Rudy's Pastry Shop Ridgewood Reviews
I had a donut at Rudy's just now that made me believe in god again
My 3 year old and I starting coming on weekends after his music class because of Ms Toni’s welcoming environment. Not all restaurants are toddler friendly! We always enjoy and Ms Toni always takes the time to chat with my little guy, she brings his favorite cupcake herself, and they love to joke together. *My son always asks to return because “Ms Toni loves me.” And as a bonus, the food is amazing. Highly recommend the spinach pockets and breakfast sandwiches but the pistachio biscotti are also pretty amazing.
Amazing little bakery with friendly staff and delicious baked goods.
I visit from Rochester and never miss stopping here. I grew up in Ridgewood, and this place always makes me feel great. Tony treats her customers like gold ✨️ Highly advise stopping here. Thanks Tony!!!Much love and appreciation. The teriamasu is to die for...it's soaked in rum! I had 3 !!!!!!! Different days, of course 😌
The cakes from here are fantastic!! I've been here several times for birthday celebrations!! So worth every penny!!
It doesn’t matter what god you pray to or what you put in your body. You will love this place. And if you don’t than the hell with you.
Absolutely my favorite café and pastry shop in the neighborhood. I love the staff and the treats are delicious!! Our personal favorites are the gluten-free cheesecake, double chocolate cake, pecan clusters, and guava sticks—and a good coffee to go with it. <3 A true local gem!
Came here with my friends every single morning for a week straight while we were travelling to New York from Europe . Has to be the best breakfast food I’ve ever had in my entire life . So delicious , the workers were so lovely and accommodating to us . The cafe feels so cozy and welcoming . I’ve never wrote a review in my life but when I tell people about how amazing New York was I mention this place to them every single time . For a pastry shop , the hot breakfast food is so underrated and is the best in all of New York ,especially the croissants that are big enough to feed two people
I haven't been to Rudy's in years. Felt like home. I forgot the oatmeal and marshmallow cookies. I got cherry cheese strudel and some turnovers. Unreal. My life has changed forever. Im not kidding
Finally Got Em!!! We just moved into the neighborhood, and they have the best croissants! Thanks to Carmen for making great cappuccinos and for her warm, welcoming service Recommend to visit asap
Toni is actively saving every human being cursed by a gluten free life
Amazing slices of Delicious chocolate cake and salted chocolate cake. Ordered so much to take home and bring into my office for Monday. Such worth the trip. Staff is so pleasant and the place is beautiful
Toni helped me with my Moms 90th Birthday. The cake and the desserts were beautiful and delicious. I got so many compliments. She was amazing, I’m so grateful because I ordered everything from Pennsylvania to surprise my Mom in NewYork and she made it so easy. She listened to every detail and delivered. I definitely recommend this place! Amazing service, delicious cakes and pastries. Thank you Toni for everything. When I go to New York I will stop by!
I’ve been here several times and everything I had tried is phenomenal! I’m not even a huge cheesecake fan and the cheesecake was amazing. Everyone is so nice and it’s a great place - you can’t go wrong with anything there!
Best rainbow cookies ever. And I’m from Brooklyn. Toni was just amazing and so kind and sweet. I can’t recommend this place enough. Everything I had was amazing.
Rudy's is an NYC institution! My partner and I fell in love with the chocolate chip cannolis when we lived in Ridgewood and even though we don't live close by anymore, we try to get some any chance we can. The other pastries at Rudy's are delicious as well and there is a huge selection. Definitely miss being able to stop by whenever we want. This place is a true neighborhood gem.
I was led here the other day by multiple online reviews and sites stating that this is a must try, and I agree, it definitely is a must try. I came in for a coffee and I had their breakfast croissant and it was very good. The portion size was generous and their service is top-notch. Seating is plentiful (both indoors and outdoors), service is attentive and kind, and definitely has a local vibe to it. With WiFi that is fast, it is a great place to set up and do a little work with some coffee as well. I have not tried any of the pastries yet; however, I definitely look forward to trying them on my next visit and updating my review.
The best food and customer service! She is the only one open early and knows her customers by name. I love coming in daily for my coffee. Love this place!
This pastry shop is amazing, and the pastries are delicious 😋 and the customer service experience is excellent! I had a strawberry cheesecake that was so rich! I also had a very good late, super hot 🔥. This is going to be another favorite place! Everything we had was very delicious and tasty. We even had a beautiful conversation with the owner or worker from this location.
This is the BEST bakery ever!!! On my Wedding Day, I was able to order a fresh cake and man they are the best! Everyone ravished about their cake and their flavors. Such a chill spot to be at. Feels very family oriented.
unbelievable variety and unfailing dedicated to seasonal window displays
I did a last minute personalized cake order for my friend’s Emo themed birthday party and Christina was so accommodating and patient with helping me figure out how to design the cake! I got red velvet flavor with cream cheese filling and let me tell you not only was the cake absolutely adorable it was DELICIOUS. Ignore the tiny hole around the cake because the picture was taken after we sang happy birthday. I made the order 2 days prior to picking it up so they seem very punctual. I also got a yummy piece of apple crumble cake and raspberry cheese strudel because everything in shop looked too good not to pick something out for a snack later! Can’t wait to come back :)
After 17+ years of living in NYC, I am a bit embarrassed to say it's taken me this long to come to Ridgewood, and Rudy's specifically, but better late than never! Rudy's is an institution in Ridgewood and has been around since about 1934. They started out as a German bakery but do a whole array of different, delicious cakes and pastries. We came in for the cannoli and alfajores. I KNEW this would be a good spot for cannoli once I saw an entire glass case full of UNFILLED cannoli shells. YES, cannolis should be filled to order for freshness and for the shell to stay crisp! We got a large chocolate dipped one, which includes mini chocolate chips in the fresh ricotta filling. It was so delicious and tasted so fresh; the shell was super crisp and definitely perfect! We also got a large alfajor cookie to go. They have a comfortable seating area towards the back of the bakery, and when we sat down to enjoy our cannoli, I was surprised when the owner came by and asked if my 3-year-old would like a mini cupcake piping lesson. She asked if my toddler would prefer vanilla or chocolate. With that, she came over to our table with a chocolate cupcake, a little piping bag already filled with fresh buttercream, a cup of rainbow sprinkles, and a to-go cupcake container. My 3-year-old had her very first cupcake/frosting piping lesson with this very sweet and kind owner. She was ECSTATIC. The owner was so sweet, showing her patiently how to pipe and control the tip, and it was totally on the house! My toddler was in heaven, and this really made her day. I am grateful for the kindness and generosity of the owner; we've never had this type of hospitality in any establishment with my child to date, but this one truly takes the cake (literally)! When we're back in Ridgewood, we will most definitely be back here. I'd also love to come back and try their famous Black Forest cake, which seems to get rave reviews!
Ordered a vegan birthday cake that also needed to be nut free, and Rudy’s were super considerate of the request and the cake was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Everybody at the party LOVED IT and those with nut allergies had absolutely no issues! Truly wonderful quality of product and customer care and service! The whole process of placing the order to getting it was super smooth! Big fan!
We love Rudy's!!! My roommates and I go every weekend to get egg sandwiches and pastries and stock up on little goodies for the week. Toni and all the staff are great. It's hard to choose favorites but the black and white cookie and chocolate fudge cake are amazing. The best part of living in the neighborhood!
Every Saturday I visit my friend John and other friends a block away in Ridgewood and yesterday I went to Rudy’s to buy some sweets for everyone. I even took a photograph with the owner. Her desserts are delicious and she really is a neighborhood treasure.
Amazing pastries, top tier service, and a very homey-feel cafe. Definitely recommend!
The vegan options are tasty! It would be amazing if they had more variety on the vegan side thou!
I'm from Maryland and stayed with a friend in Brooklyn this past weekend. We stopped in Rudy's for breakfast on our way to NJ. Upon walking into the Shop, I immediately felt welcome. The owner was the sweetest lady, and created small chat with me and my friend. When I wanted something that wasn't on the seasonal menu, she came up with a solution to give me a similar alternative. That is prime customer service! She did not need to do that, but went out of her way to make me happy. Reasonably priced given the area it's in. Will be back!
Incredible pastries, and desserts. And even better customer service! One of my favorite places in Queens.
Rudy's Pastry Shop is a delightful cafe to have a lite meal or to grab a sweet treat. On this particular visit I tried the Mozzarella Melt; sliced turkey, sliced tomato and a generous slice of mozzarella melted to perfection! Absolutely delicious! I ended my meal with a cup of coffee and a small cannoli. With its charming interior and extensive pastry menu, Rudy's is definitely a must for anyone wanting have a coffee and a sweet treat.
Best bakery in Queens, probably NY. The cakes are always delicious as well as the pastries. My family has been doing 3D cakes lately which look great, but taste like crap. Like some plastic fondant monstrosity. These cakes also cost hundreds of dollars and taste terrible. Well I said no more!! I don't know if Rudy's does 3D cakes, but every cake made by them is delicious, exactly what cake should be for, a delicious treat. The prices are also excellent, and for the taste i rather pay money to get something that actually taste good, rather than a cake that looks like a Louis Vuitton bag. We purchased a red velvet birthday cake and a slice of Nutella cake, both delicious.
Rudy's is the best. I visit often, not only because their pastries, food, and beverages are amazing but also because I love their friendly staff, quick service, and the overall atmosphere (the seating area is very comfortable, and the music is always great). It really becomes a home away from home in the neighborhood!
Got cake for 50 year anniversary celebration. Hazelnut cream. Very fresh and delicious.thank you
Rudy's is THE bakery of Ridgewood. I've lived here 16 years and only bakery I go to for cakes, pastries- especially for my staff and a hit no matter what I get, breakfast, only place I've found in the neighborhood and trust to get non-dairy, eggless options for my son. Love sitting in the little cafe area to eat my breakfast on a weekend... love the bacon and order the same sandwich, which has been on point every order! Unlike another reviewer remarked, being "refused from using the bathroom", but there is no bathroom! Will keep supporting this neighborhood gem. 90 years strong!
If you find yourself wishing for a nice treat, you should definitely go here.
Another Ridgewood jewel. Selfishly I say, thank God flaky croissants were deemed Essential Services during Covid, I really don’t know what I’d have done :-) This bakery is an excellent business, a good partner in the community, and the creators of all things delectable. I gain a little weight just thinking about the place, and at 9pm it’s closed. Amazing array to choose from, cake, cookies, cannoli, breads, sandwiches (really yummy). To prevent me from going on and on, just visit the place and see for yourself. Lovely staff, always helpful and courteous.
Just tried the vanilla bombolio Declious! Soft fluffy dough filled with creamy goodness 😋 No artificial ingredients here Only real butter and the finest fruit and frosting Pass all the other bakeries and go straight to Rudy's it worth it 👌
We finally came here, eveything looked & smelled amazing! Small seating area in the back helpful & kind staff they gave my nephew an extra jelly doughnut as him being 4 years old, he was delighted !
Swift and kind service. Fantastic selection of sweets and eats. Very yummy. This spot absolutely lives up to the hype
Wonderful staff! Friendly service! Clean place! Delicious deserts (food & coffee)! Punctuality! You name it… Toni, thank you so much for making my girl happy in such a short notice. I called last minute and you made it happen. The cake was beautiful and everybody loved it. I was upset reading some of the reviews but I realize that there are some people who don’t get to be happy no matter how hard you try. Keep going my dear, the neighborhood wouldn’t be the same without you 💜
The best bakery in Ridgewood and the owner Tony is absolutely sweet !!! Everyone who works is hard working and treat all customers like family!!! I remember coming here as a kid and it’s still a favorite place of mine.
I love this place! The cakes are delicious and so are the sandwiches. They have a good rotation of pastries as well. The iced coffees and chair lattes were also really good. There are tables outside and inside. The staff is also great. Great neighborhood spot.
This bakery has been around for a long time and I can see why. It is a big space but it feels warm and inviting. They have a big selection of Pastries to choose from. The service is good and so are the prices. I took home the Chocolate Raspberry Rum Bread Pudding and Linzer Tarts and they were delicious 😋. Lovely Bakery. If I come to this neighborhood again, I would definitely stop by for more goodies
The hot chocolate is incredible as is their triple chocolate slice. Honestly, everything I've tried there is great. Warm and friendly people inside and one of Ridgewood's best kept secrets.
Guys, you HAVE to check this bakery. It feels like home, cozy and they have 109787 de goods to pick. The lady who took my order was extremely nice, we also talked about random stuff, about life, she was so so kind and sweet Omg. I forgot her name but she has like orangish or yellish with black hair color, so pretty btw!!! Omg, thanks guys!
Amazing place. Everything about this place was perfect; display, staff, quality of food. I am a chef, baker and pastry chef; very few places can tickle my fancy when it comes to food. This place is, hands down, the best I've ever tried, and I've traveled a lot. I guarantee you that the taste and quality match the presentation of these pastries. It's good to find a place where you know the quality and taste is so good that you can say ,"Give me whatever", and know that you will not be disappointed. I'm glad I found this place because it just became my go-to for pastries. I live in The Bronx, having to pay a toll to get to and from Queens, NY is totally worth it bevause, Rudy's Pastry Shop, is worth it. Thank you.
Got gluten free cheescake, chocolate cake and flourless cake for family members. It was so good! We are used to high quality home baking but were still really impressed
This bakery has been there for over 90 years. They have a small space for sitting down and enjoying cakes, sandwiches, cookies, coffee. I bought a lot of cookies for the holidays, the ladies behind the counter were so kind and were very clear about nuts and nut allergies. They wished my daughter a happy birthday and gave her a free cake pop. My son was there and the sweet lady behind the counter also gave him one, so that he wouldn’t be left out. I hope this bakery is here for at least another 90 years.
Ordered a custom birthday cake from here and was absolutely blown away! Not only did it look fantastic -- it was also incredibly delicious. I was so excited with the final result and everyone at my party complimented the amazing cake. Shout out to Toni for making the process so fun and making my vision a delicious reality.
Stopped in today and asked the woman behind the counter if the cannolis were “decent.” She hits me with the most Brooklyn stare imaginable and goes: “Decent?! I’ve been in business 91 years. You think people would still be coming here if my cannolis were decent? These are the best cannolis you’ve ever had — you’ll be coming back for these cannolis.” Then she tells me she doesn’t put chocolate chips on them — and still walks to the back to grab the chocolate chips just for me. Top tier hospitality. Cannoli itself? Perfect shell, perfect filling, zero gimmicks. She was absolutely right, truly the best cannolis I’ve had to date. If you are in the area do not pass this up.
What can you say about a staple of the community. Everything made is to perfection. Staff friendly, helpful and professional. The owner Toni goes out of her way to get to know her customers and to know what they like. She keeps her beloved bakery items that families keep going back for but at the same times she adds to her menu options that she feels some of her new and old customers may want. If you haven't been to Rudy's you need to go especially for her holiday pies.
I ordered a cake from Rudy’s Pastry Shop for my son’s 2nd birthday, and it was absolutely perfect! From start to finish, they were timely, professional, and a pleasure to work with. The cake itself was a chocolate chip cake with chocolate pudding filling—and it was delicious! Everyone at the party loved it. I’m so glad I chose Rudy’s, and I’ll absolutely be trusting them with all my cakes for future events. Highly recommend!
Rudy’s isn’t a bakery—it’s a frosted cream dream. The cannoli are so fresh they might still be alive, and the cakes? Baroque masterpieces meant for godmothers and baptisms. Ridgewood royalty runs the counter, smiling like they know your secrets. Bring a cake to your next party or face eternal shame, and huge gratitude to all the Ridgewood Queens working hard behind the counter for 9 decades!
We needed a delicious custom gluten free cake for our small wedding and Rudy's delivered and then some. We were able to do a cake tasting with red velvet, vanilla and rainbow cake along with different buttercreams, fruit fillings and cannoli cream. We ended up with a red velvet cake with strawberry and cannoli cream filling and vanilla buttercream. Not only did most of the guests not realize it was GF but they all thouyght it was absolutely delicious! The owners were so nice throughout the process and make sure the cake and the design was exactly what we were looking for. Definitely recommend and would order again!
So welcoming and delicious!! While doing some research I saw some reviews on YouTube, so we decide to step in. So glad we did as everyone was friendly and the sweets were delicious. Toni was great, sharing stories and explaining their offering. The cannolis were delicious and so is everything else.. cozy spot to stop, have a cup of coffee, have a sweet and chill.
I went for a morning walk to explore my new neighborhood more. In the past, I've known exactly where I'm going in Ridgewood but never just spent time to explore. I came across this gem that's been a part of the community 90 years. I found out about the history from the amazing and inspiring Toni. The egg and cheese croissant was great. It wasn't greasy like other spots. Yes, they have breakfast options! Not just sweets. The dirty Chai was great. I loved the energy in the bakery. It felt they've built a really good community setting that I'm happy to go back to with my daughter.
Baked and made to perfection. The pastries here are delicious and have a neat, structured presentation. I had the red velvet cupcake and it was a minor religious experience. Lol. The richnes of the flavor and texture was amazing. It was soft, chocolately, lemony, cream cheesey perfection. I love that the staff is very attentive and patient. Would 100% recommend! Run to this place!
The pastries is good. I took many things for my family and I tried many of it. The one that I enjoyed most was a yellow cake with pineapple filling and a white cream over the cake with coconut flakes on it. What they should do a traditional brownie with walnuts because that wasn't there. I would go again because the atmosphere was very pleasant. Didn't stay to eat and so I don't know if they have a bathroom or if its clean or not. Tables and everything was clean though.
Rudy's has been a beloved fixture in the neighborhood for as long as I can remember, dating back to my childhood. This charming spot offers an impressive selection of cupcakes and cake slices, along with delicious breakfast sandwiches and freshly brewed coffee. They truly do it all!
Real good cake. Everything looks amazing. I like how the place as an old school vibe to it; modern bakeries are lovely but I am attach to nostalgia bakeries like this one. I have been exploring Queens, and glad I took the short trip to visit. Very friendly service and seems to have a loyal following. Customers went in knowing exactly what they wanted and even chit chatting with who appears to be the head baker owner. Customers were all so kind as I am very indecisive, bad for times like these. I forgot to take a picture prior to separating all the pastries. Their linzar tart, apple turnover and blueberries strudels. Cake is all mine, one of the best coconut pineapple. Everyone is loving theirs too. Pastries were not too sweet. Will return hopefully next time we be ok to sit inside like it use to be..
When we walked by Rudy’s Bakery and Cafe, we were impressed by the crowd outside with appealing desserts on each outdoor dining table so we decided to give it a try. There is no indoor dining available currently with limited outdoor seating. I think most people do take-out orders, so the wait wasn’t too bad. The decor looks humble and narrow-spaced with dark lighting. We had a piece of Napoleon which was recommended by the staff and a cup of Tiramisu from their various line-up. Both desserts were not the best we have ever had but pretty decent with its price.
Cakes are very expensive and not worth the money, the red velvet had a very little filling inside, almost like nothing, and even not that good or fresh. The smallest cake is $35!! plus charges from the card or so, so the total was $37. We’ve been carrying this tradition for years to go to Rudy,s for our birthdays, but probably it’s about to change:(( just not worth the price and i feel like cheated by them!! Thanks Rudy,s for that last ,,special,, treat for my birthday!
This would have been a five star review - but the women behind the counter were not the friendliest or most welcoming & it felt a tad bit like they didn’t want to talk to us.. My wife & I were the only ones when we walked in. We didn’t know where you had to place/ pick up an order so we stood by one register where a lady was making coffee & the other lady just looked at us. No greeting. Nothing. Another customer walks in, and she was greeted instantly & started to place an order... I literally interjected & said hey, I’m here for a pick up. Then the other woman decided to help us. We ordered a 6 inch red velvet cake, a half pound of Rainbow Cookies, and a slice of Oreo Cake. Red Velvet - It was moist, not too sweet, and delicious. Rainbow Cookies - Perfect amount of sweetness, soft, and delicious. Oreo Slice - TASTED LIKE AN OREO!! Like I said, the way the staff treated us made this a negative experience. I will give them another try & see how it goes. I don’t appreciate rude service & especially when it feels like they didn’t want to even speak to you because of how you look.... Parking is ok in this area. Can get busy.
The pastries are delicious sure, but the attitude sucks. There’s one girl in particular who just gives you this cold standoffish vibe. It felt like all my questions were a problem for her & dare I not add an extra item to my order or I’d receive this sort of annoyed glare from her. Really need to consider hiring new staff because it looks like someone 3 months ago had the same issue & this has not been my first time coming into this establishment and experiencing this “Just order & get out.” mood.
Unfortunately, all slices of cake ordered (hazelnut, pineapple coconut and cheesecake) were all extremely stale. The cakes had zero moisture and felt as though they were old, or left out for quite some time. The napolean was very hard and not edible. Despite other reviews, I would neither recommend nor return to this bakery.
I ordered from here because it was the only place that has German butter cake well it was inedible. Dry and has no glaze on top. Napoleons weren’t good either. Cannolis were good though. And super rude on the phone when I called to see if my order was ready. Definitely won’t be going back.
My niece (3 year old) had to use the restroom and they refused. Told us we had to use the restroom next door at a restaurant we did not purchase anything from. The servers at the nextdoor restaurant were super nice and allowed her to use the restroom.
The owner/Baker was super rude. I told them what type of cake I wanted for my Up coming Birthday and they literally ruined the entire experience 😭 my mind was set on a cake from the outside view and took all my joy away. I thought good costumer service was a thing ? Perhaps not. Thankfully I won’t ever be the one to step foot there again.
The staff was very rude to me I guess that's why they call it Rudy's. The food is mid, honestly better off going to Normas for breakfast. The bakery is mid as well, the one thing it's got going for it is large portions but otherwise it's diner quality. Save yourself some time and money
Everything is usually great here, which is why I was shocked by this experience. I ordered a birthday cake a few days in advance, only to find it stored in the front fridge—where anyone could have opened it or touched it. When I asked why it was left out like that, the staff had no answer and took it to the back to “fix” it. They did manage to smooth out the visible fingerprint, but when I got home and cut into it, the cake was very dry and didn’t taste fresh at all. I’m now left wondering how long it had been sitting out. Really disappointed, especially considering how reliable this place has been in the past. *REPLY When I picked up the cake, the person behind the counter told me, in her own words, that “a kid must have put his finger on it.” There was no mention of something falling on it at the time. I also did not see the owner take the cake to the back—only the counter staff did. From what I could tell, the cake was simply touched up, not remade. It was a birthday cake, and unfortunately, the person it was for was disappointed and didn’t want to return it—they were upset and felt the moment had already been ruined. Once we cut into it, the cake was very dry and didn’t taste fresh, which added to the letdown. It honestly felt like it had been sitting out for a while.
This is according to the owner a black forest cake as a warning for other people. The owner was incredibly rude, tried quizzing me about what a black forest cake is and didn't apologize once. The photos below is what my "cake" was. Which is 90% frosting and 10% sponge inside. This was 43 dollars! I'm never returning to this place again!
