Had amazing meals here 3 times in the last 2 months. Food is amazingly delicious, service is top notch and the restaurant is tasteful decorated. The low tone background music is delightful. Very reasonably priced menu and their prefixed menu is a bargain. Food suggestions: dark meat chicken kebab, barg and Baghali Polo are to die for and for dessert try cotton candy and saffron ice cream.

I can’t stop thinking about the food at Persepolis! Everything was cooked to perfection—the rice was fluffy, the meats were tender, and the stews were packed with depth and complexity. It’s rare to find a place that gets everything right, but Persepolis does. The saffron-infused dishes were a highlight, and I can’t wait to go back! Heili delicious!

The food is unbelievably good. The meat is so tender and flavorful, and the rice pudding dessert was delicious as well.

A Hidden Gem in NYC I´ve been to many persian restaurants, but Persepolis stands out for its authenticity and quality. The kebabs were incredible juicy, and the flavours transported me straight to Iran. The portions were more then generous, and every bite was packed with aromatic spices. It´s a place I´ll be recommending to everyone I know!.

Had an excellent meal. Very attentive service and the food was amazing. Try the cotton candy for something different.

We went for lunch and had an extraordinary culinary adventure. The venue, simple, inviting. The staff, lovely, attentive but not on top of us. The food, Borani, Baba, Polo Albalo and a fish and beef and cinnamon stew, all beautiful. The yogurt most definitely homemade, the marriage of flavors and aromas divine. We each a wonderful glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, lingered over every bite. We are will go back in May during our next NYC trip.

Persepolis is hands down one of the best Persian restaurants I’ve been to! The flavors are rich, the portions generous, and you can taste the quality in every bite. I took home some of their takeaway items, and they were just as incredible the next day. The stews were deeply flavorful, and the grilled meats? Simply melt-in-your-mouth perfection. A must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Persian cuisine!

Try the lamb and the filet mignon skewers. The meat was fall off the bone and the filet mignon skewers were so tender and melts in your mouth!!

Unparalleled Hospitality From the moment we stepped in, the service at Persepolis was impeccable. The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about their food. Every dish was an explosion of flavors, perfectly balanced and incredibly fresh. You can tell everything is prepared with love and tradition. If you’re in NYC and haven’t tried this place yet, you’re seriously missing out!

“Spinach pie” was amazing & name doesn’t do it justice. It was experience of wild herbs/greens with intense pops of spicy/fruity dried barberries! Saffron chicken so juicy w interesting dipping sauces. Entrees served w interesting choice of rices & i chose one with more of those barberries I was so enchanted with!!!

Food & drinks, service, and atmosphere are all wonderful! I recommend the dolmas, filet mignon kebab, and the lamp chops. I went here on a date night and had a lovely evening. Really nice, white-table-cloth-type restaurant but at a reasonable price.

I went for lunch and have a lunch special and it was so good. There are so many selections here. I just could barely decide. If you get the lunch special. He let me get the Ghormeh Sabzi even though it's not on the menu selections for the lunch special. Lunch isn't really busy, so you'll get your food really quickly and you can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

This restaurant is excellent. And the food OMG. We were celebrating my mother’s birthday. We ordered appetizers like baba, eggs plant, sambusa, falafel. . Our entrees, Basa, lamb shops, lamb shank, chicken jubilee, Cornish hen etc. Really nice decoration. Definitely we’re coming back. Our waitress was Christian he was excellen, help us the food and with our wine selection, desserts plus pictures

I would kill for their Polo Albalo and Polo Zareshk (rice sides). They taste sooo yummy, it is like a buttery goodness that sings in your mouth. They go really well with the kebabs. The barbari bread they served with the yogurt and beets starter is also to die for. It is super light and airy, we asked for more of it. The pita bread is ok, but is not as special. We love their Baba too.

My girlfriend and I went to Persepolis for a slow late lunch recently. I had the lamb shank and it was excellent! My girlfriend had a lentil stew and rice. She really liked her meal a lot. In fact, Persepolis is one of my girlfriend’s favorite restaurants in Manhattan. Persepolis is very vegetarian friendly. I also really liked the place because they do meat extremely well. So we’re both happy!! For dessert, we had outstanding baklava!!

Went for solo dining. Food was amazing, very flavorful and tasty. I had an Eggplant Mirza and beef kebab. Portions for the main dishes are quite decent. Service was very good and fast as well. Everyone starting from the manager to waiters very very friendly and nice. I will definitely come again to try other items from their menu. Check for appetizer and main dish was nearly $50 including tax and tips.

Persian food is a rare treat to come by, even in a place like NYC. Persepolis has mastered classic dishes like Shirazi salad and fesenjan (shredded chicken with pomegranates and crushed walnuts) and offers great lunch and drink specials, with ample customization options m. If you love florals, I’d recommend a Persian martini - brought to life by rose water and saffron. Service is warm and hospitable! This spot is a must in UES!

Delicious food that everyone will enjoy. Persian/Iranian food is familiar—chicken, fish, ground beef—but with a twist. Incredibly kind, patient waiters, plenty of space, peaceful. Note: If the pandemic is still going on and you’ve forgotten your proof-of-vaccination, you can always eat in the temporary space on the sidewalk (which is COMPLETELY protected from the rain). I had the branzini (fish) which comes with lots of rice and herbs and I loved it. Filling, fresh, and just very, very easy to love. With lots of drinks, $100 for lunch for two. This is becoming our favorite restaurant on the East Side.

Honest review (04/11/23) **$25 lunch combo of an appetizer + entree w/choice of rice If you would like a quiet and dark atmosphere then I would recommend inside. But I liked watching people and cars while sitting in the patio section. I got the Hummus (appetizer) and basa fish in lemon sauce (entree) with polo baghali. The HUMMUS tasted fresh with the perfect mixture of chickpeas, tahini, olive oil and garlic. The BASA FISH was good, but way to buttery for my tastebuds, but with the rice it captured the buttery-ness. First time trying YOGURT & CUCUMBER which was nice and refreshing with the bread, but I would prefer hummus more than the yogurt & cucumber tho. My personal preference. The restaurant was not busy when we walked in and the server gave us enough time to look through the menu and have us order. There is only street parking which is hard to find, but an option is to take the train and walk :) There is restrooms inside too. Taste 9/10 Texture 9/10 Visual 10/10 Service 9/10 Definitely recommend coming to this restaurant if you are in the area.

Had the price fixe lunch there and was very pleasantly surprised!! Food was excellent, service swift, presentation sharp and price unbeatable! For starters we had hummus and the yoghurt cucumber… then the beef stew Khoresht Sabzi (one without cinnamon) and the awesome Lemon Chicken with the molten lemon butter very delicious! Can highly recommend it…and so does the picky daughter…

Meat is tender and juicy. Persian bread is a new find for me. Same with the basmati rice with cherry what a surprise! It pairs very well with the meat we got. And Beef kebab and saffron chicken. Ambiance is romantic. Not noisy. Dessert is coming up. Update: dessert menu uploaded

Amazing amazing amazing. I don't give 5 stars just like that. I've been in New York for 3 weeks eating as much if a variety of foods as I could and Persepolis was hands down the best. We had 4 different tapas entrees dessert tea and wine. The entire gamut was tops. Bottle of wine for under $40 and just great food and service. If you are into Iranian/ Persian foods and cultures don't miss it.

One of the most delicious meals I've had in awhile. We got the shirazi salad and dolma to start which were delightful, perfectly seasoned. Then for our mains we shared the soltani chicken kebabs and the khoresht fasenjoon with the sour cherry and barberry rices. We were joking that we were glad this restaurant isn't super close to where we live in the city because we'd be here every day 😆! If you're in the UES or just looking for one of the best meals in the city, come here!

The it was my first time ever trying Persian food and this was such a wonderful introduction. The food was spectacular and the service was even better. The waiters are very attentive and the food came out very quickly. The portions are sizable and everything comes out super quick. I had the chicken and beef duo and it was amazing. The cherry rice was such a unique addition but I couldn’t recommend it more. Drinks were good too!! Absolute 10/10 vibe, food, and service.

I had a great dining experience at Persepolis, a well-established Persian restaurant that has been serving New York City since 1991. I started with the barley soup appetizer (barley, chickpeas, red kidney beans, and herbs), served with Persian bread. It was warm, comforting, and flavorful. For the main course, I ordered Gaimeh – vegan option, made with tomatoes, split peas, cinnamon, eggplant, and dried lime, along with steamed white basmati rice. The dish was rich, balanced, and very satisfying. Gaimeh is usually offered with beef or as a vegetarian dish, so I asked the server for clarification and was pleased to learn that the vegetarian version is actually fully vegan. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. While dessert options were not vegan, I was happy with the overall meal. Persepolis offers solid choices for both vegans and meat eaters, making it a great place to dine with friends who have different dietary preferences. I highly recommend it for authentic Persian food and friendly service.

This was our first time to this place as we are in New York for the holidays. It was an absolute delight to be there. Everything was so delicious and we got the Gaime and Kubideh which according to my Persian wife tasted like her Grandma’s. We would absolutely love to visit Persepolis again. They were kind enough to give us their rice pudding and Cotton candy on the house and it was mind blowing.

Sara AH

Impeccable service! The staff truly go above and beyond. Also, they have vegeterian options for all the stews, which is a brilliant idea! Very reasonably priced for the quality of food. The two of us had a lot to eat, three generous appetizers with lots of freshly baked bread, and 2 huge main courses in addition to soft drinks, and it all came out to $117 tax included. The restaurant was packed for dinner on a Wednesday evening, and consisted of a very diverse crowd. Even though it was busy, they did not rush us, and brought the check only when we asked for it. They also welcomed my registered service dog who performs a medical task, so I felt at ease during dinner. My dog rested comfortably underneath the table while keeping an eye on me. Make sure to check out all the art on the walls!

The food and Atmosphere were amazing. You truly cannot go wrong with anything on this menu. Everything is very flavorful and cooked well. The Martini was also truly amazing. This was by far the best Persian Cuisine I have ever had. The chicken was seasoned to perfection. The rice was so fluffy and light, it practically melted in my mouth. The condiments and side dishes just added to the overall culinary experience. As for the service, I felt as if I was the only customer in the restaurant. With five-star service, and an atmosphere that was almost like sitting in my living room partaking in a great meal, I felt as though I was eating among family. As far as my Persian culinary experience overall, I couldn't have asked for a better restaurant to satisfy my exotic, epicurean palate. Persepolis is definitely a Gem among New York City Restaurants that should be experienced by all.

Persopolis is hands down my favorite Persian restaurant in the city, and also the oldest. Every visit feels like a warm, comforting experience with food that is consistently delicious. My all-time favorite is their dill rice with lemon chicken, it’s just PERFECT! I also love their fish dishes and kebabs, always cooked to perfection. Don’t miss their appetizer, fresh bread with Kashk Bademjoon. It is SO good! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect spot whether you’re out with friends or simply craving something hearty and satisfying. What makes the experience even better is the staff. They are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always make you feel right at home. Persopolis is one of those rare restaurants you can return to again and again, and still discover something new to enjoy. It’s authentic, consistent, and has truly become my comfort spot for Persian food in the city.

I had an outstanding experience at this Persian restaurant. The food was absolutely excellent—rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and true to authentic Persian taste. Every dish was cooked to perfection, from the appetizers to the main courses. The service was equally impressive. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience. And don’t forget the tea 🫖🤩 I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for top-quality Persian cuisine paired with exceptional service. I will definitely be coming back!

Went here with a friend and sat outside to enjoy the sun a bit. We both did the Inflation special and ordered the lemon chicken and rice. Which was really good. I would go back for that. Tried their version of the cotton candy in the end and that was a different experience. Service was excellent, would def go back for that chicken. Also the beet salad is very good and to share.

Persepolis was overall a great experience, I came here looking for a really good beef kubideh and that’s exactly what I got. The rice was actually amazing as well, and they gave several authentic Persian rice selections (I ordered the polo zereshk and I couldn’t be more happy with it). However, the lentil soup was lacking in flavor and the dessert (saffron rice pudding) was a bit of a miss. To me, that didn’t matter as much because they really did a great job with the main dish. All in all, I’m happy with the experience and will likely be back

Persepolis is fantastic. We had never been, but it was on my list to try — and we definitely should have gone sooner! From the warm greeting at the door, to the impeccable and friendly service throughout, to the delicious dishes — a 10/10 experience! We started with white sangrias & two apps — the yogurt & shallots (with delicious warm bread) and the stuffed dumplings with mint sauce. My mom had the lentil soup (mouthwateringly good!). For our mains — I had the saffron chicken which was so juicy and tender and rice with barberries on the side. My husband and mom both had lamb dishes with the fava bean rice which was so yummy! We rounded out with dessert — baklava, cotton candy, rice pudding & they treated us to a complimentary saffron Icecream scoop each. The cotton candy was INSANELY delicious and totally unexpected. If you have to pick one dish, pick that one! Comes with 4 pieces. The baklava was sweet, sticky & flavorful. The rice pudding was the 3rd on our list, it was OK — very different from rice puddings we had before, a bit more watery but still good flavor (personally I don’t love rice pudding, so that’s also a factor!)

We have walked by Persepolis many times but tonight we decided to dine there. Their restaurant is lovely and while there were many guests, the room felt quiet, which in a New York City restaurant is a unique experience. The service was impeccable and everything we ordered was delicious. We started with an appetizer of Babaganoush. To my surprise it was served warm with walnuts and it was very different yet absolutely delightful. The appetizer was served with warm homemade bread. We split two dishes, their chicken stew and their salmon kabobs. Each dish was served with delicious rice. Our meal was exquisite and While we would have loved to have dessert, we were too full. However before giving us our bill they served us a very delicious pistachio dessert that literally melted in our mouths!

I frequented Persepolis when I lived on the UES! It is a great spot to go to if you are wanting a delicious Persian / Mediterranean meal. The atmosphere (inside and outside) of Persepolis is also very nice- calming, warm, and welcoming. The servers were also always kind and attentive. My favorite things at Persepolis was the yogurt+cucumber, shirazi salad, their chicken, and their basmati rice with sour cherries!

Chicken was tender! Ghormeh sabzi smells so good! Mirza eggplant was not exactly the traditional Persian Mirza, it was delicious tho! They offered us a free rose water ice cream that was incredible 😊

The atmosphere was warm when coming in and not crowded. Fast service, got seated and served all within 20 minutes on a Friday night. I had gotten salmon kabob with rice that was a huge portion! Servers could have been a bit friendlier, which is why I didn't give 5 stars but would come back! Prices are a bit expensive but not surprising.

S
Sara M

We stopped by this place as we were looking for a good Persian restaurant close by and tried the kubideh kebab and Fesenjoon stew. The food was delicious but the portion could have been a little bigger since us, Persians, love to get stuffed by Kebab! The walnut stew (Fesenjoon) was too sweet which we did not like much. The price was reasonable due to the location. All in all, it worths trying once!

S
Sami Holler

The food and service is good. The ambiance is nice as well. This is the third time I go to this restaurant and the staff is friendly. The only reason I give 4 stars and not 5 is that before even I finish my meal the waiter/busboy asked me if I need something else. My response not now and he immediately brought the check, as if telling me get out of here! The restaurant wasn't full or so.

M

You can choose your own rice which makes it unique among other Persian restaurants. Delicious food. Owner checked to make sure my order was ok. Icecream was superb. I got all saffron.

A comfy and quite decent Persian restaurant geared more toward local upper east siders than Persians, although my Persian companion said the food was good in a city where there are not so many options for Persian cuisine. Also, there is a varied menu and a nice accommodation for vegans as well, which some local Persian restaurants do not offer. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the service is decent and overall it’s a good spot if you are curious about trying some Persian food classics.

Came here on Thursday evening for late dinner with some work colleagues. We were seated immediately. Service was great and food was decent. The rice felt a bit stale but still complemented the chicken kebab. The interior is definitely give fine dining vibes.

I really like this place. It is a warm and comfortable restaurant with high ceilings and a feeling of openness. Most importantly, the food is delicious, fresh, and beautifully plated. They serve bread and tahini (upon request), and the portions are quite ample! The lentil soup is a must try, and the ground chicken dish has become a favorite of mine. They didn't serve coffee the time I was there, which was a drawback for me. I opted for their tea instead, which happened to be a pleasant surprise. The place is charming, with little details such as brown sugar cubes, and salt and pepper mills that make this place endearing and a local go-to for me.

We tried out this restaurant as it was close to the Frick Madison and we both enjoyed our meal. We went for the lunch special that included a starter and a main dish Starting with grape leaves and hummus, the former was zingy in a good way but not too spicy and the hummus was pleasant too. For the main we had the basa fish in lemon sauce and a chicken kebab. The kebab was pretty standard but was glad I order the basa fish on a whim as it was lovely. Prices were good, pleasant restaurant decor and food was served very quickly. Would go again.

Flavorful Persian food with a large focus on kebabs and dips. Meats were well seasoned and grilled but unfortunately came in small portions relative to the rice and sides. Tachin was impressive to have on the menu but wasn’t as crispy as I’d have liked it. Service was friendly and helpful, and the vibe was busy at dinner time!

Nice big open space beautifully decorated. Attentive staff. Ordered 3 different plates. Bland zero flavor. I was so disappointed. Your average falafel joint has more flavor. I know Persian food can be much better than this but something is wrong here.

It’s been a while since we had a middle Eastern meal and much to our surprise to find Persepolis while visiting a friend in the Upper East Side which specializes in Persian cuisine. For Sunday brunch they offer a package of appetizer and entree for $22. They first served homemade bread and Shirazi salad; cucumber, tomato, parsley, cilantro with citrus juice that suited well with my wine of choice of Rosé. While my partner selected hummus. It was then followed by ground beef kebab with my choice of polo albalo (basmati rice with sour cherries) while my partner chose Basa fish with Polo Adas (Basmati rice with lentils and raisins) the dishes are flavorful and freshly made and just quite right. We didn’t feel overwhelmed!. It was a good Sunday brunch, good customer service, and excellent value. We will come back here and try some other dishes on the menu when we are in the area next.

I had mixed feelings about the food at perspolis. While the kebab plate was delicious, the Ghorme and Fesenjoon were disappointing. The ambiance was cozy and the staff were friendly, but the ice cream was lackluster. Prices were high and small portions.

The food was okay. It was very buttery. The workers were kind and the restaurant was clean. The price was okay. The food quality didn’t justify the price.

Take your money elsewhere!! Flavor profile is standard for cuisine like this, but the portion size is insulting. I am a small woman and I’m pretty sure a toddler would still be hungry. We paid 45$ per person and still left hungry. We ordered the lunch special, I got the Shirazi salad (see photo attached for portion size), barley soup (which was a standard metric cup’s worth of soup), and some beef stew that came with no beef and some rice. Only beans. I kid you not there were maybe two pieces of meat total in the entire stew. The dessert was mediocre, the cotton candy tasted like sand in my mouth and the rice pudding was just really lacking any sort of flavor, texture, etc. Definitely not an authentic place. Go elsewhere. Plenty of nicer places in the city that won’t rip you off. Also the toasted bread they brought us was burnt. ☺️

We were looking forward to dining here and brought a large group of around 15 people. The restaurant was quite nice upon entry. However service was slow and not welcoming or warm. The food was bland and lackluster all around. The gormeh sabzi had no dried limes and lacked tartness and it was watered down. The lentil soup was good but cold. The koobideh was very processed in appearance and taste. It was almost like a mashup - more like meatloaf in texture. The rice was saturated with fat - not sure if it was butter, margarine (which would be a nightmare) or a vegetable oil. The geimeh/vegetarian stew was bland as well and lacked any flavor. The Shirazi salad had no onions! Dishes came out very late. The orders were placed at the same time but one person would receive their stew while another person ordering that same stew would receive theirs 30 min later all while sitting awkwardly while others were all served. The saffron rice pudding didn't impress any of us, including the kids which was a big shock. Not sure if the owner's physical absence fueled this mediocrity. Perhaps things were much better in the past? Unfortunately, this was our first and will be our last time dining at Persepolis. Everyone in our party expressed their disappointment- even our kids who are in love with Persian food weren’t happy at all.

I recently visited this Restaurant with my friends and family, and I was extremely disappointed. The rice was nearly raw, and the kebab was of very poor quality—definitely not what you’d expect from an Iranian restaurant. On top of that, the prices were unbelievably high for such low-quality food. It felt like a complete waste of money. The overall experience was awful, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your time, money, and appetite and find a better option elsewhere.

I have been ordering from them for years. Bottom line I used to recommend this place as best Persian in Manhattan. After I received a half bitten grilled onion in my order, and called the restaurant to notify them, they got defensive and told me to stop ordering and hung up the phone. In the Era of Covid and Monkeypox , I believe there are many other places to patron that do not sell old half bitten food.

We did not eat here, we booked a seat and when we arrived the restaurant was full. After half an hour of waiting the waiter offered us to sit 4 pax around a small table of two. of course we told him that it make no sense. Then he spoke to us very rudely, gave us a feeling that we were not welcome at his restaurant and we had to go. With such a terrible attitude and bad service you i will not go there again.

Food was not good. It didn't taste like Persian food. It was just bad American version of Persian food. The Barbari bread was nice and fresh though. :)

Don’t be fooled by the atmosphere and pictures. I am Persian. Food was an absolute no go. Only way it was worth it is if the price was divided by 8 ($5 instead of $40). Only thing that was done right was atmosphere and maybe the waiters? But I think they walked around too much and didn’t let us have private conversations. My advice for the owner to be more successful (because I want good Persian food restaurants to go to): make the food better (not lukewarm when it gets to the table, like it was microwaved, so cook it when ordered not in advance and maybe higher a real Persian to cook); let the waiters sit back and let the customers know to raise a hand when they need something; and if you cannot do those things, then divided the price of everything by about 7 or 8. The atmosphere and look of the restaurant was really fancy and nice, but what’s that matter if the reason I came was to eat. Hope this helps, because y’all are disgracing the name Persepolis.
