Saigon Restaurant San Diego Reviews
Great little Vietnamese gem in city heights. Easily top 5 pho in San Diego . Don’t miss the egg rolls either. Also when they say fresh crab and lobster they mean fresh! They literally pick them live from the tank when you order.
I believe this is the best Vietnamese restaurant in all of San Diego. Not just pho but all the other little Vietnamese specialties like grape leaves wrapped around beef etc. Unbelievable five-page menu and prices are reasonable. Order two things for three people and you have food for 2 days with take home.
I've been going to this restaurant since I was a little kid, and it's been amazing for decades. The food is super flavorful, the portions are great, and the staff is always friendly. There are so many options, and I've never had a bad thing here. Standout has to be the Spring Rolls—they've been my favorite for years and I've never found a restaurant that can do it better.
Have only done take out here and never eaten in. Giant menu. The egg drop soup large is enough for 2 meals and the best egg drop soup I have ever had which is why we keep going back. Nothing has ever been terrible but it can be inconsistent. If you call ahead for take out, expect to wait. Don’t rush to get there because if they tell you 25 min, it will be 25 min, maybe a little longer if they are busy cuz it’s a a big place.
The restaurant appeared older and somewhat outdated but had plenty of parking lot space. The staff was nice and friendly. Food was cooked to order and came out very hot and fresh. All of the dishes that our party of 4 ordered turned out delicious. The beef noodle stir fry was delicious, and the portion size was well worth the money. Highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to try vietnamese food. The menu is very large (many options to choose from).
I had great expectations for this restaurant. It didn't disappoint but I wasn't in Heaven in regards to the food. If you go a bit later than a typical lunch time it won't be 'as crowded' on a Saturday. Fun atmosphere, fast service, and generous on the portions. I would recommend trying it once. Dumplings were a tad dry.
My group and I ordered several dishes to share. Our favorites were the beef cubes steak with french fries, the Buddha's delight style vegetables, the crepe (make sure you cut some and wrap it in the lettuce provided and then use dipping sauce) and the fried spring rolls. I would not get the crispy chicken again (it was okay), but everything else was good!
Everything about this place is excellent. The biggest main problem is the service, they seem unconcerned with taking your order or getting you a drink. Once you finally get your order placed it takes a bit to get your food but it's really good. I also like the family style dining. I would like to visit more but I'm not use to giving money to people that don't care I'm there to eat
Best pho I have had in San Diego. From the time I walked in until I got my food though...1.5 hrs. And not everything was available on the menu because they're short staffed.
Saigon is one of those places I don't mind going but wouldn't necessarily recommend to others. Most of the food tends to be decent and consistent, with some letdowns (the crispy duck is wildly overcooked). The drinks are pretty good. Service is decent enough. The wait can be very long - especially if you come in with a family but are doing separate dishes. Some people will have their food up to 30 minutes before others. I do think the family meals are quite good and worth it. For what it's worth, my Vietnamese father-in-law goes here occasionally, but we tend to other places unless we're doing family dinners with more people.
The food is pretty good for northern Viet flavors, but will always be inferior. The service is slower than bug snot on a cold day, and that’s if they actually remember to bring everything you ordered. This part of San Diego has fallen deeper into despair over the decades — it’s disgustingly sad and dangerous for some patrons. It’s overpriced.
