Edokko Japanese Restaurant Sacramento Reviews
This place is a secret gem. Ramen and rainbow roll were amazing.
I have been coming here for over ten years. This is an amazing neighborhood Japanese restaurant. The food is delicious without all the extra pageantry. My favorite thing to order is the nabe yaki udon. My partner ordered kara-kare and really enjoyed it too.
Edokko is our favorite Japanese food here is Sacramento! Food & Service are excellent! The price is affordable & worth it for the taste!
Friendly. They don't take AMEX. Lunch specials. Filling. =) Sooo many interesting options. Good veggie/pescatarian options. Have to go back! Want to try their furai (specials on board) and ramen. I love it when I find a mom-and-pop restaurant I want to support. =)
Absolutely delicious soup! Top tier broth and tempura. Will be coming back :)

A hidden gem. The food is fantastic and service is second to none. Not trendy, but the best.
We have been eating here for over 25 years and we absolutely love everything about it!!! The food is CONSISTENTLY delicious. The service is always friendly and efficient. We have ZERO complaints about this restaurant! It is authentic, beautifully presented and always delicious Japanese food! Our family favorite is the Oyakadon, boneless chicken and onions in a uniquely delicious, light broth, served over rice, and topped with scrambled eggs. Sounds different? It is, but it cannot be beat on a cold winter night, after a long work week! So so so good!
How have I slept on this place all these years?! The two different ramens we got were insanely flavorful. Our sides were great and I especially loved the sauce with the croquettes which no one else seems to get right in Sac.
My mom was a good cook from Osaka culinary school, after she contracted cancer the food never tasted the same. After eating at Edokko it brought back hope of once again eating my Mom's cooking. I love this place !!!
Love the food with decent prices. My favorite dishes are the spicy tofu and sesame chicken! Customer service is awesome, with a greeting everytime you come it. The only thing is when ordering over the phone the pick up times can be long. Besides that if you live close by come say hello.
It’s been 20 years… my mom was craving noodles so I ordered my go-to dish — gomoku yakisoba. It was just as good as ever! Going back real soon!
Great mustard chicken and karaga chicken.
Great down home Japanese food. By that I mean, this is what you can find at any little eatery in Japan. I grew up in the area and remember when this joint opened. 4 years in Japan and now live up in WA. When I come "home", I always make a stop here! It's a little casual place doesn't put on airs because it doesn't need to. The food speaks for itself. Inexpensive, friendly and delicious! Local run and owned!
Wow. My first visit to Edokko and the food was absolutely amazing. I had dinner, the Sesame Chicken Bento Box. It was fresh, hot and delicious! The service is also excellent! I'll be back for sure! A+!
Many items on their menu are not normally found on other "Japanese restaurant" menus, which makes it a nice place to get comfort foods you might have to travel to San Jose or the LA area to find. Many local residents have been eating here for many, many years, and it is pretty evident why. The very friendly lady in front remembers everyone, the prices are pretty spectacular, and the food tastes great! It is not a fancy, mind-blowing dining experience, but you can order things you would not normally find, service is top notch, and everything will be consistently quite good. This is a great, cozy place to go.

This place has amazing food. I used to get the edokko don (katsu don with shrimp tempura on top) almost every time, until I discovered yakiniku (thinly sliced pork in an amazing miso and onion sauce). The gomoku katayakisoba is also excellent, as are many of the other dishes. Service can be quite slow (more than an hour lunch when you are trying to go fast) and there is very limited seeing, so I only ever order take out any more. Unfortunately, they are often wildly inaccurate on their estimates of when food will be ready, and have been known to wait until you show up to start cooking (or even check to see if they have the ingredients available). That said, I still love getting food here.

I lived in Tokyo for 18 months approximately 3 years ago.I was for a company assignment. I ate out almost every night.Clients would take me out eating in the Sacramento area. The area has the greatest good of all Tokyo and most expensive.Edokko Japanese Noodle is the closes of the restaurants in Sacramento. Exclusive selection of fishes. Excellent cutting skills.Feels like the old times in Tokyo. The greatest restaurant I've been to so far in the U.S.
They are open for dinner now. They are also short-staffed and have a lot of take out orders, so please be patient. I ordered the curry rice and the rainbow roll. The curry was just okay and does not justify the price I paid for it. It's also very different from when I had it a long time ago. It was more a yellow curry base back then and not like the Golden Curry flavor like I had just now. The Golden Curry you can make at home with the cubes is better in my honest opinion. With those gripes aside, it will be tasty to most because it does have a very homey and comforting flavor. The rainbow roll was nice and fresh. The only drawback is the pieces were way too big. There were 6 peices. It included the fish and avocado in one bite, except the ends. Definitely not easy to eat if you have a small mouth. One piece was equally 1.5 or 2 pieces. However, the fish melted in my mouth though, along with the rice and the tempura shrimp. So it wasn't too difficult to stuff it whole into my mouth. It was a little magical but not very pretty to watch me eat. This place is a good mom and pop place, not fancy but they have a little bit of the fancy prices. Me and only a few people were there eating in. To my knowledge, only 2-3 people were on the clock: the cook and the front host, and maybe someone in the back I didn't see. The host was very attentive and she knows her regulars well. I hope they will get more help when they start getting busy with diners again. And if the cook or waitress reads this, please tell your mom to cut those pieces smaller. Maybe make it 7-8 peices? Thanks for the food.

I really wanted to like this place, and the server was incredibly nice, but this was the worst Japanese food I've had in a while. The miso soup was over sweet, too salty, basically unpalatable. The gyoza were greasy and too salty, did not seem recently made or perhaps rewarmed too many times. Terrible ramen soup. The tempura were ok as well as the chicken teriyaki. All four of us were sadly in agreement that we would never return. I think perhaps they just don't know better.
takeout took over and hour. i walked in right at 5 when they opened and placed my order. guy said it’d be 30min, but it was an hour and 10 min. he was nice, but i dont understand why it took so long. there were only 2 tables dining in and they each got their food right away. i used to come here all the time when i was a kid, and returned for a taste of nostalgia. i probably would never have returned anyways as i dont live in sac anyways, but let this be a warning if you’re considering takeout. kinda sad that this place fell off. food was just mid too
