La Cocina De Chuy Redding Reviews
All the food we tried was amazing! A little on the more handsy side of eating but that’s expected... would recommend to anyone who like Mexican food
Delicious Mexican fair. Friendly staff. We ordered everything vegetarian and they easily accomodated us. Shares a parking lot with an autobody shop.
This place has really great Mexican food. Of all the Mexican restaurants in town I like this one the Best. They have really great steak fajitas.
Excellent taste of all foods ordered. Service happily presented. Price of food, taste, atmosphere allowed such a great time i'm giving 5 stars.
Top of the line customer service to top it off delicious authentic Mexican food. BEST IN TOWN! I don’t think there another place that can over top this restaurant.
Love this place, my server was amazing and very helpful. The food was delicious. My favorite place to go for Mexican Food in Redding.
I found this place on Google it is the best!!! I had Asada & Carnitas Street Taco aand ogm they are so delicious! The meat was juicy not dry at all! I will come here everytime i come through Redding Ca!
This is an amazing Gem. An hidden place where you will find the amazing flavorful food. The stuffed Colombian areas is something you have to experience! 🙌👍
Best food I've had in a long time. Excellent service and would totally recommend it.
It is a really small place with a pretty extensive menu. Some of their simplest meals are the best. The sopes and rellenos are especially good. Prices are moderate and the folks there are attentive and gracious. A delightful change from chain mexican food.
Fantastic little spot prices are low with big taste. It's hard to find authentic mexican food out here but the lengua and carnitas are absolutely amazing! I have never had carnitas that juicy and the lengua is the beat. But growing up in the southern California and always being in mexico and coming up here and not having anything close to authentic, this place always hits the spot. Also they have horchata that isn't the zucos powder.
great service, amazing food, awesome prices. This place hits it out of the park every time. This is my fiancé And I favorite spot for Mexican and we’ve had just about every other place here in town. Maybe it’s the Venezuelan flair. The arepas are awesome and everyone should try them at least once. Sooooooo good!
My family and I love this restaurant. The food is amazing and very well priced. ❤ And the family that owns and operates this business is always always very friendly and helpful. It is nice to find a family owned small business with good food, great service, and good location.
I've been here a couple times now and the service and food is great. The food is amazing and the pricing is excellent. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a good place to eat.
I love sopes. This is one of the best sopes I've ever had. It was vegetarian with refried beans, sauteed peppers and onions, pico de gallo, sour cream and Cotija cheese. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. And this sope was huge. It had the chewey slightly crisp texture of a thick fresh corn masa tortilla. Delicious! I'll be back.
Update: Taqueria la conquista, formerly La Cocina de Chuy, is under new ownership. Sadly my previous review no longer applies :( The quality/flavor of food is just not on the level I commented about before. I miss the old owners very much. I wish all the best to the new ones, but the restaurant is not the same.// My favorite Mexican restaurant in the whole wide world❤️ The homemade tacos are👌👌 And every dish I’ve ordered has been so full of flavor and happiness. True comfort food. Thank you, La Cocina de Chuy fam, for all you do🙏
Super delicious food! We were impressed with everything we ordered! Friendly service, and decently priced. We will definitely be back!
We were here on vacation fr Ohio and my Mexican friend from southern California said it was authentic Mexican food. It was very good at a reasonable price. I would go again if in the area.
The salsas are my favorite.. Very good service the people are great And location is awesome right on the way to the lake
We’re from out of town and just got done hiking a mountain and when we finally got into town we found this place and it turned out to be one of the best taquerias, the horchata was amazing and all the food is flavorful and delicious the tortillas were homemade and the fish tacos were perfectly seasoned;)
The BEST Mexican food in town. Their homemade tacos are the closest thing I’ve found to homemade Mexican food here in the Redding area. This place doesn’t get enough credit, I recommend the homemade street tacos al pastor!
Best authentic Mexican one can get in Redding. I have tasted a lot of different items and all are beyond satisfactory. Street tacos and Sopes are to die for.
It was very authentic tasting to me,very good and would go back again and take others to also see how good it was. My favorite place to go now for this type of food. Most of the time that's what it is.
The best Latin food in Redding, hands down. Their street tacos are superb, I love their shredded beef. Their arepas are also delicious, try then out!
The food is absolutely DELICIOUS and AMAZING! The best in town!! Service is warm, kind and friendly.
Just grabbed some carne asada tacos to go today, super yummy and great service. Can't wait to come back and try more!
Delicious pupusas. They take a few minutes, but they are so worth the wait.
Amazing food and service! I ordered the taco bar to cater a dinner party for 15 people. The order was ready on time and they even carried it out to my car for me. The tacos were amazing and we got soooo much food. Everyone loved it. I will definitely be back.
I love this place. Very small family owned, great service. They make their own tortillas for the homemade taco, so good. The carnitas is my favorite choice of meat but they have many more. Definitely worth the stop if your in the area and craving some really great Mexican food! I stopped here after clinicals down the street and looked forward to my burrito for the drive home all 12 hours!
the food here is soooooo good & fresh tasting. Best Mexican food in Redding hands down. Also their salsa is great which is always a good note for me haha. The staff is SUPER nice & cool to talk to, they always will make things vegan for us which is so nice of them. Also their bathroom is clean haha. Definitely the place to be. Thank you!
My husband and I come here very often. The restaurant is ran by a nice couple that is always happy to see you. The place is clean, fast and the food is AMAZING. Authentic and reasonably priced. Definitely a great place.
Stopped here on our way to Seattle looking for good authentic Mexican food - it was delicious! We appreciated the covered outdoor seating too. This place is definitely a hidden gem! Come eat here!
I've been to most of the Mexican restaurants in Redding, and this one is above and beyond the rest. From the awesome customer service, clean tables, to the authentic taste, this place is on another level! Price is average, but the amount of food you get is way more than you pay for. The only bad thing is that they don't have tequila for margaritas. They have the wine margaritas instead, which don't have the same kick. Overall, this restaurant is one of the best in Redding, hands down! You will not be disappointed, neither will your pocket book!
We ordered for take out and loved what we got! The chile relleno was super fresh, they had just ran out of the ingredients after we ordered and went to the store for us! Amazing customer centric service and the best Mexican food in Redding! Also loved the sope and picadita, the tortillas were made there and the taste was amazing!
The burritos are life-changing and the staff are awesome and super friendly. Will always stop here if passing through & recommend to everyone
Al Pastor and queso birria are the best in Redding. The owners are so friendly and kind. The salsa and chips are also amazing and complimentary.
Another great, hole in the wall place to get good, authentic Mexican food. Nice couple who own it and work hard to provide great food and service! Mostly open M-F but sometimes on Saturday. Support these folks!
Some of the best nachos I’ve had in a long time and Birriea tacos were the best.
Carnitas & pastor tacos with hand made tortillas are great. Owners and employees are friendly & always make us feel so welcomed. Great Mexican food 💯 recommend LA Cocina De Chuy
my partner and I moved to Redding after growing up in socal. The change in culture has been difficult for us both. We were so excited when we found what is possibly the only good mexican restaurant in redding. they are a sweet family who provide excellent service. the atmosphere is comfortable and calm, and everything I've tasted from here has exceeded my expectations. please try this restaurant if you haven't already. you will have a great experience here.
I order d the carne asada enchiladas and they were very good. They came on a large plate with sides of rice, beans, and a small amount of pico del gallo. Service was quick and pleasant, when I asked for water to drink they left a small pitcher of ice water so that I could get refills as quickly as I wanted. It's a small place, but worth your time to stop by and eat.
This place it's doing it right! I feel like I'm in Mexico or something its so authentic. Redding be greatful you have this place.
The food was delicious! We ordered the Chicken Chimichanga plate with rice and beans and the Al Pastor Taco plate with rice and beans and a horchata. I asked for the beans on the side instead of inside the chimichanga, and also added guacamole with it. This is by far the best spot in Redding for horchata. Their horchata is thicker than most places that serve horchata in town, which is how it should be, maybe even a little thicker and creamy. The customer service was great and both owners were very friendly. It is a small spot, but well worth it. The prices were reasonable as well. Looking forward to visiting again and trying something different.
Hands down by far the best Mexican authentic food in Redding! Small family owned business very friendly owner... literally a whole in the wall type of restaurant. Homemade tortillas topped off the meal!
The staff was so kind and the tacos were delicious! We stopped there on our way from the Redwoods to Tahoe and I'm so glad we did!
First time eating here and I was very impressed by the full real flavor of the food. Next time I'm in town I will be going back. Very friendly waitress and her husband is the cook. Wonderful food, best Mexican flavor in Redding. It's real small, hard to find and parking sucks but the food is to die for.
You won't find authentic Mexican & Venezuelan food THIS GOOD anywhere else in the north state! The cutest little traditional restaurant. The outdoor seating is beautiful, as long as it's not summer! We've been coming here for three years since finding this gem. The owners have hearts of gold and run everything themselves. Give them a try!
I cannot recommend this place enough! The only reason there is no pictures is because my partner and I devoured it too quickly. We ordered a carnitas sope, 2 Queso Birria tacos, and a pupusa with spicy salsa. The sope was stacked high and the tortilla was thick and crispy. The tacos were flavorful with tender meat, and the consommé was delicious. The pupusa was the star of my show, with beans, meat, and tangy peppers making up the filling of a perfectly grilled tortilla. I have also not had a salsa that was more complimentary to its food than this, it added the perfect heat and tang to all the food. We will definitely keep coming back and eat our way through the whole menu. Hope to see you there! Edit: I tried the Birria soup and it’s one of the best things I’ve eaten in my whole life!
I can't believe I haven't left them a review yet. This place is excellent! The family that owns and runs it are extremely nice people. The food is outstanding! I'm lucky enough to live right across the road from this place. I don't go as much as I should but I try to not eat out as much. If you like spicy, he makes a hot sauce/salsa that is just the perfect ammount of heat with AMAZING flavor. I always order extra. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed. Keep in mind that you sometimes may face a wait. Like all good restaurants they sometimes get very busy but this is kind of a "hole in the wall" type place. It's tucked back behind a few buisnesses and it's ran by a short crew. Family and a few other cooks. Don't be discouraged if you're unlucky enough to catch them at a super busy time. It's not like that all the time. Trust me. Having been ordering their food for the last 6+ years I can assure you the family running it works very hard.
Sort of a neighborhood favorite! Authentic food, everything I've tried there is delicious. The staff are hard-working. It is a small and homey venue, so go a little before or after the usual busy mealtimes to avoid the rush. Some outdoor seating. Terrific chef's specials and the michelada is yummy.
Such friendly staff and the food is delicious! I think I’ve found our new local Mexican restaurant. Go try the taco salad if you want to drool!
Most authentic Mexican restaurant in all of Shasta County! I have tried EVER Mexican restaurant in Redding and Shasta Lake and this one is by far the best! I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it!!!!!
Amazing food, great prices and very kind people! We got the carne asada tacos and a massive bean and cheese burrito for cheap that did NOT disappoint. And the outdoor seating is a plus!!
Nice proprietor. Fresh made items. Enjoyed very much. We had empanaditas, huarache, and horchata. All very good. The chips and salsa were good, too. We saw them making Chile rellenos.....looked fantastic.....we will try those next time. Recommend!
Best real authentic food made from scratch. Like going to my mom's house for dinner. Perfect blend of Venezuelan and Mexican food without losing the authenticity of either. We love this place, plus the staff is great, friendly and remember their regulars and their orders 😉
Al Pastor and queso birria are the best in Redding. The owners are so friendly and kind. The salsa and chips are also amazing and complimentary.
This was an accidental find and a definite hidden gem. I stopped for fuel at the adjacent gas station and saw this place and it being lunch time....it all added up. I ordered a regular burrito and I'm so glad that I didn't get the big one. This thing was huge and filled with extremely tasty fillings. My wife got a couple of street tacos and those were overflowing as well. The quality was excellent, the taste was excellent, everything was perfect. If we ever find ourselves on that road in this area again we'll definitely stop in
The food was fabulous! I've never had a chilli relleno THAT grande! It was huge, man!! Machos(super nachos were bomb diggity! My husband ate every bite of his chimichanga! We used Door Dash so we didnt have the pleasure of interacting with staff, however, they added napkins!😝That's so rare nowadays it actually made a huge impression ! Thank you for the wonderful good and great service! We will definitely return!
After just getting into town my first step before picking up the Whiplash Whoopinwacker from old lady Cheeseweasle was to find a good Taqueria, and not just any Taqueria....Taqueria la conquista because they're famous for thier Tacos de pollo grande! I got two of them, and all I can say is... WOW! 5 Stars ☆☆☆☆☆ And now that my breakfast is out of the way I can look for a delicatessen for lunch!
This place is next level. AMAZING food in an awesome little building. The owners and workers are the most friendly you'd ever meet. I can't say enough about this place. I HIGHLY recommend everyone come try the food here!
Tacos are incredible and the owners are lovely. I would suggest to also buy some salsa to bring back home, because it is outstanding. We did and enjoyed it the next day!
Stopped for a quick bite and were very impressed, the carne asana street tacos are delicious! They’re also very kind and hospitable, highly recommend!

Great family owned spot with a great menu and cooked to order as you watch. A but hard to find but great vibe worth it. Carne sopes = tasty! Offers beer too.
When I showed up, they were already closed. The owner came out and asked if I would still like something to eat here and opened up just for me. The food was great, and the owners were super nice. I'll definitely come back here.
These desperate road trip tacos were great and they were incredibly nice. Would definitely stop at again if driving through.
We stopped by to place a quick pickup order before heading home. The service was excellent and the food was prepared very quickly. We purchased two kids cheese quesadilla meals and one carne asada super burrito. Everything had lots of flavor and we will definitely be back.
A warm welcome and good food! I had pupusas and sopes, delish! Took home some homemade flan, also delish! We'll be back soon!
These ladies are so sweet and man can they cook. New owners! Please support this business. Food is very reasonably priced and they use good ingredients. Mexican is by far my favorite and a lot of places in town have gristle instead of asada. Not this place it’s great. Also if you get takeout she hits skip on the tip herself. Love these ladies.

Delightful Mom and Pop restaurant serving Hispanic cuisine with Venezuela flavor. Kind of hard to find. Really nice owners
Nice little place. Great street tacos, good prices. Was 110 outside today, and probably at least 90 in there at lunch! Food was good. I liked the fresh chips and the salsa was OK- I would prefer the chunkier style (Pico De Gallo)
Another good review for another good restaurant in Redding! Their food has a real home cooked kind of authenticity. They put love into their meals. A must try for anybody traveling Eureka Way.
My wife and I eat here a couple of times a month. It is a real family run place, with simple, authentic food. My wife orders mild, i order spicy. The food is better than ANY other Mexican place in town. Prices are pretty good. You'll spend $8 to $ 12 a plate before drinks. And the patio is dog friendly too!
It is a simple menu that is well executed. The drink selection is a bit sparse and the price point is a bit high for the area. I enjoyed my burrito and look forward to seeing how this restaurant grows.
There was no music in the inside or outside dining areas, gentle Mexican music would be bliss here and I love their Shrimp Macho Nacho's are the best!
Service was incredible, the people who work here are fantastic. The food was good, homemade taco shells available. LARGE portions. I wish there was more of a flavour kick tho.

This place would get five stars from me if it could just be a little more on top of things. Tonight I ordered two taco plates one plate having Shredded beef tacos and one plate having 1 Carne asada taco and 1 carnitas taco. Instead we got one plate with two Shredded beef tacos and one plate with two Carne asada tacos. Also one plate had cheese on the beans while the other didn't which is common. Sometimes they put cheese sometimes they don't so you never know. The beans themselves are pretty much always the same, which is not great, but we typically like the rice.although tonight it was very bland. It does seems like every time we eat there something in our order is wrong though. We typically don't complain because it's just a taco and usually they are decent no matter what. But it's a little disappointing when you order something and get something else. Still one of the better places in town but it really has the potential to be so much better.
Good food! However, its a small place, and a little dirty. I hope the owner cleans with a consitant process that benefits the experience. Looking forward to giving them another visit to share an update.
I've only been here once and that's all it really took. The staff was nice(ish) but the food was pretty bland. I had a simple chicken enchilada, and it was so soggy, like it had been made first and forgotten about then reheated. The chicken was super dry, it took forever to chew.
Great tasting, authentic Mexican food. The shrimp fajitas were wonderful, but the super burritos had far too little meat and too much rice and beans. We were comped chips, but I could not believe there was normally a charge. Was also stunned that an extra fee was added to make one of the burritos a wet burrito. The server was friendly and honored a yelp coupon.

Ordered take out. They screwed up the order. We didn't get the pozole. It was very expensive. No napkins or utensils. Will never go back again. Cold food.
Well, what can I say here, to be honest I didn't like the food at all, I'm not from around here, I'm from LA and this "Mexican food" was kinda tasteless, I order a pozole, which to me was bad, didn't have flavor and it was just like 4 little tiny pieces of meat, the pozole it's supposed to be served with cabbage or lettuce on the side, onions and cilantro and of course tostadas or tortillas, no chopped tomatoes inside, i hate tomatoes, and on top of that the pozole was really cold my husband order street tacos the asada was ok, but the carnitas were kinda salty to be honest, and the micheladas need some improvement 😉 , and the poor girl just keeps running back and forth she really really needs extra help so shout out to the owner, that girl need a raise
I was hopeful about lunch here, having read reviews and heard first hand accounts. It has now been crossed off the potential lunch options by myself and my coworkers. Compared to the large amount of quality food available at competing restaurants in the area for the same price, $16 got me a small plate of Chile Colorado, one tiny street taco (which had to be re-requested two times), and a glass of tap water. The Chile Colorado was bland, with no hint of spiciness to it, though cooked well. The taco was very plain, the main flavor being lime, when it had been stated it would be spicy. Coworkers purchased: enchiladas, fajitas, and Chile Poblano. All main dishes were quite small portions, supplemented by modest portions of rice and beans. None were particularly flavorful.
Very disappointed with the service. We were ignored and only one other customer was in the restaurant. The table cloths were dirty (disgusting). We noticed the server cleared the table next to us then proceeded to replace the table cloth by flipping its other side. Perhaps food inspectors should check this place out.
I ordered taquitos, the guacamole was black and the rolled corn tortillas were burnt black, and they served it to me. So old guacamole and burnt shells are ok with them. It was the cook that brought it to our table. I won't be back!
I usually love this place but tonight was terrible. Ordered 2 wet chili Verde burrito with no Pico or onions. It was supposed to have beans and rice in it but it was just a burrito filled with meat and onions, smothered in green sauce with cheese and sourcream. I ordered it over the phone and didn't notice they messed up until I got home. Of course, they were closed by then.
Should update your menu to show current prices. Street tacos are $3.69 now not $2.69. I didn’t even eat so I can’t review the food. Update your menu so people aren’t disappointed before they even order.
Let me just say that I've never written a negative review, ever. I usually only take the time to write a review when it's a good thing. However, I feel obligated to save others from wasting their hard earned money. This food is terrible, plain, no flavor at all. Even for Redding, it's bad. I don't mind paying $11 for a burrito when it's good or even decent but $11 for a burrito that makes Taco Bell seem great? I first ate here a month ago and ordered three breakfast burritos to the tune of $28. They were awful, just awful. I decided to give them another chance today and ordered a Carne Asada burrito and my son got the Seafood burrito. My CA burrito or RICE burrito, as it should be called, had 6 small pieces of Carne Asada, some flavorless beans, no sour cream or cheese as advertised, and lots and lots of flavorless rice. The rice is tinted orange so you wonder how on earth they got it that color when it tastes like plain, boiled rice. The seafood burrito was the same, a lot of rice...not much flavor but the seafood did seem somewhat fresh. It was supposed to have mango salsa but there was none. Save yourself the disappointment and make the trip over to "El Burrito Deliciouso", where you will get a huge, flavorful, delicious burrito full of meat for a few bucks less. Or if you want to eat good Mexican food in the downtown area, go to "La Cabana".
Waitress got every order wrong. A severe lack of meat in the burritos. The rice was under cooked and crunchy....all in all.....not a great dining experience. They need to try a lot harder.
The food is overly priced, no taste in the food, and long service wait. The waitress (owner) complained the whole time about her business. No love in it!!!
Super disappointed with both my orders. I got a tortilla soup and it was honestly horrible and not authentic. The tortillas are the same as the chips and salsa it comes with tomatoes and lettuce in it no avocado of cheese. Also the limes were super dry. Overall I will not be back. The side of tacos was nothing special either. Really wanted to like this place super unfortunate
Just stopped by… Wednesday noon… nobody home. Google hours says they should be open. Disappointing. Oh well, no business for Chuy. Went down the way instead to Taqueria Los Gordos and was not disappointed.
Do not waist your money here! The service is terrible, no one even greets you when you come in. We had to ask if we should sit down or order at counter and the man cooking didn't even look up...just said "yeah, sit down". We got our own menus and waited quite sometime before anyone acknowledged us. The chips were chewy, salsa runny, wet burrito was the worst we've ever had and she never brought us our drinks. Will not come back!!
What a reep-off this was food was tasteless and totally not fresh also over priced......... the fact that there wasn't any customers should have been a hint about this place.... the quality of the food is compatible to poor quality food from a taco wagon.... . I know I've been eating and preparing Mexican food all of my life..... this people have forgotten or perhaps have never known that in order to make good and delicious food you must use fresh ingredients and take pride in your cooking, make it simple....I doubt that this place will remain in business very long..... "Buena suerte" (the guy from Chihuahua)
Took 45 minutes for two tacos and some rolled tacos. Not only was food not good but you could tell meat was couple days old. Never going again would not recommend this place
