True Texas BBQ

Everything was great. It took a bit longer than I’m used to as it was 25 minutes. The ice was out, bbq sauce was out and I was charged $2.00 for sauce I never received. The sandwich was good, but dripping with grease. The mac n chz was tasty and I was pleasantly surprised with the apple cobbler. The tea tasted fresh brewed and the strength and color were great, could be a bit sweeter imo. So glad you’re here, we love the store!!!

Got BBQ from the drive thru today. A young lady named Ayana helped me out. She was incredibly sweet and well informed on the menu as I had quite a few questions about pricing as well as portion sizes. Food was pretty good, I had the brisket nachos and mac n cheese. Would come back again!

The food was fantastic and it came out quickly. The employees were also great. They gave great suggestions and they continued to check on us throughout our time there. Due to personal preference, I didn’t care for the coleslaw and they let me switch it out, which I appreciated.

Melinda and staff at the HEB BBQ restaurant are wonderful! The food was delicious. This will become a regular stop for our family. Highly recommend. 👍

The servers and hospitality were wonderful. Erica was super helpful and very kind. Anita was wonderful and very sweet making my visit very enjoyable. Her kindness lifted the atmosphere in the entire restaurant.

First time here. Melinda is so professional. Helpful and attentive. The food was good. Stuffed baked potato. Next time the chili. Spotless facility. Love the concept. Take a break from shopping and indulge.

I love the meats, nachos and chili dippers (fritos with brisket chili on top)! Great price for the amount of food you get! They are almost half the price of other bbq joints

The BBQ here was pretty good especially the brisket it was seasoned well and tender, had to use the kiosk which 2 of them was out, thankfully it wasn't crowded when my wife and I went l, the BBQ sauce was OK,will return to try the ribs Follow me on Instagram docccwayne_reviews

Very good Texas authentic BBQ! Sides were fantastic! Sides were very good portion sizes. BBQ was definitely weighed and you were getting probably exactly the amount of meat (in a cup), so plan that out when you order. After the full cup sides, none of us left hungry so it was fine! Plenty of sauce because it is on your own in jump bottles like a ketchup pump would be. Drinks were awesome too, nice big cups with fountain stations. The sauce, dribks and silverware, etc. are upstairs and downstairs, so that was great when crowded! Food came out fairly quickly, maybe max 10min wait. Just enough time to get drink filled and find a table upstairs...then food was ready. Do wish they had a buzzer for those going to sit upstairs during super crowded times. The kiosk was not perfect, had no receipt paper and then got no receipt at all (not even a text receipt because we had already selected paper).

We ordered a variety of the items because we were having trouble deciding what sounded best. Ordering was fairly easy thru the True Texas BBQ app to pickup in the drive-thru. The order was ready on-time & brought out curbside to avoid having to wait in the line. 😏 super sweet worker on the drive thru speaker & brought out to my car (not sure if the same person) Everything was still hot even after driving back home to Rowlett after pickup. The portions were decent overall but especially good on the Loaded Brisket Chili dippers. HEB’s queso blanco is TOP TIER! I’ll make sure it’s on my regular shopping list going forward. 😋 The Texas-sized Pulled Pork sandwich was hefty & packed with flavor. Our kiddo loved the pickles and insists we will only be buying HEB pickles from now on. 😆 Brisket Birria Ramen should be a regular menu item versus limited time. I’ll be sad when it’s gone. So good, flavorful, a little kick of spice, and filling for the two of us that ate it. (We were a little skeptical/worried it would be a lot smaller but pleased with the container size) Finally, we got the 2-meat plate with chopped brisket & poblano queso sausage. The sausage was 🔥🔥🔥 - Highly Recommend that!! The sides we chose for the 2-meat plate were the potato salad & coleslaw. Potato salad was very tasty & the coleslaw was different but still delightfully good. I look forward to trying the other sides for future visits. I wouldn’t say the brisket is the best I’ve ever had, however, it is very flavorful & did not disappoint. It tastes great in the brisket chili. And I would like to try it unsauced in the future to get a more “accurate” feel on how I really feel about it. I’m very picky about bbq sauces if/when I decide to use it so the brisket being sauced may be hindering my thoughts a little there. The variety of choices we made cost less than a family pack & easily fed a family of 4 getting to try multiple menu offerings. Will definitely have again.

But Texas has really great bbq and this place doesn’t have it. It’s better than the bbq chain places like Dickeys, which isn’t saying much. But to each their own. Let me just say, if you are traveling through Texas from another state, this isn’t the place to eat and judge our bbq by….. Brisket was dry. Sides were pretty good. Most meat we bought had either been smoked too long and dried out or they don’t have the ability to keep it moist because of volume? I’m not sure. And portions are a bit skimpy. The staff at HEB is always nice, like the Disney of grocery store chains. Atmosphere is…that of a bbq joint in a grocery store. Which…..is what it is, so don’t come here for a true Texas experience.

Melinda was a great help when we decided the cornbread wasn’t to our liking (did not know it had jalapeño in it) and she was able to help us with different choices and brought it out fast! Overall, the food was not as special as we thought. The burnt ends, chicken tenders, and fries were fantastic! I would not go here if I’m looking for a barbecue fix. Great service though!

I am a huge HEB fan. I love everything about them. But, just went into the BBQ place to pick up a to go order. Staff informed me they gave my order away to someone else with the same name as me. Said they don't use order numbers, just names. This has happened 3 times. And then I get to stand and wait while they remake the order. This time I said enough, and we went to get the store manager. He corrected the problem. Big thank you to the the store manager. Big not coming back to the BBQ staff...very much below the HEB standards I have come to expect.
