What an amazing meal. Husband and I are big foodies and the food here is set at a high standard. The complimentary rosemary bread came freshly baked. Recommended: —brussel sprouts salad (perfect blend of ingredients and dressing) —pork chop (omg that sauce on top and how do they make the broccoli that delicious?!), —halibut (great balance of flavors) —yuzu sour Skip: lobster app (portion is tiiiny and the sauce was heavy handed, yummy though but not worth the $24), coconut milk mocktail (unusual taste…not my favorite) Tip: go between 430-530pm on Saturday — house cocktails are 50% off! Pricey meal ($200 for the two of us) but the dishes were just fantastic and service was wonderful as well. We will be back!

I’m so delighted to give House 406 a 5 star review! Dinner was wonderful, dietary restrictions were well accommodated, sitting outside was lovely, and the inside tables looked great, too. We loved the lamb chops, lobster appetizer, salmon, vegan chocolate gelato… we loved and devoured everything. Thank you for a terrific evening and great meal! Just had another wonderful meal at House 406. Everyone is so nice. My dietary restrictions were handled perfectly with plain whitefish and kale. My mother loved her salmon with rice noodles.

What can I say about this place. Oh my god, this is my absolute favorite restaurant. I discovered this place a few years ago and since then it has been my go-to restaurant for any occasion. Birthday? House 406. Valentines Day? House 406 please!! This place offers a delicious and fresh seasonal menu, and over the years there has not been one item I disliked from the menu. The lobster crostinis are my absolute favorite and a must-have every time I come here. Tonight my boyfriend and I started scarfing down the food before I got to take a picture, but I had the short rib and brisket burger and he had the brown sugar salmon special. Everything was so tasty and cooked to perfection. On top of the delicious food, the service here is incredible. The servers are so nice and personable, all you hear from other tables is laughs and everyone is having a good time. The atmosphere is intimate and modern, and the restaurant is always clean and beautifully decorated. The owner, Jennifer, has done such a wonderful job with this place. The only thing I would recommend would be to expand this restaurant to seat more customers, because this place is definitely going to keep growing!

First time and ate outside at a tent setup due to covid, luckily there was heaters. The sever was great, sanitizer on the table, and the food was very good. We had a little room for desert, and it did not disappoint. I believe they make all their deserts there, nice change from most other places. I can't wait to try something new next time.

Great food and great service. Oysters were amazing and are on par, if not better than Pops for champagne in Chicago.

We always have an amazing meal at House 406. We started off with the Classic Margherita Pizza which was crisp and fresh. Some of the main dishes we had were the Short Rib & Brisket Burger - my son said was amazing, Seafood Risotto special - that I LOVED and the Shrimp Linguine. Their dishes are always done to perfection. The staff is knowledgeable and so friendly. Their cocktails and bourbon selections are THE BEST! If you haven't been to House 406 you are missing out!

Had the best Christmas Eve dinner at House 406. The cozy atmosphere was perfect. The food was delicious and we all had leftovers. Great service from the sweet girls who greeted us and sat us to our amazing waiter, we felt pampered and special. We are so lucky to have this gem in Northbrook!!

Liked this quite a bit. Cozy atmosphere with outdoor seating available. Heaters if a little chilly. Great food. Had some excellent fish. Awesome dessert. I went on my birthday and wasn't disappointed.

We had our company holiday dinner and my entree was the 10 oz. bone-in filet. The meat was tender and was paired with creamed spinach. When the dish was served in front of me, I forgot to take a photo but suffice it to say that the meal was unforgettable. We plan on coming back for dinner next time around.

We went here to celebrate our 10yr anniversary and had the perfect time. The dessert was the best I’ve had in my life - not even on the menu and made special for us. Thank you so much!

The food and drinks were phenomenal, along with the atmosphere. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in this establishment. Our server Scott was absolutely outstanding. There should be more of him in the world! I definitely recommend this place!

Always delicious, always something new. Scallops fantastic, bourbon flight fun. Tonight had horseradish crusted fish. Light and tasty. Started with the scallop appetizer and had a unique Brussel sprout salad with zesty dressing. Burger always reliable. Update burger sumptuous Update personal greeting, love the bread and butter

Since this was our Wedding Anniversary the hostess wished us a Happy Anniversary upon entering and it only got better from that point on. First the waiter brought over two glasses of Prosecco complements of the house for our Anniversary. We then chose the Strawberry Burrrata which so very good, the combined flavors of the strawberries with the rhubarb compote, pistachio, basil , burrata and toast was so refreshing. Next we got a glass of wine which our waiter helped us pick excellent. Barbara had the Whitefish with roasted cauliflower, broccolini & lemon cream sauce and parmesan crust.Cooked just right and the flavors intertwined magnificently. I had one of the specials for the evening; Duck breast with blueberry sauce and fresh blueberries which was simply outstanding. We finished off the evenings delights sharing a piece of Peach upside-down Cake with blueberry cake, candied pecans and argo dolce. I ask you there is no better way of celebrating this joyous occasion eating so very well with that special someone in your life.

Recently had dinner here. Great intimate spot for a first date. Atmosphere was good/was able to hold a convo. Food was solid. Appreciated the attention to fresh ingredients. Had really great cocktails but what really shined was the service. They went above and beyond and it’s something I always appreciate. Got a second date out of it so I’ll give House 406 some credit there. Def will be back again and would recommend.

Tried this place for first time and the food and experience were both top notch. Had Scott as our server and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered the burger and truffle fries. The burger was one of the best ones I have had. It was cooked perfectly to order and it was very juicy without being extremely messy as some burgers can be. Also of you are a lava cake or peanut butter/chocolate fan you need to the peanut butter lava cake.

Food was delicious, hard to find good octopus- here they know what they are doing. Cozy . Portions are not too big, but very tasty. Staff was very friendly and helphull. We had party of 8 no one was rushing us after we were done.

We love coming here! Every time we do we feel like we're family. The food is amazing, the drinks are amazing, the people are amazing. Even if we go in for just a quick bite it still feels like a special occasion every time. Can't wait to come back over and over 😍

I just finished a lovely meal with my husband at House 406. The staff was superb! Everyone was extremely friendly and pleasant. Our server, Scott, was amazing. We enjoyed the Lobster Crostini, Brisket Burger, Whitefish, and all of the sides. A very nice atmosphere and we can't wait to go back.

Between the outstanding food, creative cocktails, extensive bourbon selection and intimate setting, House 406 is my favorite restaurant on the North shore. The menu is constantly evolving and the environment is perfect for date night, dinner with friends or a nightcap at the bar (I've been there for all 3 occasions and more). I can't wait to go back!

Stellar service. Stellar food. The bartender (the Boss Lady) was really, really excellent. I had a special drink I wanted made (revolver) and she made it. Frankly, I was not to my liking which was totally my fault, so she asked me several questions and proceeded to add some other ingredients to the cocktail, and I really enjoyed it. It was a wonderful experience and I thank the Boss and her staff.

Innovative and quaint House 406 is the kind of gem every neighborhood should have. There are excellent salads, some seasonal like the grilled summer vegetables while others are traditional like the wedge. The burger is outstanding and so is the rib eye. The seafood offerings are particularly appealing. Try the halibut, it's a treat. There's a bar. Fun to hang out at, it also offers an array of terrific drinks. Try the daily special offerings on the dinner menu like an interesting interpretation of a raspberry margarita. Solid wine selection, home made desserts and attentive service complete the picture.

This is a great place for romantic or relaxed conversation. Music is generally what I would describe as soft rock or country, each table having a candle lit with clean glasses and dim lighting all around - coming in through the doors was a little disorienting as it was bright outside and comparably very dark inside until your eyes adjust. The individual greeting us at the door was very welcoming and calm, a different experience as opposed to a busy restaurant with excited staff briskly leading you to a booth or table, immediately setting a more comfortable mood and admittedly a little odd as I'm not used to such a nice entrance. The seating is comfortable and the tables a very dark oak color, the silverware heavier than it looks and smooth, making it a little difficult to handle but that might just be the way I hold a fork and knife. Our waiter was kind, professional, funny, and quick throughout our entire visit. His name was Scott, dressed and groomed for the part, a man that was comfortable to ask questions and talk with. The drink menu is large, six full pages if I recall correctly; a large assortment of wine and whiskey, as well as other alcohol. Our drinks were fantastic, both the taste and display - unique glasses depending on what you order, frozen grapes for the raspberry margarita, a few tables down the wine glasses looked pretty interesting, makes you want to order other drinks to see what they make for you. The food tasted just as good. Specifically I had the chicken: well done, mashed potatoes with a soft but slightly chunky texture, some delicious flavors both sweet and tender that come together. The desert is no less flavorful, both the creme brulee with its sweet vanilla taste and cinnamon roll pudding outdoing other restaurants making the same thing. Honestly a treat for the end of our meal. Supposedly bread is served earlier on, which would go well with the soup, but we did not have any given to us. I could be wrong with whether or not it is served with specific dishes or placed on the table regardless. I also did not receive a second drink after being offered one, which let me down a bit before I had the sweet desert. Minor issues that stuck out but didn't ruin the experience, and I would definitely give this another chance with all House 406 has to offer. Would recommend for anyone wanting to treat themselves, as not all menu options are pricey, and the drinks really complete the meals if you're okay with some that have a larger price. At first glance not a large selection of food, but within each category there is a variety that should appeal to almost everyone who might have a finicky taste like me. Planning on coming back with some close friends to show them this unique, pleasant restaurant.

What a great little gem in a strip mall. The food was so fresh and full of flavor. The shaved brussel sprout salad is very clean with just the right amount of citrus vinaigrette. The miso salmon was on point and cooked to perfection. Our server, Scott was very informative and made for a fun experience.

I had my work dinner program here last night and every one of us were blown away by the food and service! What a gem! The owner is the sweetest and her experience in the industry shows. This place could be in the city and would kill it with the food and the wine list alone. Go! Amazing place!

Northbrook / northern Chicago suburbs you have yourself a very special place here ! It’s your quaint little Michelin star restaurant nestled in a suburb. Every time I come to town - I start and finish the trip here. Food quality , food preparation, the wonderful balance of flavor, acidity, sweetness, etc. - all top of the line. My only complaint is, they haven’t opened a branch in my hometown yet.

We ordered the salmon and halibut, and both dishes were outstanding. Wines by the glass are half off on Thursdays, and carry-out bottles of wine are half-off every day of the week. Scott was our server, and he was amazingly friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection, and accommodating to our party's gluten allergy. We will definitely be back!

Wait staff is great. Pleasant to speak with in addition to the service. Bartender (owner) is top notch and helped keep everything moving. Atmosphere got 4 starts but no demerit intended. In a strip mall, nothing too special on inside but does it really matter when the food is awesome, well priced and service is great. Will go back and have anyway recommended to friends.

Near perfect ambience for date night. Food was delicious but pricey. A bit of an older crowd. Make sure to make a reservation to guarantee a table. Easy enough to make on OpenTable. I got the filet and lobster tail, my date got artic char. We plan on returning, they switch out the menu quite often.

We came in and was told the kitchen closes in 30 minutes. We said okay that is fine and was seated. Amazing service and even better food. I had the lamb chops w brussel sprouts it was amazing. My fiancé had the short rib ground brisket burger and fries omg amazing. He says it's the best burger he's ever had. When we come back in town this place will be the go to if we don't like the other options!

Here is my fully honest review. As always. Overall I very much enjoyed the experience. Service. Superb. Our waiter Mike was excellent. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Great guy. Ambiance. Great ambiance. Darkish decor with an old school charm. Can definitely get a bit loud but tolerable. Food. I started with the burrito. It was good. Could use a bit more flavor. I ordered the short rib and brisket burger. $29 with the fries. The fries were excellent. The burger was frankly way too small for the bun and the bun had a microwaved feel to it. Not fresh. Advice. Pound the meat a bit thinner to cover the bun and talk to the supplier about fresher bread. Otherwise pretty good but not at that price point. Phenomenal selection of bourbons and whiskies at reasonable prices. Overall glad I tried it.

Nice place to go for a date. Food and staff are nice. Did were right temperature, however I was surprised to find a small please of plastic in my bass. Cream brulee was spot on with a French press. I would definitely recommend this place, if you are not bothered about the price. For a dinner of two three course meal it costed us 130 with tips. We liked our fish dishes. I may try the next time beef or lamb.

Food and atmosphere were very good. The service team seemed to be under staffed and not well versed in the menu. When asked for suggestions/recommendations, the server just said everything is “great”. Really? Come on!

M

The food was delicious, but the only downside is that the portons are small, my plate was about $60, and the meat was small. It had great flavor. So if you go, don't go starving lol but it was great and very delicious. Also, while I was there, one of the tiles from the ceiling fell and hit me on my back. Other than that it's a great place to Impress your date

We’ve been here several times now and come to the conclusion that the food is just ok. The service has always been very attentive through, which we appreciate. The drink menu is interesting and the bar is always packed. For us I think this is becoming more of a drinks and apps spot.

A
Aurora Surdu

Food and drink menu is limited and pricey. We asked for a cosmopolitan and a martini (neither was on the meniu). Neither packed any punch. We are light drinkers and felt nothing after those drinks. I am pretty sure my Cosmo came from a ready mix The desert, lava cake was dry and burned on the outside edges. The main course white fish and halibut was good tasting but very small portioned and no sides. Not rushing back any time soon.

We’ve been loyal customers at this Northbrook restaurant since it opened—dining here nearly every week for over a decade. Sadly, after our last visit, we won’t be returning. We arrived around 7:00 PM and were seated promptly, but that’s where the good service ended. It took 15 minutes for anyone to take our order, and another 20 minutes for drinks to arrive. After that, we were completely ignored for over an hour—no one stopped by to check on us, refill water, or offer the usual bread and butter. When we finally flagged someone down at 8:20 PM (an hour after ordering), the server seemed irritated by our question and brushed off our request for bread. No apology, no explanation. Our food—just salads—arrived at 8:30 PM with no acknowledgment from the server, just plates dropped silently on the table. Even more disappointing was that the Jennifer-the owner was there, move liquor bottles at the bar-clearly aware of what was happening—and did absolutely nothing. No greeting, no apology, no attempt to make things right. For years, the staff knew us so well that we barely had to order—they’d simply ask, “Having the usual tonight?” That kind of personal service is what made this place special. Unfortunately, this visit was a complete 180. We’ve seen the service decline gradually, but this last experience was the final drop in the bucket. Let’s talk about pricing: appetizers are now well into the double digits, and entrées range from $50–$80. And that’s fine—if the experience, atmosphere, and service live up to it. But when the staff is disengaged, the owner is indifferent, and the décor hasn’t been updated in over a decade (sagging chairs, scratched tables, and a tired feel), it simply doesn’t add up. Over the past 10 years, we’ve watched the prices rise by 50%—and still, we never complained. We always left a generous tip and tried to support the business however we could. As residents of Northbrook for over 40 years, we’ve always made a point to support local establishments. But sadly, we’ll be taking our business elsewhere—somewhere that still values its customers and remembers that hospitality matters.

Food made me sick I was throwing up all day and night after coming here the bread had mold on it my pasta mushrooms inside tasted like they were old and sour. Do not recommend. Food poisoning and my mom paid 100 dollars for our meal. The food had no flavor I feel like my food was reheated
