Peng's Noodle Folk New York Reviews
I am currently visiting New York City for a few days, and with so many incredible food options in this city, it can be honestly overwhelming trying to decide where to eat. However, I can confidently say that stumbling into Peng’s Noodle Folk on the Upper East Side was one of the best decisions I’ve made on this entire trip. It was exactly the kind of meal I was looking for—comforting, authentic, and incredibly delicious. The moment I walked in, I fell in love with the atmosphere. It feels like a true hidden gem away from the chaotic tourist traps. The space is cozy, warm, and inviting, with a really cool aesthetic that makes you feel instantly relaxed after a long day of walking around the city. The staff was also wonderful—super friendly and attentive to us visitors. Now, onto the food, because it was spectacular. We started with the Steamed Chicken Dumplings, and they were hands down some of the best dumplings I have ever had. The wrappers were perfectly thin and delicate (clearly handmade), and the chicken filling was so savory and juicy. They were served steaming hot, and the dipping sauce they came with was the perfect tangy complement. I highly recommend starting with these. For my main course, I ordered the Fried Chicken Ramen (Chicken Katsu Ramen), and it completely blew me away. I wasn't sure what to expect with fried chicken in soup, but it works perfectly. The chicken cutlet was massive—breaded to perfection with a serious crunch that held up beautifully against the rich broth. The broth itself was creamy, flavorful, and soul-warming, and the noodles had that perfect springy chewiness. Peng’s Noodle Folk is the kind of place I wish I had back home. If you are visiting NYC and find yourself near the Upper East Side, do not skip this place. It was a 10/10 experience and I will definitely be coming back the next time I am in town!
This place is amazing, and always there when you need it most. The food is delicious and consistently high quality. They offer a crucial accomodation for my fiance which is substituting their noodles for gluten free rice noodles. The staff are so kind go the extra mile to make sure you’re having a great meal. We come here so often that we’ve become familiar faces and they treat us like they’ve known us forever. Can’t recommend this place enough.
Had a great experience at Peng’s! Our server Otniel was amazing—super friendly, attentive, and checked in often without being overbearing. The vegetable ramen and Tonkotsu ramen were both incredibly flavourful and perfect for a cold day. Excellent service and comforting food all around. Highly recommend stopping by Peng’s for a meal!
I stopped by Peng’s Noodle Folk and left seriously impressed. I ordered the Marbled Pork Rib Ramen and a Sapporo draft, and both were spot on. The ramen broth was rich, deeply savory, and comforting without being too heavy. The pork ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender with just the right amount of fat – full of flavor and perfectly marbled. Noodles had that chewy, springy bite that tells you they’re freshly made or well-sourced. Every spoonful felt like a warm hug. The cold Sapporo on draft was served in a tall glass, crisp and refreshing. Honestly, one of the best pairings I’ve had in a while. The vibe inside is cozy and modern – wood tables, minimalist design, and a calm energy that makes you want to linger. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive. Whether you’re a ramen regular or just craving something satisfying and well-executed, Peng’s hits the mark. Definitely coming back for another bowl.
Love everything about this place. Even tho I went alone it’s actually the perfect place for a first date cause there’s no LOUD MUSIC!!! So about the food I got the crispy fried vegetable balls as an appetizer and Loved it… didn’t even really need the dipping sauce tbh. The chili oil is good. If you like spicy food or Dan Dan Noodles you’ll love the Tan Tan Men Noodles here I like spicy food so I got medium level. Before I was half way down I was SWEATING!!!🥵 But I enjoyed it 🥴🤷🏽♂️. I got a small hot sake for $9 and it was totally worth it, that vessel in the pic held enough Sake for me to fill my glass almost 3times 🕺🏾. Last but not least about the pricing… I got everything you see in the pictures for $40.58 that’s amazing to me for the UES… I left full and tipsy 🥴. Will definitely visit at least 2 a month. 🙌🏽
I have been coming to this restaurant for about 10yrs (since it orginally opened on 86th and 1st). They truly are THE ABSOLUTE BEST RAMEN! Not only in the UES, but I would say top 5 in all of NYC. It's owned by a hardworking couple who come in day after day to make these dishes fresh from scratch with out fail - inspired by their parents personal recipes. I have never had a bad meal. And on the rare occasion I don't like something they would rectify it. My favorite is the Marble Pork, but my whole family and I have had many dishes. I was sad they had to move 15 blocks away from their original location a few years ago, so it's harder for me to get there. However, the new spot has a pleasing aesthetic and relaxing outdoor space. I wish them all the best. And customers new and old are in for an experience!
We came because we saw photos of the dumplings that looked really good. We ordered the dumplings and the shrimp with soy sauce as starters, and the fried noodles with beef. Everything was very tasty! The restaurant was very beautiful inside, and the staff were really nice! There were other dishes on the menu that looked great — we might come back to try the ramen, which looked delicious from what we saw on other people’s tables.
Amazing experience at Peng's. We were seated right away. There were weekend beer deals. The servers were quick and very attentive. The chicken fried noodles were great. The pan seared chicken breast Ramen was so flavorful and delicious. The Yu Xiang Chicken Donburi was flavorful and had a good amount of spice to it. And if you want to order to go quick, they have a kiosk you can use by the entrance. Overall 5 star experience
I came out of a screening at the nearby Asia Society, frozen and hungry, just looking for a random place for dinner. And I stumbled upon this noodles place. I saw its ratings were high, but when the noodle with “marbled pork belly” came it didn’t strike me as special at all. Once I took a bite, the pork belly was probably the best I’d eaten my life. The fatty part literally melted in my mouth. At $16, it’s impeccable.
We had an amazing experience at this restaurant! 🍜 The ramen was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic. 🥟 The servers were friendly and welcoming, and they even recommended the dumplings, which turned out to be a must-try! We had such a great time, especially since it was a rainy day 🌧️, and the warm, comforting broth was just perfect for the weather. ☔ Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cozy and satisfying meal.
This easy to miss ramen restaurant that makes homemade noodles is filled with warmth and charm. The servers are welcoming and attentive yet discreet. The food is absolutely amazing. Like many restaurants in this part of Manhattan, it is not large inside. I arrived around noon shortly after the restaurant opened and I was immediately seated, but the place started to fill up by the time I left.
We tried their - Creamy Pineapple Shrimps, Fried Vegetable Balls, Yu Xiang Chicken Banmen with Udon, Mango Lychee Green Iced Tea Each dish was cooked to perfection, flavourful and perfect portion size. The service was very quick, and the staff were very friendly and patient. More people should discover this place, it is indeed a hidden gem ! Loved the food, service and the vibes of this place. It is on the pricier side given it's location (Upper East side New York), but the quality of the food would not disappoint you. Must try!
Had the ramen with chicken on the side - YUM! Staff was so kind and welcoming, it was very cozy in there. I really enjoyed it there. The food was a HUGE portion, was enough for two meals and I loved it.
This place was okay. There is a cute interior and fine service but the food was just alright. I got chicken katsu ramen which was a lot better reheated than it was at the actual restaurant. The vegetable dumplings were pretty good though. We were a party of two with no reservations on a Sunday evening and we were seated immediately. Perfect for groups of 2-4. The atmosphere is very quiet, you can hear everyone’s conversations.
