Nonono New York Reviews
went for early dinner with a friend. really enjoyed it. good food, fun to share. delicious pumpkin tempura, and AMAZING eggplant. Tuna and mushrooms also good and my friend enjoyed the beef. very simple no-frills spot, from 5-7 we could hear each other which is fabulous. recommend and will return.
There's good food everywhere in NYC, but then there are places where everything on the menu just HITs. Reasonably priced and so much of variety, this place has food that just tastes so dang good. Everything comes out looking amazing and tasting even better. The seating is roomy and comfortable without being overly bougie, the staff are quick and attentive but not overbearing. My top picks: All the grilled skewers - pork belly is the best imo, but the chicken a close second - came out crispy and golden and still piping hot. Not a bad idea to just get one of each and try them all. Sushi/sashimi - even a standard spicy tuna roll was great; not too much rice, a good amount of fish. The mix tartare was such a good blend of super crispy chips, fresh fish and a light blend of avocado, roe, and ponzu sauce. Absolute favorite: The cod cream Udon. If you come for comfort food and get nothing else, get this. If warm, soft, and cuddly weren't weird words used to describe food I'd use them. The sauce is so creamy yet so light, and the Udon noodles are just enough to feel chewy and thick while still feeling like they melt in your mouth. The smattering of seafood mushrooms is the perfect accompaniment, adding a bit of earthiness and texture along w the garnish on top. I have yet to try out everything on the menu here but I still get the cod cream udon every time.
This izakaya spot in Midtown offers a variety of Japanese dishes, from noodle dishes to sushi to skewers. They have two levels here, so there's plenty of seating, but try to grab a reservation before going if you can! Service here is pretty good. I got a couple of their cocktails, skewers, sashimi set, karaage, and ramen. Everything was delicious. The sashimi was so fresh and the cuts were very thick. The skewers were packed full of flavor and good portions. The karaage was also good portions and both crispy but juicy. And, the ramen was rich and had generous cuts of meat (you can also choose between chicken and pork!). Overall, a good izakaya spot and I would definitely come back.
I’ve been here three times it’s really cool, delicious, and the service is amazing! the waiters are friendly and always recommend great dishes if you don’t know what to choose. I highly recommend ordering the ceviche, it’s just incredible: so tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced! one portion per person is enough, and if you’re alone, one serving will do. the appetizers are also very tasty, and the presentation is beautiful the tableware has a nice Japanese style. too bad I only discovered this place a few months ago! It’s always full, so it’s better to make a reservation.
All the dishes we ordered were delicious. Fish tartare⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The combination of fresh diced fish, and the burst of flavor from the salmon roe was perfect. I loved the crispy cracker on the side, which added a nice crunch and balanced the textures beautifully. Each bite felt light yet rich in flavor. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal, and I would come back just to order this again! Cream udon⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The mentaiko cream udon was amazing! The sauce was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with the salty kick of the mentaiko. The udon noodles were chewy and soaked up the flavor really well, and the mushrooms added a nice earthy touch. It was comforting, flavorful, and definitely a must-try dish. Tantan noodles ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The tantanmen was also absolutely delicious! The broth had a perfect balance of creaminess, spice, and nutty sesame flavor. The noodles were cooked just right, with a nice chewy texture that held the sauce well. Topped with flavorful minced pork and fresh greens, every bite was rich and satisfying. Definitely one of the best bowls of tantanmen I’ve had! One thing that could have been better was the communication about closing time. We were not informed about the restaurant’s closing time before ordering, and only while our food was being served did the server mention that they were about to close. Because of that, we had to rush through our meal instead of enjoying it at a relaxed pace. Of course, it was also partly our fault for not checking the closing time before visiting, but it would have been much more considerate if the staff had asked us while we were waiting for a table whether we were okay with the late hour.
This restaurant is very nice. All of the staff worked very hard and although we came right as they got a huge rush, you wouldn’t be able to tell by how often they came by to check on us. I think we got a little unlucky with getting seated right next to where the staff idle, it was by their counter and close to where they would pick up the food from the kitchen. Very unlucky stuff because it felt like someone was always watching or listening to us. But the food came out so quick and was so good we just forgot about that. The cocktail that we got was very sweet and you couldn’t really tell it was alcoholic. It’s a strawberry cocktail and it was very good. The Hokkaido milk soft serve is probably just vanilla icecream though can’t say I recommend it over the McDonald’s soft serve. My udon (the beefy one) was delicious! The sauce was super sweet and amazing. The egg was perfection and the meat was so tasty. The only issue was the onion ring was completely soaked through and had a gross texture. My bf’s udon was the creamy cod one. It had a lot of meat and was pretty good. I can’t complain because it was creamy and tasted of cod. If you like those things you should like this but I feel like it was missing something. If you come here I would recommend trying their cocktails and definitely not getting the soft drink. Water is probably enough and if you get a dessert they give you a hot tea as a palette cleanser. My bf and I each got a tea despite only getting one soft serve. They have a lot on their menu not just udon, but we only had udon. The vibes are very nice and from certain seats you can see directly into the kitchen and bar to watch the kitchen staff working away on the food and drinks. It feels very homey and relaxing.
Nonono is a fantastic spot — stylish, lively, and with great presentation from the menu to the dishes themselves. We ordered the thigh yakitori, mixed tartare, kalbi don, and sukiyaki udon, and everything was delicious, flavorful, and tender. It’s clearly a popular place, and for good reason — the food and atmosphere both impress without feeling pretentious. 10/10 would definitely come back.
Love love loved this place! Came here for dinner a little bit ago and split a spread of dishes with a few friends! We were a party of 4 and I'd say we were plenty full after sharing a bunch of things: the kalbi and brussel sprout yakitori, yellowtail ceviche, yaki corn, kinoko, pumpkin tempura, renkon bacon, karaage, shrimp katsu, tuna mayo roll, kani fried rice, and sukiyaki udon. For dessert, we ended up getting all three - the matcha parfait, hokkaido soft serve, and the suishingen (rain drop pudding for the aesthetics)! Honestly, I loved everything - especially the starter-sized things, like the kalbi skewer and karaage. The flavors and textures are varied which makes it even more important to try a bunch of things. Of the desserts, would definitely get the rain drop pudding at least once just because it's fun and I was a fan of the matcha parfait with the surprise mochi (spoiler alert) at the bottom! Because we leaned more into the small dishes we probably didn't have enough room for more entrees but the udon and fried rice were both terrific and I would want to try more things off the menu. The place itself is cozy, not too loud, and the service staff are so nice! It was a great place to hang with friends for a few hours - casual and trendy!
Looking for a cozy place for lunch with the kids, I stumbled upon this place. The menu was very varied and provided plenty of options for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, and everything was excellent. Maybe just dessrt not to many options. Our favorite was their kalbi, which was so juicy and melted in your mouth. And Tsukune was great too! The service was also excellent. Kudos to the staff who served our table. I will definitely be back!
Love it here! Have been here a few times with friends and family and you can’t go wrong if you love Japanese food and seafood!! The Nonono mix tartare is a must, great citrus and salty flavors with such fresh fish. Any of the sushi and skewers are also solid choices. The karaage is also exactly what you expect, crispy, juicy, and tangy with the lemon. We really enjoyed the miso tonton ramen as well and the unagi don. Just a great solid place. Servers are super kind and attentive, there’s a lot seating and can be fun for friends or family! Highly recommend!
We went around 1 p.m. on Saturday. There was no wait, and we were seated at a bar table. This was my third visit to this restaurant, and as always, the staff was friendly and professional. We ordered four appetizers and one main dish. The portion size for the main dish was just as generous as it was before COVID—hard to believe for NYC! All of the appetizers shown in my attached pictures are recommended, except for the one in the fourth picture (yellowtail). That dish consists of yellowtail cubes, slices of beet, and nuts. It needs more sauce to better blend the flavors of the beet and fish, and the nuts should be replaced, as they don’t complement the dish well.

This cozy izakaya gives off total hipster and chill vibes, a delightful find in the FlatIron district of Manhattan. Reserve ahead, I came here with 2 friends on a Sunday evening at 6:30pm and they seated us at a super narrow corner table on the 2nd story facing the wall. Level 2 is pretty dimly lit and felt cramped as we were only inches from other patrons. The menu here is primarily Japanese but we also found a few items that were an interesting Italian-Japanese fusion. We ordered the following to share: 1)chicken thighs yakitori - juicy and tender 2) chicken breast yakitori - juicy 2)angus prime galbi yakitori - chewy 3)pork with shio yakitori - tender but sweet 4) Nasu Dengaku (Eggplant) - soft; flavorful 5) Yaki Corn - overkill with parm 6) Lobster in miso butter - smooth a fave 7) Cod Roe cream udon - heavy/miss 8) Salmon Donburi - small portions but 👌 9) Ebi Katsu - scrumptious and crispy 10) Branzino in Lemon Mayo - zesty a fave 11) Kuro Goma - very smol but perfect texture The food here is pretty up to par for our standards. Service is decent but not attentive. Bathrooms are clean, overall ambiance is relaxed. Great for date nights.
I wouldn’t have came to this place if my friend invited me. I thought it’s a good find. Causal spot with vegetarian options. The server was very helpful. I asked for vegan options, they said there aren’t really truly vegan options. The vegetable tempura is fried in the same oil as the fish. I tried their shishito peppers and the vegetable udon. The vegetable udon was tasty. I had cold sake with my food. It’s a busy place so definitely recommend making a reservation. Not bad overall.
This cozy restaurant never disappoints with its small plates cooked to perfection. Surprisingly the restaurant was very busy for a Monday night on both floors. Servers were attentive throughout the meal always making sure we had clean plates and were happy. We shared several dishes and ordered a bit too much but everything is always so good. It's hard not to! It's best to make reservations especially if you are a big group.
Restaurant was spacious and not too loud - good catch up spot. Food overall had good prices - Cod roe cream udon: 8/10, pretty creamy and flavorful, and lots of mushrooms and chicken. Not as much roe. Chicken was a little gamey imo, but I LOVED the mushrooms and noodles - Chicken thigh yakitori: 8/10, flavorful! - Lotus root, bacon, and mozzarella: 7/10, pretty yummy, and ever tried something like this - Shrimp katsu: 7/10, had higher expectations but it lowkey lacked flavor. Texture was good tho *Note: Wanna come back to try their lunch special and sushi/raw fish dishes
Incredible service! Waiters were extremely attentive and accommodating. Notable dishes: cod roe cream udon, eggplants, bacon with lotus roots and the fried pumpkin!!!

Food was delicious and fresh. Service was great. wine was a smaller pour than usual places.
The space is great! Very unique setup. Food was good (specifically the eggplant and the DIY hand rolls, but came out extremely slowly and the service was not ideal. Would give it another shot, but not our best dining experience!
Ordered to go, so take my review with a grain of salt. The food was ready to pick up moments after i ordered. The food was just bland. I know nothing will be as good as sitting down, but even then. THe noodles were all clumped together and lacked flavor. The broth wasn't all that great either. I was ordering to eat at a hotel and was given no utensils. No chopsticks, spoon, nothing. Not sure why that wouldnt be standard with ramen. The sushi, no soy sauce packets either and the sushi was no better or worse than what you'd get at a grocery store. I'm sure this place is fine if you were sitting down and eating, but if you order take out, you are not getting their finest food.
it was okay. just okay really. the service was lackluster, they hardly checked on us and we always had to flag them down to order, for more water or the check. the food was a little salty. we got t…

This place is no longer good. Been here 3 times before the new menu and really loved it. Told everyone about it and gosh I’m wrong… Recently took my colleague here and they changed their menu. Not much to choose from and food is not that great quality wise, flavor is fine nothing special anymore. Not sure if the raw ceviche or wine or cream udon, I had food poisoning…yuck
