Maxwell's Eatery Redding Reviews
Love the place! Great selection on burgers and pizza
Was visiting the area and tried out this place. The young gentleman was super friendly. Food was really good. Fries were amazing! Love that they weren't stingy with the pickles for my burger. lol. Decor was very cool. Loved the paintings. Will definitely go again before we leave town and any time we are in town. Try this place out, you won't be disappointed.
Such a great hide away lunch spot! We were driving through Redding and decided to stop. Happy we did. Excellent service and the food was out to us within about 10 minutes.
We showed up because we were hungry for burgers, but we were blown away by the quality and quantity of what we received! Everything was delicious and plentiful! Definitely my new favorite for American fare. The garlic fries? Come on! Amazing stuff, people. Our leftovers will be another meal that I can't hardly wait to get into. We ordered a Drunken Burger with garlic fries, a French Dip with a salad, a Chicken Philly with onion rings, a burger (that had onion in the name) with fries, and an appetizer of Fried Jalepenos. Like I said, everything was delicious.
Who would have guessed that the most delicious, creative and well cooked pizza in Redding is at a Beer Bar. Seriously, get the pizza.
I have been here twice now. The first time blew me away. BEST PIZZA EVER! The service was outstanding, the beer selection was amazing, and the pizza flavors popped. But this last time, something was missing. The beer selection was so-so, it was hard to get service at first, and my pizza tasted...moist, in a bad way...for lack of a better word. Like moist where it was a bit unpleasant to put it in my mouth. Almost soggy. Granted, this time I got it "to go," whereas the previous time I stayed there and ate. So maybe it went into the cardboard box super hot, and then steamed in its own mist like a sauna. Idk. 🤷🏽♀️ But I was grateful it was half price Thursday so I didn't cry too hard when I threw half of my large away. I will definitely come back if I am ever in the area, and will chalk it up to one bad night, and adjust this review as needed at a later date. In the pics are the brie pizza and the sweet/spicy pizza. Both were a little too sweet for my liking this time, but I think they let you swap out toppings if needed. (The brie is yummy! Just needs more meat added mine had hardly any.)
Incidentally, the Google listing is wrong...they close at 8:00 on Sundays. Popped into Maxwell's at about 7:30 PM on July 27 on account of the Google listing of a 9:00 close (psst...they close at 8 on Sunday, for sure). On learning of their closing earlier than we'd expected, we asked if they were okay with us staying--especially as a large party walked in ahead of us--and they said, "Sure!" I didn't catch the other employees name, but Mikey was an all-star on the bar and pretty much running the show. Sure, there was some grumbling (a second large group came in after the first one), so it was understandable. Were it me, I'd probably have walked out when I was his age. Both of them did a stellar job and we'll be going there the next time we're up towards Redding. Why? The food was also awesome. I had the Big Kid Burger after reading about it in another review, and the burger itself was something like I've never experienced. The combination of flavors was unlike anything I've ever had--on a bun or otherwise. The fries? Gobsmacked me almost off the chair. My wife had the garlic chicken pizza (small) and it was more than she could eat, even after she insisted I eat a slice. FWIW, my wife's a pretty picky eater when it comes to a lot of things and I'm pretty sure her eyes rolled back in her head in ecstasy from the first bite. Awesome food, great service (especially under duress), and a fair price. I could never ask for better. Thanks to Mikey and the young lady (who couldn't help Mikey out one the bar), my wife's first experience with American pub food on our 6th anniversary was a stunning success. But get this straight Google: They close at 8 on Sundays!
The food there is bomb! My wife and I always love there wings, but last time I tried the Big Kid Burger... it was soooo tasty. Our server was super thorough in checking on my wife's dietary restrictions and overall gave us great service. Unfortunately I don't recall his name, but he had long dark hair and glasses. The only downside is it's a bit dark in there.
My husband and I took our almost 1 year old to Maxwell's tonight for dinner. My husband had never been there and I hadn't been in over 10 years. We walked in just after 5 and we had already looked over the menu and knew we wanted EVERYTHING! We started with some wings (not pictured) we did the Sriracha Iime, it was a unique flavor but I can't wait to try the other flavors. Then we found out it was half off pizza night so we ordered a large 1/2 sweet savory pork 1/2 cubano. We came for burgers so we ordered them too! He had the drunken burger and I had the Maxwell. We both upgraded our fries; garlic and bacon and cheddar. The food was amazing! We weren't disappointed! They were pretty busy and our server Mariah was on point! We never waited for our drinks to be filled and she accommodated all of our wishes. We even asked to buy a pint glass to add to our collection and Josh was happy to let us purchase one. 10/10 We'll be back for sure!!
First time here and definitely a lot of PROS! Just a few things if you're going there for the first time. You seat yourself and the bar tenders tend to you! And you can get half and half pizzas! Tugi behind the bar was wonderful and so kind!! He made sure we were well taken care of, because of the 118 degree heat he had waters for us ASAP! And he helped us with food choices! The food is fantastic!! Highly recommend the brie and ham pizza! We tried the balsalmic steak and it was good but nothing to brag about honestly. Steak wasn't highly seasoned and could use more balsamic so I'd give it a 7/10 but the brie and ham was a 9.5/10! We got a medium and the sizes for pizzas are a little on the small side but 2 people can eat off a medium with an appetizer and be full! Just FYI... The taco salad was great too, 8/10! Had pork rinds on it! And the ceaser salad was good! Tugi kept on top of everything and will be returning because of him and the great good! The beer battered Artichoke hearts is the best ones I have had! I love Final draft brewery and always get the fried Artichoke hearts but maxwells beats FD no doubt! Only CON would be that one of the kitchen staff came out from the kitchen and was talking to the bartender, while sticking his hand in his mouth trying to get something out of his teeth?? Then went back into the kitchen, I'm assuming he washed his hands after but maybe he shouldn't do that out in the open? Heaver set kid with top roman bowl perm haircut. Other than that Maxwell is a 9/10!
My wife & I stopped in after going to the Sundial Bridge for lunch, on our way to Klamath Ca. I got the Bacon Avocado Blue cheese burger w/fries. They swapped out the BC for swiss. The patty was seasoned perfectly. It had faint peppercorn taste and some other awesome flavors!! Their fries or soooooo good!! My wife got their Chicken Pesto sammich w/fries. My wife really like the chicken pesto, she said it wasn't too strong of pesto flavor like most places. Definitely stop in if you are close.
Great place even during the afternoon. Was pretty busy but service was great! The food was really good. Really enjoyed the beer selection! Next time I am in Redding I will definitely be back. The pizza is next on my list. Vegie burger, Pastrami sandwich and fried artichokes were soooo so good!
The food was amazing! Chicken tenders were the size of steaks, the bacon cheese fries were COVERED in cheese and bacon- which, most places barely put a tiny handful on top. Everyone's food was delicious and the service was great! My only complaint is it was REALLY dark in there but, it's not a deal breaker with the great food and service! We will be back!
Planned on eating here because we have had the food at catered events and it is INCREDIBLE! Unfortunately the restaurant is a little less to be desired, very dive bar, oddly dark. We went in the afternoon and it was super dark inside, but the light from outside was blaring bright and made for just weird lighting. Would be a great late night eats spot, not exactly a family environment. Staff were super nice and very prompt on service.
Great old town bar that has the feel of local ambiance and easy casual atmosphere. Looks like they are trying to breathe life back into this great local bar!
Five Star beer menu, one star attitude. I want to love this place. Unfortunately, my several experiences range from meh to actually negative, with the latter directly involving the owner. That's probably the reason this place feels unfriendly to me versus being a home away from home. Good Tuesday burger deal. Great pesto fries.
We stopped by to try a new place in redding. We didnt stay. We walked in. It was super dark. Sat down and the table was very dirty. He handed us menus. They were super dirty. No wonder the lights were turn off. The TV was playing but the sound from it was very off putting. It just sounded terrible. We went down the road the brewery and they had tvs going too but it was nice. I cant judge anything else because we walked out. My husband could tell I was not digging it. Lol 😂
We got there at 4:45pm on a Thursday night and ordered quickly. It took until 6:10pm until we got 3/4 of our meals and another 5 minutes to get the 4th. By this time we had to have our food packed up to go, as we had plans for 6:30, which was ridiculous, 80 bucks for a meal none of us got to actually eat at the restaurant! Other people who ordered after us got their food before us. It is utterly ridiculous to take well over an hour to receive food with no communication or apologies. Will never be back.
