Alma Oakland Reviews
Smaller restaurant with excellently tasting and dressed tacos, only $4 per taco!! The value for the amount of protein on these is exceptional. Food was quick to be served, presented beautifully, and was very satisfying. My personal favorite in order would probably be: Carne Asada, Pescado (these were both great and could go either way for first), the carnitas (these carnitas felt more slow cooked in a pot vs baked/fried, they were very tender and good but my personal preference is carnitas with some hard baking/frying to add some crispness to the exterior), and the Tinga. I would visit here again, especially if value for food is a high priority
great tacos! we came here because it was the only place open late near the fox theater and we wanted tacos, we were surprised by how good the food was! will definitely be back
Absolutely delicious and authentic Mexican food. The people who work here are genuinely friendly, and it's easy to see (and taste) their effort in making incredible food. This is a new and growing business, so some amenities are constantly being worked on; but what they have definitely mastered is their carefully constructed dishes. The prices are very cheap, and I'd dare to say they have the best prices in the area. Please come support this business, and bring a friend or two.
Thad a fantastic experience at Alma Bar Cocina in Oakland. Their tacos are packed with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the service is consistently warm and welcoming. The owner makes you feel like a regular. Definitely try the fish tacos and the soup both were incredibly flavorful!
Walked into this neat looking taqueria late night on First Friday and had some great tacos. The quesadilla was definitely a favorite of mine, and their carnitas had really good flavor. Come give this brand new restaurant a try!
Pretty good quesabirria and chicken enchiladas. Overall, this taqueria is a good mix of quality and value when compared to the taco truck and La Bonita that are nearby. Would come back to try their other items.
I was really impressed. Food is incredible, better than a lot of the other brick and mortar ~more elevated~ Mexican places around here and without the pomp. Only Alma Mexicana and Tacos la San Marqueña from here on out for me. Go to bar 355 for a few drinks then head here.
Incredibly delicious and fast service for incredible price. New favorite place to grab a bite.
Ordered online. Went to pick it up and bring it back to the office. The carne asada plate is really good. Good flavor.

Best tacos and margarita in Oakland. Hidden gem. Fantastic staff and chefs. Try the chicken and the ceviche.
Great food, wonderfully seasoned. The pickled onions that are served as a garnish are incredible. I must have more!
This place is absolutely delicious and is some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in the Bay. It is a family owned resturant with authentic, well-crafted food. We had the super burrito, fish and soyrizo tacos and they were all amazing! It’s great there are a both meat and veggie options too. The margaritas were great and it all came in at a very affordable price. We will be regulars here now.
My fiancé and I stopped by here on a whim before a show at the Fox earlier tonight. Hooooly cow the tacos we got were SO good. He got carnitas, I got chorizo and chicken tinga. Omggggggg!!!! Chorizo was fabulous, not too greasy, and spicy. The chicken tinga was super savory and juicy. The green salsa we both had was SO good - fresh and acidic. And don’t get me started on the corn tortillas - so good. The guy who rang us up was super nice, horchata was gas, music was vibey. Food was amazing AND well priced. Please consider stopping by if you’re in the mood for some tasty tacos.
Nice little spot! Come here to eat before a show and was pleasantly surprised by the food. I had a Chile relleno plate and my wife had tacos and we both liked our food a lot. Interior is very basic, but the food is great and the people were friendly.
I eat a lot of tacos and these are truly fantastic. My favorite part is how moist the meat was, because I find about half the time the meat in street style tacos is a little dry. Not to mention they’re only $4 and the portions are large enough to split each taco into two - a steal in the Bay Area. The guys behind the counter are super friendly and the atmosphere feels quite a bit like a place you’d go to in Baja, with a little bit more style.
I went with the taco salad and added shrimp for extra protein. Every bite was packed with flavor, and all the ingredients complemented each other perfectly.
Delicious food and very friendly staff. They're fairly new and can tell they're still working on decorating the inside, when i went there were only a couple tables and an area by the entrance with stools but don't let that discourage you from supporting the business. The food was really really good, I came here about a month ago with family after having to leave a restaurant that was closing before everyone got to arrive. I guess we were meant to try this restaurant and I'm actually glad we ate here instead! Prices were very fair and the portions were good too. I got the red enchiladas and they were amazing. The horchata was really good too.

I had some time to kill in Oakland and was looking for a quick bite. This came up on my search for taquerias nearby. I had a super vegi burrito bowl and couldn't have been more pleased! Everything was super fresh, and the vegis had lots of crunch. The beans were absolutely terrific! The young woman taking orders was new and a little unfamiliar with the input, but it was not a big deal at all. I will definitely be going back to eat my way through the menu!

I got the Un Plato with chicken tinga, and the food was decent.

The food was over priced. $17 for a burrito. The rice was dry so naturally I wanted some salsa to help with that, but they were 50 cents for a tiny serving. There was also an over powering amount of cilantro in the burrito. Would not recommend!

I’m not understanding the positive reviews. Maybe we caught them on an off day (it was mid-day on Saturday and the restaurant was nearly empty) - but this was not good. The food was not fresh, hot, tasty, or made with good quality ingredients. We had the carne asada plate and the chilaquiles and were disappointed. Two stars for friendly staff and reasonable prices. Otherwise, would not return.
