Otaez Oakland Reviews
My husband and I were in the neighborhood this morning and needed a place to eat at and they were already open early morning so we went here after going to Pena Bakery. I love the whole atmosphere of the restaurant and the table service is wonderful. We were seated right away and served chips with two kinds of salsas. Our order was taken promptly and the food came out quick. I really enjoyed their burrito and liked the fact I was able to get grilled chicken instead of carne asada. Its in a nice neighborhood in Oakland too worth checking out.
Warm, thin, crispy chips and excellent salsa. Friendly staff. Delicious margs and nachos!

The colorful chairs and tables are very beautiful as they depict scenes of mexican folklore in rich tones. I also gotta say that the molcajete salsa they serve with their chips is really the best. It is tangy, spicy but not too much, just very tasty.
Had a wonderful and delicious breakfast for two. Would definitely recommend. Everyone was very friendly and service was great. Thank you!
Their food is actually pretty amazing. I was reading the reviews and part of me wasn't sure what I would be getting but I'm very happy with the outcome. Enchilada plate was bomb and the strawberry margarita was delicious! Absolutely loved it!
This is our fave go to breakfast Mexican restaurant. The Huevos Rancheros are superb, and the ambience is very colorful. If you're luck, a wandering Mariachi singer might drop by and serenade. Update, July, 2025, recently had breakfast here again, and, as always, a superb experience. Really good food!!!
Absolutely delicious! Otaez provided takeout catering for a party for 35. They took care to provide exactly what I asked for and everyone loved the food (fortunately there was a little leftover for me to take home to the family!). Everything was fresh, packaged with care and the prices reasonable. Highly recommend ordering from Soccoro and her team.
This is my house yo Mexican food restaurant. Consistently good food. Their prices have gone up which is understandable, but went higher in short periods of time.. Their chili rellenos are one of the best.

Great food, superb customer service, a full bar, and affordable pricing! The owner accommodated an area just for our family & friends to celebrate my niece's graduation (who by the way got a full scholarship to U.C. Davis). Can't thank you enough Otaez!!

They tried their best! I love the caguamas ( biig beer) and the bucket of beers! ( just like real Mexican restaurant) the food is okay! Tacos are great but not the best ones in town for sure...oh the staff is really nice!
Good casual place, salsa is nice and spicy 😊 Service is a bit slow but we r here at Dia de Los Muertos

Really delicious family style Mexican restaurant with a bar. I got the dinner combo and a margarita. I eat at a lot of taquerias and I was really satisfied. I recommend this as a very approachable choice in the area.
Full of sauce almost spilled out of the plate lol horrible customer service but food was delicious

Hours listed are incorrect. I attempted to order takeout over the phone and the phone just kept ringing. I was down the street so I walked to the location to find the door locked but I could see other customers inside dining. An employee came to the door and told me they were closed. There was no sign on the door or any hour change on Google to reflect they had changed their hours. I have eaten here before and the food is great but the service could be better.
Tried this place for the first time. It was recommended by a local business owner. Anna was very attentive. Upon entering there are tables and you can sit wherever. A server will bring you a menu to order. You might have to ask them to wipe the table down. The menus need to be wiped down as well. There is hand sanitizer on every table. The walls need to be cleaned really good. The bathroom was very clean. I ordered a full taco order. Comes with two tacos , beans and rice. I was told the beans will be refried but it was a mixture of refried and whole beans. The tacos were ok. They were dry so I asked for some green sauce and sour cream. I also ordered a guava margarita. It was OK it tasted like it was previously mixed. It didn’t taste fresh at all. After finishing the drink I noticed there was food on my cup from being half washed. Overall, I’m glad I gave them a try to cross them off my list.
We used to come every week but the food changed. Maybe I’ll try once more

My family had a pretty good time. The server was really nice. The food that I got though was not. I ordered a sea food plate and the first order came out extremely salty that I wasn't able to eat it. The server was nice and took the plate, when the second plate came out, I asked for a to go box but when I got home it tasted spoiled, the fish, shrimp all of it. Not a good experience
I went in before work to get some fish and shrimp soup for my lunch and they got it wrong. I was in a hurry and did not think to check my order before I left because I specifically asked for fish AND shrimp soup. I paid $17 for some broth, 3 shrimps, few carrots, some squash, 1 very hard piece of potato and lots of cabbage. I was very disappointed. I was very looking forward to my soup because I had a sore throat. This isn't the first time they've let me down, which is why I gave 2 stars.

Do not recommend this place at all, which is sad bc we used to like it here. We forgot to take a pic of a plate of pozole that was also ordered. It was too hot, watered down, and no taste. The burrito was asada and the meat was hard and not good, like it was meat that had sat there all day. The torta had too much of refried beans but was ok besides that. The enchiladas were covered in green sauce that looked good but wasn't- it seemed watered down and I had to add the table salsa to give it flavor. Flautas were ok but a little burnt. The only tasty thing was the salsa they gave with the tortilla chips. We ordered them because they are not complimentary anymore and one has to ask for them. The very worst part was the gratuity fee added to the bill. We always tip when going to a restaurant, but to be told what we have to tip is wrong especially if the wait staff isn't really waiting on you except for when they take the order and bring the food out. She came once after serving and seemed more interested in the noisy patrons at the other end of the restaurant, who were acting like it was a bar with all the yelling and drinking they were doing. When I asked about the fee, she said the owner said to add to tables of 6 or more. We were 6 with no children. I called Alameda Co. Commissioner ofc and was told restaurants are not supposed to put how much tip one should have to pay, but may suggest how much. This was not a suggestion at Otaez and I have my receipt to prove it. Will never suggest anyone to go to this establishment.
Worst food in Oakland! I ordered a wet burrito and the meat was burnt and hard to chew. It was full of fat trimmings. My girlfriend ordered chili verde and half of it was cold. It’s pork and if it’s not heated right you can get really sick. Don’t waste your time or money.

They burned the carne asada plate got to be the worst and most expensive food I paid for
I ordered chicken soup, chicken torta, and a bean and cheese burrito. Man don't even waste your time. The food has no flavor at all. The chicken was dry and had absolutely no seasoning smh the mayonnaise had more flavor then the meal, the soup broth was spicy but the chicken bland had no flavor at all they could have used some chicken bouillon smfh. The bean and cheese burrito was meh no flavor at all, and the fries were trash. All in all sometimes it's best to just make your own food, or definitely check the reviews which we didn't cause we were starving. Lesson learned.
