Ichiban San Angelo Reviews
Staff was great thanks so much for the great experience. Our kids loved coming here.
Excellent place, great environment, excellent service… we were the only two they seated at the table and they still cooked in front of us and did the usual show with fire… though less entertainment than usual (no volcano, flipping the spatula, etc.)… nevertheless, I’ll be back.
Have eaten there on more than one occasion. The food is always outstanding! Tonight, when we went (about 15-20 of us total ranging from infant to 55 years of age, having multiple children with us) to celebrate my stepdaughters' birthday. Everyone had the time of their lives. Had a positive atmosphere making it an entertaining experience. The staff was what made this night so special. Our waitress was incredibly kind and considerate. Our cook was entertaining in more ways than just with his cooking abilities, the manager took the time to make sure everyone's needs were met. Could not have gone better. thank you!
This is my go to for hibachi style food! The atmosphere is quite relaxing and the staff is always friendly and attentive to your needs. And the best part is that your food is cooked right in front of you! They can get pretty busy so I highly recommend calling ahead and making a reservation.
We arrived and were greeted by the hostess right away. Our drink order was taken and brought out promptly. The tables were clean and the grill looked clean and orderly. The lighting is dim but that adds a layer of coziness. The soup was clear and delicious. The salad was crisp and fresh. Everything was cooked perfectly. Great portion sizes...definitely enough to take home.Highly recommend.
Don't tip the tall skinny cook he got offended when I tipped him $8 on a $14 plate
Waited 40 minutes before chef came to fix food. We were only table the whole over an hour we were there (not sure why). Normally great place for lunch.
We came here as a basketball team and although they did seem to be a bit understaffed it took them forever to take our orders and a good 30 minutes just to get our water. Although I didnt get to eat (because it took about an hour so we left) my family who did stay and eat said it was bland and not worth the price. Very extremely overpriced as sweet tea was 3.50 and the crab puffs were all creme cheese.
We had a party of 4, ONLY one person got theirs right. I didn't ask for noodles but I still got them. Another person had chicken and water but they only got chicken. Another person asked for tuna but gave them chicken and steak instead. Basically had to make corrections. Why did I come here...
Very disappointing! The wait staff was kind and did a good job...but, the food was rough at best. Zero show from the guy cooking... he was nervous and had obviously had little to zero training... cut up the chicken while still raw, then two seconds later scooped up the fried rice using the same utensils and plated. Raw chicken cross contaminated utensils used to serve the rice right in front of our eyes. I know he just didn't understand due to the lack of training...but, that is a great way to give customers food poisoning. The main reason to go to the hibachi grill is for the show!...it was so boring! Even the same old onion volcano would have been something... zero show. Only time my family and I have gone to hibachi and left without eating. Sad and depressing atmosphere...a flickering light in the waiting area draws your attention to an "aquarium" that looks more like a sad fishy mental hospital, only half full of water and filthy. So... the wait staff was kind, and did a good job... but, the rest was the worst hibachi experience we have ever had.
I’ll start off by saying this is definitely not the place it used to be. We walked in and the floors were sticky. We were sat right away. We had a good waitress and I will say that was about the only good part. The food was disappointing to say the least. The soup had a weird taste to it. I still can’t figure out what it was but it had something it shouldn’t have. The salad dressing was sour. We specifically ordered dinner portions during lunch, but we must have got the lunch rice portion because we hardly got any. The rice we got was excessively oily and raw. The vegetables were missing broccoli and carrots. Zucchini and onions only. The shrimp was missing flavor and soy sauce. The steak was very fatty. Our drinks and the ginger sauce were the only things that had any flavor. Only one cook for several tables. We will not be going back.
Went to Ichiban and arrived at 7:08 PM. We waited patiently. A family of three walked in after us—one of them wanted to leave, but we encouraged them to stay, explaining that the quoted wait time is usually longer than the actual wait, typically around 20 minutes. Then a party of five arrived, followed by a party of four. When I politely said, “Excuse me sir, but we got here first,” the owner looked me straight in the eyes and said, “I’ll seat you later,” and proceeded to seat everyone else ahead of us. By 7:46 PM, we were still waiting. If you’ve been there before, you know the lobby isn’t the most comfortable—especially with a baby getting overheated. Honestly, that felt really disappointing. We did the opposite of complaining—we encouraged others to stay—just to be treated like we didn’t matter.
Chef was very disappointing/not entertaining. Food was mediocre at best. Restaurant was not clean and each plate was sticky and had food stain. Asked for a modelo and they brought me a michelobe so I sent it back. They brought back an 2 month expired modelo and when I asked for one that wasn’t expired they said they didn’t have one. Worst Hibachi in San Angelo.
Its your typical hibachi atmosphere: cramped, chaotic, and a bit dirty. Our waitress was very busy but nice. The chef was kind but had no training. Our rice was undercooked so it had a crunch to it and wasn't seasoned at all. They say vegetables on the menu which implies variety but it was only zucchini and onion and again unseasoned. We ordered the filet and watched the chef not only not season it but he sliced it up without any sear, decimating any chance for some good natural flavor. The soda is in cans and no free refills, thats just weird for a restaurant. The portions were super small, especially for hibachi. We were overcharged on our bill which was corrected but they also automatically included gratuity, yet we had a regular family of 5. We tip and we tip well so it was very off-putting. Particularly after such a terrible meal but I suppose they know what they are doing because if someone is tipping based on quality of the food, portions, or service here the tip would surely suffer. With the quality of food, small portions, error with the check and the gratuity hussle the owners are cutting corners and it felt very scammy. Its a shame...we rarely have the chance to eat out but it was my husband's birthday and it is heartbreaking to spend $200 on a meal that was barely edible. Hopefully our experience wasn't the norm but I cant recommend this place.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Ordered from San Angelo to go, (which that team is 5 stars) ordered a hibachi dinner meal (chicken and shrimp) comes with soup and salad, side egg rolls, side of noodles, and TWO sides of fried rice. So get our delivery and noticed we only got one order of fried rice (our kids 4 & 7 only eat the rice). Texted the driver of San Angelo to go that we only got 1 order of the rice, and he politely goes back to the restaurant to get the other order, and which I offer to pay him an extra tip for making the trip. He then texts saying “they said they put both orders in the same box and that’s how they have always done it” so I asked to speak to a manager, and the lady asks “is this about the rice” and I say yes, i ordered 2 sides of fried rice, and there’s no way they both are in this tiny box for 2?? She then goes on to tell me she’s the manager and immediately got a very rude attitude and told me that’s how we do it here and then hung up on me……. PLEASE someone tell me how 1 side of noodles fills the same exact sized box of “2 sides of rice” 😂 owners name is Chanel Bruening, but refused to give her last name, but goes by Hyon or something like that. Super unprofessional and extremely disrespectful and rude. Side of rice can’t cost ya much lady, Ingot hungry kids in this economy and went on a spree for hibachi for an exciting night for my kids. Will never be returning to ichibans after this sadly.
We arrived at the restaurant at 12:50; the waiter said to have a seat and he’ll be back. The waiter came back 15 minutes later and said “It will be a 30 minute wait” 😂 okay but #1) Be transparent #2) They were not busy #3) It seemed as though he might have done us a huge favor of skipping out of this place. The entry needs some decor, it’s absolutely dreadful and fyI spice it up a little.
The food just isn’t the same. The ginger sauce is bitter and hardly edible. The rest of the food was pretty bland. A few of us had immediate bubble guts and later in the night some got sick. Possibly food poisoning. Our server was hardly around and we barely got refills. We were in a large party so gratuity was added but not shown on the ticket so I paid $40 cash . I found out later that we ended up paying $80 tip.. for a few refills. We will definitely continue to go to Bonsai, the only reason we came here was because the other place was booked up.
