H Salt Fish & Chips Sacramento Reviews
I got a 2 piece fish & chips here for less than ten bucks. Sure, I had to wait a few minutes, but it was well worth it. It came with tartar sauce, ketchup, and even salt and vinegar. What more can a guy ask 🙂
Small spot family owned… very nice people and food was delicious! Also very clean, place is small but impeccable. Does not smell like fish at all!
I'm a true fish lover, every Friday gotta have it. I love the taste of this establishment, treat yourself, don't tease yourself.
I've been going here since I was a kid I love the fish an chips and vegetables tempura I'll always go back here but make sure you order before you come the wait time can be rough at times but great food
Very small mom and pop diner in a big city. The food was so authentic it tasted just like pub style fish and chips. We got the seven prawns, one piece of fish, onion rings and french fries for $13.99. I like that they had all four dipping sauces already on the tray without even asking. Special shout out for the tartar sauce.
My mouth was watering as I pull up to park. Cozy and nostalgic ambiance. Nothing but good feedback here. Service is quick and hassle free. Portions are heaping. Looking for that original comfort food without breaking the bank? This is the place to be. Support local business and revel in the history of this quaint jewel in the heart of downtown Sac. 😘😋👏🏼🎉🍤🐟
The 1 piece fish + chips w a side (onion rings) is a large amount of food for $9. The chips/fries are decent. I like that you get malt vinegar, that's v authentic for British food. The onion rings were crunchy. I didn't need extra ranch ranch bc the tartar sauce includedin my meal was delicious. The fish itself was incredible, easily the best thing on my tray. Flaky, moist, crisp batter, seasoning salt--just perfect. The dining room could use a deep clean. I recommend takeaway and maybe eat at the nearby park. Friendly counter service.
Great light crispy fish for low prices. Some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had with great shrimp and onion rings. I ordered 2 fish, 2 shrimp, fries AND onion rings for $14. It is a lot of food. You can get a good meal here for only $6. Fish is fresh and owners are great. Mom and pop run shop. I would suggest paying in cash and even tipping because the food is great and cheap.
This is a real hole in the wall jewel and has pretty authentic fish and chips. They have 3 parking spots in the back but otherwise you have to look for street parking. The ambiance is small old diner with 6 tables. They have some plaques with the shields of various countries in England, but that is it. No bathrooms. You are not coming here for the ambiance. You are coming here for the food. Their menu is on the top wall and includes entrees of fish and other seafood. We ordered the 2 piece fish and chips with zucchini and mushrooms and a couple of fountains drinks. The fish was wonderful - light crispy breading, soft nicely cooked fish, which was easy to chew and not overcooked, the perfect amount of salt added. It came with tartar sauce and melt vinegar, both of which were great. The zucchini was very nice and interesting - fried, crunchy, salty. The mushrooms were ok. I expected them to be more fried. We ordered coke but got Sierra mist or something similar, not coke. The prices are unbeatable. They even have fresh beer and it is very cheap. The couple managing the restaurant are very nice. Service is a little slow because everything is made fresh, but it is worth it. You feel like you have traveled back in time here. It is simple, no frills and a wonderful experience. If you want fish and chips in Sac, this is the place I recommend.
Hearty serving of fried fish and shrimp on mountain of chips/fries. Not greasy or excessive oils. Monthly takeaway visit satisfies desire for fast seafood. Owner, and his wife, are quiet nice people.
The taste of the fish is very close to what it used to be. The french fries are good but not as "meaty" as they used to be, which is kind of expected. The cashier is not overly friendly or talkative but he isn't rude. Very matter of fact. The prices aren't overly outrageous, especially in view of the times in which we live. I love LOTS of vinegar and salt on my fish and chips and I don't feel like he puts enough salt and vinegar when I answer that I want extra, extra salt and vinegar. However, he does put extra vinegar and salt packets in the bag. I can't speak to other products served because I'm not a seafood eater. If you used to like H Salt Fish and Chips, these do transport you back to yesteryear.
Love the lightly battered fried fish and shrimp. Got the "Catch of the day" which includes 2 big portions of fish and 2 shrimp on bed of fries. The air vents on the paper bags kept the fish and shrimp crunchy even after driving a good 16 miles or so. Will stop by again and try the catfish next time. Parking spaces are limited in small alley behind the H Salt building. Also might be a small wait, they seem to be busy, lots of customers during early lunch hour.
If your hunger and driving down 16th street this place will work. I have to admit the cook is good; batter crunchy and fish flaky, I wish it was more for the price. The prawns not bad but I’ve had better, nice size though, I would say the fish lacked flavoring which would have added to a great eat. Again if you’re hungry this will do, however there are more flavorful fish fry’s out there.
Damn wish it was better tbt. The batter on the fish wasn't what I expected. The vinegar felt water down? How can that be. The fries weren't particularly hardy or crispy. The fish was moist and wasn't heavily greasy. The tartar sauce was actually probably the most enjoyable thing I had there. Maybe I was expecting a more textured crunch a more crackled snap with the breading. I don't know. Food came out relatively fast. The place is no thrills. Y'all got to stop hating all the worker there he was fine. He's not friendly but he's not mean or disrespectful. I wouldn't make a trip to stop here. I'd think about stopping by if I were a few minutes away but to me this is nothing special
The fish was plentiful and tasty, but the clams were sparse. Although the food tasted good, it took a while (24 mins) to get my order after placing it. With a fifteen minute walk each way, that was my lunch hour (although I was able to eat it back at my desk). My recommendation is to add MORE clams to the orders...what I got should be considered a half-order of clams at best.
This location has very slow service and needs a serious cleaning. The fish was all right, the fries were mostly soft and soggy, and the cole slaw looked and tasted about a week old. The condiments are low quality. Just during my eat-in visit another guest had difficulties with the person taking orders and assembling meals. Try your local fish & chips shop, it almost has to be better than this shop.
Based off the ratings, I had to give this place a try. I waited for over an hour for the seafood special and to my disappointment, I found the fish to have no flavor whatsoever. The batter was crisp and light like everyone said but I expected more than I bargained for. Maybe I caught them on an off day but I won’t be returning.
