Trevinos Rockwall Reviews
It was our first time visiting this restaurant and overall we had a great experience. The atmosphere was a real cozy vibe with interesting decor dotted around the restaurant. We started off with the bowl of queso with meat, and it was delicious, a must have if your a queso fan. My wife went with the Chicken quesadilla, while I went with the fried stuffed avacado. Both meals were great and the service was awesome. We never had to ask for refills, the food was out quick, and was served with a smile every time. Keep up the great work.
Trevino's makes Mexican food like I remember from my childhood in San Antonio. Not sure what they do to the beef in their tacos but it's the way a taco is supposed to taste! Same with their cheese enchiladas - simple perfection 😋And you can't beat their all day happy hour margaritas.
I have been to this establishment nearly 5 times in total. Like the atmosphere, and they happened to be playing 1980's classic rock music from bands like Rush, Boston, Van Halen, Foreigner, and Journey. There is a decorative, and cheerful horse statue hanging from the ceiling, like what El Chico restaurants might still have as part of their decorum. The food is very well made, very tasty, and at a reasonable price, and made from scratch fresh every day. The building the restaurant is in is probably 100 years old or more, making it very historically significant. Makes me wonder if the streets outside the building once had gas lamps along with the unpaved road back in the days this building location was newly built. This is beside the point, but I am fascinated about history. Trevinos is definately a Mexican food favorite of mine.
Chill place, the food was good, nothing spectacular. This was definitely more of a bar with food than a restaurant with a bar if that makes sense. Friendly service and neat atmosphere!
I’m new to Rockwall, but already Travino’s is me number one go to! The food and atmosphere are especially enjoyable, but what I really enjoy is the attitude and professionalism of the staff. Amanda is my favorite. She always gets every detail of my order correct. Has an uncanny ability to recommend the right drink, and can make any drink you ask for from memory! I think she definitely raises Travino’s likability through the roof. You must check this place out.
More of a nice place to hangout and have drinks. The food is not traditional/authentic by any means. I'm okay with non authentic, but the food is definitely not worth buying imo. Location is great, people are nice and friendly, cheap drinks.
We decided to try Trevino's again after the change of ownership. The service was good but it took a minute for someone to greet us or to be seated. It was just me and my husband. It was a bit after lunch and was not busy. My husband loved the chips. The salsa was medium spicy. The sweet tea was perfect. The food came out quickly. My husband ordered the burritos and I ordered the chicken fajita tacos. His burritos were just ground taco meat rolled in a flour tortilla served with beans and rice. No cheese or toppings. It was like a large kids meal. He said that the meat was very salty. My fajita tacos consisted of grilled chicken in a flour tortilla served with beans, a dollop of sour cream, dollop of guacamole, some pico on a bed of lettuce. Both dishes were very basic and not worth the price. The building is historic and on a cool side note, there is an urn under the awning on the main street. We were told that this building used to sell dry goods and urns/caskets.
Who knew that a Texas Restaurant serves nachos without peppers. They do have some nice big chunks of raw onions. Weird. Their chips are very thick and tough and have a hint of something I I believe to be old grease and not any kind of seasoning. The are mostly hard clumps not suited for dipping. The place is cute. I was seated quickly and my nachos, which were my meal, came in under half an hour.
Trevino's is the very definition of lackluster. The atmosphere is neat with the historic building. But that's where the charm stops, as Trevino's relies heavily on the small town boutique vibe. They lack excellent service and quality of food. Nothing here is special. The service was average at best, and very slow. Why do I need to wait two minutes for tortillas that should have been brought with my fajitas? Servers were polite but inattentive. The food was forgettable. Portion sizes were okay, and flavor was average. My side of rice was clearly from the day before at it was dry and hard. Prices are similar to other area restaurants. It should also be a crime in Texas to serve "sweet" tea that still needs two packets of Splenda to be palatable. I normally give a restaurant two tries before deciding. Given the fact that I can't find any standout quality for Trevino's other than the building, I can't justify a second visit here. I can see the building for free if I so desire. There are much better choices for Mexican or Tex Mex where you dollars are better spent and service greets you as a valued customer instead of yet another chore to slog through. Do better, Trevino's.
The food quality has gone down tremendously since new ownership. I used to eat at Trvino all the time they had the best refried beans in the world and now they’re not good at all and their sauces don’t taste the same and you need to go back to the original recipes that the Trevino had.
This is an ok Mexican restaurant. The service was good and the setting is nice. This said, the food was not great by any measurement. I ordered a 17 Oz steak and I got this extremely thin, hard, and really chewy piece of meat. I wasn't even asked what doneness I was interested in. Also, the size was nothing like a 17 Oz steak. The other dishes were also uninspired. The salsa was too spicy and seemed out of canned tomatoes which is a tragedy. Their tamales were quite good and this was the only bright side for us. The price was reasonable too. In the end, I'm not coming back. The food was too forgettable for me to want to return.
Plates look pretty, but that is about all it had. However, if you notice the color of the food looks a little artificial, just know so did the taste. Taco Bell comida is better than at this joint. The picture of the meat dish is what they called "Carne Guisada," but Carne Guisada should not have vegetables in it. The "Carne Guisada" was more like drained beef stew. Way over priced for what you get. Tortillas were not made fresh there and they weren't even good store-bought ones. ...AND they didn't have coffee that day because THE COFFEE GUY DIDN'T STOP BY THAT DAY!???? Ok that is just weird. They also did not let us combine our tables to make a table of 6 instead they sat us at a huge table that we did not really need. Waiter was not very friendly and seemed annoyed that we were not impressed with their food. He must not know that we are from South Texas where awesome comida is served at the multiple Mexican restaurants in town. If you live in Rockwall, please do not think that this is what Mexican Food or TexMex food is supposed to taste like. To end on a positive note, the decor was pretty.
I will start off with the positives. I like the building and the atmosphere. Though to my surprise, they did not play any music that even closely resembled Mexican music! Now the negatives. The food was not that good. It was warm, lacked flavor, and the tortillas were not homemade! The flour tortillas seemed to have been taken out of the package and placed in the microwave for just one second. Also, the service was mid at best. I had high hopes but sadly this location was a disappointment. This is not “comida mexicana.”
I mean… it was the most white washed Mexican restaurant we have ever been too. And there are some really good Tex Mex places but even Rosa’s is better than this place! The food was so bland, no flavor, we weren’t greeted at the door, we sat ourselves and finally someone came over, but the thing is, it was empty except for a table in the middle. The waitress was pleasant but clueless. My grandma was so excited to try this place and she instantly said she’ll never come back! Don’t waste your money.
We were greeted immediately and told to sit where we liked, which we did. Our first time here, and the first impressions were good. The gentleman who saw to us played barman/server/ manager(?). Our chips and salsa arrived quickly, as did the guacamole we ordered. I ordered a margarita on the rocks, and on the bill saw I got the top shelf. Not a problem, I should not have assumed I would have gotten the house one (if they had one). My husband ordered the spinach enchiladas and I got the shrimp one. Mine was supposed to come with a tomato and herb sauce and he asked for the tomatilla... We both got the same sauce. Mine was good, nonetheless, even though the tomato and herb would have been a first. No apologies were given and I did not feel like questioning, nor arguing... My husband's enchiladas, although covered in sauce, was two empty rolled up tortillas. No spinach, not fresh as advertised, nor frozen. The gentleman apologized and offered to get a new order. We declined, holding out a faint hope that he was not going to be charged for something he did not receive, nor consumed. Fat chance. We would have declined a complimentary dessert, but it would have made us feel better if it was offered. It would have looked better too. The one star is for the original impression and because I cannot give no stars. We've been in Rockwall since February and are looking for "our" places to go when I need a break from cooking and to entertain our friends. Trevino's will not be one of those... Also, not value for money as far as the food is concerned.
I’m actually disappointed, we had seen the reviews to this place a few months ago and were looking forward to eating at Trevino’s. We got queso with picadillo, it was watery, the chips were stale. My husband ordered tacos and enchiladas, this was Tex Mex food with a horrible taste. The sauce on the was worse than chili out of can :( the rice has too much spice and sadly no flavor. I ordered chicken flautas, they were so greasy, it overpowered the chicken. The salad was wilted and pico appeared to be a few days old in my opinion. We simply didn’t eat any of the food. This wasn’t what we were expecting. The food has no flavor. We were so bummed!
Upon our entering, we were sat right next to another table, even though there was plenty of room throughout the dining room. My straw looked like it was bent in multiple places and had a hole in the side. Then the food came and it wasn't all that good. My steak wasn't seasoned properly and was on the bland side. The $4 "freshly" cooked Spinach was freshly straight out of a can, with a bit of chili powder added. Plus I was told that I could not substitute my beans and rice for the spinach. My gf ordered it and we had to trade. ??? The waitress didn't seem to know what was on the menu and that there were bad typos on the menu either. Not worth the trip or the price. With so many other Mexican food choices out there, you will find better options.
