Le Chéile New York Reviews
Great local bar, with solid bar food, and a welcoming atmosphere. Just the spot you want when gathering with friends.
A beloved neighborhood favorite with wonderful pub dishes. We chose to rent out the upstairs space for a wedding party and couldn't have been more delighted with our choice. Jenn made everything super easy for us in terms of locking in a date, menu, and pricing. On the day of, she kept everything running smoothly. During an impromptu speech she and the team prepared a champagne toast. She even helped us cut and distribute cake when the time came. In addition to Jenn, her team, Alexis, Forest, and Daniella, made sure our guests had all the food and drinks they needed. We had such a magical night thanks to their efforts. We cannot wait to come back again and again with our friends and family.
A lovely place to sit outside and enjoy a happy hour glass of wine that costs $5. Lovely service. Tasty salad and garlic fries.
Walking by randomly stopped to grab a quick bite with a friend, outdoor seating was perfect, veggie burger (chickpea) burger and sweet potato fries, both delicious and fresh! Will visit again to try other menu options!
Stopped in while touring the area at 1:00pm on a Wednesday afternoon. Bar was recommended by Sgt. Rivera of NYPD a few blocks away. Glad he told us to try the mozzarella sticks - yum! Nice, old world, two story bar with local vibes - away from all the tourism. George Washington Bridge is a short walk away. Can’t wait to visit this area again soon and hit bar up at night.
First time here and I live right in the neighborhood.. I ordered the delicious Irish battered fish and chips and a Arugula salad with grilled chicken, cucumbers, avocado with green peppers. So good! I'm definitely returning Total five stars here. Wonderful service. Friendly staff. A pleasant neighborhood spot to just chill and have a nice dinner and drinks
Every dollar was worth coming here. I came for a comedy show originally with an intention to go to a restaurant beforehand, but I was super late, so I ended up eating here. I was so surprised that they had bruschetta and it was absolutely exquisite. The comedy show is great and the people around me were so kind and full of laughter!
The love of my life brought me here for a birthday dinner date October 30, 2021! We had a phenomenal waiter, Forrest! He was just wonderfully personable and helpful. The food and drinks were delicious and we just had a blast. We sat outside and loved it. It was beautifully decorated and the heaters were on. Everything was just perfect! Birthday Dinner in Washington Heights >>> We had brussel sprouts as an appetizer. I had a delicious vegan burger and my guy had a lamb burger. Our drinks were a strawberry 🍓 margarita and a warm spiced liquor! Everything was A-1! Make sure you ask for Forrest! ⭐
Le Cheile has long been a cornerstone of the neighborhood—a warm, welcoming spot that helped shape the area’s identity. Though it’s been a while since my last visit, I still hold a deep fondness for its tasty food, spacious layout, and the added bonus of being just a short walk from the George Washington Bridge view. Since I haven’t been recently, I can’t speak to the current service. But during my many visits in the past, the staff—especially during the Joey, Chris, Helen, and Amanda era—was always friendly and close-knit. Service could be a bit slow at times, more out of friendly chatter than inefficiency, but overall it added to the charm.
Not a bad little Irish pub. The food is fine, the beers are little warm to be honest, but the inside is cozy, nice, and it’s a fun spot to hang out and have some appetizers. Not a bad spot, and I might come back at some point. One note, for larger groups (we were 5), they do not split the bill.
On a whim, I stopped in as I've always been curious passing by. Very pleased with my meal. Waitstaff was very helpful. I had the Guinness and fish & chips. The chips were standard fries, so on the OK side. The star was the fish, as it should be. Great cook here: juicy, flaky and well seasoned batter. The tarter sauce really helped give it a great complete bite, although the fish can stand on its own just fine. One of the better fish & chips I've had in a while. Recommended.
Dropped in here for a bite while waiting for a tow after my truck broke down on the GW bridge entrance. Walked in and felt very cozy & quaint. I’m loving the bar setup & vibes. Got the corned beef hash for $18, add Mimosa for $2 more. Happy hour is $5 wines. After 2 drinks I’m really starting to like this place. Finished the meal with a slice of carrot cake. My only complaint is that the corned beef hash was overly greasy, I’m talking cholesterol & artery clogging grease. A bit risqué? 😅😅
Great food and drinks. Long wait time for entree. I was told that there was a kitchen mix-up. I ordered the entrée first, then my appetizer. The appetizers arrived. My guest's entrée crab burger arrived. But not my crab lobster ravioli. The table that was seated ten minutes after us steak sandwiches arrived before the waiter decided to ask if everything was OK. Then I informed him of my missing entrée. To which he then checked and inputted my order, and I had to watch my guest eat while I waited ten minutes for my food.
So yesterday, Christmas Day a friend and I went for an early dinner at Le Cheile. I knew something was wrong when the staff person at the door asked me “Is there something you want here?” I ignored the slight & gave him a pass as I realized English was not his first language. I replied that I wanted a table for 2. He directed me to a table. I waited for my friend. When she arrived (an elderly white woman) he came over with the menus My friend ordered then I ordered. I noticed that the staff person had his back turned to me while taking her order. When it was my turn he did a brief but not complete turn toward me. Never made eye contact. When my friend requested desert I said I’d like desert ….but he was gone. My friend jokingly replied “ guess you don’t merit desert”. The meal was mediocre and presentation was poor especially it being a holiday. My friends plate looked like dog food with slices of turkey. I knew we overstayed our welcome when a young server came over and asked if we needed anything. When we said no she put the check in front of my friend. She never acknowledged me even though I was holding up my AMEX card My point is that the staff treated my whitebfriend deferentially but ignored me. Totally. But no worries. They won’t have a chance to do it again
Le Cheile has fallen off since 2023. Warm beer, Bad food, and Hit-or-Miss service. Really would like to see a new business (with new ideas) take over.
