Soho Ramen Riverside Reviews
Great food and great portions! Very fresh. I'm glad we tried them and will be back. If you don't want to wait then order ahead. Everything really does appear to be made fresh to order (delicious), and there is nowhere to sit in inside, but that is out of their control. They are situated in the food lab and with covid, seating is outside. Hopefully that will change coming soon!
This place has had a profound impact on me. My boyfriend and I got the vegan bao buns and vegan ramen. It was so delicious the only way I can describe it is like when you see a cartoon character eating something and you think wow that looks like it would taste so good I wish I could try it. This is the real life version of how satisfying you think that cartoon food would be. The wait is long but it’s worth it just order ahead.
Soho Ramen is absolutely delicious. We think that it’s been getting bad reviews for no reason we can can understand. We love their Ramen and bento boxes. Our family loves to nosh on their lovely meals and everything there is so cute 10 out of 10 would recommend.
Delicious food, great portions, nice staff, and good price. Recommend the Chashu Pork Ramen - Tonkotsu. Really good and I like that it came with toppings included (including some soft boiled egg and more) without having to pay extra for each topping like other places do.
I got the Spicy Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen. The noodles, meat, and broth were all cooked to perfection and very tasty. The employee at the register was friendly and my food was ready after 10 minutes. The ramen was $15, but it was definitely worth the price. I would go again.
I would say when compared to Saku Ramen. Soho Ramen wins in authenticity, presentation, and generosity of portion. I had their Tonkotsu broth ramen with breaded chicken and a generous portion of rice noodles even for Japanese standards. The added spinach was a nice nutritional touch that I appreciated. Some may find the garlic overpowering but I had the spicy version which balanced it out nicely. Pro tip. If you do go spicy a Calpico drink will give you a nice cooling effect if things get too spicy.
My son was craving some authentic ramen, we were visiting down town Riverside and found this little place inside FoodLab, amazing! Since it was our first time ordering it took time to know what to choose, but when the receptionist got our order he was kind enough to review it with us and make the adjustments needed for a kid and adult. It was not only right, it was perfect! We would definite go back to this place and try something different.

I love this place, every time I'm here I get takoyaki at a minimum. It will complement food from almost any other place here. The ramen is good as well, but the takoyaki shines bright.

Overall, the food was acceptable, though there was a noticeable delay after ordering, and some dishes were slightly salty. Despite this, the food was generally good.

Good food but not sure it was worth waiting over 25 minutes for it... Everyone has their food from other restaurants before me and we're mostly done eating. I understand good food is worth the wait... But it is so up like a cool food truck but with the wait of a sit down restaurant. If your willing to wait for ramen, it could be worth it for you.
i appreciate how large their menu is and how many vegan options they have but the wait time is ridiculous. it took 30 min for 1 ramen and 1 bao with only 1-2 customers ahead of us. i see other people have complained about the same thing so just be prepared for a long wait if you order here.
Food was ok. Tempura was so so. The shrimp cheese balls were really good. Workers left everything to be desired. They were more interested in talking to their friends that were visiting them than acknowledging me. My food was taking a while (finished over 20 minutes after I ordered) and I kept waiting near the counter but they didn’t speak to me at all. Good thing they don’t actually take your order because you place it on a self serve kiosk. They could improve a lot by retraining their employees.

I ordered the rice noodle with spicy tonkotsu sauce and extra onion with fried tofu as a side. Order was made at a kiosk and took 15 minutes to be prepared. The menu has a large vegan selection but the prices can vary between $10-25 for a dish, depending on the meat/meat substitutes used. The ramen broth was spicy and smooth but lacked any real depth of flavor. Fried tofu was good with dipping sauce but not particularly noteworthy. I wish I had looked at the reviews before ordering.
Cleanliness not there. I waited over 25 minutes for my food at these dirty tables they haven’t cleaned it in a while bc the sauce was drying up. I could see my food just sitting there for a while waiting to get bagged up & when I went to get it & give the girl the buzzer she put my drink down on the counter away from where I was standing like you couldn’t just hand me my drink & food? Food ok , my first time at the food lab & the other places looked good probably should’ve read the reviews
Customer service was great, food was not. The lady working there was really nice, but our food had very little protein and way too much rice. We ordered the chicken curry which the curry was too salty for our taste. Same with the Teriyaki salmon. We didn't wait for too long.
First of all, the menu is bilingual with /chinese/ for ラーメン. Big red flag. Yeah, I get that ramen is originally based on chinese-style noodles, but it is from Japan and arguably the national dish of that country. Anyways. The bowl was out quickly enough, about 10 minutes. Strangely, the menu gave me the option to order Dine-In or Take-out, and although I chose Dine-In, my food came out packed to go. The noodles had no bite, in fact, they were mushy. You can see the egg is overcooked. Spicy miso was spicer than I'm used to, potentially to cover up the lack of any distinctive flavor. Too much raw white onion (green was fine). Scarcely edible. Never again. Loved watching One Piece in the hall while I ate, but I'll be hitting up a different restaurant next time I'm at the Food Lab.
SoHo ramen is one of many food spots located at the Food Lab Riverside. Here for an anime convention, this 12 seated counter spot( can fit 12 but only has 7 seats) has a selection of ramen, rice noodles, bento and more. I got the Tonkotsu charshu pork ramen(standard basic ramen I review at all ramen spots). Broth felt a bit watered down, not as creamy. Simple egg, noodles wasn't hot, the charshu was steamed, less charred but above average. Too much bamboo shoots and spinach was okay. It's not really a family style spot, they make everything in a to go. Gotta ask for chopsticks as well. I don't know why you would give out untensils for ramen, when everyone was asking for it. First ramen spot out of the San Diego area and even thought it's fulfilling, I'm guessing SoHo main business would be the bento boxes. Nice art around the SoHo sign though. Glad to try just for lunch. Maybe there might e another ramen spot around? Idk, back to SD for now. Arigato Gozimasu.

I’ve always loved Soho Ramen for their vegan and vegetarian options. As someone who relies on delivery, they’ve been a dependable go-to for years. But lately, the quality and care have really gone downhill. Today I ordered the Omin Fish Curry Udon, which is supposed to be vegan. Instead, I received the dish made with real fish. No warning, no message, no option to cancel or get a refund. I’m vegetarian and now stuck with a meal I can’t eat. If an ingredient isn’t available, the staff should reach out to the customer or issue a refund. Swapping in animal products without consent is not okay, especially for people with dietary restrictions. I hope Soho Ramen takes this seriously and improves how they handle online orders. I’d love to trust them again, but right now I’m really disappointed.
Ordered breaded pork ramen with miso broth and steamed pork buns. The miso was too salty to drink, the ramen itself felt no different from instant ramen, and the pork buns are the same exact ones that Trader Joe's has. The breaded pork was fine though. But overall an absolute ripoff.

I probably should have checked the reviews before coming on Saturday 7/19 around 4:30pm. I ordered a bento box for my daughter and it took over 40 mins to get! Mind you, it was not that busy. When I asked for an update around 5pm, the cashiers were in disbelief about how long we have been waiting. I guess they had a shift change from morning to night crew and the morning crew just didn’t care to work for their last few minutes there. The second shift crew seemed nice and complained how lazy the first crew was. After 5 mins, we got our meal but at this point, i shared a meal from Monty’s burgers and my daughter didn’t really care for the food. This establishment needs to work on hiring better staff. Last time ordering here. You’re better off eating anywhere else in the riverside food lab, unless you want to wait forever for your food and be disappointed.
If I could give zero stars I would! First of all the service was absolutely horrible. I walked up and asked for a description of the tonkotsu ramen because the menu on top of them didn’t have anything but the name. She rudely just pointed to the menu that was on the counter and as I was reading it she walked away to have a seat and when i was ready I looked up, we made eye contact and she remained seated. Another girl came up and asked if I was ready and i said yes and I have her my order, she was rude too and just didn’t have good customer service. ALSO, while I was waiting for my food the first girl was just scratching her hair and picking at it the whole time it was disgusting!!! To top it all off the ramen was so mid I’d never come back here or recommend it to anyone.
If the ramen tasted the way it did on PURPOSE, it would have been pretty good. I got the tonkatsu ramen last night, and the broth tasted like fish. I liked the flavor, but beef or chicken broth isn't supposed to taste like that. The pork belly was bland and tasteless, it was like chewing on a piece of rubber. The eggs were really good, and I could have eaten them all night. This morning I am having stomach issues, so I am thinking that the fish flavored beef and chicken broth may be the culprit. $17 fir a bowl of ramen that made me sick is overpriced.
Waited over an hour for food and eventually had to get a refund because they still hadn't started cooking it. Staff was rude the entire time.
Ordered Bao Bun and Thai Tea, it’s took way too long to make and after 30 minutes of waiting we’re denied a refund, so it looks like we’re stuck here waiting.
I ordered the chicken yakisoba noodles through DoorDash delivery so I can’t speak to the service but the food made me sick. The portions were good but I couldn’t take more than 3 bites before I tasted that something was off about it. I felt nauseous not long after eating it and threw up a few hours later and that is the only thing I ate that I did not prepare myself (for context the only other meal I had was plain avocado toast and some fruit which is my usual breakfast). I had ordered this for lunch but after a few small bites I could tell something was off about it and I ended up throwing away most of it. It was my first and only time trying this place out.
Came to the Christmas lights in riverside with a group of friends, walking about ended up in this restaurants area, after looking around decided to take a to go order for mom she wanted the shrimp fried rice, line was 2 people waiting to order they seemed annoyed of waiting but mom wanted shrimp f.r no worries waiting waiting, the lady behind the counter was abit rude to the girls in front took the order they go off, guy who was next walks up she literally walked away as the poor guy was ordering some older worker dude took his order 3 minutes later, i waited finally told them my order, waited 20+ for that to go to be ready. Long story short mom said rice was dry and not very good at all, when i told her the price she said that’s insane🤣 well it is what it is. 1 of the worst food spots I’ve had the disappointing chance to waste $ at. sincerely just don’t waste your money or more importantly TIME waiting for rude bad food service.
I tried ordering Chicken curry, the cashier was like "Oh we have a chicken bento" and I said sure, assuming it had curry in it, and it didn't. I tried asking for some curry because she misled me and she admitted she messed up, but was still very rude and refused to help because she didn't want to get in trouble. The bento wasn't even a real bento, the chicken is a crappy chicken tender and not close to any Japanese recipe. The vegetables were sad and dabbed with an unnecessary sauce, and the gyoza was poorly cooked. I love and cook Japanese food all the time, and you would get better Japanese food from Trader Joe's than here. Every time I go the cashier never knows the menu. It's overpriced and a genuine waste of money.
It's hard to compliment this place. Food took really long. Unreasonably long. Several other guests wanted refunds and started shouting at the cashier. She was really nice and patient, but it seems management has not given her the tools to refund guests or do her job, so it made the experience doubly uncomfortable. When it finally came, beef skewers were dry and tasted microwaved, ramen was nothing to write home about, fried chicken was dry, tasteless, and chewy, also seemed reheated.
I was very disappointed with my order. I was excited to get the food. I have come several times to eat there and every time it was good. This time however, I ordered to go and I live 30 mins away. I got home to find that more than 50% of my beef in my beef bowl was fat. I thought this would be rectified when I called SoHo Ramen to tell them how unsatisfied I was this time. Instead I got excuses and I was flat out told there will be nothing done about my bad experience. No refund, no new bowl when I’m in the area next (all suggestions I gave). But I was met with more no’s. This is very disappointing. I now feel like I can't come back here in good conscience after being treated in this way as a paying customer.
don't come here during conferences, didn't receive food after waiting a whole hour
Came in the day before Thanksgiving and got a calamari bento meal and got food poisoning. Spent all Thanksgiving puking and sleeping. This meal was the only one my wife and I didn’t share so that’s how I was able to determine it was this restaurant. Staff all looked really young so it may have been inexperience.
This place sucked. I ordered the salmon teriyaki box. The soup was absolutely flavorless like water and the salmon tasted like smoked lox dipped in sugar gel. I generously asked for a partial refund because I had choked down the soup and was willing to be fair about that. The owner refused and insisted I order something else. I reluctantly ordered shrimp fried rice. He refused to make that because he said the price of shrimp (and salmon) were high. Frankly I didn't want another dish because if they messed up my first order, they'd more than likely mess up the next. I tried to sympathize with him saying I understand inventory costs. I pleaded again for a refund. He demanded that I get chicken fried rice instead. I politely told him that I wanted seafood, that's why I orders salmon. He refused again. I said "well look, either I get a refund or you can make me something I want". He stewed a while while a line formed. He eventually huffed and puffed and made another dish. Skip this spot.
This was my second try. Both times were Horrible. The first time, my bento box order took forever. Today, I ordered ramen to go and they are thee onlyyyy restaurant to package the broth with the noodles. Once I got to my hotel, the noodles soaked all the broth up and my food was soggy. The meat was dry and portion was extremely small. The service wasn’t excellent either. They just act so lost and non-chalant! Switch them out! They make tge establishment look bad.
Wouldn’t revisit. I got a roasted eel bowl which comes with broccoli. There’s literally 6 small bites of eel with 2 broccoli florets. The rice portion is 3/4 of a to-go container. I feel like I’m paying mainly for the rice. Eel tastes fine but it’s just bad value for money.
Honestly? The food was mid, got an order of “Chashu Pork Bowl” but it’s in a plastic container. It’s like I ordered rice with a side of chashu pork… it took more than 30 minutes to get our order… my friend finished his shawarma he ordered from the next door store, my other female friend ordered a shawarma plate, got her order, and finished it… waaaayyyy before we even got our order. And then it looked underwhelming when we got it. Also, my friend who ordered ramen wasn’t satisfied either. Overall, would not go back to this establishment. I’m usually not that strict when it comes to my food, as long as the portion is the right amount. Both food and service was disappointing.
This is worse then instant ramen made in a microwave....not recommended. Dumped mine in the trash, goza was rubbery and fell like it had been nuked too.
The food here is literally like the picture I took. I don’t often call food trash but here we go. I got the bbq eel bento and I can say it is the worst bento I have had. Just a small portion of unagi for the worst and driest tasting rice. No flavour. The boiled veggies were so soft with a terrible sauce. The Wakame salad was brutal, side of soup is zero taste. Lowest standard they have for serving Asian food and they charge you $16.95 before tax. My gf bought the pork teriyaki bento and it was the worse. We threw most of it away. Don’t come here!
Bulgogi bowl was horrible. Over seasoned completely shredded and hard to find with in the bowl. I had to mix it in with the rice to try and make it work so that it could be half way decent but it just didn’t work. I tried I really did but I couldn’t finish it. I threw it away and ordered from a different place. Never again
Got beef bulgogi bowl. Tiniest pieces of bulgogi I’ve ever had, both in USA and in South Korea. And very little meat. Taste is alright but wayyyy too pricey for such a tiny portion.
I ordered the taro milk tea and the Thai Beef Lettuce Wraps. The tea had no flavor and the lettuce wraps are easily the worst thing I've had at the food lab. For $10 the meat looked unappetizing, it was hard, dry and had no flavor. I waited 40 minutes for this food and I wish that I canceled my order when I first thought about it. It's sad because I normally like this place but I cant see myself giving them money again for a long time.

DON'T COME HERE!!!!!!!! This place was genuinely horrible. My girlfriend made the mistake of coming here recently. We waited for over 40 minutes for two chicken bowls. So we went up to the register to ask for a refund, and the girl who worked there ignored us. We tried calling her over, but she kept ignoring us. Finally, she came over, and we requested a refund. She rolled her eyes and slammed the food onto a cart. I understand that they are understaffed, but her attitude wasn't necessary. She then called her manager, and his attitude was worse. He was so rude and slammed the refund receipt on the counter; he acted like a child and ignored us when we told him we had a separate order with two bottled drinks. If you don't like what you do, then be miserable elsewhere. Also, as we waited for the manager, they were conducting a food inspection, which we assume was prompted by the roaches that other customers had claimed to have seen the week before. 0/5 stars.
I ordered a basic black garlic tonkotsu ramen with chashu pork, and it was honestly the blandest ramen I've ever had. The green onions were mushy, the meat seemed microwaved, and the broth was watery and insubstantial. I also ordered some pork bao, and it was awful. The bun fell apart as i picked it up and was clearly microwaved, not steamed. There were two overly thick slices of cucumber, some almost brown wilted cilantro (why would you put cilantro on this??), and heaping oversweet duck sauce as a feeble attempt to mask the gooey bland pork. The final thing i ordered was a 7 dollar seaweed salad, which came with maybe a quarter cup of seaweed at most, which was incredibly sugary and bland. it tasted like corn syrup. I had to wait almost half an hour for this clearly premade and microwaved meal, and then the owner fought back against my refund. the employee was helpful and apologetic, but their boss was rude. I've had better noodles from a top ramen packet. there are much better options at the food lab.
This was easily the worst ramen I have ever had. I got the chicken ramen and the chicken was so dry. I got the spicy base and that was okay but nothing special or spicy about it. My friend got the creamy base and it was actually horrible. Tasted like oily chicken noodle soup. Maybe their other dishes are okay but the ramen is horrible.
