Tony's New York Reviews
As a Brit, you grow up watching movies like The Godfather and thats how you see old school Italian American restaurants in New York. But what the movies didn't show was how good the food was or the amazing atmosphere of these storied institutions, and Tony's is one of them for me. The food was simple and exemplary, the manager told us the guy that makes the sauce has been doing it for 30 years and it shows. Beware though, when it says portions feed 2 to 3 people they really mean it! The floor staff are personable and when I say efficient, I mean they work as a well oiled machine on the dining room floor, it's a symphony of grace and gnocchi, a joy to watch. Go for the food, stay for the show, and as one famous mobster once said "leave the gun and take the cannoli"
Dining at Tony's Di Napoli was truly one of the most fun and memorable stops on our New York trip. The restaurant has a beautiful, classic Italian setup and design that instantly gives you the feeling of being in Italy. I loved the walls covered with photos of so many famous people, it adds so much character and history to the place. The food was fairly good, though for me it felt more Americanized than truly authentic Italian. That said, the portions are absolutely massive. Whatever you order, keep in mind that at least three people can easily share one dish and feel completely full. The atmosphere is outstanding, but the absolute best part of this place is the staff. They are incredible, so friendly, fun to talk to, and clearly experienced with guests from all over the world. Their energy, warmth, and sense of humor made our visit even more enjoyable. We truly enjoyed the conversations and the overall vibe. This was definitely one of our best stops in New York.
DELICIOUS food! Been here twice and it is Absolutely amazing! Has the cutest atmosphere, men singing, beautiful restaurant, great costumer service. I’d recommend the rigatoni al vodka pasta and cavatelli, broccoli rabe and sausage. So so so good and if you’re visiting New York would recommend stopping here
This restaurant is a full experience I would say. Service is super friendly and helpful. And there is show while you eat. One of the waiters sings in Italian and they want you to participate applauding along. It was a shock at first but so enjoyable. Food was delicious but massive quantity, it’s meant to be shared. It was a bit pricey, but after seeing the quantity and the atmosphere, it’s understandable. Maybe it would be better for a bigger group, but it was nice for a couple too. Restaurant was clean and toilets too. They were downstairs.
The italian-american experience that we were looking for. Nice place, huge portions meant to be shared, and prices according to the quality of the food and the environment. We had the fettuccini al fredo and the ravioli Bolognese, crowning the experience with a tiramisu. Solid order for three hungry males. Drinking tap water and some diet cokes we spent 43 USD per person, including tip and tax.
This is a family style restaurant, it says each order is good for 2-3 people but it’s actually good for 4 if your have a normal appetite. The food was very good, so was service. There’s a waiter who loved to sing. He will sing a Happy Birthday song plus another song to a birthday table. During our dinner there, he sang 6 songs. He is actually pretty good. I think he enjoyed more than the birthday person. 🤣 it’s definitely worth dining there.
Food was superb, will definitely be back to try other menu items. Wait staff were all super nice. Only slight negative was it was super crowded and therefore hard to navigate a path through to the bathrooms. It could also have been a bit brighter, but that's nit picking i guess. Wait time was around 2 hours dinnertime on a sunday for 3
We had a great experience at Tony Di Napoli’s in Manhattan! The food was fantastic, we especially loved the spaghetti and meatballs and the fettuccine, both perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The service was friendly, fast, and made us feel right at home. The whole atmosphere has that warm, lively New York Italian charm that makes dining there such a pleasure. Highly recommend Tony Di Napoli’s for anyone looking for delicious, classic Italian food and excellent service in the heart of the city! 🍝🇮🇹
There’s always a huge line and the dining room is constantly packed — but it’s absolutely worth it. Really worth it. The food at Tony’s Di Napoli is delicious, and the portions are massive. One entrée can easily be shared by two people without anyone leaving hungry. That alone already wins points. The interior is unforgettable — beautiful, classic, and very Italian. It adds to the whole experience and makes the wait feel justified. Highly recommended.
There are locals and there are tourists and even though there are mixture of people, still create such a unified energetic atmosphere! We went there around 4:00 but it was already full of energy with people drinking and eating and just having fun! The food was amazing and the portion was very big so I recommend going there with a group of people so that you can try different kind of dish! You can definitely bring leftovers home but cannot compare eating the freshly made food while enjoying the space! To my surprise it was not as expensive as I thought if you consider the amount that they are giving you! But with strings I think it would make the price go up a bit more. Since the place is very energetic it is very hard to have a decent conversation without having to have to raise the voice level a bit...
This was a great place to eat. We had to wait despite the reservation, but it's NYC, so we expected it to be busy. Once seated, the servers came to the table quickly. Speaking of which, the servers were efficient and professional. The dishes were all excellent, exactly what you'd expect from a classic Italian restaurant. Plus, we have gluten free restrictions and they didn't even flinch. I definitely recommend it.
The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and a classic Italian-American vibe, which fits well with the busy Times Square area. It can get crowded and noisy, but that’s expected for the location. The food was good and served in large family-style portions, which is great for sharing. Some dishes stood out more than others, but everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. Prices are a bit on the higher side, though understandable given the area. Service was generally friendly and efficient, even with the restaurant being very busy. We didn’t feel rushed, and the staff handled the crowd well. Overall, Tony’s Di Napoli is a good option if you’re around Times Square and want classic Italian comfort food with generous portions. Not the best Italian spot I’ve ever been to, but definitely a reliable and enjoyable choice.
What can I say? It's Tony Di Napoli's! Food was awesome, and A LOT, atmosphere was amazing - New York Italian, and the service was spectacular. We had a New York strip, and seafood linguine with white wine sauce. Shrimp, mussels, clams and calamari over a bed of delicious linguine! We split it 3 ways and didn't finish it. I can't think of a bad thing to say. Go! You'll enjoy it!
Dined here due to its closeness to Belasco theatre. Perfect date night before a Broadway show. Went in on a Thursday night for two with no reservation, but it was already busy, so a reservation would be a good idea. The service was great, had everything we needed. The drinks weren’t outrageously expensive for the size. And the food was elevated, but it still reminded me of a classic Italian dinner.
Very nice New York Italian atmosphere! There was some excellent singing! The staff made us feel very special and took care of us the whole time. Portions are big, we shared three and ordered a great red wine. We did not finish them so we were able to take them away! Great quality! Visited in November 2025
My wife insisted that we go Tony’s first night here. We ate at the bar. We started with Bridget and ended up with Carlos Cruz. He was fantastic. They were gonna close early due to the blizzard. We loved it, the food was great and the personal service was even better. To the owner of the place, please take care of your crew because they are your driving force and that is what keeps bringing clients back for your delicious food.
Is this a place FULL of tourists...yes. But as a local, sometimes its fun to be in that environment. The food was surprisingly good and the service was great! NY is not known for the greatest service so I was pleasantly surprised. We weren't rushed out and they even asked us when we wanted the pasta started so we could enjoy our conversation and salad. We got the rigatoni alla vodka with chicken and the special salad, Italian salata salad. HUGE portions. That would have been good for 3-4 people. Great place if you have guests in town and are looking for a good meal while exploring Time Square. This place is good for families and large groups.
Food was excellent ! And company even better!! Ordered calamari for appetizer and the chicken parm and penne pasta with marinera sauce for an entree. Their sauce is fresh, delicious and a little on the sweet side, yum! Portions are family style so bring your appetite and relatives or friends you like.. 😋
Visited New York for the day to see Christmas sites and heard great things about the food and the service. Highly recommend Tony’s. Carlos took care of us at the bar; The host Alex even charged our phones given we left Maryland at 5:30am and were dubbing at 4pm after shopping and visiting Rockefeller Bryant Park, etc. AG was awesome. The food did not disappoint; worth every penny. Fresh and excellent! Highly recommend if you like Iltalian cuisine 🤩
What a meal. Go on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is amazing!!!!! There was singing that made everything better. Way much better than Carmine's. Go here instead. We can't believe how good the food was. The Fettuccine Alfredo was excellent. The Branzino was cooked perfectly. Take your family with you since this restaurant only serves family portions.
We reserved a table at Tony’s Friday night in the lower level. It was super busy almost full house. We ordered Calamari, Cesar salad, Pinewheel Lasagna and New York 12 oz steak. We got a much bigger steak though. I noticed it was bigger but didn’t see the mismatch till I checked the receipt later on I ordered the steak medium rare but it was rather rare. Still quite tasty and good quality The Lasagna was phenomenal So good that we would dip the steak in the Lasagna sauce! The calamari and the salad were also huge! We ended up not finishing the steak. There were a few birthdays going on downstairs and it was pretty loud for our liking but I liked the vibe. The restaurant is beautiful. A gorgeous wall painting downstairs and some cool portraits upstairs make it look very interesting.
Ate at Tony’s Di Napoli and absolutely loved it. This place is always busy, but for good reason. The food is delicious, classic Italian, and served family-style with HUGE portions — definitely come hungry and ready to share. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, perfect for families, groups, or celebrations. It feels like a big Italian family dinner with nonstop energy, great service, and plates that just keep coming. Everything we tried was flavorful and satisfying, and leftovers are basically guaranteed. If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly spot with amazing food and generous portions, this place delivers every time. Totally worth it.
A wonderful post show place for dinner. Loved the family style food service, great food and over the top desserts - along with a lively, bustling atmosphere and very friendly and attentive service. Our waiter had a wonderful singing voice as well. Loved it - made the whole day trip to NYC memorable. Highly recommend.
The restaurant has extremely friendly staff and service. Lots of options on the menu. Beware there servings are huge. One pasta plate serves about 3 people. You are able to get half servings which is a bonus. I had the seafood linguine which had mussels, shrimp and calamari. All the seafood was coke to perfection. The chicken Alfredo was also delicious according to my sister I law. Great location in time square New York. The restaurant is clean but a little out dated.
This is a fantastic spot for a classic Italian meal, especially when dining with a group. The location is ideal as it is right in the heart of Times Square and easy to get to, making it a convenient meeting place. The atmosphere is warm, lively, and inviting, with that old-school Italian charm that makes you feel comfortable and ready to settle in for a great meal. We loved that the menu is served family-style, which made it easy and fun to order a variety of dishes to share. The menu offers all the Italian classics you’d hope for, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, with very generous portions. Be sure to leave room for dessert, as it’s just as good as the main courses. Overall, Tony’s Di Napoli delivers great food, a fun atmosphere, and an excellent experience for groups. We’d definitely return the next time we’re in the city.
Go hungry and ready to share. A New York institution and now I see why. Family style dining, delicious chicken parm (that sauce is to die for) and great Alfredo. Are there better places in New York? Absolutely, should you go once for the experience...of course. Good service, fun atmosphere, a good place to spend a birthday with family and friends.
We have been longtime fans of Tony’s, considering it the best choice for dinner in the theater district (far better than similar restaurants like Carmine’s), which is why it is disappointing to write this review. This was our first visit in a few years, and it seems that Tony’s quality has gone downhill. The food was still good, but not GREAT like it used to be. We ordered the eggplant rollatini, chicken francese, rigatoni vodka, and meatballs. The rollatini was pretty good; the rigatoni vodka had good flavor, but the pasta was barely covered in sauce - several pieces were completely dry. The chicken was quite thick for francese and rather tough. We did let the staff know about this, and they comped our dessert, which was very kind, but the chicken quality is still worth noting. The meatballs were not very good, and we did not finish them. Almost everything we ordered was lukewarm at best as well. The tartufo we ordered for dessert was delicious and definitely the highlight of the meal, along with the delicious free Italian bread (though it was cold). As for the atmosphere, the interior is nicely decorated and classically Italian-American. However, the table we were seated at was far too close to those next to it. You can hear every bit of the conversation next to you, and it feels like you are basically sharing a meal with your neighbors. The larger booths are better, but be warned if you are dining as a small party. The service here is quite good, but still, has been better on previous visits. We have previously had wonderful experiences at Tony’s, and it has always been one of our favorite places to dine in the city. I certainly hope they improve their issues, but I just wanted to describe my recent experience for anyone looking to dine here.
We did not have to wait very long for the food to come out. But when it did come, the food was not very hot. We ordered a rigatoni a la vodka and the pasta was really overcooked and chewy, so it just tasted like hardened pasta with sauce. The portion sizes for the appetizer and the pasta (full) were sufficient for 2 people. The service was okay, we felt that the waiter kept returning too often to ask if we were done when we obviously weren't. The peach bellini was delicious.
