62 Area Chow Hall San Clemente Reviews
GMI strives to provide the highest quality services so that those we support can focus their efforts on their mission and matters of the highest priority. We serve those who serve!!
Don't listen to these negative reviewers. Fake news. Ever since the business hired a new food service officer/ Logistics officer (who I hear is a terrific really wonderful person) in February this spot got even better. Tremendous food. Everyone talks about how wonderful their food is. Don't listen to the terrible reviewers. We live in a fake news world people!
Been here for over a year and the food has been terrible and just got back from deployment for it not to be any better and for them to give you less food and no way to get more unless you pay for it might as well buy and cook your own meals. (UPDATE!!) new facility has been open as of December 23 food quality has been getting better as well as portions are fair new facility is much more vibrant and welcoming rather than the almost gloomy atmosphere of the old facility only thing I believe could improve further is efficiency.
In the entire military history of the human race, the San Mateo chowhall stands as the single worst establishment to ever serve food. It is the scummiest rat-infested feeding trough any professional fighting man has ever had to run his tongue across. Eating there is a debasing act unbefitting the dignity afforded to the lowest human soul—If you told me Judas Iscariot was going to dine there, I'd tell you he didn't deserve it. Luckily the smell of sewage was always wafting in from the storm drains outside—I say luckily as it often overpowered the smell of the food. For some strange reason, "Sodexo" is not listed in the encyclopedia under Cults of Cosmic Horror. The company almost exclusively hires the cognitively disabled—the only reason the managers aren't disabled, is that only willful and malicious intent can reach the appropriate levels of failure. Simple incompetence is not up to the Sodexo standard of mismanagement. As I turn my mind to the food, that matter that was scooped onto my tray each time with "sorry bro" from the man scooping, I find my hands start to shake and my mind unwilling to turn to that dark place and share with you what unspeakable horrors slopped onto my tray. Nay! I shall not burden thee with a description of what was ate, for such knowledge would be a black ichor in your skull, poisoning your mind, and risks robbing you of the very idea that anything good or beautiful could ever exist again. That said, the lady working the front desk would watch my skateboard for me—3/5 stars.
This is a disgrace if this is how we feed our service men & women. Food was dried out, and lacking in many ways. I ate here twice & was very disappointed, both times.
This chowhall is constantly low on drinks and rarely restocks them. The food is dry and has a lot of grease. The breakfast is the only good thing about this chowhall.
Food is at the low end quality of my experiences with chow halls. Place is understaffed in the omlet line often waiting 30+ mins at least. On the weekends the food is absolutely terrible and it's always a gamble wether the food is decent or not during the week. Breakfast is actually good though. 2/5 at best..
Certainly better than it was when we left last fall for oki. The food is generally bland and over/under cooked, but not always. Also not entirely sure why the money to fund this place is taken directly from our paychecks and we can't have two meats or get food from two separate lines. The chocolate milk is ok, at best.
Worst chow hall I’ve ever encountered in the marine corps, under cooked or over cooked food. They serve literal edible depression. The service isn’t much better, long lines and tiny portions as well. The workers are quick to harass you if you try and get seconds. The pictures I’ve added are examples of the meat that’s served, either dry over cooked or raw. I got food poisoning from the raw chicken in that photo, so much for keeping the marines in Mateo combat ready.
Food sucks, some of the people are nice. Wish I could give like 1/3 of a star cause that's what it deserves. No AC compared to other chow halls, bugs all over the food, and half the time none of drink choices work.
Worst chow hall ever , everything is really bad, the rice, chicken dry , this is so sad
Dirty, gross food, rude service. They kick you out early cause they’re lazy too. And the cac scanner lady is annoying
Absolutely trash and half the time the chicken is dry, the staff gives you half scoops of food like they are rationing for ww2 or something, lines are way to long, horno is better than this hole, and they change the hours instead of using normal weekend/ holiday hours, they just use whatever hours they want.
Going downhill even more with taping to-go boxes shut to prevent you from getting more food, even though food is thrown out all the time. But that’s Sodexo greed.
I visited Camp San Mateo and was disappointed by the poor quality of the 5th Marines' Mess Hall. The building was dirty, with the back dock resembling a yard sale. Grease is all over the floor from the building to the garbage dumpster. There is a wide array of broken equipment on the west side. Additionally, all employees were outside, engaging in horseplay and smoking cigarettes. I hope they were cigarettes. Magnificent MSgt USMC
Literally complete trash. Food is always over cooked or undercooked. Chow lines go down every other day. One day they may have a full selection. The next day it’s only burger patties the next it’s only chicken. Someone needs to read these reviews and make something change.
I would not even feed this food to a stray dog. Unsanitary chow hall with the same over cooked and even under cooked food all the time. I cannot believe they allow such unsat cleanliness. Do not listen to all these "local guides" who are not even in the marine corps. If there was an option for -10000000000000 stars I would select that option.
This place is worse than prison food. Every time my dad comes out here to visit, he always tells me how it’s still the same chow hall from when he was in back in the 70’s.... Thank you marine corps. Every other chow hall (especially main side) is good except for ours.
Discusting, it’s amazing how the government takes out $300 a month for this low quality food. Powder eggs every morning for breakfast, dry dehydrated chicken, most foods aren’t cooked all the way. All around worst place I’ve ever eaten at.
Food is terrible. I have my money taken out of my paychecks so the guy at the chow hall can tell me I can't have 2 pieces of meat, or eat and take some stuff to-go like every other chow hall on Pendleton. The only food that could be considered somewhat good here is the breakfast burrito. How anyone could rate this place 5 stars is beyond me.
