Arepas el Cacao is a Venezuelan restaurant known for its large, delicious, and crispy empanadas. Customers consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, especially Carmen and Andreina, and the fast service. A minor complaint mentions excessive dough in the empanadas.
Tip: The restaurant's extended hours make it a great spot for late-night cravings. Try the empanada de pabellón or the empanada de carne mechada.
Since our move to the Midwest, we miss Latin American food, like the kind offered at Arepas El Cacao. The type of restaurant that is walk-in, casual, almost cafeteria style where you carry your own tray, but with excellent homemade flavors, and of course - lots of hot sauces and toppings to pick from! The arepa is one simple price, but you can select up to five fillings. With such delicious options, it was hard to choose. We went with pernil (pork) plantains, white cheese, beans, and avocado. Absolutely delicious! We also tried the guava-cheese filled pastries and an empanada. Believe me, you will miss this type of food if you move away from Florida. And if you're in Florida visiting, you should stop in and try something local. You won't regret it. Sabrosiiiiisiiimo!
Great service and good food. The soup was very tasty. A pleasant atmosphere for breakfast or lunch after work or when you don't want to just cook. The girls Carmen and Khris are very attentive to their customers.
The food was delicious! The service was excellent and it has a great vibe. The portion sizes are huge. Two people can share on plate. Overall the best place to get an arepa!
Great food. The arepas are delicious 😋 Good costumer services. A lot of hours open. You can have tequeños at 1:00 am Free parking lot
Excellent choice for Venezuelan Food, fare prices and good service
Late night snacked . We had the cachapa with cheese and the the cacao 1 arepa ! Wow ! It’s been a long time since I really enjoyed a cachapa of this amazing magnitude. So fresh so delicious , perfect to normal portion . Deff not to share , everyone should get their own . Now , let’s talk about the cacao number 1 ! There is a reason why is the number one , enough said ... lol . No ! Seriously , the explosion of the combination of all this flavors it’s out of this world . What an amazing experience trying this Arepa ! The seasoning of everything if you want to try it small amounts separately it’s perfect . Nothing taste overcook or over seasoned it . It’s huge , hungry or not so much , it’s more than enough for an adult . Speedy service and polite . The only thing I will keep in focus I will say the cleaning of the 2 tables outsides , should be a main priority . I won’t hold them back for this because I understand the nature of the business . But being Florida almost at number 1 in COVID cases , should be a main priority. I thank you for the amazing experience !
First the food was really good. I enjoy it. The order came fast. But I was impressed with the willingness of the stuff to give us tips about where to go and what to visit around. They accommodate as as best as they could. I am leaving this place hoping to cane back one day.
I'm a frequent visitor of this establishment. The food is solid and on point. The right flavors with the right environment. They've recently expanded their space. Which I greatly appreciate. The employees are friendly and are willing to to work with you if there's a language barrier. I enjoy coming here and hope they keep up the good vibes and food.
Not only the arepas, but the tequenos, empanadas and my favorite is the best and wonderful cachapa with extra cheese on top, all are delicious and very tasty and filling with extra amount of flavor!
Burgers were awesome. Sauce choices were unique as well. Staff was friendly, and the food was delivered quickly. The fries were great, although one may argue they were a bit over-salted. The outdoor seating is far better than the indoor choices, so keep that in mind as well.
Why 3.7 stars??? The food is phenomenal!!!!!! This place deserves a 5 stars in food. The place is clean, organized, and the girls are nice. The best cachapa I've had, the arepa cacao #3 delicious, empanadas mouthwatering. Try their passion fruit juice, it's frappe and sooo good.
First time visiting and I've been past here a lot. I walked in and the restaurant was clean and neat. The staff was very friendly. I only ordered tequeños but they were so good. The breading was crispy and perfectly golden brown. These were amongst the best tequeños I've had and I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Don't forget the sauce because they are excellent.
Delightful freshly made food. Come here for some unique items. I would recommend the Arepas 3 special. Try the sauces - the house picante sauce is no joke spicy and delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful. Fast. Great for dine in or take out.
Friendly staff and yummy food, thank you!
1st Time trying Arepas. Beef, plantain, cheese avocado. YUMMY! on 1/22
At Arepas El Cacao, Andreina provides exceptional service, always friendly and offering great recommendations. Everything was perfect, from the service to the quality of the food. Highly recommended 100%!
Food wasn’t bad at all, it was really good although it could be a little more tasty. Service 10 of 10 June 21 the lady who took my order was so kind and friendly
The food is absolutely amazing and the person serving us was so helpful and friendly as well and the place is just lovely and welcoming. A very deserving 5 stars. Thank you for having us.
Food was great and they were open late!
I recently had the pleasure of being served by Luis, and I have to say his attention to detail and friendly attitude made the experience even better! The arepas were absolutely delicious, perfectly made with fresh ingredients, but what truly stood out was Luis’s dedication to providing top-notch service. He was patient, helpful, and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. It’s rare to find someone who not only excels at what they do but also cares so much about the customer experience. Highly recommend grabbing some arepas from Luis – you won’t be disappointed!
Excellent service, the food was amazing. We ordered Arepas, tequenos and empanadas Everything came very fast and was well served.
just ordered a food for 6 people 3 of which had never had traditional Venezuelan food. It did not disappoint. Food reminded me of when when I lived there 24 years ago. Everyone loved it. Great service as well very polite and friendly. Order was accurate and quick.
Over all I leaned 5 because my only complaint is that I will take larger portions over fancy plating any day. It’s just weird to go to a Spanish food and not have an impressive looking plate. I will say they make the soup worth it and it tasted so close to my grandmas ( I’d be happy to help you with it lol a la orden) the juice/slushies is where it’s at but the food was still on point
Their service is awesome!!! Me and my family go there at least 1-2 times a month because their food is incredible but also they are hustlers!!! Always making sure their costumers are well attended and feel welcomed. Great experience everytime.
A dios mio. I love this place. The food is beyond incredible and the service is sensational. A true hidden gem in Orlando. Especially for those late night cravings. You have to get the Arepa con chicharrón it’s the only way
I love the arepas here. And the smoothies are always good. I recommend build your own with black beans, avocado, plantain, queso Blanco, queso de Mano. You can add chicken instead of one of those cheeses, but the chicken makes the arepa a little too wet.
The food so gooood!! Each plate is a big plate, good taste, the staff super nice and helpful, the place clean and really comfy La comida es buenísima, los platos son grandes, el sabor es delicioso, el staff es súper amable y te explican bien todo lo que quieras saber, el Local es limpio y cómodo.
My little sister took me here for dinner and I was blown away by the flavor! I ordered the Cacao 3 with a passion fruit smoothie. It was a 10/10. The Cacao 3 consisted of black beans, avocados, shredded beef, plantains and mozzarella cheese. The house made hot sauce brought just enough heat to the meal. I’m definitely going back. The service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was clean and small with outdoor sitting available. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Every time I have been to Arepas El Cacao the food has always been absolutely amazing! I would say the food is a bit pricey but it’s made fresh and always tastes great so it’s worth it. The fruit juices are also delicious and fresh.
The arepas are great but have become a little pricier lately. Whenever I stop by 1 arepa and 1 soda end up costing the same or more as a full meal at sit-down restaurants. The garlic sauce for the arepas is the best in town.
Visiting from South Texas and this was an enjoyable find. The servings were plentiful. Knowing spanish helps you navigate the menu. They did explain what one of the selections was that we couldn't figure out. Seating is limited but manageable. They stay open late but the menu slims down as well is a bummer. Overall will be back to try and catch some of the lunch only offerings.
Ordered an arepa for me and 1 other w/ 2 drinks and spent like $30+ dollars. First of all that's way too expensive. Doesn't matter how many condiments you add to it, its still very similar to an empanada and empanadas are not expensive. One of the condiments added was chicharon and it was extremely hard I felt like I was going to Crack my tooth. Very dissatisfied
This was not the 5 star I was anticipating for a few reasons. While it seems that business has grown at a decent rate (based on updates done within the location), the staff flow/movement was not orderly and several people were commenting on this. Basic pleasantries like saying they'll be right back, right with you, etcetera were lost on the ladies working yesterday. Perhaps better signage "order here; pick up here" or being given an order number would assist with the crowd that congregates at the register, but it seemed a bit chaotic. (Then again this is the perspective of a FL native who hasn't visited many other countries. Perhaps this is the norm there?) The food was good and prior to moving last year, hubby and I were here a few times month. I swore no one made arepas like they do, or at least did. This time it was very hastily prepared. There was always a quick grill after it was stuffed, just to melt the cheese and make the flavors more cohesive, however this time it was very hastily stuffed into our "to go" bag which subsequently leaked juice all over the rest of our order, out of the hole in the bottom of the bag to the floor of our vehicle. Just a little extra annoyance to what should've been our previous great experiences. So if you're okay with questionable service, the food is definitely on point and worth the stop.
My honest rating on overall stars would be 3.5 if Google allowed that. So im giving it a 4. However, on todays date at 2 pm the front girl lacked a lot if politeness, attention to detail and overall all in lamens terms. Not good Customer service. With that I will say it is the only thing that can be upsetting. Now; The food was GREAT, and I mean it. GREAT. Theres no before pictures because the after pictures should say a thousand words ( as in if it was that good you shouldnt miss out). My friend was with me and she was feeling a bit under the weather; she got the chicken soup and wow did it bring her back to life. Very nutritious <3 .we shared a “Cachapa al cacao” with no salad in it. And again. The picture says it all , I hands down would eat about 4-5 of these, because I can 😂 . I would recommend and I will come back. :)
I love getting food here, I've been coming here for years. However, I never sit inside because no one seems to care that guests have no problem talking on speakerphone and ruining it for the people who want to eat inside. I think the staff should not let people talk on speakerphone, it disturbs every one else.
To be completely fair, I am not an experienced Venezuelan food critic so I want to share my experience at Arepas El Cacao. The small restaurant is spotless and nicely decorated, plus the staff was very kind. The young lady took my order and I probably waited 5 minutes for my order. I ordered the arepa with everything in it: shredded beef, black beans, rice, sweet plantains, cheese, chicken salad and avocado. It was huge! Honestly I couldn’t even finish it. The arepa itself was a bit hard but I think it tasted good. I tried 3 different sauces but the green and the white sauce were average, while the pink sauce was definitely better. I’ll have to go back and try something else next time. The price was a bit high but for all the food they stuffed inside that arepa, I think it was alright.
The food is tasty. The atmosphere is pretty low; very quiet, no music when we went in we could hear a cricket. Prices were ok.
Overpriced, empanadas were so greasy and oily, unable to eat, shake was good. Arepa was ok.
Small fast food Latin American style edit bus. Service is a little slow so you can’t be in a hurry. Food quality is, well fast food. Have had much better. Wait let me change the slow to glacial.
The service from the two girls at the restaurant was excellent, but the wait for food seemed too long, given that the place was packed with customers and only two employees were doing all the work. The owner should hire more employees, because I won't buy anything here again.
Unfortunately I bought the tequeños and it was raw. And chicha always missing condensed milk. I waited like 10 min. Just for sauce. I will say customer service wasn’t good. as owner of business your number one goal should be excellent customer service with multitasking team make your better business and your customer will experience a great Venezuelan restaurant.
I was honestly very disappointed here. Spent about $50 for below average tasting arepas. The corn flour the arepas are made out of are thin and not the softest, it’s very bland in taste… you can tell they add no salt or butter to them. Wouldn’t surprise me if they come frozen. Place was very dirty btw and bathroom smelt like a sewer. If you’re visiting Orlando for great arepas go to Bocas gril in doctor Philips and or the food trucks over by old town instead of this place trust me!
I have been to this location in the past and unfortunately it has declined a lot. Food prices are much higher. They offer an extensive menu of traditional Venezuelan foods as wells as sodas and candy.. The empanadas were just ok. The arepa was extremely hard and were told that's how they make them. It was $10. I have the impression it had been sitting for hours before we were served. The seating arrangement is not the most comfortable and we had to listen the entire time to one of the employees talking about his upcoming trip to Miami and all the haunted houses he had visited with his uber cool friends as he was trying to impress the girl that was visiting him at work while we waited almost 25 minutes for our food (4 empanadas, 2 arepas, 1 order of tequenos) and we were the only ones there. With so many great Venezuelan options now in town, no need to come here anymore. Parking is also challenging .
I have been to this location several times. The food is amazing and customer service is great. BUT the night of january 26th 2020 on sunday i had the rudest most disrespectful cashier attending me. I have never been treated like that there or anywhere else and that's all it took me to not want to go there anymore. If your employees can't handle customer service they shouldn't be working with people. Very disappointing I always talk this place up and have taken people for their first time there to experience it. Which btw my friends first time there was sunday when I took her, and because of this cashier, its her last. Food is amazing. But customer service is everything. I drive an hour to eat from this location and to take new people here. Been going here for years.
Way too expensive for the food served. Over priced. From when I’ve known Arepas el cacao, the arepa was cold and not fresh. I feel their quality has declined. Food was ok. For what they charge for their food, is not the quality it should be
I ordered a cheese empanada, one arepa with shredded meat and cheese and passion fruit juice. The oil to fry the empanadas taste like fish, I think is time to change it. Not Good Arepa was regular. The juice made with frozen pulp is too sweet
This place is pretty over priced for what you get. My husband and I have matching stomach aches after eating here.
The food was very good however, the service was slow and the food was overpriced. Total cost for 4 arepas and 1 empanada was $61!. First off, the menu on the wall is not the same as the menu that is presented at the register. They charge one standard price of an arepa rellena. It's a good price if you fill it with 5 options but if you only want two things or one, you are still paying the same 12 dollars for an arepa you can make at home for 1 dollar. In our case we ordered an arepa with avocado And cheese only. We asked for chicken on the side and they said they couldn't give it to us which makes no sense if we paid the same price whether we did order it or not from the beginning. The man was awful at the customer service and just brushed us off rather than try and resolve the issue. In addition, they forgot to make our empanadas that we paid for. We got home and realized it wasn't in the bag. Instead, they should have separate cheaper prices for custom arepas or for arepas that are not filled with 5 items... also, they should streamline a process that is like a chipotle or pita pit style where you go down the line and pick the items you want in your arepa. It would be faster and smoother if they had the arepas already made and you can just fill it as you go. The wait was over 30 minutes and it was busy but not that busy. No places to sit if you're waiting. Overall, I would go back if I'm just paying for myself. But to go with a family or friends if you are paying for everyone then I recommend going somewhere else to get more bang for your buck. I hope I get compensated for the paid empanada I never received.
Not impressed at all. I paid almost $17 for 1 arepa and a juice. It was really wet from the chicken juices like soaking wet. The plantains I added were hard and not even sweet and gray and the avocado was dark. This will be my last time going there. Very disappointed. The juice was okay. The location they have in hunters creek is better.
The prices increased too much, the food truck specifically looks dirty, and the employees are too slow. I went 2 weeks ago and the arepas taste like they are reheated, the meat was too greasy. The price of the sodas is ridiculous $2.00 for a can that they buy the box to the big supplier, come one please. It seems that the more business they open the less quality they are giving to the customers. Don't recommend it. Is not the same.
Arepas meat was cold not appetizing at all.
Food is delicious ! The service tho! Crazy! I went at night and the people that is supposed to take care of you are just talking to each other and they don’t stop even when they see you approaching the counter. At a point she was taking my order and still telling a story to her other coworker at the same time (I was like wth?) unbelievable! Such a shame cause the food is awesome !
I've always love their food and I travel from Clermont to go there. But beware, if you don't tip they will give you a smaller portion and the burnt dry pork. The one time I don't tip, that's what I get. Looking for another place to go
Food is very over priced for the portions, and same with the drinks. It is also not fully authentic tasting. There are better spots in Orlando for Venezuelan food
I first tried arepas in Miami and when I saw this place, I did a U-turn because the ones in Miami were amazing, I had to try these. Unfortunately, they only looked like arepas, the flavour was not there. Arepas were bland, like cardboard. Toppings were dry and unseasoned. Even the cheese was dry and tasteless. The portions were big but I think I paid about $15 per arepa and I didn't finish eating mine.
For me they were excellent in all aspects in Venezuelan restaurants, but today the experience was not pleasant, the attention and the service was as usual, but in the food it was not good, I ordered a cachapa and it had no flavor, very thin, the horrible cream, the very good hand cheese and the cooked pernil with salt nothing more, without a previous marinade.
In the past month I’ve been 3 times to this place and, there’s this male who works there at nigh who you guys should definitely consider him working just morning shift, this man is disrespectful and w the worst attitude always, went last night w two of my friends who wanted to try for the first time and we all have to leave cuz of the attitude of this man, watch cameras around 12am, he needs to do better, he had an attitude and was disrespectful for absolutely not reason.
We placed our order at 1-10pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant. The lady at the counter took the order, proceeded to have an extensive conversation with a friend and our food was never prepped. We advised her to cancel the order at 1:34pm. Miraculously the order was prepped and ready at 1:36pm in a to go container and major attitude to go along with it instead of the sauces that should accompany the order. It is 1:4 and I am still waiting for a refund. We didn’t have time to eat before having to leave and she has the bag of untouched food. I guess chatting with your friends is more important than providing customer service. She apparently doesn’t know how to process the refund and is on the phone with someone that is trying to talk her through the process. She’d know taking an order while I wait. It is now 1:50pm and I just got my money back.
To start the cashier had a 15 minute conversation with another customer without even acknowledging me. I ordered a cachapa and it was uncooked I took a bite and it was horrible. I told the girls if they could cook the cachapa and they only cooked one side and the other was still uncooked. I went ahead and had my wife go an speak to them about it and that this shouldn't be happening and they pretended like I dint know what I was talking about. I think this place really need to listen to their customer if they have a complaint about their food. A change of staff would probably improve this restaurant.
I ordered arepas with carne mechada with some guayanés cheese but guess what they fill up the arepas with the cheese and very little carne. Mechada , i mentioned that to them and basically they told me it is what it is!!🤬🤬 definitely i don’t recommend this place poor service and food taste and super expensive prices!
I am not one to write reviews, but this was unbelievable. I got el asado negro, sooooo dry, flavor less, no salt, no sugar, no sauce. The maduros were also flavorless no salt and not sweet. they took forever to bring the food out and it was COLD. Will not be coming back and DO NOT recommend anyone to come
Horrible, don’t waste your time. The service was mediocre at best. They didn’t have chicken, didn’t have avocado, didn’t have arugula, the plantains were bland, the black beans were dry, and i could go on and on about the quality (or lack of) of the ingredients. If you’re looking for a plain cheese in your arepa, then it would be an okay meal. Granted the arepa itself was good, but was immensely degraded by the poor fillings. Also, the cleanliness of the establishment is deplorable; the tables were all dirty with dried food from previous customers stuck to it, the floor looked like it hadn’t been swept, they didn’t bother going around to pick up the trays that had been left at the tables. And as if all the things I mentioned before weren’t concerning enough, they use gloves for some things but nor for others, not ONE hair net in sight, and one of the employees had long straight hair near where the food is being cooked. Just completely disappointing overall.
Service has gone complete downhill within the last month. The workers are not attentive and are on their phone. Most of the time there is one person working and the other two are talking or texting. The food portions are not consistent anymore. I’ve been coming here for a long time, and I order the same thing. Some nights my arepa is stuffed some nights there is nothing in there. Where is the consistency and customer service?!
Do not bother. Empanadas were horrible, filing had no flavor whatsoever. Had to wait long to get our order. Staff does not work on the drinks while getting food ready, so my tequeños and empanadas sat on a heat lamp while making my coffee. Don't waste your time No pierdan su tiempo con este lugar
Worst arepa I've ever had! Not only it was cold but it took a very long time. Shredded meat was old and dry. The staff was very rude and need to work on their "people skills" Absolutely awful. I DO NOT recommend eating there.
Always have enjoyed the food here but lately it's just bad. The arepa was burnt and the empanadas were undercooked. Imagine that. The papaya drink was bland and tasted like crushed ice. Well, I doubt I will be be going there again.
Terrible attention by the restaurant manager. Pésima atencion por parte del “manager” I waited more than 40min for the food (btw place was empty), and they started serving people that arrived after ourself, despite that some food was requested for my child. I approached the restaurant manager, and he answered in a disrespectful manner, and directly told me: do you want your money back? Instead of giving feedback about food status! I have been visited many venezuelan restaurants around USA and WW, however this is the worst experience I have so far. Do not recommend at all. I am venezuelan, and I DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.
I used to visit this visit this place to get some Venezuelan food in the past, but tonight was the most horrible experience I ever had. Spent about $30, got charged for some fries I never ordered than after about 26 minutes wait, the order was a total mess, paid for a chicken and ham and chesse empanada and they gave me the wrong order, the cachapa was burnt… Not going back!
Rude. Unprofessional. Humiliating. At this Venezuelan restaurant, our server, Andrea, refused to bring my food to the table, left it at the front register, and used Google Translate to tell me to “tip next time.” They returned my money but took back the food, and the manager offered nothing but hollow apologies. I will never return — and I will not be recommending this place to anyone, including my friends, family, or coworkers. Please avoid going here and do not support this business. Food isn’t worth the ridiculous price anyway lol.
I ordered three arepas with avocado and other fillings. I paid over $50 for the order, only to receive cold, thin, flavorless arepas, and, worst of all, spoiled avocado. This place is deteriorating day by day. It used to be a good place to try Venezuelan arepas, but not longer. The employees have a bad attitude towards the customers
Horrible experience. Way to expensive for what they actually serve on the plate. My arepa was with shrimps and it only brought 2 tiny shrimps and my mom’s arepa has only 1! It’s ridiculous and embarrassing. I didn’t eat anything and left the establishment hungry. There was no changing table on either restroom. The guys serving was ro rude and should defined get service 101 training. Dirty and gross. That guy used the same gloves to clean, wash the dishes and cook. OSHA should definitely intervene. Simply disgusting.
We went to the “new location” on 1990 e Osceola park, that’s supposed to be open on nov 4th, and it’s not. We wasted time, and gas, and most importantly the disappointment of being hungry and not being able to get the food. A caring restaurant wouldn’t play with people’s time like this. At least have the decency to take out the sign from the previous place so people don’t waste their energy for nothing.
What happened to this place?!? It's really gone downhill. It used to be 100% solid, and by far the best arepas in the United States. Back when I lived here in Orlando for 10 years I used to eat these every other week minimum. My pregnant wife used to eat these twice, sometimes 3 times a week. I know how they should be. Ya ya the prices have come up, a bit much if you ask me, but even still, the quality has dropped off significantly. Evening shift December 28th workers were very unpleasant, the sauces had run out, and then they totally skimped on the meat and shrimp on my arepas with everything! I even said something to the guy while it was happening and he ignored me. I can't believe I typed him prior to making them. I may go back there again during the early afternoon before we leave and head back to the West Coast just to see if a different worker makes things the way they're supposed to be. We're on Christmas vacation right now. I had hyped this place up so much for my daughter who is going to try a arepas for her first time...absolute let down. These arepas were 75% chicken salad, and I watched the dude barely put any chicken or shredded beef in each of the arepas. Like it was 100% a skimp job, never mind the fact that there were missing shrimp. Supposed to be 3 in each. I get the fact that they expanded building, I understand that inflation is a real thing. But I also understand that this place used to have a 4.8 rating!!! There's a reason why it's like a 3.5 now. Y'all better get back to the way you used to be, otherwise you'll be out of business before you know it when you charge high prices for mostly filler chicken salad arepas. So sad, we were so excited too 😢
I came to order a side of shredded beef, and the lady who helped me wouldn’t sell me the side. I don’t understand how a restaurant doesn’t sell sides or extra items. It doesn’t make any sense.
One person take order and the same person cooking the food for 8 people that’s crazy they take along time bad customer service they need to hire more people and the girl cooking is fast but to much customer for her to handle so every time some one walks in she has to stop cooking and get the customer order omg
I was the only 1 standing at the counter and the worker let another customer just order right in front of me and I was standing there. He knew that and just let it happen. Also there is a slight smell of sewage as well. Just very upsetting and I just walked out.
This place is not what I used to be. It’s dirty nasty the sauce disgusting. I will never come back to this place. They must change administration or something places disgusting and very expensive $30 for 1 arepa and 1 order of tequeno .
Best arepa & cachapas in town but the owners only have 1 employee at the location, never pick up the phone and they shut down the delivery app before time. A shame……
