Grill Tortuga Playa del Carmen Reviews
Wow wow wow! What a restaurant! Love the overall atmosphere. Staff are extremely friendly and attentive especially Agusto! FOOD 10/10! The fact that this place is kosher was a big plus for my penguin Grahm, he highly recommends the Corn Ribs.
I celebrated a friend's birthday. I ordered the tacos and the risotto twice, which was really delicious. The meat dishes were really tasty. The attitude and the service highly recommend the meat restaurant. Hyatt training and thanks also to all the kitchen braids who work hard to make it delicious for everyone (I know how hard working in the kitchen is)
We had a beautiful plentiful Shabbat dinner The service was excellent The food very tasty The atmosphere of fellow. People wanting Shabbat experience was very nice We really recommend for Friday night dinner The dessert was also excellent
Everything we got from here was incredible. We don't usually go to such high end restaurants but we were on vacation for a special occasion and choose this hotel. It was hard to swallow spending so much on food, but the quality, atmosphere and overall experience prevailed over our frugality. They even gave us complimentary drinks for our special occasion which was such a nice touch. Highly recommend the lamb riblets (super -fatty and delicious) and their sushi. The BBQ ribs were good too. We loved the spare rib tacos but wished they were a little bigger. We also got room service from the restaurant for Sunday morning and it was delicious (the grand breakfast). There were tons of different options and it was more than enough for 2 ppl. We were disappointed that the yogurt was left out because we're both yogurt fans, if we weren't leaving right away we probably wouldn't asked for it and I'm sure they would've brought it.
Wow beautiful place and excellent vip service from the best waiter a shoutout to Jain manuel !and the special chips and sauce from the chef tonight! Food scrumptious! We will try it nightly! Wish we staying more than a week….
Best kosher food in playa! Located on beautiful beach in the hotel. Friendly waiter's and good menu. BBQ ribs are a must.
We had the most incredible time! This didn’t feel like “just another kosher meal in Mexico” - the dinner was excellent, the service was incredible. Jorge tended to our every need, and the mashgiach came around to check in and see how everything was. Would highly recommend!!!
Rarely when I splurge on a really pricey meal do I feel like it was worth the money. The food, service, and atmosphere here were next level, and this was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. We ordered their Valentine’s Day dinner, which included various courses of seafood, steak, veggies, and more. Everything was cooked to perfection and they brought my wife a rose at the start of the meal. I really enjoyed this dinner.
Our Vacation Highlight in Playa de Carmen! What an incredible dining experience we had at this hidden gem in Playa de Carmen! From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. First and foremost, the food was absolutely divine. Every dish was a masterpiece of flavors and presentation. It's evident that the chefs here are culinary artists who take great pride in their creations. From the appetizers to the dessert, every bite was a burst of deliciousness. The seafood was fresh, the spices were perfectly balanced, and the variety on the menu was impressive. We were in gastronomic heaven! However, it wasn't just the food that made our evening memorable. Our waiter, Juan, played a crucial role in ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. He was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He guided us through the selection, offering fantastic recommendations that suited our preferences. Juan's warmth and professionalism made us feel like valued guests, and we appreciated his efforts to make our evening special. The ambiance of the restaurant was also delightful. The soft lighting, soothing music, and well-appointed decor created a cozy and romantic atmosphere that was perfect for our vacation date night. In summary, our visit to this restaurant in Playa de Carmen was the highlight of our vacation. We couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. If you're in the area and looking for a place to enjoy outstanding food, impeccable service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, don't miss the opportunity to dine here. It's truly a culinary masterpiece, and we can't wait to return on our next trip to Playa de Carmen!
Oh wow , first of thank you so much to Juan our waiter who really made me connect to my routes , this restaurant was amazing the service and the food were incredible, the chef himself came out and brought a couple plates out and I kid you not it was like ratatouille when he eats the grapes and the cheese it was a beautiful experience I just wanted to close my eyes and taste every single aspect of the food ! Thank you ! Thank you The grill for an amazing first night at the Hyatt will definitely come back
Shabbat service was out of this world! And loved the to go bag with extras for Sauda slishi! But.. the best thing here is the apple crumble pie! Best desert ever had!
We celebrated our anniversary here. The food and service were outstanding. I have a number of food allergies including gluten, dairy, onion, garlic, and peppers. The chef created a special sauce for my entree and they even made a dairy free chocolate mousse with a raspberry filling. The whole experience was phenomenal. The chef and our server Carlos took excellent care of us - it was very enjoyable! Highly recommend.
Excellent kosher steak house right by the beach at the grand hyatt playa del Carmen. Service was exceptional and the restaurant had a really nice ambiance. We got a variety of steaks and appetizers all were very good. My only complaint would be the appetizer portions are very small.
Our experience at The Grill was absolutely phenomenal! The food was mouth-watering, the vibe was lively and inviting, and the service was top-notch. To top it all off, the pricing was incredibly reasonable. We had an unforgettable time and can't wait to come back!
I was a solo female diner and visited on a slow night -due to an approaching storm (there were three other parties present while I was there). The server and waiter were super genial. I ordered the corn ribs (amazing) gnocchi (delicious), and truffle fries (I’ve had better). The lady sour mocktail was great, and I was too full for dessert. A highlight of my experience was when the chef personally came over to introduce himself, which was a nice touch, especially since he didn't visit other tables. Just a heads-up: they don’t bring water to the table and I was charged when I requested some. Overall, I’ll definitely be back!
The drinks were great. The smoked bone marrow was amazing. Our waiter was great. The dessert was very good, but the chocolate and the coconut flavor could have been better. Excellent experience. Thank you so much,
Lugar muy agradable, comida rica, servicio muy bueno..... Excelente!

Delicioso, excelente servicio.
Si no me hubiera gustado no habría puesto 5*.
From the moment we arrived at the grill restaurant at the Hyatt Playa del Carmen, we felt truly celebrated. The staff warmly greeted us and escorted us to our table — and to my surprise, they brought over my favorite drink, thanks to the hotel noting it was my birthday. The service was absolutely top-notch: attentive, friendly, and seamless. The food was delicious — beautifully prepared and full of flavor. To make the night even more special, they surprised us with a birthday cake complete with sparkling candles. It was an unforgettable experience, and I can’t recommend this restaurant enough for a special occasion or a memorable night out.
Where do I start? This was easily one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. From the impeccably prepared food- all fresh and wonderfully flavored- the unique and creative cocktails, the beautiful and chic ambiance, and the wonderful service, I could not have asked for more from a restaurant. Our server, Juan, went out of his way to make sure we were happy with everything, even remaking a cocktail because I didn't love it the first time. They even brought us a special dessert for our anniversary. Also shoutout to Israel for the education on Mezcal and "Memo" the bartender. If I could give The Grll Playa 6 stars, I would!
I had an amazing dining experience! The food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect, creating a fantastic atmosphere. I'd like to give a special shout-out to our server, Jorge, who provided excellent service and made our visit even more enjoyable. And kudos to the restaurant manager, Bernie :)"
Simply EXCELLENT. Our second time here and the food is just exquisite. Beautiful aura, great waiter service, clean space. Obsessed. They have a decent amount of options, so really something on the menu for everyone. I would definitely come here again And again and again. If you’re in playa, this place is a must stop!
This restaurant was the best I tried in Playa for dinner and lunch. I found the food to be fresh and well seasoned. I was provided excellent customer service and the prices are reasonable. The apple tart wasn't sweet enough for me but if you like a less sweet and more natural flavor you might enjoy it, it's big enough for several people to share.
Bottom line up front: Elegant steak house serving expensive cuts of meat and fish. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ They started service with an amuse of shrimp ceviche. Definitely one of the better flavor profiles of the evening. We started with some oysters from Baja that were pretty good raw but we also tried them grilled with chorizo. The appetizers here are probably the best things. We had the raviolis (which were actually capeletti) and roasted bone marrow which were both delicious. For entrees we had the Wagyu filet, the fish of the day (grouper), and the grilled prawns. Everything was delicious. One thing to be weary of is how thin the steak cuts are. Slightly different from your standard American steak house cut. The grouper and prawns were both very well cooked and delicious. Dinner was topped off with a roasted pear and petit fours. Overall very good, but not excellent enough to travel out of your way for. The service was excellent. Definitely one of the better and nicer places in the area though.
Not sure how to feel about this place, food was incredibly overpriced and definitely was not worth it. Waiters were nice but our waiter should’ve informed us that the water was 10 bucks before giving it to us. Cocktails were good. Atmosphere was a bit dark at night but I didn’t mind.
Was so looking forward to this dinner after hearing only good things and left underwhelmed. Service was great but food was mediocre for the price.
The food was delicious, but very overpriced. The beet salad cost $20 USD and only had one sliced beet and a couple of leaves. It would have been a great appetizer, but neither the waiter or menu indicated it wouldn’t be enough food for a meal. The salad, sushi, and two drinks cost $118 USD. I felt cheated.
Food was very disappointing at its price point, especially considering it is The Grand Hyatt’s flagship restaurant. We ordered a medium rare burger that came out well done and very dry, with a slice of unmelted cheese. It was advertised as a truffle burger with barely a hint of truffle. Their recommended torched salmon roll had the thinnest slice of salmon and was mostly cucumber and carrots - with almost no avocado inside. Food overall was a let down, given we got cheap pub quality food at a $100+ price point. However, the staff and service were great, and it has a nice dining atmosphere.
So to break it down in three parts food service and atmosphere as follows: This menu is everything wrong with copying social media. We ordered based on server recommendations the only item that was good was the hard-shell short rib tacos. The arancini while crispy lacked flavour and the sauce overly acidic. The corn ribs were inedible they just cut them in four pieces and did not remove the core. The lachmajun was dry and cold there was barely a tsp of tahini on the side. The quinoa chicken was so hard my wife almost broke her teeth so she exchanged for barbacoa tacos which were definately not beef cheek and were not smoked just stewed beef. Lastly we ordered a souffle which was definitely not a souffle. I am not certain but it was likely a commercially made product. The service seemed nice although the pace of service did not make sense. Three main issue I take is the recommendations he made and the rush to sell us super expensive water not telling us there were other options. Ambiance was cliche but nice the chairs were not for larger humans but it is manageable.
The hotel and the view are gorgeous but I expected more from a restaurant in a hotel. We ordered a Tomahawk, catch of the day and prawns. Tomahawk was delicious. Catch oh the day which is a grouper, was so fishy and dried. The prawn looks like regular sized shrimps. Just looks like everything shrunk. Pretty disappointed on the food overall. But the service was good.
Over priced, average food. I think the real appeal of this place was the Halal kitchen. My grouper was dry. My husband's filet mignon was not even hot and we waited ages for the mains. My son said the chicken strips he had for lunch at a beach club were better. The cocktails were good but when I ordered wine, my red wine was served in a white wine glass with a pretty small poor. The waiter served my husband's in a red wine glass poured to the same line so for $15 USD, I was underwhelmed there too. We will not be back.
Dinner at The Grill was a rollercoaster—great flavors, but a price tag that left us dizzy. €125 per person for a starter, main, dessert, and one cocktail? In Playa del Carmen... Service? Polite but hurried. We were being nudged to order—because the kitchen was closing. Nothing kills a fine-dining vibe faster than a countdown clock. Was the food good? Sure. Was it worth that much? Not quite. Would we go back? Only if someone else is paying.
Great atmosphere but really not great food. We were expecting to get a grilled chicken breast like we saw online in the pictures but ended up getting some kind of baked with crispy outside chicken that had no flavor with the sides being polenta and asparagus... The polenta was three bites and the asparagus was only the stems as a decoration. The mojito we ordered as well was flavorless until we asked for lime to be put in it when there was originally no lime when that's what a mojito is in the first place? Overpriced but great view over looking the ocean and live guitarist was nice. My boyfriend and I left still hungry and 150$ poorer.
For a 5 star restaurant it was no where close to the hype. Service was way too slow. They took 40 mins to get my drink. Food was average. The servers were highly discriminating towards customers. We went on Valentine’s Day and there wasn’t a special menu for a 5 star restaurant.
— Very disappointing experience and lack of honesty. We made a reservation on their website and canceled two days before the scheduled date. Despite confirming the cancellation, they still attempted to charge €85 to our credit card. There are plenty of other, much more trustworthy restaurants in Playa del Carmen!"
Where do I start...so we saved going here to our last stop for dinner on our vacation we thought it would be a great way to end the trip! Let's start with the server nice guy for sure. My wife ordered a pina colada and let me tell you it tasted like dirty water with a hint of alchohol. Following that the server did exchange it for a diet coke at no cost, starters were the size of my pinky finger and tasted average disappointed. Then we both got burgers, let me tell you, the cajun wedges I ordered were 100% frozen and re heated the burger tasted like nothing, my wife ordered truffle fries and they were cold, long story short the only saving grace of the place was the desert that was good.
Dry and tasteless pool side food chicken fingers we ordered mutiple times on different days were dry and rubbery and chewy, burrito inconsistent flavors multiple times, salads blah!burgers tasteless and always served cold. Poor management. Dinner was mediocre and their largest steak I ordered was 42oz Mexican beef. The roasted vegetables tasted like cooking gas, for the prices you’d think it would be American beef as all other restaurants have American beef.. So disappointed. Dessert was good but I did not come here for desserts. It’s something we just always order. All restaurants here have American Steaks. I choose Platinum and/or Moshe Cube , even the Shabatt Chabad food was better. Such a huge disappointment.
