Opinions de Nonono New York
Nonono is a fantastic Japanese restaurant that offers a wide range of delicious dishes, including sushi, sashimi, tempura, and more. The restaurant has a sleek and modern interior, and the service is always excellent. The chefs use only the freshest ingredients to create their dishes, and the attention to detail is evident in every bite. Whether you're a sushi lover or just looking to try something new, Nonono is definitely worth a visit.
This is a Japanese izakaya style restaurant with a specialty in yakitori. Everything I ate was delicious. The hamachi with truffle is divine. Excellent yakitori. Fried chicken is delicious. I intend to come back soon. Great place to share small plates. Prices are appropriate. Youngish trendy crowd. If you like this type of food it's a definite must to try.
We eat here all the time and tastes so homemade! Their ramens are excellent, along with their yakitori of course. Haven’t been here in awhile but noticed they have some new dishes so ofc we had to try. Loved the katsu ebi! We also tried the beef tongue curry which was okay - mostly because there were only three pieces of beef tongue and the rest was just cuts of beef (like those for stew). The shoyu ramen was delicious. We also love their lunch sets too - esp the yakitori set. Our fav is the chicken tsukune. Several bar seats available for single diners and walk-ins.
from the comfy seats and warm/inviting atmosphere, to the friendly and quick service, not to mention the delicious variety of skewers and Japanese tapas to the refreshing drinks — nonono has quickly become our group’s go-to izakaya spot, and i’ll be sure to keep bringing friends new and old whenever we’re in the area! absolutely perfect for date nights and/or laidback catch-up sesh’s- looking forward to comin back soon;))
Nonono? YesYesYes! We LOVE yakitori. And this did not disappoint. The last time I had chicken gizzards was when I was in Japan and I fell head over heals for them. And I have not seen it anywhere since. So when I saw it on the menu, I was so excited and made sure to order a few sticks. They were as delicious as I remembered. Everything we ordered was excellent. I'll be back.
Yakitori at nonono 🍢🍢 everything was SO flavorful and bomb, I loved every dish we ordered!! 🍽️Ordered: 1. Chicken wing with pork dumpling stuffing 2. Cod roe udon 3. Sliced hamachi 4. Scallop crab mayo skewer 5. Chicken meatball skewers 6. Duck and scallion skewer 7. Seasonal cocktails I loved the chicken wing stuffed pork dumpling because it was so juicy and full of umami 😫🤤 all the skewers were grilled to perfection and perfect for sharing. The pasta was also one of my favs because of how creamy it was!! You really can’t go wrong with ordering anything on the menu, this was such a great dinner!
We were there at 6p, Dec 27. Compared withe other restaurants we visited in the recent days (Christmas-New Year peak season in NYC), this was heaven. Ordered $150 foods and every dish was perfect. The servers were so nice that they at least checked/refilled water 10+ times during the 1 hour we stayed there. Will be back and sure will recommend to anyone I know.
Nonono is a high quality izakaya with a casual vibe and affordable pricing. We were blown away by how authentic and delicious the food were, bringing us straight to Japan. If we need to nitpick, the service was pushy and our server constantly looked annoyed which made us nervous talking to her. * Cod Roe Cream Udon The best-valued dish ($14) with a decent portion! The mentaiko cream wasn’t overly heavy, but still preferred to be shared. It was tossed with hearty portion of sliced pork belly and assorted veggies. * Pesto Portobello*** Each grilled portobello was topped with scallop and mini tower of pesto sauce. They scorched the pesto sauce to give extra smoky aroma to the dish. A luscious and innovative fusion side that took the dish to a new level. * Nasu Dengaku*** Slices of eggplant were grilled and enrobed in a glossy miso sauce, coated with lots of scallions. The eggplant literally melted in my mouth and it was bursting with sweet and tangy flavors. I love and worship eggplants, so this side was 100% right up my alley. * Meatball, Chicken Thighs Scallion Skewers Meatball was a minced chicken skewer glazed in a golden sweet-and-savory sauce. Very well seasoned, yet I prefer a tsukune being served with a dipping sauce of raw egg yolk. While the chicken breast skewer looked sad lol the meat was dry and lack seasonings. * Chawan Mushi*** Love the jiggly and silky smooth egg custard. The price was steep but the bowl was bigger than we thought, and it was loaded with luxurious ingredients like uni, shrimp, crabmeat and ikura. * Matcha Tiramisu It was not outstanding but did a good job to end our meal. The matcha powder they used might not be top-tiered, but still delectable to finish off your satisfying date night.
Very nice, contemporary spot for Japanese fare. They have some interesting cocktails too! The menu items are also decently priced and portion sizes aren’t overboard, might be on the small side for some, but IMO it’s perfect. Just enough to be satisfied, and leaves room to try other menu items like yakitori (perfectly grilled) or chawanmushi (it was deliciously fragrant and so silky). The ramen is so good with rich and flavorful broths, and the cocktails are fun (I tried the basil one (pictured) and it was really good, such a fun flavor combo). Food presentation was also great! All the items were nicely presented and so enticing. The interior decor is also really nice, sort of industrial but also very casual and inviting with high ceilings and some plants, lighter wood tones and a light color palette in general. I would recommend! And would definitely also go back and try more things!
Came with some friends and we loved it! Cute place as well! Super fresh and tasty, good portions for price. We shared the mixed tartare and loved the sauce it was in. I had the Zuke Maguro with a side of rice, great quality, smooth texture. The service was attentive, waiters constantly filling water (they must’ve seen the other reviews commenting on this in the past). Only problem was that the udon and ramen for my friends came nearly 10 minutes before my sashimi which I had to ask about.
Great atmosphere, beautiful dishes and lovely design. There are homages to Japanese culture throughout with the design. It is small shareable plates and works well for a group setting. We had a group of 6 and it was perfect. Service was excellent, everything tasted so fresh and delicious, definitely will be returning.
Almost all the dishes were amazing! I especially enjoyed the sashimi salad and the different skewers (which I forgot to take pictures of). The sesame pudding as a dessert was lovely. Unagi don was good but at par with most other japanese restaurants. The chocolate cake was a bit too sweet.
Lovely experience! Host was attentive and kind. Our waiters were great. The food came fast and the dishes were delicious and very filling. We came during lunch (12-2:30PM) for their lunch special and it was worth the price. The atmosphere was aesthetically pleasing. I will definitely be coming back for dinner!
I came back here for the first time in 5(?) years or more, and I was happy to find that it was still as delicious, clean, and friendly as I remembered it. Their menu is so unique - all of the dishes super superb - and their cocktails are generous and delicious. Staff is always on point, fast, friendly, and I cannot recommend this place enough! 6 out of 5 stars.
Firstly, I really appreciate that the menu on the website has pictures for every item. It was nice to see it before going, though we still couldn't decide when we got there! The food was absolutely delicious and you could tell the ingredients were fresh. The portions were smaller making it easy to share with others so you could try a bit of everything. The staff was pleasant and presented the food at a steady pace. It didn't feel like we were being hurried or anything like that. They also always made sure we had water. Overall a ~perfect~ experience!
Came here twice and left very happy both times. The ebi katsu was perfectly fried with a ton of shrimp, the lobster miso butter was very cheesy with a good amount of lobster. Cocktails were good at a great price ($14 pomegranate bourbon cocktail in my picture) . I remember really liking the branzino, asari buttered (clams) and cod roe cream udon the last time I came. There wasn't anything I didn't like at NONONO. Also love the fact that we were able to walk in without crazy lines like a lot of other restaurants in NYC.
An amazing dinner spot. I got the Kyuri cocktail and it was so refreshing and delicious. We had the corn and dumplings and both were delicious. Finally I had the sushi (crunchy tuna tartare and spicy tuna rolls) and the miso tantán ramen. It was creamy and a little spicy. It was the combination of the tasteful service that was helpful and present when needed but not overpowering, the ambiance, and the delicious food that really sold me. I definitely recommend!
The first time I visited NONONO, the place was absolutely packed, and they offered me a small table near the bar, which I didn’t really like. However, I decided to give it another chance and came back a week later with a reservation. This time, it wasn’t as busy, and I had a much better experience. The food was truly exceptional! I ordered the scallop uni carpaccio, a selection of kushiyaki, the salmon ikura don, and the unique suishingen (rain drop pudding served with soy bean powder and kuromitsu sauce). Every dish was well-prepared and beautifully presented, and the flavors were outstanding. The Suishingen dessert was especially fun and memorable – definitely a must-try! The service was pretty decent and added to the overall positive experience. I loved the ambiance of the place and how it complemented the food. I’m already looking forward to coming back for another dinner!
Delicious Japanese food. The menu has lots of options, also lunch is great too. I have done lunch and dinner a few times. Lunch menu offers set price lunch options. Dinner atmosphere is fun , vibrant & warm. Music is not loud. I suggest you try the eggplant dengaku and for desert the rain drop pudding. Yummy
WOW I loved this place! Went with a friend after work on a weekday with a reservation and the food was phenomenal. The quality of food on each dish was nothing less than outstanding, and you can tell each plate was thoughtfully composed. I described the atmosphere as “approachable chic” — very low key but with personality. Staff was extremely friendly and plates came out swiftly. Already planning my next after work dinner plans here!
+ Get $25 off using the link on my profile! Tried coming here for lunch a while back and dinner recently. It’s an excellent spot and gets filled up pretty quickly at night. The rolls and yakitori are great but the salmon tataki takes the spotlight with its unique flavors in shoyu avocado. We enjoyed getting a few small plates from each section rather than two mains, as we got to try multiple dishes over a well paced meal. The premium malt beer is creamy and amazing; the ume cocktail is quite sweet so I’d personally stay away from that. There’s a mini happy hour Sun-Thurs 5-6pm that’s nice to catch.
A gem of a Japanese restaurant, what separates Nonono from others is they crush each variety offering. Their make-your-own handrolls were unique and delicious. The various fried appetizers nailed their landings. And the soft serve dessert was both simple yet delectable. I love this spot!
The best vegetarian udon in town (for me)!!!!!! As you can see I finished the whole thing. I recommend letting the plums break and soak in the soup so you get a nice kick of sour in combination with the broth umami. I recommend the sesame dessert! Their service is less than pleasant but sufficiently helpful.
went for early dinner with a friend. really enjoyed it. good food, fun to share. delicious pumpkin tempura, and AMAZING eggplant. Tuna and mushrooms also good and my friend enjoyed the beef. very simple no-frills spot, from 5-7 we could hear each other which is fabulous. recommend and will return.
There's good food everywhere in NYC, but then there are places where everything on the menu just HITs. Reasonably priced and so much of variety, this place has food that just tastes so dang good. Everything comes out looking amazing and tasting even better. The seating is roomy and comfortable without being overly bougie, the staff are quick and attentive but not overbearing. My top picks: All the grilled skewers - pork belly is the best imo, but the chicken a close second - came out crispy and golden and still piping hot. Not a bad idea to just get one of each and try them all. Sushi/sashimi - even a standard spicy tuna roll was great; not too much rice, a good amount of fish. The mix tartare was such a good blend of super crispy chips, fresh fish and a light blend of avocado, roe, and ponzu sauce. Absolute favorite: The cod cream Udon. If you come for comfort food and get nothing else, get this. If warm, soft, and cuddly weren't weird words used to describe food I'd use them. The sauce is so creamy yet so light, and the Udon noodles are just enough to feel chewy and thick while still feeling like they melt in your mouth. The smattering of seafood mushrooms is the perfect accompaniment, adding a bit of earthiness and texture along w the garnish on top. I have yet to try out everything on the menu here but I still get the cod cream udon every time.
This izakaya spot in Midtown offers a variety of Japanese dishes, from noodle dishes to sushi to skewers. They have two levels here, so there's plenty of seating, but try to grab a reservation before going if you can! Service here is pretty good. I got a couple of their cocktails, skewers, sashimi set, karaage, and ramen. Everything was delicious. The sashimi was so fresh and the cuts were very thick. The skewers were packed full of flavor and good portions. The karaage was also good portions and both crispy but juicy. And, the ramen was rich and had generous cuts of meat (you can also choose between chicken and pork!). Overall, a good izakaya spot and I would definitely come back.
I’ve been here three times it’s really cool, delicious, and the service is amazing! the waiters are friendly and always recommend great dishes if you don’t know what to choose. I highly recommend ordering the ceviche, it’s just incredible: so tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced! one portion per person is enough, and if you’re alone, one serving will do. the appetizers are also very tasty, and the presentation is beautiful the tableware has a nice Japanese style. too bad I only discovered this place a few months ago! It’s always full, so it’s better to make a reservation.
All the dishes we ordered were delicious. Fish tartare⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The combination of fresh diced fish, and the burst of flavor from the salmon roe was perfect. I loved the crispy cracker on the side, which added a nice crunch and balanced the textures beautifully. Each bite felt light yet rich in flavor. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal, and I would come back just to order this again! Cream udon⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The mentaiko cream udon was amazing! The sauce was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with the salty kick of the mentaiko. The udon noodles were chewy and soaked up the flavor really well, and the mushrooms added a nice earthy touch. It was comforting, flavorful, and definitely a must-try dish. Tantan noodles ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The tantanmen was also absolutely delicious! The broth had a perfect balance of creaminess, spice, and nutty sesame flavor. The noodles were cooked just right, with a nice chewy texture that held the sauce well. Topped with flavorful minced pork and fresh greens, every bite was rich and satisfying. Definitely one of the best bowls of tantanmen I’ve had! One thing that could have been better was the communication about closing time. We were not informed about the restaurant’s closing time before ordering, and only while our food was being served did the server mention that they were about to close. Because of that, we had to rush through our meal instead of enjoying it at a relaxed pace. Of course, it was also partly our fault for not checking the closing time before visiting, but it would have been much more considerate if the staff had asked us while we were waiting for a table whether we were okay with the late hour.
This restaurant is very nice. All of the staff worked very hard and although we came right as they got a huge rush, you wouldn’t be able to tell by how often they came by to check on us. I think we got a little unlucky with getting seated right next to where the staff idle, it was by their counter and close to where they would pick up the food from the kitchen. Very unlucky stuff because it felt like someone was always watching or listening to us. But the food came out so quick and was so good we just forgot about that. The cocktail that we got was very sweet and you couldn’t really tell it was alcoholic. It’s a strawberry cocktail and it was very good. The Hokkaido milk soft serve is probably just vanilla icecream though can’t say I recommend it over the McDonald’s soft serve. My udon (the beefy one) was delicious! The sauce was super sweet and amazing. The egg was perfection and the meat was so tasty. The only issue was the onion ring was completely soaked through and had a gross texture. My bf’s udon was the creamy cod one. It had a lot of meat and was pretty good. I can’t complain because it was creamy and tasted of cod. If you like those things you should like this but I feel like it was missing something. If you come here I would recommend trying their cocktails and definitely not getting the soft drink. Water is probably enough and if you get a dessert they give you a hot tea as a palette cleanser. My bf and I each got a tea despite only getting one soft serve. They have a lot on their menu not just udon, but we only had udon. The vibes are very nice and from certain seats you can see directly into the kitchen and bar to watch the kitchen staff working away on the food and drinks. It feels very homey and relaxing.
Nonono is a fantastic spot — stylish, lively, and with great presentation from the menu to the dishes themselves. We ordered the thigh yakitori, mixed tartare, kalbi don, and sukiyaki udon, and everything was delicious, flavorful, and tender. It’s clearly a popular place, and for good reason — the food and atmosphere both impress without feeling pretentious. 10/10 would definitely come back.
Love love loved this place! Came here for dinner a little bit ago and split a spread of dishes with a few friends! We were a party of 4 and I'd say we were plenty full after sharing a bunch of things: the kalbi and brussel sprout yakitori, yellowtail ceviche, yaki corn, kinoko, pumpkin tempura, renkon bacon, karaage, shrimp katsu, tuna mayo roll, kani fried rice, and sukiyaki udon. For dessert, we ended up getting all three - the matcha parfait, hokkaido soft serve, and the suishingen (rain drop pudding for the aesthetics)! Honestly, I loved everything - especially the starter-sized things, like the kalbi skewer and karaage. The flavors and textures are varied which makes it even more important to try a bunch of things. Of the desserts, would definitely get the rain drop pudding at least once just because it's fun and I was a fan of the matcha parfait with the surprise mochi (spoiler alert) at the bottom! Because we leaned more into the small dishes we probably didn't have enough room for more entrees but the udon and fried rice were both terrific and I would want to try more things off the menu. The place itself is cozy, not too loud, and the service staff are so nice! It was a great place to hang with friends for a few hours - casual and trendy!
Looking for a cozy place for lunch with the kids, I stumbled upon this place. The menu was very varied and provided plenty of options for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, and everything was excellent. Maybe just dessrt not to many options. Our favorite was their kalbi, which was so juicy and melted in your mouth. And Tsukune was great too! The service was also excellent. Kudos to the staff who served our table. I will definitely be back!
Love it here! Have been here a few times with friends and family and you can’t go wrong if you love Japanese food and seafood!! The Nonono mix tartare is a must, great citrus and salty flavors with such fresh fish. Any of the sushi and skewers are also solid choices. The karaage is also exactly what you expect, crispy, juicy, and tangy with the lemon. We really enjoyed the miso tonton ramen as well and the unagi don. Just a great solid place. Servers are super kind and attentive, there’s a lot seating and can be fun for friends or family! Highly recommend!
We went around 1 p.m. on Saturday. There was no wait, and we were seated at a bar table. This was my third visit to this restaurant, and as always, the staff was friendly and professional. We ordered four appetizers and one main dish. The portion size for the main dish was just as generous as it was before COVID—hard to believe for NYC! All of the appetizers shown in my attached pictures are recommended, except for the one in the fourth picture (yellowtail). That dish consists of yellowtail cubes, slices of beet, and nuts. It needs more sauce to better blend the flavors of the beet and fish, and the nuts should be replaced, as they don’t complement the dish well.

Arrived on a saturday at 9 pm and the restaurant was still bustling with activity. But we had a seat right away. The ambiance was really nice, and I really like the small touched like a menu book with pictures. Makes it easy to know what to order. We got the tan tan ramen, yakitori (tongue, prime rib, egg and chicken thighs), scallop and uni carpaccio and the rice pudding for dessert and 1 beer. We shared this between 2 people and while the portions were a tad smaller, I think it's perfect so we don't overstuff ourselves. The yakitori can be quite expensive, because 1 stick of the prime rib is $9 and 1 stick of beef tongue is $10. So it definitely adds up. But I thought the yakitori were ok. The tongue was pretty chewy and the rest was nothing special. I loved the ramen the best though. It was creamy with a right amount of spice. The scallop and uni carpaccio was good but not worth $20 imo. I did like the pudding dessert at the end. It was an interesting dessert. Overall, we paid $100 including tips.
Very good izakaya food. I loved the variety and the different cooking options. The service was quick and the food solid. I loved the egg shower. I thought the dashi broth could be cleaner for a now vibrant flavor, and the ramen in the contrary could have used a little more blending of the flavors. Overall I enjoyed the experience.
Waited for about 15 min for a table of 2 on a Saturday night, pretty good! We got one of everything, except for a few limited items that were sold out. Most of them were delicious, but some of them were a bit dry, like chicken breast. My personal favorite was the lime cilantro and chicken meatball! We ordered another one afterwards because they were so good! Overall, the service was good, food was tasty. I would definitely recommend it!
Great for yakitori lovers. The skewers are really good. The place really specializes in chicken so I'd really suggest to stick with any chicken dish. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food is made to order and comes out pretty quickly. Prices can really add up when you let loose ordering skewers so be mindful.
The food was tasty but I asked the waitress if the food was spicy and she said no and it was. I have to avoid spicy food so this was a bit nerve wracking for me. The raindrop pudding looked interesting but my family member said the taste was not as expected. The Ramen had the right spice but it lacked in flavor. My pasta with clams was very tasty and soba stir fry was also good.
The decor is highly aesthetic, creating a great atmosphere. Both portion sizes and pricing are reasonable, especially considering the prime location. One suggestion for improvement: since the menu is already accessible online, enabling direct ordering via tablet would streamline the experience.
The food here was quite delicious, and I really enjoyed the Creamy Cod Roe Udon. Definitely worth visiting, but it was quite pricey for the yakitori. The Grilled Salmon Belly was beautifully tender and flavored, and it was a great appetizer. The Shio Paitan was not too flavorful in comparison to the other dishes, but it was good nevertheless. I really liked all of the yakitori (short ribs, thigh, and cartilage), as the charcoal flavor really came through. Every single thing was just SO GOOD, I would definitely come back to try other dishes too. The outdoor dining setup was also super cute, with the fairy lights and heated lamps. Very very grateful they separated each table, and the heating lamps made a HUGE difference. 100% recommend.
Ambiance (4/5): It is a multi-level restaurant with very minimalistic but chic decorations. The dining tables are nested a bit close with several bar seating as well. It is dimly lit and a bit loud despite the tall ceilings! Service (4/5): Definitely get a reservation ahead of time as some of the walk-in wait times were quoted at an hour to 90 minutes! We were sat immediately at our reservation time in the upstairs dining area. It felt a lot more intimate than the downstairs area. The staff were diligent in getting our orders in very quickly and providing us anything we needed at a moment’s notice. However, my only critique was the timing of the dishes. The food came out lightning fast, and almost too fast that we felt like we had to quickly scarf down the previous dish in order to make space in the already small tables. My hungry stomach was thankful for this but it made our dining experience feel rushed. Food: Family style between 2. The presentation of the dishes were awesome; some dishes were delicious while the others were just okay. I would definitely come back to try some of the other dishes. Basil cocktail $13 – This drink was tasty but nothing special about it Special Kushi – I should have listened to the other reviews; the skewers are kind of bland and would probably skipped them altogether and gotten another dish. 1 skewer for 10 bucks?! Duck and scallion (2/5): The duck was tough to chew and the flavor was overpowered by the hoisin sauce. The scallion and soybean paste was lost in the flavors. Scallop crab mayo (4/5): I really enjoyed the crab and mayo sauce which blended well with the tender scallops. Cod Roe Cream Udon (4/5): The cream sauce is very rich and the cod roe gives the dish an umami punch. The savory taste from the mushrooms were blended seamlessly into the dish. Nonono Mix Tartare (5/5): I loved this dish and seasoning! The fish chunks were all really fresh and tasted great with the dressing on it. The thin crisp wonton chip was a great vessel for the bites. Salmon Don (4/5): There was nothing special about this dish. However, the salmon sashimi pieces were all very fresh. 6 pieces in the bowl.
Yummy skewers using all parts of the chicken. Chicken hearts were my favorite, but the beef tongue special was a close second. The skewers come out as they as ready, in a rolling service manner, which I enjoy. The ambiance of the space is one that leaves you feeling peaceful and nurtured by the small details and open space.
The food was okay. I was specifically drawn to this spot to try out the yakitori but it was more tasting like pan fried than grilled over charcoal. Tried a few other dishes, the roe cream udon was probably the best. There is also no set menu for dinner. Staff was attentive and service was excellent.
I’ve come quite a few times and like it a lot!! Doesn’t quite compare to Tokyo but I appreciate the innovative dishes. I like the ambiance but realized some areas have harsh white lighting which made it feel a little dark and sterile… would recommend for fun and affordable Japanese dishes :)
The NONONO impressed us with its delicious and well-prepared food. Our dishes were tender, juicy, and flavorful, leaving us wanting more. However, we noticed that the beer servings were a bit smaller than expected, about half the size of a standard pint and the food portions were tapas-style, which led us to order more food and drinks. This resulted in a higher bill, but overall, we enjoyed the experience. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, as the restaurant was fully booked when we arrived at 5pm on Saturday. Serving a pint size for beer would be a welcome change.
The appetizers were well crafted and were a delight to partake in. From skewers to chicken wings, each was a joy to eat. The udon, on the other hand, was palpable. It's best to save money to order more appetizers instead. Luckily, the noodles with clams were more appealing. The restaurant was surprisingly calm to eat in with high ceilings to gaze upon
We popped into this local eatery as we fancied some bbq food on a stick (aka Yakitori). We were seated upstairs which doesn’t really have the same vibe as the main floor where the kitchen is. It was worth booking (we went on Sunday at 8pm) The food was as expected but my issue was the speed the hot food came out, almost all at once hence some of it got cold by the time we were ready to eat them. I think the waiter should have informed us. TIP, order almost as when you want them. The raw tuna/salmon/yellowtail tartare was simply outstanding and would highly recommend it. Their cocktails are also great.
I went alone on a Thursday evening without a reservation and had to wait for about 15 minutes as a walk-in. I sat at the bar, which was a bit small in size. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, and the staff provided excellent and attentive service. I ordered a small bottle of Suigei clear sake, which had a dry taste and was not too sweet. For food, I tried the recommended grilled beef tongue (a bit too oily), Chicken Oyster, grilled chicken cartilage, grilled Wings, salmon salad, and Shishito Wasabi. The grilled skewers were tasty, the salmon was fresh, but the last item, the wasabi, was really spicy. After eating two, I couldn't handle the spiciness anymore. Overall, I found the food delicious, the ambiance wonderful, and the service excellent.
Everything we ordered was fantastic! They have a huge variety of authentic Japanese dishes, and the quality far exceeded our expectations, especially at those prices. The sushi was amazing, Crunchy Tuna Tartar roll with tempura flakes was my personal favorite. Also, the salmon hand roll was great, it was really fun to assemble ourselves. Also, we loved Yakitori Angus Prime which was very flavorful and juicy. We had a reservation for a Thursday night, the place was full, so definitely a popular spot. I’d love to come back and try more from the menu!
The Izakaya style food here is yummy with a decent decor. I particularly love the tender buttery Wagu beef, juicy crispy shrimp katsu and their perfectly grilled chicken skewer (generous delicious sauce over the rice). Their beautiful cocktails were perfectly made too. You could also choose from a good variety of their lunch specials with a decent price too.
This cozy izakaya gives off total hipster and chill vibes, a delightful find in the FlatIron district of Manhattan. Reserve ahead, I came here with 2 friends on a Sunday evening at 6:30pm and they seated us at a super narrow corner table on the 2nd story facing the wall. Level 2 is pretty dimly lit and felt cramped as we were only inches from other patrons. The menu here is primarily Japanese but we also found a few items that were an interesting Italian-Japanese fusion. We ordered the following to share: 1)chicken thighs yakitori - juicy and tender 2) chicken breast yakitori - juicy 2)angus prime galbi yakitori - chewy 3)pork with shio yakitori - tender but sweet 4) Nasu Dengaku (Eggplant) - soft; flavorful 5) Yaki Corn - overkill with parm 6) Lobster in miso butter - smooth a fave 7) Cod Roe cream udon - heavy/miss 8) Salmon Donburi - small portions but 👌 9) Ebi Katsu - scrumptious and crispy 10) Branzino in Lemon Mayo - zesty a fave 11) Kuro Goma - very smol but perfect texture The food here is pretty up to par for our standards. Service is decent but not attentive. Bathrooms are clean, overall ambiance is relaxed. Great for date nights.
I wouldn’t have came to this place if my friend invited me. I thought it’s a good find. Causal spot with vegetarian options. The server was very helpful. I asked for vegan options, they said there aren’t really truly vegan options. The vegetable tempura is fried in the same oil as the fish. I tried their shishito peppers and the vegetable udon. The vegetable udon was tasty. I had cold sake with my food. It’s a busy place so definitely recommend making a reservation. Not bad overall.
This cozy restaurant never disappoints with its small plates cooked to perfection. Surprisingly the restaurant was very busy for a Monday night on both floors. Servers were attentive throughout the meal always making sure we had clean plates and were happy. We shared several dishes and ordered a bit too much but everything is always so good. It's hard not to! It's best to make reservations especially if you are a big group.
Restaurant was spacious and not too loud - good catch up spot. Food overall had good prices - Cod roe cream udon: 8/10, pretty creamy and flavorful, and lots of mushrooms and chicken. Not as much roe. Chicken was a little gamey imo, but I LOVED the mushrooms and noodles - Chicken thigh yakitori: 8/10, flavorful! - Lotus root, bacon, and mozzarella: 7/10, pretty yummy, and ever tried something like this - Shrimp katsu: 7/10, had higher expectations but it lowkey lacked flavor. Texture was good tho *Note: Wanna come back to try their lunch special and sushi/raw fish dishes
Incredible service! Waiters were extremely attentive and accommodating. Notable dishes: cod roe cream udon, eggplants, bacon with lotus roots and the fried pumpkin!!!

Food was delicious and fresh. Service was great. wine was a smaller pour than usual places.
The food was mid. Pricing is reasonable for the location, but there are so many better options at this price point that it's hard to justify coming here. We started with the seafood tartare, followed by skewers of anchovy octopus, beef tongue, lobster miso butter, chicken heart, chicken tail, and chicken oysters. We finished with the Suishingen mochi. NONONO offers interesting and flavorful sauces—from the tartare to the anchovy sauce used on the octopus—but unfortunately, they weren't enough to make up for the disappointing grilled items. The chicken was bland, and some pieces were overcooked and burnt. The beef tongue was served lukewarm, which didn't help its texture or flavor. Overall, it's not worth it.
On a Friday night, the restaurant was really busy. Despite not having a reservation, we were seated very quickly and greeted by everyone. The interior design was really warm and modern where my boyfriend and I sat down at a large dining table with 2 other people across from us. (Don’t worry, it was a big table!) What we ordered: Short Rib Yakitori - $6 (3/5): The short rib comes with 4 meat slices with 2 onions in between. The first bite was a delight where the meat marinated with the sauce was almost a perfect bite. However, the more you eat it, you notice the meat was not as tender and a little under seasoned. Knee Cartilage Yakitori - $4 (3.5/5): Cartilages are my favorites, so I was very pleased to see this on their menu. Their cartilage were what I wanted in texture: crunchy but tender at the same time. What disappointed me was the seasoning, it was very light. Napa Kara Pork -$5 (3/5): This was apparently the hype from a lot of the reviews I read. Again, the pork was really tender, not gamey but again under seasoned. Presentation was really nice tho. Hamachi -$13 (3/5): This dish comes with 6 slices of the fish with bits of oranges on it. I would recommend having a decent amount of sauce on your fish with some oranges in your bite. If you have a good amount of sauce with the orange, you can imagine how good it’ll be if there was more flavor. Dragon Ball -$16 (2/5): This dish comes in multiples slices of beef with 3 quail eggs. This would have to be the disappointing dish. Similar to the Hamachi, not enough flavor. I had to drench the beef with the sauce and if I eat it with scallions, there’s not much flavor. I wish they have drizzle the sauce on the dish rather than plate it separately. The quail eggs were bland and honestly, for the price worth, I don’t recommend this. (You can probably make this dish better at home with cheaper ingredients and more quantity). Cod Udon -$13 (4/5): This creamy delicious rich dish surprised me. The texture of the udon was bouncy and soft, coated with a good amount of richness of the cream. The texture of the vegetables was a nice mixture with the udon, though perhaps it’s better to use blanch the cabbage. Tori Tantan - $17 (3/5): In my opinion, for just ramen with no meat or egg, not worth it for $17. The broth is very creamy and rich, similar to sesame peanut butter noodles (if you’re familiar with the dish) but it was a bit salty. I would say if you do want to order this dish, have another dish to balance the richness and saltiness out. Basil - $13 (4/5): This cocktail is exactly like the name. It’s a cocktail with basil and strawberries. The drink is very strong on the basil and it balances out with a bit of sweetness from the strawberries. Pretty refreshing. Overall, Nonono is a very nice restaurant with a nice ambience and great services. Would I come here again? Probably not but it was definitely worth to try a new restaurant.
For some context for this review, I'm a huge ramen head. I've eaten at every "proper" ramen shop that's ever existed in NYC, dating back to over three decades ago. I was here before tonkotsu ramen became America's favorite ramen style. Whenever I'm in Japan, I eat at least two to four bowls per day. I know what I'm talking about. I used to love going here for their tori paitanmen. Some months I'd go every week. It was by far the best in New York and on par with the best I've had all over Japan; not to mention super consistent, which can be hard to do. When I wanted to mix it up, the shoyu chintan ramen was also extremely solid - could have used some more niboshi but very good still. The tori paitan tantanmen was very good too. The lunch special was my favorite in the city. I would take other ramen heads from out of town here just for the tori paitan, and told anyone with a pulse to go check it out. For some reason they decided to remove these bowls from their menu. I understand that it was more labor intensive to have multiple broths for a small portion of the menu. However, instead of focusing on the thing they're best at, they replaced it with a muddled mess of a ramen program that resembles no regional style I've ever come across. I was literally sitting there trying to figure out the bowl, because it was a mess with no clear flavors. It just reminds me of shopping mall ramen, to be honest. Not offensive, but definitely not worth going out of your way for. Not to mention that this is NYC and many people don't eat pork, and they don't have that option anymore. Just a baffling business move overall. Their chawanmushi is really good though, as is the rest of their menu, but I will not be going back until better ramen is put back on the menu. Photos are from my visits over literal months and years. Final shot is from my final visit when I gave the new bowls a shot and was super disappointed. I gave pretty direct and clear feedback that day and sent an email over. I don't know if they missed it, don't value my opinion, or just don't care, but it's been a few months now with no changes and it's incredibly disappointing. Luckily there are other solid options for tori paitanmen in New York that have popped up since then.
A friend visiting the city picked it for dinner. The location was convenient. The restaurant is nice and the staff was very helpful. The quality / price is not great. The food setting is amazing and it looks just like the pictures from the menu. The food tasted good but not great. I was expecting it to be better based on the price. I would not recommend it. The best were the rolls and a mushroom platter we ordered. The rest disappointed a little. To be fair I will say the place had a crowd and it might be that it might just be us.
The space is great! Very unique setup. Food was good (specifically the eggplant and the DIY hand rolls, but came out extremely slowly and the service was not ideal. Would give it another shot, but not our best dining experience!
Ordered to go, so take my review with a grain of salt. The food was ready to pick up moments after i ordered. The food was just bland. I know nothing will be as good as sitting down, but even then. THe noodles were all clumped together and lacked flavor. The broth wasn't all that great either. I was ordering to eat at a hotel and was given no utensils. No chopsticks, spoon, nothing. Not sure why that wouldnt be standard with ramen. The sushi, no soy sauce packets either and the sushi was no better or worse than what you'd get at a grocery store. I'm sure this place is fine if you were sitting down and eating, but if you order take out, you are not getting their finest food.
it was okay. just okay really. the service was lackluster, they hardly checked on us and we always had to flag them down to order, for more water or the check. the food was a little salty. we got t…
This used to be my go-to lunch spot in the area, but I was really upset to see that they’d updated their lunch menu recently and no longer offered yakitori at lunch or any of their yakitori rice bowl sets. The current set is fine, but unremarkable. The non alcoholic beverage options were also reduced (I didn’t notice my usual yuzu soda). I would really recommend that they at least somewhat revert to the old lunch menu, as I won’t be going here anymore otherwise.
Used to be my fave place in the city, and the cod roe cream udon being one of my favorite things to eat. I ordered the cod roe cream udon today and it came with chicken in it, of which I'm actually…
I’ve been going here since it opened in 2018. It used to be a fantastic restaurant. Japanese business men used to leave the airport and show up at this restaurant with their bags still in hand. I’ve never seen a restaurant drop so hard so fast though. The food is inedible now. Whereas it used to be high quality Japanese seafood simply prepared, it’s now fish just on the edge of rotting and covered in mayo, guacamole out of a can, or Costco Parmesan cheese (they love that here, they put it in everything!) My friend and I, expecting the same old restaurant, ordered several small dishes. The ikura was passable, but everything else looked like the TGIFriday’s rendition of Japanese yakitori (though I assume TGIF would have higher freshness standards). We could barely eat any of it. The last time I went there, which was a year ago, I couldn’t wait to go back. Now, I hope this place gets put out of its misery by the health inspectors. Had to ask for the check 4 times before I could leave this horror show.
This place is no longer good. Been here 3 times before the new menu and really loved it. Told everyone about it and gosh I’m wrong… Recently took my colleague here and they changed their menu. Not much to choose from and food is not that great quality wise, flavor is fine nothing special anymore. Not sure if the raw ceviche or wine or cream udon, I had food poisoning…yuck
