Howard Station Cafe Occidental Reviews
So, so delicious! We visited both days of our trip and ordered different menu items each time. The food was absolutely amazing! We highly recommend this cafe.
Pleasantly surprised with how fresh and delicious everything was. Came here as a family while staying in bodega bay and the service was quick and food was delicious with generous portion sizes. Had the salmon Benedict which was delicious and the potatoes were well seasoned. Coffee was also fantastic.
Had to take a couple of rams up to Filbert Nutcracker's sheep ranch the DoubleEweBar (ŪŪ) up in Fort Ross, and took the long way home just so I could stop at the Howard Station Café in Occidental, and snag what is perhaps the best salmon burger ever! But...get it on sourdough with avocado to make it even more decadent. Pilgrim....It's worthy of a two hour drive! 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆
Great place for breakfast and patio is doggie friendly. Delicious big plates! I had huevos rancheros and hubby had salmon florentine omelette. He said it was the best breakfast he’s had in a long time. Along with the mimosas, pomegranate and orange, we agreed we will be going back soon. I do recommend! Also they have a side window for ordering from their juice bar.
Great little cafe in downtown Occidental. We LOVED the egg sandwich that came with a good amount of delicious bacon and a potato patty. Their cappuccino was delicious and made just right (put 2 shots of espresso in) but relatively small. Pastries were made elsewhere but very good. We were tempted most days to pick on up. The wild caught salmon burger was excellent. The bread used on all burgers and sandwiches were yummy bakery quality.
Absolutely one of the best cafes EVER! the atmosphere is casual and calming, the staff are pleasant and extremely hospitable, the food is wonderfully prepared, and I am so glad for all the options of gluten-free, locally-sourced, vegetarian, vegan, etc. I used to run my own café in San Francisco and I aspired to have a place like this. I am grateful that Howard Station Cafe exists and I urge everyone to support this business generously.
We recently visited Howard Station Cafe for a family breakfast and were thoroughly impressed. The warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a delightful experience from the moment we walked in. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The menu offered a fantastic variety of options, catering to adult and children's tastes. Our meals were delicious and presented beautifully, showcasing the care and quality put into each dish. The ingredients tasted fresh and were expertly prepared, delighting each bite. The meal in the photo features a classic breakfast setup that appears delicious and well-prepared. On the plate closest to the foreground are two fluffy pancakes, with the top pancake generously topped with a blackberry compote or jam, providing a vibrant contrast to the golden-brown pancakes. The jam's rich, dark color suggests it's made from fresh or possibly stewed berries, which are likely to add a sweet and slightly tart flavor to the pancakes. A small container of maple syrup accompanies the pancakes. A single-serve butter packet is also present, ready to be spread on the warm pancakes to add a creamy, melted richness.
Stopped in for breakfast while touring Occidental and some old grove redwoods. The food was great!! In addition to perfect omelets, the blueberry pancakes were delicious HOWEVER, then we saw the Pumpkin Waffle !! Had to add that. If you are around while they still serve it (this was Oct weekend just before Halloween) definitely get it! Just remember to bring a BIG appetite. The food portions are very healthy and the staff wonderful.
Delicious food. I stuffed my face. Got the custom Omelette. You can add a variety of things - mushrooms, spinach, a bunch of types of cheeses, you name it. Smoothie was fresh. Came here after zip lining in the redwoods. Gets packed and a bit cramped around brunch/lunch on weekends. Cozy old town homey feel and good service. :)
Came here in a party of 4. I had been here years ago and was afraid, as most would be, that the quality would have changed or my expectations would exceed the reality. I was not dissippointed. The busy Sunday rush was real but they still managed to provide great service and excellent food. Space is tight but it didn't really bother us, it was worth it. - Service was great. We had a very experienced server who took care of our unique dietary needs and made sure we had all we needed. We felt very welcomed and cozy despite the close proximity of tables. - Price was amazingly reasonable! I got a custom omellete and that was the most expensive at about $14. Most things are below that with great portions. Good prices. - Atmosphere is packed but cozy. Considering the kind of traffic they get I dont blame them for putting all the tables they can fit. However if you want a window or spacious seat you'll need to wait longer. - Food was AWESOME! They have found a way to combine the classic comfort foods of eggs, pancakes, sausage and homemade biscuits with the dietary needs of many people around Sonoma County. - Drinks were good. We didnt really try much except tea but they had a long list of beautiful alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks plus smoothies! Great for hangovers or something generally healthy. Ultimately a great spot and somewhere I hadnt been in years. Glad I went and I suggest you go too.
We ordered at the counter and sat on the lovely front patio. Food came out quickly; servers were friendly and attentive. Generous portions for the salmon burger with side salad and Chicken Cesar salad with organic romaine. Food was good; my salmon burger was better with the ranch side that came with my salad. A little more dressing would have been great. Overall, good Friday lunch mid-August. Sign says cash only for a few weeks.
I really want to give the new owners a chance. Unfortunately after three disappointing meals, I don’t think I’ll be back. Although the table service is a nice touch, the quality of the food is sorely lacking and does not come near to the lively pre-pandemic quality we once knew. The salmon omelette was very oily and fishy and was smothered in onions. The Chinese chicken salad came dripping wet from being recently washed but not dried. The dressing had no flavor whatsoever. The eggs and cornbeef hash were beyond diner greasy. The new owner needs to focus on getting the kitchen back to where freshness, flavor and healthfulness are back on the menu.
We didn’t dine in, only got pastries and coffee. I’m going to say some harsh words not because I want to drag them through the mud, but because I think changing the way owners operate the coffee bar can really make a difference, especially with the other breakfast bar in town. I used to stop at this place sometimes in the morning for a few years before Covid and had good memories. First, the pastries look unappetizing, and, unfortunately, the taste matches the look. I don’t care if they’re Sysco slop or local creation, you should do better. Second, customer in front of us ordered a latte or something like that and it paralyzed the barista for 5 minutes. Took another 5 minutes to get us our order. Understandable, if the place is full, but at least half of the tables were unoccupied. I thought it’s really hard to screw up two black coffees to go and two cookies, but you did it. Cookies went into the trash because they were inedible and most of the coffee followed because we didn’t have time to finish it.
I was expecting much more based on the reviews. I won't be back. Came here for the benedict, but the hollandaise sauce was terrible. I scraped it all off and just ate the eggs and ham. It was made from powder and weirdly acidic. Eggs were well-cooked and potatoes were good. Biscuits and gravy was meh. Biscuits seemed like they were made in-house, but then frozen, so they were kinda hard. Barely any sausage in the gravy. My friend had the waffle, which was okay, but didn't like the canned peaches.
As a driver I stop at different places often. On this occasion I stopped in to see if I was able to use the restroom in-between my deliveries. Usually if I like a place and the atmosphere I come back at another time. I was denied usage of the restroom and was directed to a filthy port o potty. As if they have issues with vagabonds using their restrooms all the time way out there in Occidental. Unbelievable.
