Cool little spot. Was driving by and spotted it. Cool little local hangout.
Long time rocker spot, great legacy, they are veritable library of booze with some wild curation. Close to Marine depot Redwood city, Stanford, SF, Silicon Valley and SFX is 2feet away. Food ends at 2200 most nights, pool table, and indoor outdoor tiki vibe with generous big screens St James.delivers
Had a great time. Chose the Angus sliders from the pub menu and they were served with a generous helping of fries. Really good band had us up and dancing. Really hated it when later that evening the band gig was over. But all good things come to a end. We'll be back👍💯🍹🎉🍀🍾
This place is one of the best places that has great live music events in a Tiki atmosphere. The bar can make just about anything you desire 😁. The food here is delicious, especially the hamburgers😙🤌🏼. So come on down for good times and great food. Oh and the patio is awesome, continuing with the Tiki atmosphere.
This place is super fun to visit, especially when they have their live music. Delicious drinks and the decor is a neurodivergents dream. SO much to look at. Love it.
I've driven by this place a few times, and it's always pretty packed, and parking can be hard. I really wanted to try the bacon wrapped tater tots. I decided to place an order to go. I placed my order over the phone. The gentleman was super nice. Upon arriving, parking wasn't too bad at that time. Inside, it was pretty packed but had an inviting vibe. The guy at the bar was the one who actually took my order. Super nice guy. I ordered: 1. Bacon wrapped tater tots - It tasted pretty good. Simple, something you can make at home, but it hit the spot. 2. Sliders - A little greasy then I'd want, but I'm sure if you're eating it while drinking, it hits the spot
This Irish bar is named after street address of Guinness factory in Dublin, Ireland.🇮🇪 St. James Gate, is a popular pub known for its cozy atmosphere and diverse drink selection. It often attracts locals and visitors looking for a relaxed place to enjoy drinks and socialize. They have one of best St Patty's party and Halloween party.
Oh men that’s the place to have a beer and snack some appetizers either friends. They always have a live band. Really good music. Most of the time they charge for band couver. You can play pool and darts. Price is ok you will pay around 9$ for draft beer, $7 bottle beer. Parking is kind of tricky, there’s a parking in front for the companies, but those companies will be closed at night. Don’t drink and drive, police in San Carlos and San Mateo county don’t play! They will bring you to the Redwood jail easily!!!
I had no idea about this place having stayed so close to this place for about a year and a half. I regret not going here before. This place has amazing vibes. I love classic rock and got to witness a really nice band perform here the day I visited. I like the backyard section of this place too. It was cozy next to the fire pit. They have a great collection of drinks as well. :) I particularly loved their Brussels sprouts. Kinda perfect for a first date.
Cover charge was a turn off but it was made up for by the rapid service of our food and drinks which were shot at us immediately. Great professional staff. Clean set up and professional attitudes from the tenders here. Appears small inside from the street but it opens up with a large patio after the interior impresses with the vast collection of booze overhead. Highly recommend this place!
What an awesome place to hang.. grab a cold beer..eat some great food..listen to HI NRG rock out...and have good conversation with the bartender Leon, Phil at the door, and the owner Doug! The shrimp tacos we're HUGE and absolutely dynamite! Music inside after they finish on the patio..food until 11.. and a great front porch to chill and have conversation. I'll be back every time 😎
Cool and cozy bar. It is a combination of tika bar and Irish bar with a lot of drink and food options. They have live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Nothing like getting an address and told to be there at a certain time for a birthday party. Say less. The outside is an omg where am I. Once you walk in the low dim lights of the bar welcome and the dance floor. There is a pool table and darts. Dont forget the outside bar that is tikiesc. The patrons are mixed locals and passerby. The food was hot and miss but I just kept the fries coming for the group. No real compliants other than some creepers on the prowl.
I went to St. James Gate over the weekend. My wife and I was invited to a B-day Party. The areas with the furniture are nice to sit in and socialize. The areas are decorated in a tiki theme with seating for about 6 - 8 comfortably around a table that is equipped with a heating element in the middle. There are also heaters above tbe tables. There are Big Screen TV's in these areas. There is a live band that plays, and there is dancing to compliment the drinking you will be doing. The dance floor is separate and doesnt bother the tables and areas that surround the bar, and there is plenty of bar space. There is al a pool table for you pool sharks. I forgot his name, but we had a young Hispanic guy which was a very wonderful host - even as the night progressed. We were with a Party of 15 and he was very attentive making sure we were okay! Parking is no problem since St. James is located in an industrial area with a lot across the street or street parking. My advice is to come before 7 p.m. if you want to avoid the door fee - but its not that much. All in all, Laid back atmosphere. Wonderful and pleasant experience...places like these are increasingly hard to find in the Bay Area. I would reccommend for any night its open.
St. James Gate is a super unique dive bar with a tiki bar twist, offering a fun and casual atmosphere with plenty of themed seating areas to explore. The layout is really cool—some of the tiki seating is open-air, which makes for a refreshing experience, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind when it’s raining (as we unfortunately found out the hard way). They have a great dance floor with live music, a well-stocked bar, and even a pool table, which adds to the entertainment. We grabbed a few drinks from the tiki bar, and while the drinks themselves were pretty good, the bartender seemed a little weird about us walking over to scope out a table before deciding where to sit. He gave off a bit of a pressured vibe about staying in one spot if we wanted him specifically to make our drinks, which was a little odd. One big plus—they have heat lamps in the tiki section, so even on colder nights, you’re comfortable outside. Unfortunately, while we were playing pool, we did have an encounter with a creepy guy who was making inappropriate comments toward me. Thankfully, when I brought it up to the bartender, he acted quickly and handled the situation professionally, which I really appreciated. Overall, St. James Gate has a great vibe, caters to an older crowd, and offers a solid selection of drinks and food at reasonable prices. The quirky themed areas, live music, and relaxed tiki energy make it a fun spot to check out, though there are definitely some small service kinks to be aware of. Would I come back? Yes! Just maybe not on a rainy night.
Lovely bar, excellent atmosphere. Very quaint decoration. Service was excellent, drinks great 👍 The food was OK, jalapeño poppers were nice but I found the Ruben a but greasy and salty for my taste. The other main dish that my colleague had looked good honey burger. Good portions, good price.
Karaoke guy stopped the mucus mid song don’t know why and it’s what we came here for. Drunk people will happen here learn how to deal with them.
Extremely disgustedand disturbed at the man running the karaoke even tonight. My friend and I decided to sing together and, the karaoke guy stopped the music in the middle of our song, and tried to embarrass us in front of the whole bar. It was unbelievable and incredibly rude. It's a shame because we were so excited to come here.
Credit Card Fraud-Bland Food-Poor Service Myself and two friends showed up on a Friday evening on a friend’s suggestion after attending the Whimsy Market at Devil’s Canyon. The waiter asked for a credit card before we ordered, apparently to prevent any dine and ditch situations. It sets such a bad tone before a meal but I agreed. We were served tasteless bar food and up charged for a side. The place was more than half empty. We waited a long time for our bill and had to flag down two servers before we could pay. Our group paid for our meals and we left. The next day there was a charge on my card from St James Gate. The charge was not one of our previous nights totals and I paid with cash anyway. After several phone calls and two messages, no one from the restaurant reached out to me about the charge. I had to call my credit card company and based on the incident, they did not deem it as a mistake to be corrected by the restaurant. They deemed it as fraud. Maybe St James Gate has done this in the past and it triggered and alert with the credit card company, I don’t know. What I do know is that it has taken many hours and a lot of energy to file the report, obtain a new credit card, change the credit card information for recurring merchants and finally write this review to warn others. Save your time and money. Go somewhere else.
