It is hard to find quality sushi outside of New York City. Stumbled upon Bonsai by accident and I was pleasantly surprised. Fresh, quality fish and generously sliced (salmon sushi). Sushi rice was well seasoned and at the prefect temperature. Reasonably priced as well. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Will definitely go back next time when I’m in the area. P. S. There were public outdoor seatings right outside Bonsais next to a Starbucks. Win win!

This is our go to place for sushi in the area. The service is fast and the food is always fresh. We love the salmon avocado, shrimp tempura roll and spicy salmon avocado sushi. But everything is always super delicious …. the outdoor seating area is perfect on a beautiful day and you can bring your dog along ….. they are super pet friendly. You will be very pleased to see how much love they will show towards your four legged creature.

The sushi was bigger than I’m used to so I ordered way too much, but the rice was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right, and the fish was very fresh. My waiter was extremely attentive and even gave me tableside soy sauce pouring which I’ve never seen before LOL! I will definitely be going back again and again if the quality and service remain as great as this. EDIT: I ate here again today and tried out all nigiri and a salmon skin hand roll. This place is my new favorite sushi restaurant by far in this area. The pieces are like the ones in Japan, HUGE!!! And I can’t stress enough how fresh everything is. Bon appetit!! 🤌

Always a great place for sushi. They have 2 locations and both are consistent. The location in front of the Galleria is bigger but the location near the Starbucks has outside seating.

Great sushi. Not much more to be said there. Staff is very polite and the tables are clean. Only 1 unisex bathroom. Not many tables so be sure to call ahead on weekends. Sake comes out nice and hot. Definitely would come back.

Fast service. The sushi was decent. The Gyoza was excellent. The Shrimp Tempura had way too much tempura and small shrimp. Beer was cold and the waitress was nice. Update: 2nd time here. The sushi was very good.

I’ve ordered the same two items (pictured below) several times over the course of a week, and it has been consistently the same. Bonsai is probably one of the better sushi restaurants in the area.

Yummy food at a great price. Fresh and quickly prepared. Prettily presented. No fancy ambiance. Simple small indoor space for 15-20 people but comfortable outdoor dining is available. Great for families. Good for a casual first-date. Their 2 or 3-roll lunch special is a ridiculous deal. So go before 4:00pm to try for the first time. You’ll definitely be back. Smiles are worth a whole star to me. That’s why there’s one missing. There are now 3 Bonsai locations along Rte 9. I’m reviewing only the original location. Not wheelchair accessible.

Ordered the shumai, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and The Incredible Roll. The shumai was exactly what I was expecting and quite tasty. The rolls were so-so. The shrimp tempura in the two rolls tasted like it had been left in the oil too long. The spicy tuna was just ok.

First time trying this Bonsai today, placed a pick up order. I ordered the chicken tempura rolls, shrimp tempura rolls and rock shrimp. Going by reviews I was expecting more but it's like every other sushi place nothing special. The inside has like 8 tables but there is outside seating with umbrellas outside on the walk path. Now onto the food which was mediocre. For my first time at this Bonsai, I doubt I'll be back. Thanks for reading my review.

Great food bad service. So many special rolls and good quality fish. Unfortunately the moment we sat they only gave us two minutes to look thru a very extensive menu, we ask for more time and only gave us an extra minute, and on top of that my partner felt so rush to order because the waitress kept asking for the menu back WHILE he was ordering, plus we order no avocado and they still brought a roll with it, the problem was that they were more upset about who did it wrong than making it right. no one bother to apologize or anything and the bigger issue is the reason for no avocado was due to food allergies.

The spackenkill plaza roll we got vs the mango shrimp roll. This is the only place we get our sushi from and love it but today was disappointed in how small the roll was.
