Yang Chow Restaurant Oakland Reviews
Had a delicious dinner here last Saturday. We ordered spinach in garlic sauce and beef with tomato. Both yummy. Portions large and we took plenty home. Parking can be a little difficult but if you're willing to walk a few minutes, it's not a problem. Great for a bite before a movie at the Grand Lake movie theatre.
Love this place small buffet inside on Monday they have egg foo young it's so delicious. My Friend tried the crab here where you pick the crab you want and she said it was not cooked properly because it was slimy. I'm allergic so I steer clear from that stuff now. They have great garlic noodles tho (not apart of the buffet) me and my family used to eat here every Monday
My friends and I ordered takeout. All the dishes we got were delicious and the portions were plentiful. I especially appreciated that the Mongolian beef I ordered featured beef first and foremost -- frequently Mongolian beef dishes are mostly onions and sauce with a few morsels of beef.
One of the best tasting Chinese food experiences I've had. I've been eating here for 10 years. I recommend the salt and pepper fish for you seafood lovers and the crab Rangoon. Every dish I've had is simply delicious! If your looking for fresh tasting vegetables seek no more. Yang chows steamed vegetables are great if you're a vegetarian. Yum!
The food was great, especially the asparagus beef. The food was also prepared quickly as my family waited and everyone was happy with their food. I've ordered from them 4x and it's been great each time.
This restaurant was new to me, craving Chinese, I went to my favorite and it was closed for remodeling which lead me to Yang Chow. I literally walked into Trader Joe's and there was a group of people also entering and I said, I am not from around here but craving Chinese if while we are shopping and you have a local favorite please tell me in passing.. two people suggested. I ordered a Peaking Duck but no luck for duck, so I ordered salt n peppered ribs, BBQ pork fried rice and Chick Chow Mein. I brought it to my friends house who said it is now their favorite BBQ pork fried rice. I will say this was great and the portions were not skimpy. I am actually going back today
I first came here like 10years ago. It was one of my favorite spots. Cheaper than a lot of the places in the area. Food was always great, server was a older guy who was so nice and sweet. They now have a $8 buffet that's really good. I love coming here and getting the buffet. So worth it. The people are nice and are quick to get you anything you need.
My absolute favorite place to eat Asian food! Prices have gone up, but it is still reasonable. Great service, fresh veggies and a nice variety. In the beautiful Lakeshore neighborhood, the farmers market on Saturday's and lots of things to explore.
I started craving a bunch of Chinese food after I saw a bunch of British tik tokers ordering food. This restaurant doesn’t have “britishized” Chinese food but it definitely fulfilled the craving and won’t break the bank! I def reccommend the fried rice & ofc the honey walnut shrimp!
I am so happy with my shrimp fried rice. It is so delicious and good size for price. I was hungry but now I'm satisfied.
Super cozy setting and ambience lighting for dinner! I ordered the escargot, the white sauce fettuccini, the marinere mussels and their mousse at chocolat, and it all tasted amazing. What was one of the best things was that you also got to see the chefs cook behind the bar, and our host was super friendly and nice. There was a long line on Saturday night but our host seated us at the bar as fast as he could. I would definitely come back again!
Good food, tasty, long standing in the community. However, if you get lemon chicken, get the sauce on the side. They warned me it would be soggy, if it were added; I didn't know... everything else was perfect. I love the vegetable fried rice; remember to ask for brown rice, if you prefer.
Omg!! I have been patronizing this restaurant for a min. The rice is fresh and taste hella good.Try it 1st!! Please do not use any soy sauce. The chicken was seasoned well and perfectly breaded. Your food literally is fresh out the wok. It took me 20min to get settled at home. My food was still really hot😋Ain't nothing like having a. craving and it hit the spot. Y'all already know, im going back. Just wanted to put ya'll on💯Thank me later😁😋
Great food & RIDICULOUS portions. Yang Chow rice, salt & pepper dried fried ribs (no fat), garlic noodles & veggie rolls. All very delish! The portions were unbelievable! Very inexpensive!

The people who work there are nice and the food is delicious!!! They deserve 10 stars!!! They are still take-out and delivery only, with no dine-in. This place is reasonably priced and my family keeps coming back here time and time again. Delivery is quick and affordable by ordering directly through the restaurant. They prepare the food very fast. Ample street parking is available. Family-owned business. Friendly staff. Very clean and hygienic. No doubt the best place around.
Yang chow is the best place to get a wonton soup. The salt and pepper fried ribs with jalapenos are fire 🔥
The salt & pepper ribs are soo good. 🔥
Every time I order from here the food is hot fire! You can distinctly taste each flavor as they come together in the most delicious symphony!
It's mainly a take out place and the food is delicious.
Was passing through on my way to Seattle from Orange County. Absolutely most random stop ever. The wonton soup was epic. We took some other stuff to go for the road too. Best we’ve ever had.

I got the salt n pepper shrimp over garlic noodles. It was decent. My Friend introduced me to this place. I'm picky about Asian food period. Being raised in San Francisco during the late 60's to 80's taught me everything I needed to know about this cuisine 🙂
I always have a great experience at this place. Kind of small and dated Decor but overall great menu especially the seafood items. Delivery is fast fast and fresh. Staff is always nice and friendly. In a great area near the lake can't go wrong here.
I want to give them a 5 star because I have been a customer for over 15 years. However, there's always that ONE person that answers the phone that makes ordering a horrible experience. It takes me about 3 months to order again because they make the experience miserable. Other than that GREAT FOOD! Delivery guys are always nice.
Opens at 11:00 a.m. there's no inside dining . And parking is a problem between 11 :a.m. - 2:p.m. The food is delicious and the cashier is always ready to take orders. She's very friendly and helpful to customers.
Affordable. Attentive service. I ordered the veggie pork with spinach. The pork reminded me of the mock duck that you buy in a can. The spinach was very flavorful in a slightly sweet barbecue sauce. The preparation seemed authentic.
Yang Chow in Oakland might not catch your eye at first glance—it’s a small, older spot. But trust me, the Chinese food scene here often surprises. While I’m not claiming it’s the best, the fried rice was enjoyable, and the portion sizes were generous, easily enough for two. Service could improve, but the prices are reasonable. Overall, it was a decent experience—nothing spectacular, but satisfying

Usually pretty good - chow menu was good. The fried prawns not so good. They were breaded and the taste was horrible.
Food is great, but it’s take out only now.
I did not like the food. I ordered chicken and something else. I can't remember what the other orders was. But I did not care for this restaurant at all. I love chinese food. The quality was not good at all. My chicken was super dry. Not the place for me.

Have no idea why this place is rated to highly. To go order of lemon chicken; they did not separate the sauce from the chicken and it was a soggy, goopy mess. Asparagus, cream and corn: they used canned creamed corn! The "spicy" chicken was served separately from the sauce so at least it was still crunchy but the sauce was not spicy at all, kinda sweet actually.
Unfortunately, this place is very bad. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and garlic eggplant. The eggplant was super greasy and some pieces undercooked. The sweet sour chicken was a mushy mess with comically red food coloring added. Disappointing.
Hello. I have ordered from this restaurant before: dine in, takeout and deliver before the pandemic. No problems with food or service. Today, however, I walked to Yang Chow to place an order and a young lady inside the restaurant told me to call in my order using the number on the outside table. Just as I was about to do so, I asked her if I could take my order with me or were they going to deliver (Grubhub/Uber/ the order to my house??? She gave me a funny look like that was the plan!! I asked again if I could take my order with me, and she again looked weird. I thanked her and took my bu$ine$$ elsewhere. They permanently lost this customer today.
Disappointing first visit. I came in hoping to order a simple combo plate with rice, chow mein, and a few entrees — but they didn’t offer anything like that. The person at the counter wasn’t helpful and didn’t try to suggest any alternatives or nearby locations. It felt like they had no interest in earning my business. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.
I ordered dried fried ribs. Seems as though they been refried and sold . Super crunchy. Super oily. And much too "Dry"

I have visited Yang Chow (Oakland_Grand Avenue) this place 3 times, and each time I have had to return the food each time. First let me say that I don't mind spending money on good food, but this place is Horrible!!!!. I spent $28 on food that was not meant to be eaten. I ordered chicken won ton soup. They put over cooked chicken breast in the soup with little soup and 15 won tons. I also ordered shrimp fried rice. The rice was overcooked and gummy with 4 shrimp. I ordered broccoli beef, which was all broccoli and no beef. The worse was the staff. They are rude and unfriendly, plus they have guys sitting around on their phones. Security?? Not sure. This was the most expensive Chinese food, but also the nastiest I have Ever eaten. If I could give them a minus in every area I would. This was food ordered in the place and picked up. Do not waste your time or money. I went to a less expensive place called Big Daddy's Chinese food. I had no expectation, but was satisfied with my food. This place was not like Yang Chow (Oakland) with the tables, but I did not have to return my food or complain. The food was reasonable. I don't usually write review s, but this place warranted s Review. Hoping people read and take notice. No comment on other foods, but what I ordered was garbage!!!!!
Very disappointing. I asked the front desk employee if she could recommend any flavor of chicken and she couldn’t. I went for the pineapple sweet and sour chicken and it did not taste good. There was more fried dough than chicken. I do not believe I will return and cannot on good conscious recommend this place to anyone
Disappointed for a variety of reasons. The side of sweet and sour seemed to be watered down, the fried food was soggy, and when reheated it went straight to the trash. Also, I tried to order online and I was sent to a not so legit site...i called in to order instead. The lady who took the order was "brusque". Customer service was not a strong suit. Will not return.
The garlic spicy chicken was so gross. The chicken was so desiccated I could hardly bite through it. And the sauce is just sugar, starch and dye.
I recently purchased some food from the Yang Chow , curry chicken, shrimp fried rice,I was very disappointed with what I got. I have never had chicken so tuff, and chewy, I could not eat it, and you would also expect more than 6 large prawns to be in a rice dish!! I would not recommend!
This is probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had. A complete waste of $50.00. The noodles in the chow mien were so thick, greasy and disgusting. Chow mein has a ton carrots and zucchini? There are more carrots in the Mongolian beef than beef. Crab wontons tasted like rotten crab and rotten ricotta cheese. Nothing was edible and it all went in the garbage. Not sure why this place has so many good reviews.
Called in as a new customer, and some rude guy over the phone says he can't serve us? I ask him why and he says he doesn't know but that the phone number matches a customer who he can't serve? Are they serious? I have never ordered from these people in my life, and I guess it's safe to say I never will. Probably good for me though because the place looks nasty on the outside anyway,I just had a desperate moment for some Chinese cuisine. Guess the universe blocked this one!
Very bad. Everything was gross.
Our order had an order of sautéed vegetables and brown rice. Instead we were disappointed to find we were sent garlic bok Choy instead. Not even with the brown rice. Imagine the disappointment from waiting for your dinner to receive… garlic bok Choy…
I am disabled now, and I have alway's patronized this restaurant over many year's so as on today I called in a order for delivery only to go back and forth with a gentlemen on the phone who stated to be the owner about delivering to my address which he tried to state to me that they would notify me after they arrive to come to the car and get my order which was fine, but I asked could they pull in the driveway so that my daughter could pick it up and contact me, he goes in to state that there is only a main gate here with no driveway and that he has been here before so I believe he was looking at google map's or should have been to aide him with his poor customer service skill's then he just rudely states call doordash or someone because no one is coming for delivery, just plain rude. Now I will gladly go patronize another restaurant and follow up with another review after I make a personal appearance thank you.
How disappointing! I have been a loyal customer to Yang Chow Restaurant for years. I ordered Chicken Chow Mein today, but to my surprise, I simply received burnt noodles and chicken. It had a terrible flavor and was awful. They refused to give me a refund when I called them to request one and instead wanted me to make the long drive back to the restaurant. If you’re ordering from this restaurant, do it at your own discretion. Food quality and customer time are not important to them.
I'm so sorry. I don't mean to be rude, but this food is consistently terrible. It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review, but the chicken is so dry I'm about to choke. It tastes like I had it for leftovers and the microwave overcooked it.

Had allergic reaction to one of the foods told them I’m allergic to shell fish and yet contaminated with shrimp 🍤
I was i town visiting from LA and I thought I would atip by a familar spot. I was sorely disappointed. The prices of the food have risen, but the quality of the food has dropped dramatically. Plus the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I'll take my dollars elsewhere.
Horrendous experience. They said food would be ready by 7pm. I didn’t get my food until after 8:30 pm. DON’T GO THERE. They didn’t even bother to apologize.
