were solid. Considering my experience at the LA location, I would call the drinks “hit or miss”. The moving target is a well balanced drink and tastes good! Glassware is refined, though presentation and garnishes are kept minimal. Nice coasters Service: 8/10 The staff is friendly and attentive, maintaining professionalism even during busy hours. Water is promptly served upon seating. Prices are average for New York City. The service here was more attentive than at the LA location. Be prepared for a potentially long wait; on a Saturday night, a two-person party waited over two hours.
I’ve been waiting for years to come to Death & Co., ever since I randomly found and bought their first book in 2019. In the following years I bought the other 2 books too and they all sit fiercely on my cocktail shelf. I finally managed to come to NYC and Death & Co. was the first name on my to-visit bars. My expectations were high and they were met by their staff (very very special shoutout to Amanda, the lady who welcomed me at the door. Guys, she deserves a raise, really!) Vibe is awesome, cocktails were great. The bartender also gave me a Death & Co. pen as soon as I told him I was a fan. I obviously came back 2 days later. Well done!
Went for a last minute drink at 11pm on a Saturday. The wait for 2 was reasonable, given how busy the venue was inside. As we sat down we were quickly given menus and spoken to by a bartender. Cocktails were nice with a generally interesting flavor profile. Cookies were delicious, and appeared to be made to order. Would I go again? Absolutely.
This place is of course legendary, and I’m just sad it took so long to finally come here. The menu is fun to read through, and really spans the styles of cocktails well- they even had a flip, which was amazing. As expected, the bartenders are really helpful and if you’re not sure what you want from the menu you could safely just have a conversation with them about what you like and they’ll pick or style something for you. It seems the menu changes every six months or so. Definitely on the slightly pricier side for cocktails bars of this genre in NYC, but the quality is very high.
Amazing experience!!! 10/10 recommend. Especially if you sit at the bar! Everything was wonderful- the hostess was very friendly and professional, the bartenders really appreciate their craft, you can tell. You can’t go wrong with any drink. We walked in last minute, probably one hour before close and they were able to squeeze us in and I am so grateful! Just go and see for yourself
I originally planned to propose to my girlfriend here in one of the best bars in the world as we love to travel and experience cocktails. Cara was an angel sent down from the heavens helping me plan every detail. Last minute I changed my plans to propose somewhere more privately and instead surprised my girlfriend (now fiancée) with her best friend and family at death & co. They dealt with every request and gave us an experience we’ll never forget. Cocktails flowing, each delicious and unique, and we had some mezcal/rhubarb shots that were the highlight of my alcoholic shooting experiences. Thomas was our host this day and he handled 3 girls screaming and taking pictures with aplomb. Thank you to the death & co team for a night to remember. I wish I had better pictures to offer but we may have been slightly “over-celebrated” by this point
In my opinion one of the world's best cocktail bars. An extensive cocktail and mocktail menu. A wonderful menu of snacks. The cocktails are something you will talk about for a long time - ingredients I have never heard of mixed with premium liquor. A tour de force for the taste buds. I went to explore whisky cocktails and was not disappointed. This is without doubt a place to visit. Customers are a blend of locals and visitors - a friendly atmosphere. Remember to bring ID - regardless of your grey hairs! Make a reservation! be adventurous - you will not be disappointed.
I’ve lived in nyc for 14 years and was never able to get into this super popular joint! Stroller in at midnight on a Sunday and voila! We were granted entrance for the first time! And wow!! What a gorgeous, elegant and chic space the cocktails! Wow!!!!!! Watching the mixologists make the cocktails is like watching magic happen right in front of your eyes. These are the Olympic athletes of the mixology world. Everything is awe inspiring and my drink (a modified Manhattan) is stuff that makes you believe in miracles. Dante our bartender was so nice! We didn’t eat but I am positive the food is as exquisite as the cocktails. Chefs kiss of life’s experiences for sure!
This is one of my two favorite cocktail bars in the city! I’ve enjoyed every cocktail I’ve tried at Death & Co, and I love bringing out of town guests here. They’ll also make custom cocktails based on your preferences.
I have nothing but praise for my evening at Death & Co! I had two drinks, both of which were tasty and unique. My bartender, James, was probably the best I’ve ever had. He was talented, welcoming, and made everything look so easy. Top bar experience for me. This will be a staple for my future trips to NYC.
Got here on a Saturday evening and it was amazing. James helped us and he was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions that were to our tastes. The whole experience was wonderful. We also got the chicken tenders and marinated olives both of which were perfect bites with our drinks :)
I tried the coral club and another drink that was clarified. They were some of the best cocktails I've ever had. Our waiter was amazing and very knowledgeable. It was crowded but that is expected for…
This bar may be the best in the world! Yes I said it! My fiance and I went here one weekend. I had purchased one of their books in which I have mad many tasteful cocktails and it inspired us to exper…

Amanda was the best part of our bar experience. She held the door position and was able to get us a spot indoors without a reservation. Her banter was fun and sharp and I loved frequenting this loc…

I've visited scores of times and always had a good experience. Great drinks, good food, warm hospitality.
Arrived early for 8pm reservation, seated immediately. 2 of us seated in close proximity to others but everyone nearby fades away as you start to enjoy the drinks, food, and company. We started wit…
Death & Co lives up to all of the hype. Great service and great drinks. Everyone in my group was super happy with the unique flavors of their drinks. The ambiance really makes the experience. Can't…
Strong drinks, friendly staff, and a great ambiance. Would definitely come here again
Highly recommend this place!!! If it's a busy evening and if there is a wait just put your name on the list, go kill some time and go back! I swear to you the drinks and atmosphere is worth it. I'm…
Such a cool bar! There's not much signage out front which gives this spot an ~exclusive vibe~ They've got a great drink list and full bar. Even the appetizers are good, I'd recommend the fingerling…
It was a small and cozy spot. Very delicious cocktails. We got right in and the server was helpful with the menu. Would most certainly come back again.
Love the setting and overall atmosphere of this bar. They have an extensive cocktail and drinks menu, something for every mood. The bar staff are also lovely and are great with giving suggestions on what you may like. A food menu is also available should you want to pair something with your drinks. It is however, always busy, quite quickly too, so best to show up earlier otherwise you will probably have to wait in line.
We didn’t make any reservation- just got a table by walking in. We had to wait for like 5-6 mins. It was a weekday. We tried a bunch of drinks- mostly whiskey based. It was strong but really flavourful. We did order popcorn with it but it was pretty cold. The service was good. The overall vibe is pretty good however it’s a little dark place. Good for date nights but might be slightly loud.
Drinks and vibe are incredible. Jovante & Keon took great care of us. This bar is no longer on the bleeding edge IMO, but delivers a beautiful, refined product in a special environment. This is a 4.5 just for being stale, but such an icon in the city as well as delivering on its prowess. At this point in time, certainly worth a visit, just not worth going out of your way for.
This place has been on my list for more than 3 years. I finally understand what all the chatter is about. Every drink I had here, or sampled, from a regular drink, cocktail, or non alcoholic beverage, was either well balanced or well worth it. Color me impressed!! 😆 Shout out to T for having one of the most unique shakes I've seen in q long time.
Great vibe, crowd and cocktails. Don’t sit at the corner of the bar against the wall. Bartenders have to lean to talk and they aren’t as enthused because of that. The cheese platter was only one type of cheddar. Tasty but should be one of many different cheeses. Of course no one is a going there for cheese (but then again why not make it also a cheese destination :)). Worth the experience
Speakeasy vibe bar, make sure to drop your name in waiting list, plan at least 45 minutes. Diverse menu, friendly staff and fast service. There s something about the music in the background that is so addictive, it's hard rock but soft at the same time. Had my Manhattan drink and I enjoyed the experience. Little pricey though.
Delicious cocktails served speakeasy style. We were lucky to get a table for our large party with no wait. The service was very good and the drinks were expertly made. It is pricy but you get what yo…
This is a very cool, incredibly dark spot in the EV. drinks are pretty good, vibes are great, servers are friendly
Death and Co has a very cozy and intimate ambiance. It would be great for group or going on a date! We didn't order any food there, just came in for a drink after a recommendation! The security and…
Great spot. Very intimate with low lighting and a cool ambience. We had to wait a little for a space but it was worth the wait. The cocktails pack a punch!
We came for a quick drink before a later dinner reservation. We couldn't be seated until my daughter and fiance arrived. Once they arrived about 5:55, the wait was about 45 minutes for a table of 4…

Reservations highly recommended. Even late at night. This place is busy busy. We arrived around 11:30-midnight 🌙 and they were telling us we may not be able to get seats. Thankfully someone didn’t show up for their reservation. 😅 We got a table. Ordered drinks. Ordered chocolate chip cookies. 🍪 The cocktails are delicious but very complex. Chocolate chip cookies were delicious 🤤 🍪 3/5 overall. I wish it wasn’t so loud. We needed more explanation on the ingredients in our drinks. This place is known nationally for expertly crafted cocktails, but I felt the experience lacked that ‘bartender and customer connection/communication.’ 🤐 I was anticipating a more immersive experience due to the quality of ingredients and components they use for their cocktails. 🍹 The atmosphere is 3/5. Music too loud. Room too dark. I wanted to experience the craftsmanship of amazing cocktails and it was hidden by low light and loud music.
excellent drinks but if you say there is a two hour limit then the time we were waiting outside or for your slow service should not count

Hostess at the door was lovely. Waitress inside was not nice at all and didn’t really know how to advise us and neighboring guests on the menu. If guests at your cocktail bar annoy you then maybe don’t work in the hospitality industry. You can’t call yourselves one of the world’s leading cocktail bar if your waiting staff is ignorant.
Drinks were good! food was okay. Unfortunately, the bartender who served us was so incredibly rude that it ruined our night. Tall, thin, with a chain hanging from his shirt. He was so loud, in fact…
Made a 6:00 reservation for today on Tock a few weeks ago. At 4:00, I get a text to confirm my reservation. Show up (after spending $30 on a cab) and I'm told they have a private event and that t…

Wow! We were looking forward to a nice evening with artisanal drinks, but we had a horrible customer experience! Courtney, the manager was quite unbelievable! I was really upset that my visiting brother asked for a gin and tonic or some equivalent, and she gave him a really snide look and after a second drink suggested he leave- he was completely calm and we left perlexed. I think that if you are comfortable with all the drinks on the menu you'll be fine but they won't be happy if you go off menu and the is not what it used to be. But if you ask for suggestions based on what you like and they are not libations as sophisticated as what's on the menu it could result in an embarrassing experience where you are treated poorly. If that's okay, you should definitely come! I was sad because this is a place that I've come for years! This young group of servers as well as very inexperienced manager Courtney Sheenhan has a very obtuse and novice understanding of customer service. They apparently could not get the receipt due an Internet outage so I asked for a paper receipt and she said she could not provide it to us. So we paid $150 for two drinks each but have no paper trail. It's really disappointing for all of us when the night was full of enjoyment from the start. We won't be coming again and frankly the drinks have really degraded, not special at all. The place down the street Amargo was WAY better! Stirred drinks super collection of bitters. Find a better place. Sadly Death and Co has become a place of sad cache. Adieu!
