Brettingtons Rochester Reviews
All good! We had the lobster mac n cheese (needed a little seasoning, but still good) 2 sirloin steaks 1 blue cheese sauce and 1 mushroom sauce. The blue cheese was the better but both good. Also shared a 1/2 lobster 😋 then white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake for afters! Stuffed! 1 glass of red and a bottle of Pinot excellent. Friendly chat with the staff
Had a lovely meal in the restaurant with family 5 for a special occasion. The foods were brilliant display and taste delicious, specially in steak and lobster, the prices were good with the quality foods we got. Definitely be back again. Thanks for your attentive customers service. We had a great time!
Incredible food! We drove 45 minutes to visit the restaurant for my birthday and we were not disappointed! If you love steak then you have to visit. Their tomahawk was 10/10. Service was also incredible thanks to Klodian! He helped us pick and gave some really great advice on everything from the menu. Even the way you are greeted at the door is warm and welcoming. Would most certainly be back.
The food was delicious and the service was spot on. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, I felt very relaxed. This is my new favourite place to visit if I fancy a good steak.
Visited for dinner on Saturday night. Food was fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We opted for three courses and each course did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend and will be returning for a meal soon!
Fabulous experience from start to finish. Max, our waiter was helpful and knowledgeable. He gave us details of changes on the menu, and all interactions were polite, positive, and friendly. The food was amazing. It was hot, nicely seasoned, and presented really nicely. Really great portion sizes, well worth the visit.
Booked dinner to celebrate my partner's 40th birthday, and could not have been any more pleased. The food was amazing... the service exceptionally quick... lovely atmosphere all round. Thank you so much to all the staff this evening!
Went here for a date night and had a great time. The food was amazing and the drinks were more than affordable. The staff gave great service, we’ll definitely be coming back. The Confit Pork Belly and the Lobster Thermador were the stars of the show. The Thai Prawns were cooked perfectly.
This is our love at first sight 🤩 We're really enjoy all of them even fries or peppercorn sauce. Also the steak is very amazing. Yummy 😋
From booking the table, to eating the food was a great experience. The Food was amazing and the kids portions were just as good. Lovely touch for my eldest daughter as it was her birthday to get a gluten free dessert with a candle. Thoroughly recommend the sirloin steak and lobster 🦞.
The weekday set lunch menu (12-5pm) was great value for money 👐🏻 we ordered the fried squid and Thai prawns for starters, and steak for mains. The starters tasted amazing, and the steak was well cooked. We should be back and try the other dishes later!
Really nice place. I went for my aunt's birthday the service was great really friendly. The food was lovely they have a set menu which is reasonable priced potions sizes definitely good for your money. Overall lovely place to visit if you're in Rochester.
If anyone wants to learn customer service skills go here! It was text book here On arrival the lady checked us in an told about the COVID rules and which we as a happy anniversary (nice) we were shown to our seats and then introduced the guy that would be serving us that evening and he then wished us a happy anniversary (nice touch again) and had a glass of bubbly given which was really nice 👍🏼 The food arrived in a good time (not to fast and not to slow) and it was amazing I had steak and half lobster 🦞 and my wife had a whole lobster 🦞 we couldn’t have been happier. We also asked for some cocktails that were not on the menu but the staff were happy to make them!! They were also great All in all a really great evening with some very nice staff, and will definitely do make! Keep up the hard work everyone
Came here for a birthday lunch on Saturday and the staff were brilliant, so friendly and great with the recommendations. Cocktails were beautiful and the food was just perfect. Wish we'd had room for dessert!
Huge variety on the menu making it very difficult to decide what to have! Pricey but worth every penny. Definitely a must go to if you love steak but still plenty of choices for if it's not your preference. Vast drinks menu too including cocktails which always go down a treat. Was my second time here and will definitely be back again for a special treat night out!
Wonderful food! The Lobster Mac and Cheese.. INSANE!!!
As always, top drawer... Doesn't matter whether I'm popping in on my own for a quick main course after football on a Saturday, or whether I'm in company - the warmth of the welcome from Ruta and her team is only matched by the quality of the food. - the two course lunch menu is extremely good value.
Another hot spot to dine in Rochester. Lovely welcome at the door. Very attentive staff and all were wearing a smile on our visit. Gorgeous and delicious food. A variety of drinks are served here. The pricing is fair , you just have to know what you want. I will be going back for more.
We made a booking at Brettingtons last minute for New Years Eve and are glad we did, the food is phenomenal. The dining area itself is very cosy and clean, the staff were very attentive, even giving us hats to wear before midnight! The set menu for the event was absolutely out of this world and we were surprised the only thing they didn't have was scallops as our reservation was 9:15pm so I expected them to run out of more things by then. Will absolutely be returning, quite pricey but worth every penny.
(Updated Oct 2023) Maya looked after us and ensured we had a great evening meal. Restaurant has a lovely vibe.and buzz. Great wine, food and service. Quality restaurant in Medway. Offering high standards and definitely the best steak in Medway.
It may look like a cool cosy cafe at a glance from the street. Do not let this put you off, get in, down the stairs to the sky lighted, white walled dining area. Everything about Brettington’s Steak and Lobster House is cool. The music is classic funk, the staff are laid back, the interior unionising. The food is delicious; each dish is bustling with flavour and served in ample portion sizes. If you want drama and gusto added to the occasion order the lobster. It is a sight to behold; with perseverance, like me, you’ll have each piece of meat extracted using the supplied tools.
What an absolutely incredible restaurant. Good food and atmosphere was great. Not the cheapest but you pay for quality.
Incredible restaurant. Best service we had in the UK, and food is to die for. We were also surprised how reasonably priced everything was.
Celebrated my birthday dinner with my son…my lobster and ribeye steak was delicious… forgot to ask the servers name but the Polish lady gave us exceptional service, she was attentive to get my son’s steak just right, then she gave me a complimentary cocktail for my birthday… she made our first visit to this restaurant a really enjoyable experience!❤️
We really enjoyed our evening here. The food was delicious. The truffle chips were the best I've tasted. So many other places the truffle flavour is so subtle it's barely there. Whereas here the flavour was delicate but still powerful enough. Each dish was presented beautifully and the service was fantastic. Really friendly staff and nice atmosphere
Had an amazing meal here tonight. We booked for our anniversary and it didn't disappoint. All the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, food was delicious and timely and the general atmosphere is nice and cozy. Everything you'd want in a nice steakhouse.
This is a great hidden gem in Rochester. The food was delicious and served piping hot. The staff were attentive and helpful. You can tell they are glad to be open again. It is a great restaurant and I would highly recommend it for a great meal. Look forward to the next meal out there. All the social distancing rules were adhered to but this doesn't detract from the eating out experience. The Szechuan beef to start with is a must. A very tasteful and scrumptious dish.
Shared the chateaubriand, enough food for two fairly small eaters. The steak was fantastic. Worth every penny. The crispy beef starter was amazing. Friendly waitresses and chef. Quiet when we dined middle of the day on a Saturday. I would go back again. It’s a bit pricey but the food was great! Decor could do with touching up in places and no towels in the toilet to dry your hands off.
We had an incredible experience at this steakhouse! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection - a beautiful sear on the outside and a tender, juicy interior that just melted in the mouth. The service was also outstanding, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure everything was just right. They were knowledgeable about the menu and made some great recommendations. Overall, a top-notch experience that I'd highly recommend to any steak lover!

Context Visited as a group of 6 which included a teenager, a toddler, my mother in law and 3 people between 30-45 for dinner. Pros * The range of seating options, the choice of decor and the overall clenliness and presentation was great. * The food was very well presented and offered distinctive well thoughtout flavours. The portions are deceptively filling, only seem small the eye but large in the belly. Good range of tasty not to sugary desserts too. * service was patient and friendly, engaged in no upselling or bill building. Things to be mindful of: * Most mains are between £19-£25 with starters <£10. However if you wish to try some of the steaks and lobster options this will set you back significantly more. Only really a con if you collect a modest income like myself.
I came here for a Christmas meal with colleagues l can honestly say it was one of the best meals lve had the Turkey was cooked to perfection Staff helped with the Christmas Quiz an amazing atmosphere l will definitely go back
Love this place ! We went on Friday before the candlelit concert at the Corn Exchange and the service and meal was fabulous as always. Very friendly and welcoming staff.
Was a bit busy but the food is just absolutely amazing so its understandable. The Steaks are just to die for. The steak was so good it quite literally took my breath away. 10/10 will come back in the future.
“Gorgeous food , great atmosphere, wonderful staff.” 3 Dec 2025 Robert H (14 reviews) Tried the set Christmas lunch menu , yummy duck pate & hot sourdough bread followed by asparagus wrapped in bacon , with chips and the mouth watering steak . Atmosphere wise , lovely with the Christmas decs and music 🎵 plus attentive , friendly and professional staff.
We were served by Maisie this evening, and she was absolutely wonderful. She immediately recognised that my son has additional needs and showed genuine compassion and patience while he took his time to order. She was attentive, polite, and made our experience in a very busy restaurant so much more enjoyable. The food was superb too, which made the whole visit even better. Thank you, Maisie!
I ordered something that didn’t taste as I expected, and after speaking with the waitress, she kindly took the dish back. The chef was generous enough to let me choose something different. I really appreciated this thoughtful gesture. I understand it can be frustrating to prepare another dish, and I apologised sincerely at the time—even offering to pay for the first one. To my surprise, the cost was kindly removed from the bill. Thank you so much for your generosity, and also for the extra drink—it was very kind of you. To the waitress, I’m sorry I didn’t ask your name. You were absolutely fantastic—friendly, attentive, and patient. I truly enjoyed my second dish, and the dessert was divine. Great job to the whole team. Please continue with your kindness—you never know how much it can mean to someone. Thank you again.
Food is amazing, portions aren't very big (steak sharing platter for 2 come with a handful of chips). Staff as lovely and helpful as usual. Good selection of cocktails and variety of food options
Went there last night, valentine’s dinner. It was amazing. Scallops for starters (delicious) The chateaubriand that my wife and I had was great. The deserts were delicious too. Cocktails were spot on (better than the ones I make at home). Service was just right, not too much but attentive and professional. We had a great time and will definitely return. Thanks for a great evening!!
Went to Brettington’s to celebrate a special occasion. Food was good but not spectacular. The steak was “medium well” instead of “medium rare”. Noticed it and called the attention of the wait staff. They quickly sent it back and got the order replaced. This time it came out exactly how I wanted it. My only let down was the mashed potato which came out quite stuff. Not creamy like you’d expect in a fine establishment. I must add that the king prawn starter is a must have. Very delicious. The staff were also very nice and lovely.
The staff are superb at Brettington's; they are probably the most *genuinely* friendly bunch of people we've ever met, especially the brown haired girl and red haired guy. We all had steaks, which come with chips and salad as standard. The ribeyes (12oz for £35) were very nice - juicy and tender, and were cooked to the requested medium-rare (but maybe a touch too much towards medium). The 48oz cote de boeuf at £70 was good, but was a tad dry. Chips were very crisp and crunchy. Didn't eat the salad. Sweet potato chips were a little too spicy for me. Desserts looked photogenic and tasted fab; icecream was really good! A rare beefy gem outside of the City, with a huge variety on the menu. 7/10 would visit again.
Dinner on Christmas Eve. We waited a while for our starters. My partner loved her calamari, my pork was very dry and tasteless unfortunately. We then waited for our mains for well over an hour. The main was fantastic, tasty and well presented. We spent roughly 2+ hours to have a 2 course meal, service was exceptionally slow. Granted it’s Christmas Eve but they seemed very understaffed. Drinks were nice. We waited for 15 minutes to order desert then called it a night. A costly meal but worth it for the food and the company. The staff were polite and kept the drinks flowing, and were apologetic about the slow service. The floor was also weirdly slippery and we were warned about it on arrival, it was like a thin coat of grease was across it. We do feel like we missed out on desert but enjoyed the night. Just an honest review.
The Togarashi calamari was the star, flavoursome, an excellent dish, the wine which I chose was excellent as well , now, the Chateaubriand steak it’s a dish which I have it before in other places, it’s supposed to melt in your mouth, but not this time… was a bit chewy, although it tasted good. The service was outstanding, which is expected from a restaurant like this. I didn’t took pictures ( I was embarrassed) of the dishes… but they were looking very good.
Update: Restaurant has gone down a couple of stars: food is now just ok, nothing that tickles your palate. Coctails are substandard, miserable, and heavy with lime. Service is apalling; one staff member was speaking so loudly, you'd think she's trying to sell items in a Sunday market. I have to say that I was quite disappointed with how much has changed since my last visit, and now I can no longer vouch for Brettingtons as top tier for Medway towns. Also, even for groups less than 5-6 people, a mandatory service charge of 12.5% is now applied. So shitty service welcome, no effort is being placed in making customers feel really appreciated. -----‐--------------------------------------------------------------- I have always ventured out to London to find a finediningg restaurant until I found out about this gem in our little Medway town of Rochester! After months of attempting to find the right date, my gf and I booked a reservation. From the welcome at the entrance to the seating, it was refreshing! Our servers were friendly, attentive, accommodating and prompt. The way they communicated with us, one would think we've known each other for a minute! The servers were also quite knowledgeable on the dishes and the drinks and gave great recommendations! Not one of them was lacking in their service! My friend and I felt very comfortable throughout. The portion sizes were perfect, the dishes were delightfully palatable, euphoric even! It was a perfect night out! I cannot wait to take more of my friends back to experience this gem! Update: I have revisited this place twice since my first review and it's still the same and I still love it!
3 of us went. 2 Fillet 1 sirloin and 1/2 baked lobster. Stakes all came out aboutvthe same time. However my lobster didn't. Probably about 5 mins later... Was very tasty but would have been easier to eat with lobster fork rather that having to use my steak knife to get the meat out. Food was lovely apart from my steak having cooled whilst waiting for the lobster..... When paying we all paid 60 each for a 167 bill. They didn't even attempt to bring change back or ask of the rest was a tip. Which it was, but would have been nice to be asked. The lighting on our table meant I had to ask my friend to lean back so I could use the light on the window cill to see my food.... Lovely food. Just not a great experience.
Really disappointed, food was really expensive for what you actually got. Steaks were tiny.... and far too may chips but thinks that's to try and fill the plate. The restaurant from the window outside looks really nice but the actual restaurant is really plain and a bit basic.... not the ambient atmosphere I was expecting. Service and staff were great and attentive couldn't fault them but well over priced.
I went to Brettington's yesterday evening with a friend. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who asked my friend if we were there to celebrate a special occasion or on a date, not quite the presumption we expected. We asked for a quiet table and were plonked next to quite a loud group, who upon departure decided to have a loud disagreement/argument amongst themselves....not the restaurants fault admittedly. We were asked if we'd like to order some drinks but we're not provided a drinks menu - initially. Our waiter arrived with the food menus and told us that we could expect about a 20 minute wait for our food once we'd ordered. Rather impatiently we were interrupted a couple of times whilst selecting our menu choices. I opted for a fillet steak (medium rare) and my friend opted for chicken. My steak arrived and I'm disappointed to say that it was well done on the outside and slightly pink in the middle and quite chewy. Definitely not medium rare. As we had begun to eat a large group of 'Lads' were seated next to us.....so much for the quiet table. Needless to say, we didn't finish what was left of our food and asked for the bill. The overall service and quality of the food negated leaving a tip, which I almost always do. The attitude of the waiter was one of indifference, however the young lady's remarks, on reflection, humoured us. Will I return to the restaurant? No, I think not. Was the food up to standard? Not for a professed steak/lobster house. Overall assessment, a low 2 out of 5.
Not a great experience last night, air was thick with smoke from the kitchens, placed right at the front next to the door that people continually left wide open, several meals and deserts were off the menu, steaks were very chewy and gristly. Also the floor is like an ice-rink my wife wearing heals nearly went over a couple of times.
I firstly would like to add if I could give this place zero stars I would, we have been here previously and loved it so much that we wanted to return for another special occasion. This time round we did not love it, to start we were sat next to a party, I asked if there was another table available I was told no sorry. We sat down next to where the door was wedged open we had two tables that had been shoved together but our table was wonky so was unable to put glasses on the table as they were sliding down. We ordered starters one being a sharing starter, this came out with no plates for us to be able to ‘share’ it out, we asked for plates and were given them within a few minutes. Moving on to our steaks, we again ordered the sharing platter with two sides and two sauces and a side of lobster. The meals arrived again no plates to be able to share the platter, we waited thinking maybe they will bring them over with the lobster in the meantime we picked at the chips which were stone cold, we waited for over 5 minutes before we then got up and asked for some plates and to advise our chips were stone cold. The lady quickly went and dried to plates to give us and found our lobster. The steak was inedible and stone cold, the only hot part of our meal were the onion rings. We were looking around for a server to speak to but no one came past to check if our meal was ok if we needed anything drinks etc. We ate the sides and a young boy came over to say ‘are you done’ and collected our boards then another lady came over and asked if we wanted deserts to which we said no thank you, we then were left for over 40 minutes before I got up to speak to the manager, three servers walked past me waiting at the kiosk before one stopped and asked if I was being seen to to which I said no, I asked for the manager she came over I explained the food was inedible minus the starters, the service was appalling, once we started to discuss the service two of the waitresses came over to listen to our conversation and it took myself to say I actually feel uncomfortable with discussing this whilst you have to servers behind you listening to our conversation for her to send them away, I explained we hadn’t been given any attentiveness throughout our meal I wasn’t able to let anyone know our meal wasn’t great because no one was around until a young boy asked ‘are you done’ this is not a cheap restaurant and you would expect the service to be more attentive. The manager said she would love for us to return so she could ensure that we were taken care of, my answer to that was no way! And that we all should of been taken care of the first time not for us to have to complain. If you would like a cold meal and chewy lobster at full price this is your place! If not AVOID.
Table booked 15:15 arrived slow service but eventually got drinks ordered dinner and steaks to preference. No starters but waited a long time for main at the point of complaint we were offed olives and bread as a a way of apology for the wait Ok so fries arrived and told no truffle oil no Mention of not available just have this instead ! Steaks all cooked medium rare despit to rare but requested medium to well medium so order changed without motivation of not available steaks not cooked to order. Trying to get a second round of drinks very difficult Need to point out that restaurant was only 40% full. So tried to order deserts but was under a time limit for taxi explained this and informed not a problem the drink arrived promptly however some time later the rest arrived but too late to finish should also note that two types of ice cream was order for the young ones and despite waiting again the deserts arrived minus the ice cream which was not available now it would have made senses to mention that once the order was placed Poor service no customer consideration and for an above average cost extremely poor had better service in Mc Donald’s or KFC was once a good place but avoid now very poor all round Receipt available 12/12/2025
