My favorite Full Mexican restaurant. I love the enchiladas the most but their Soup is yummy & the menu is big enough that you can find what you like. Authentic! Full bar & yummy Margaritas. Large Tequila selection. They make their own Sangria. Large groups are covered.

I'm smitten with the ceviche cocktail here! I was surprised when I received it and it was hot! I'm so used to having it served cold, but I'm am now a fan of hot ceviche! I've tried about 1/2 of the menu and have not been disappointed yet! The service is great and everyone is friendly. My only complaint is that unless you know where the location is, it's easy to miss. Definitely make certain to make a visit here!

Always a favorite place of ours when it comes to great Mexican food and really great service!!! We've been coming here for years. There are a few in town we like, but this is where we go the most! If you're travelling, it's an easy off and back on the highway at Missouri Flat Rd Exits

Hands down, the best Mexican food I've ever had. The Gran Burrito was not only richly flavored without being overdone, but the thing was so big I couldn't finish it. Highly recommend this place!

If you are staying at the Best Western, you have to come here! The margaritas are fun and the food is great! The lamb shank, chicken fajitas, shrimp ceviche, and chips and salsa all hit the spot. So glad we followed the wonderful smell to this restaurant. The agave in front of the restaurant is a wonderful touch!

We ate here twice. The first night the waiter took time to answer all my questions and I found they would make what I want with grilled chicken as I cannot eat anything with bell peppers. I've never found a Mexican restaurant that would do this. The second night our waiter was rarely seen but the food was still wonderful. I met the owner, grandma, was very pleasant, thankfully she made sure we had chips and salsa. I'll be back the next time I'm in town

The best guacamole I've even eaten! Seasonings in all the dishes were just right for adding just the right amount of flavor!! My sisters and my mom and I loved this place! Beautiful decor, clean and food was delicious! Ever was our waiter, and he was very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely be back!

The food was excellent. Our server was quick and handled all of our needs. Clean and comfortable dining. I do prefer the restaurant seating over the seating in the bar area. It's much brighter and more pleasant.

The service here is truly incredible. So fast and so friendly! The restaurant is consistently busy but we’ve never had to wait for seating based on how large the restaurant is. The margaritas and palomas are so delicious! Every menu item I’ve tried has been fantastic and their jalapeños are no joke!!

Tucked away off the 50. Staff were friendly and waited on us right away. The tortilla soup 🍲 was loaded with chicken and filling. The chips were a bit hard but I ate them. If you’re looking for a quick convenient location this would be it. The parking lot had plenty of parking.

New booths but older atmosphere in general Great staff here. I think it's the best Mexican food in El Dorado county. After all, who else has Jalisco lamb on their menu?? Good luck finding that at any other Mexican place. The grandfather's Margaritas are the best on the card as well.

C

The place was great, the staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was amazing. The best mexipizza around. The quesadilla was perfect. Also they had pepsi. Mmmmm I'm looking forward to calling this place home lol.

For over two decades, I've been making my pilgrimage to this family-owned gem, and somehow, it keeps getting better with age- like their tequila, but with fewer regrets, the next morning Let's start with what matters: those margaritas. They don't just serve margaritas; they deliver small swimming pools of perfectly balanced tequila concoctions . The food defies the typical "Mexican restaurant" label. Everything arrives on plates that could double as small coffee tables, but what truly elevates this place is the staff. Some faces I've seen for over 20 years, They remember your usual order, ask about your family, and somehow manage to make you feel like you're dining in their home rather than their workplace. In fact, i'm pretty sure some of them live there.once left my wallet there--stuffed with enough cash to make losing it a genuine traged y- and returned the next day to find everything intact, handed back to me by one of the restaurants OG's magnificent eyebrows extended past his nose like natural awnings. Despite our language barrier, his integrity spoke volumes. In an industry known for cutting corners, this place stands as a testament to the rewards of doing things the right way, year after year. The portions are generous, the quality never wavers, and the atmosphere remains as welcoming as your grandmother's kitchen--ifyour grandmother made killer enchiladas and had a fully stocked tequila bar. This isn't just a restaurant; it's a community landmark where memories are made And in today's world, that's something worth celebrating preferably with one of their legendary margaritas in hand.

This restaurant has changed hands several times over the past 5+ years. Some were not so good and we were a little hesitant to try again. Pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent with nice sized portions. Service was good, even if not particularly friendly. The decor needs some attention. All-in-all, a good experience. We will be back.

Best place I’ve visited in a long while. I went 4 times in a row with my Helicopter crew. The best thing I had to eat was that seafood chimi OMG was it delicious. Our bartender that night was outstanding she kept our drinks topped off and had a great chat which kept us engaged while eating. I’d recommend the seafood chimi all day to anyone. But it is big af definitely worth the money. I had it with shrimp inside and it was awesome. Thanks again Casa Los Abuelos. HP Helicopters Crew ✌️👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 instagram@shwayjayy P.S. very chill environment loved it.

The food was fantastic, and the staff were amazing. I had the Chili Colorado and a cup of Albondoga Soup. Reminded me of my childhood. I was lucky to have sat down with one of the owners for a little bit, and what a fantastic guy. This is a great place to take your family, ran by a really cool family.

Excellent Mexican restaurant located just off Highway 50, near Placerville California. Parking is sufficient and convenient. Large dining room with a separate bar room. Dining available in both areas. Menu is extensive offering many items not found in many Mexican restaurants . Food is excellent and served piping hot. Service can sometimes be a little slow but servers are cordial and friendly. Highly recommend stopping here when you’re in the area.

Popped in here with a group of us for lunch and enjoyed a delicious meal. I had the steak fajitas (lunch menu) and a margarita. Perfect for a group and even though it was a lunch serving I took enough away for my dinner and more! So generous portions!

Good food, good vibes, recommend getting a margarita. Got the Pollo Cancun and it was very good. Went around 4pm so there weren't many people there, but service was good. It is a bit pricey, around $19 for most of the plates.

First time here & couldn't be happier! Came here for a family birthday dinner & it was amazing! We had been to the restaurant when it was previous owners/name but never this one. Staff is awesome, food was delicious! The portions were perfect as well. Everyone loved the fried ice cream it was super yummy. The staff even did a birthday song for our grandpa & everyone in the restaurant started singing along. We will definitely be back! High recommend!

I have been to Casa Los Abuelos twice now, just wish I could go more often. As the crow flies it is 35 miles from my home which is off of HY 99 and Calvine Road.in Sacramento/Elk Grove. Very good Margarites, I have lime flavored, no salt, doctors orders. I do get a shot of Grand Mariner as a toper so it does make for a costly drink (but Oh so good) I have to comment about their chips & salsa, the chips were good, the salsa, well as they say "is to die for" Both meals that I ordered filled me up and as you can see from the picture I had plenty to take home. During my second visit the wait staff started moving tables together, which surprised me, with social distancing because of Covid 19. Shortly after a large number of people show up as a group and are seated, let the party begin. It looked like they were having a great time. I think I counted 28 around people.

We had a great experience here! Very busy but still got us in and served within a reasonable amount of time. The food was amazing! A little more expensive than other Mexican restaurants in the area but completely worth it! Good sized plates and everything we tried tasted great! Customer service was great as well. Waiter checked on us regularly. I will definitely be returning.

Margarita was huge and food portions large. Wait staff was nice, albeit a few more smiles would make this place stellar. Fajitas were great, but too much food to finish.

C

M

On our way back from Tahoe, looked up a spot for lunch and decided to give them a shot. Food and drinks were on point. If you are driving solo you will probably need a designated driver. They do not hold back on the alcohol in the mixed drinks. Great thing about that is, if you decide to order food, the portions will definitely help you to soak everything up. I would have given them a solid 5 stars but the only downside was the long wait for pretty much anything; food , the bill or to go containers. Still worth the stop, just have another drink while you're waiting.

G
Greg Cordero

This place has excellent food! Definitely recommend for some off the hook Mexican food. Would've given five stars but one of my wife's chicken enchiladas came out with nothing but refried beans inside. They were quick to make her a new one and correct the problem though.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Placerville. Been a customer for years, under a different name until recently. One thing that keeps me coming back is the very special margarita they make from scratch with my favorite tequila, fresh squeezed limes made fresh. The food is great and many standards to taste and enjoy. Really like the chips and salsa. Always a busy restaurant and bar with sports tv's located in the bar.

J
Jennifer Abrego

We had the fajitas, they were good. We also ordered aguas fresca, it is not aguas frescas. It taste like something already made out of a bottle, like Tampico. Other than that, service was good.

Seated right away. Great menu selection. Chili relleno was delicious. Bean dip is definitely garlicky but good garlicky. Service was not fully attentive to our refill needs but food was good.

This is another great place to Happy Hour for food and drinks. The margaritas are amazing. Its always nice seeing at least 20 to 30 people enjoying parties there. The staff is all great. Perfect on and off the highway. Sit in the bar and talk with the bar tenders Willy and Allen great guys.

S
Seth Minerva (Ganner)

It was really good, you get a lot of food. I ordered takeout. The food was warm not hot, which really didn't bother me. Since it just meant that I got to eat it right away and not have to sit there and let it cool down. Overall I look forward to ordering other things off their menu.

They're mexi pizzas off the hook, but the last two times I got a sangria there, and keep in mind, they are huge, i didn't even catch a buzz. , not sure what they changed with the sangria, but they need to fix that, Because that was the main reason I went there because their sangrias were so good.

Lived up precisely to the expectations of a post-skiing just off the highway Placerville Mexican restaurant. You’ll leave full of rice, beans, a little too salty fajita chicken, and a margarita that will hit the spot. P.S. my boyfriend disagrees about how salty the chicken was but I think he was biased by the massive serving size (aka fajitas for 2 = fajita for 4)

c
coachlunk Rubio

Good mexican food in Placerville. The service was friendly. Drinks were tasty.

D
Dennis Nyman

This has always been our go to place when visiting Placerville however, we were very disappointed this time. The service was extremely slow and the food was not up to what we expected. The wife ended up getting a refund on her fish tacos and I experienced issues with the cheese enchiladas about an hour after I ate them.

C
Christie Samoville

I stopped here because it was basically the only place I could find for miles off the freeway, to eat. The service is incredibly slow but very polite and friendly. It's not cheap a far as Mexican food goes when dining out. The food was ok. At least for the price the portions were pretty large.

M
Marybeth Eaton

I love this place for their food, drinks and service. I'm disappointed they are charging more than $3.00 in addition to my bill if I use my debit or credit card. I would rather they raise their prices than adding on a separate fee to get people to pay cash for their meal.

A
April Nejeres

The service was great. Very nice waiters. My cousin and I both ordered the carne asada, which were both good in flavor, but overdone to the point it was like beef jerky. My fiance got the Lamb and although the sauce was good and the lamb was cooked very well, he said it just tasted like someone cooked the lamb with no seasoning and then poured the sauce right on top of it. My cousins said that the Margaritas were good and very strong, so if you like a heavy drink that also comes in a big cup this is the place.

K
Kel M

I love the food here and for food I would give them a 4 or 5 easily. However the service we received left much to be desired. We repeatedly had to ask for water, extra sour cream and our check. It took 50 minutes from the first time we asked for our check before we got it. To be fair there was a large party there so I understand they were busy but 50 MINUTES to obtain our check was ridiculous.

M
Melissa McKelvey

Our waiter was sweet and very attentive. Unfortunately we had to wait an hour for our food to arrive. They might be short staffed. My mom’s fajitas and our margarita were tasty. I was disappointed with my fajita salad.

L
L Janette

Although this place is nestled in a nice area, the food was not that great. It also took a while for food to arrive. Had high hopes it being authentic Mexican food since its family owned but it wasn’t.

v
veronica jurado-soto

I was so disappointed. who uses yellow American cheese slices in an "authentic Mexican" restaurant? las salsas no picaban, ni tenían sabor. the service was slow. I had high hopes.

V
Valerie Baker

Food was just okay. I had the Mexican Pizza. There was a hair in the chips brought to the table. Pricey for what you get, but everywhere is over priced these days. Service was great. 2023 update: the seats and tables have been refurbished and they are much nicer. Staff, as in the past, are friendly and efficient. 2024 update: carnitas tasted like it was a week old! Dry and even hard to chew, plus prices have gone sky high for the quality of the food.

K
Kirsten Prince

Birthday dinner, Tuesday night, busy but not slammed. Gal said as we entered that the kitchen was backed up and she could not seat us, that we had to wait 10 minutes? Luckily the owner came by and seated us. Chips & salsa was excellent, as well as the margarita, (I asked for no salt, had to remake). Only critique, shredded chicken needed a knife. Then as we were presented with the check they had double billed us....training opportunity maybe?

L
Loreal Slofkosky

I really wanted to like this place, since it's a family operation, but I was less than impressed. I really grappled whether to share my experience, so after a week I decided to share. Let me start by saying I'm vegetarian, so lard is a no no. I just wanted a simple bean and cheese burrito and specifically told them I wanted whole beans. They managed to serve while beans with my husband's meal, but I wasn't so lucky.. See pic. Long story short, it was a refried bean mess and definitely had lard. I chose not to send it back since they were so busy with other tables and the music was so loud they probably wouldn't have heard me.. As for my husband's enchiladas, the sauce wasn't what I am used to, perhaps it's for to region of the recipe.. North vs south, etc. My experience did not seem shared, since they were plenty busy, plus they have a full bar to equalize the food.

Elissa Fritz
Elissa Fritz

My tamale was pretty good. The chimichanga had mostly beans inside and it came with a side of beans and rice. After the waitress took our order, someone else brought our food and the waitress never talked to us again. We had to get up and find her to ask for the check. It wasn't busy, maybe 4 or 5 other tables in the entire restaraunt and there was another server. Not terrible but we won't be back.

Katie Smith
Katie Smith

The food was good. Nothing special, just tasted like generic Mexican food. The Tres Chilis plate came with a huge chili relleno, a scoop of chili colorado, a half scoop of chili verde, rice, and beans. The chili relleno and rice were the best parts. The carnitas street tacos were good, the carnitas were nice and crispy, but they weren't very flavorful. The beans on both plates were a thin smear of refried beans and a ton of cheese on top, more cheese than beans. The service was alright. It was Mother's Day, dinner time, so they appeared on the busier side, but we were seated right away and there were several vacant tables. It took about 15 minutes for the waiter to come take our order. The prices seemed very high. Two plates, an iced tea, and a virgin Pina colada came in at a few cents shy of $60. I think the most disappointing part of the experience was getting the credit card slip back and seeing that we were charged almost $63 when our bill was $59 and change. Apparently they charge a "merchant fee" to pay with a debit/credit card. I've never been charged a credit card processing fee at a restaurant before, and with how high their prices already were, it seemed like an insult. Based on the mediocrity of the whole experience, we probably wouldn't return here.

S
Sarah Beaver

I have known the Casa Ramos small chain since its days in Yreka California. Unfortunately this experience in Placerville along with previous visits here have been pretty bad. My hubby's fish tacos were sent to our table smelling very loud and strong. I tried the Mexican pizza with no meat. It tasted okay, but the next morning I wasn't well if you know what I mean. I didn't put two-and-two together until we had the leftovers of that pizza for lunch the following day. Hubby and I weren't well for the rest of the day. I don't like giving unfavorable reviews but I really think this is a way for us to be smart consumers with our hard to come by dollars. I really I hope they get back on track someday soon.

N
Nicholas Nilsen

Excellent service but it was slow. I can only imagine they're stretched too thin which doesn't reflect in my two-star rating. I ordered fajitas steak carnitas and shrimp, it was delicious. My daughter had a simple mac and cheese kids meal which was very affordably priced at $5. My wife ordered the fish tacos this is what caused all the problems, they were very fishy. Not rotten but definitely not tasty. We were requested of substitute of chicken tacos, most restaurants will expedite a replacement order but it took over 30 minutes to get a replacement, I was already done with my meal and shared a lot of it with her so it was really a waste of food. The staff was very courteous and apologetic. They gave me salsa very spicy flavorful salsa that I requested them beginning and it was fantastic as well as their mild salsa they served initially. I don't think I'll be back with all the restaurants in town I haven't been to I would sooner look for a new place, and while I wouldn't recommend them based on my experience I would absolutely encourage you to give them a shot, maybe this is a one-off. The restaurant, restrooms and waiting area were very clean and the overall atmosphere is great. Good luck.

C
Cassie Blaset

We came here last Friday night after several days of camping and it was near our hotel. All we wanted was good food and cold drinks. With that said, the best part of our experience was the service (you rock Litzy!), the salsa (yum!) and the cold beers. The strawberry daquiri's and margaritas we ordered were ice cold, but mostly ice with next to no flavor; the rice was wet and sticky and the beans tasted like they came from a can. I had read a lot of great reviews before going here and I'm honestly disappointed at how bad it was. Hoping it was just an off night. Not sure I'll come back if I am in the area again.

Went here for my Birthday dinner because I am usually very pleased with this restaurant, although did not tell them it was my Birthday. I do not know what changed about Casa Los Abuelos so drastically, perhaps because the restaurant was unusually busy, but that is not an excuse. I don't know what the music even was, kind of a hip-hop rap beat that was annoying and definitely did not create a joyous Mexican atmosphere. The server was not very responsive or punctual. It took 20 minutes just to get a glass of very chlorinated water, chips were overcooked, salsa was a cross between tomato soup and spaghetti sauce (as always) so ordered an appetizer and it arrived with the meal instead of beforehand as it should. The food quality has gone downhill and was even feeling bloated and unwell after eating here. My boyfriend actually got sick later that evening. Sadly, this was not an experience I can look back on fondly.

L
Letitia Maynard

I would give it zero stars. We paid 13 bucks for a plate of lettuce and steak (which steak was three dollars extra) that was suppose to be a "taco salad". When we asked the manager about it he just wrote it off like nothing. They were so busy we didn't get our drinks for twenty minutes and didn't get our appetizer until just before our main meal. Super slow service and management just doesn't care.

E
Edward Moss

Bad experience here. Food was just ok and overpriced. A large group of people with small kids was at a large table near us. We are ok with kids that are supervised. This group of parents didn't watch the kids. The kids were screaming and yelling while throwing balls on the walls. They was crawling under our table and feet. Parents did nothing. Told waiter several times something needed to be done. Waiter did nothing. This restaurant allows unruly children to run wild. I will never go back!

J
Justin Whitton

I really wanted to like this place but their food was below average and their pricing seems very high. Would not recommend at all, many other places in town with nicer people and better food.

D
Dina Savoroski

I wont go back. I have tried a few times to be understanding to many situations but last time there was THE last time. The bartenders don't pay attention to you at the bar, cant understand them if they do respond, saw a bartender serve a glass of wine to someone from a left over glass of wine. It's just bottom barrel restaurant. Last straw? Went there with family and there was hair in the salad. We didn't say anything because it wouldn't matter- it's just not a restaurant I will recommend and never go back ( and for you all who think I'm bad mouthing....I'm not. I have lived in EDC 30 years, been to this restaurant a few times and I have been unhappy every time. ). Go to Taco Bell instead

Ordered a $20 dollar mushroom/ fish plate (not fish tacos) and it was terrible. Drowned in butter and zero seasoning. Seriously gross. ON TOP OF THAT, the fish was clearly old or something cause I got very sick after I got home. Paid $20 to get sick. SMFH

We waited approximately 15 minutes before our waitress came to take our drink order. We placed our order when our drinks arrived. Our waitress brought us chips and salsa twice while we waited for our food. We had small children with us who were starting to get rambunctious so after waiting 45 minutes for our food I told one of the waitresses that if our food wasn't ready I wanted to cancel our order. It was ready so we had it boxed to go. They gave us plenty of chicken but extremely small portions of the lettuce, cheese, etc. that you put on fajitas. The chicken fajitas were delicious. The service, not so much. They charge a 3.99% fee if you use a credit card. And, I don't know if this is true or not because I didn't order a cocktail but an angry customer told me that she was charged a $2.50 delivery fee for her drink to be brought to her table.

Worst food and service ever! Visited this place today for lunch. I ordered a "lunch special" to find out they don't serve lunch on the weekends? I sat patiently at my table and waited until someone asked if I had been helped. I ordered an enchilada & rice The food was tasteless. Nothing. So I asked for salsa, salt & pepper, out came enchilada sauce (salsa?) Even after I doctored up my meal I was unable to eat it. Disgusting.

We went for Father's Day lunch, and the gentlemen in the bar were also our server Older gentlemen rud and no customer service at all in my opinion he gets 5 minus stars. The food is acceptable, but the customer service is 👎 this was their last chance with our family, and after 5 times, we won't be going back.

Used to love them now not so much. Your people gave us chips and 20 min later still no service. We walked out. Its like losing a best friend. Used to love bloody Mary's. We will take our 100.00 bill elsewhere

Unfortunately there’s not a 0, the atmosphere was as if I was illegal. I walked in to get a margarita. I sat at the bar neither one of the bartenders (literally standing 10 feet away) never acknowledged me they looked at me and turned around and continued their conversation.
