This is my first time trying local Greek food as I had a favorite in Brooklyn that closed during the pandemic. Symposium will be my new go to spot. The service was excellent and the food was delicious.

We were there in December and came across Symposium while walking. We were impressed by the cozy atmosphere and the amazing service we received. Our server knew a lot about the history of the restaurant and was helpful in suggesting a wine with dinner. The hummus, lemon potatoes and steamed vegetables were all very savory! I highly recommend and we will be back next time in NYC!

We went on a chilly Saturday afternoon before the Columbia students were back. The restaurant was quiet, and we had a lovely, relaxing meal. Food was excellent! Service was a little slow but very friendly and kind.

I'm OBSESSED. The food is impeccable! Get the tzatziki and the lemon potatoes! Everyone is so sweet and the vibes are always warm and charming. It's a must visit for me whenever I'm in town!

We walked in on a Monday night, was seated fast. Decor was nice. Noise level was decent. Good came out quick. Waiter was good. The food was delicious. Took the soup to go, and was excellent. The food wasnt greasy. The plates were huge, so the price to food portion was a good value. We had some Mythos and Alfa beers. It felt like we were sitting back in Santorini on a late night dinner date.

The Avgolemono soup was nice way to start a meal. The only regret was that I ordered a cup rather than a bowl. The Pastitsio was reminiscent of a lasagna with prominent notes of cinnamon and other spices. The dining area exuded a warm inviting feeling that made me feel welcome. The staff was also nice.

Great food! Our server was super kind and the food came out in a timely manner. Our group enjoyed every dish we ordered! The lamb was perfect. Highly recommend!

Cute and cozy. We were there late, so it was empty inside. Every dish we ordered was amazing and we shared it all. Had a couple of bottles of wine that they got for us even though it was close to closing. We rushed ourselves out so they weren’t waiting on us, but we never felt rushed by the staff. Again, delicious food ! Kind staff.

We had dinner at Symposium for the first time tonight and everything was wonderful. Our favorites were the octopus, the mezze sampler (especially the tirokafteri), and the classic moussaka. The flavors had the perfect home cooked depth, true Greek classics. The vibe is homey and cozy, great for a group of friends or families. We had the nicest servers, Alex and Elena, and we appreciated their hospitality. The portion sizes were also generous and even though we were stuffed I’m glad we made room for dessert and Greek coffee- definitely recommend the galaktoboureko. We will be coming back for sure!

WOW!!! Best spinach pie ever! My wife spent time living in Greece and ate a spinach pie every day for lunch. She has been trying to find a similar pie for me to enjoy since I was not there. We have had spinach pies from the West coast to NYC. Here we found the best she has ever had and me as well. It was huge, thick, full of fresh spinach and cheese, flaky outside, hot, and served with style! Thank you!

The food is top notch delicious! Our waiter Chris was super helpful and answered all questions. He even let us taste 3 different wines before choosing the wine we liked! Highly recommend trying this place out you won't be disappointed. 👍🏻

Very varied and good quality Greek dishes. The 2 course special menu is excellent value for money, at 20 dollars. Healthy and tasty food. I recommend the Lavraki fillet and Youvetsi Me Keftedes.

Highly Highly Highly recommended! The general vibe of the restaurant feels homey and cozy, the staff is very nice, and most importantly; the food is delicious! The portions are big so you won't leave hungry! They also have a special selection of wines that I recommend to try! It's located close to the 1 train (Colombia University) so getting there is not a problem at all. I definitely will be coming back!!

This restaurant is reminiscent of old style New York City homes with brick walls, wooden panels, and low lit environment. The service Sunday evening was excellent and delightful. The meal was delicious and well served.

If you are a fan of Greek food this place is the one ! Amazing food and outstanding service, Elena and Nino are very nice and professional. We loved every single thing we tried from Dips platter to grilled calamari, chicken gyro lamb souvlaki and lamb shank. The wine , the beers and the sangria are also delicious. I would recommend this place to everyone. Thank you Symposium for an amazing dinner.

Very nice cozy restaurant with rich history and great Staff. Chef Dan came out and explained each dish that was brought out. Love the ambiance there, which is perfect for date night in a nice, quiet area of the city. I would recommend Symposium to anyone and EVERYONE!! Superb Greek cuisine and the sangria is delish!!

This restaurant is definitely one of those jewels! It’s filled with eclectic artwork and the owners are super passionate about all the history of the space. It’s such a cozy spot. They are so warm and welcoming too!! There’s a hidden secret garden that’s so cool. The place is like a treasure chest! The food is delicious! They have so much to choose from. I think my favorites are the Pastitio, the Spicy Feta Dip, The Chicken Kebab, Meatballs… well I guess I just love everything! The wine is perfect too! This place is great for groups or parties or an intimate date night!

We had lunch. The dishes are pretty big, sharing a small symposyum as an appetizer and asking a souvlaki lamb then, I was completely full, even though I was pretty hungry. Anastasio, the server, makes you feel like you’re in a truly greek restaurant, given his knowledge of each dish and his greek soul. My brother and his girlfriend ordered a chicken gyro platter each, which was also really big and yummy. We were three and spent a total of $67. I’ll definitely come back.

I've been eating at Symposium for 29 years - at least once a year and, on many years, multiple times. My favorite Greek restaurant anywhere. You must must get the mixed-salad appetizer. Along with the warm pita that comes with it - I can eat this dish any day, every day!

Ate at this historic restaurant with a friend who works at Columbia nearby . The space itself is incredibly beautiful. One of the loveliest and most welcoming spaces I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant. Service was also great and I appreciate that they chill the water in the ice bucket with the white wine so it comes to the table refreshingly cold. The food was ok. We both got the puréed potato and beet appetizer which was excellent. My friend got a lamb burger that he really liked. I got the chicken souvlaki which was nothing to write home about. Both were part of a lunch special deal. The table beside us got saganaki and a whole fish. That looked like a better meal, though I’m sure it cost more. In short, I would go back but probably order something not on the lunch special menu.

The inside of this restaurant felt capacious and cavernous. I must admit that I found it a little bit dark and isolating. But that's less a fault of the restaurant than a consequence of my being there by myself at around 3:00 in the afternoon. As for the food, it was fine. I had the lamb. It was neither the best nor the worst lamb I've had in my life. Portions were reasonably sized, and the price was reasonable. I have few explicit complaints, except that I want more than the simply adequate when I choose to go out to eat. So I'm giving three stars, though I admit that had I come here with a large party at around 7:00 or 8:00 at night, the atmosphere would have felt much more soothing and bustlingly alive.

Terrible experience. Made a reservation yesterday (for today), received multiple confirmations, showed up to find the restaurant closed/under construction. The workers there called the owner who angrily shouted "Can't you see the sign says it's closed?" I told him we had a reservation, but before I could proceed he hung up. Not even an apology. I used to love this restaurant years ago but will never go back.
