I've been here 3 times now and it's still got my vote for quality food! We had the Salmon Kama plate, Jessica Albacore Roll, Mayan Roll, Double Crunchy Roll, Tonkotsu Ramen, Chasu Ramen, Chicken Ramen and Chicken Teriyaki Plate. All dishes were delicious and came out of the kitchen fairly quickly! The service was awesome, especially from our server Araid. She is so helpful and can recommend some amazing dishes. I highly recommend this place and will be back very soon!
Fast and friendly service. Tasty food. Fair portions and prices. Update: Got the Pork Katsu and Salmon entrees. They were both very tasty. The Pork Katsu is my new favorite. We will surely be back! Update: Got the Chicken Teriyaki and Pork Katsu plates. Both were excellent! Look forward to trying more entrees. Update: Got the Shrimp Yakisoba and Pork Katsu played. Both were excellent! Update: Got the Pork Katsu plate and the Lemon Salmon roll. Both were excellent, however you won't get full on just one roll. Update: Got the Pork Katsu plate and the Spicy Seafood Ramen soup. Katsu was excellent as usual. The soup however was a little spicy, but didn't seem to have much flavor. So we won't be ordering it again. Update: Got two Pork Katsu plates. Excellent! Update: Got one Chicken Katsu and one Pork Katsu plate. Both were excellent, but my fave is the Pork Katsu. Update: Got the Teriyaki Chicken and California roll dinner special, and the Pork Katsu plate. Both were excellent! Prices have increased. Update: Got two Pork Katsu plates. Excellent as usual! Update: Got the Pork Katsu plate and the Tongkatsu bowl. The pork Katsu was excellent and the Tongkatsu was good. Update: Got two Pork Katsu plates. Excellent as usual! Update: Got the Pork Katsu plates, and the Vegetable Tempura plate. Everything was delicious.
We went in for a late lunch. there was essentially no wait time and the food came really quick. I ordered the Deep Fried Crusty Philly Roll. It was super crunchy and yummy. It was breaded as if it was a corn dog which made it so unique from other sushi places and hella crunchy which I love. They gave a generous portion of the sauce so that was yummy. 10/10, i'd come back and recommend to others!
This was one of my weekly staples to eat at in the San Diego area! Everything was so good, I miss it since moving to Ohio. The sushi was better here than at some of the Japanese restaurant in the area. The soup and katsu was just amazing! I would recommend to anyone who like Asian food. Update I moved back from Ohio to San Diego so now I get to eat here even more and the staff are happy we are back!
Came on a Sunday afternoon, so the place was packed! Amazingly fast service despite there not being an empty seat in the house. Staff was beyond professional and the food was awesome (large portions is a plus). I would definitely come again. The Chicken Katsu tasted great, the portion size was HUGE. Also tried the Donkatsu Curry Rice and Cali Fries.
First time here. Came in after picking up the car from Ford next door. Was a little taken aback when I first walked in. Walk up and order, then your food is brought to you. It's was fairly empty when we came in. I ordered the Katsu Roll (pictured), which was pleasantly good. My wife ordered the spicy seafood ramen and a mango salsa roll. I love spicy and the ramen was pretty spicy. Overall, would recommend to a friend if they're in the area.
It's not Coco's Curry what is exactly what you would expect from Japanese Curry. Are the most of the staff aren't Japanese the food still tasted very much like it was made in Japan. Ironically, I don't think that they know that. There were definitely Japanese on staff who probably direct a lot of the cooking.
I did not realize how big the portions are. We had a very good dinner experience. Ordered chicken katsu, vegetable tempura and a crunchy California like roll (I forgot the name). We could not finish and had to take the leftovers home. Service was great, fast and very polite. Attentive waitress, serving soup first, noting that the next dish is coming up in a few mins.
Delicious Katsu with strong sauce.. very large portion sizes. Price is very reasonable. Plenty of parking outside. Potato salad was also delicious which comes with plate. No wait time - Atleast today.
Came here spontaneously and I’m so happy I did. The prices are very reasonable and the service was top notch!! Food was prepared quickly and the quality in my opinion 10/10
Food is delicious and good portion. Price is reasonable. Service is great. Food was served quickly. A lot of people are dining during lunch which is an indication of good food and service. Restaurant is good casual atmosphere, size, and clean. We had the Pork Katsu and their Friday Special, which is California Rolls, Shrimp Tempura Rolls, Salad, and Soda. We recommend and we will come back again
Nice big portions, and great food varieties, from sushi to curries & ramen soups
Our favorite place to visit when in San Diego! Excellent sushi 🍣 great variety of sushi to choose from 😋 service is always friendly! And Sapporo on tap 🍻
Got the pork katsu plate and it was huge, so come with an appetite. The katsu sauce was nicely tangy, and the salad was good (get the dressing on the side). Miso soup was pleasant, too. A big party came in right before us, but we still got our order in quickly and it was filled/out quickly. Overall good food at a great price, definitely will come back to try more!
food servings are plentiful. The food was yummy and served hot. The place is almost warm, which I prefer cool indoor spaces. The crew was very friendly and food came out very quick after ordering will definitely be back. note:pictures bellow show full serving of teriyaki chicken plate and a third of my serving for my katsu chicken plate!
This awesome sushi spot is a must stop for the best take out. The menu here is filled with classic and specialty rolls for you to choose from, as well as a great selection of soups, and hot dishes. A lot of the special rolls offer experimental fusion, though you will also find tried-and-true veggie and classics here, as well. I love their sushi dinner options that are perfect for sharing with family and friends. Crusty Philly is my absolute favorite! Highly recommend to check this place out!
Great Great food, amaziiiiing portions, a real bang for your buck💕 first time eating here and will definitely come back. Happy hour everyday from 3 to 6 pm. Had the Katsu chicken plate and took leftovers home. The service is fast and very friendly. Loved it.
Fresh, fast, and delicious. A lot of food for the very reasonable prices. Pretty standard strip mall interior but the menu shines. I prefer places like this that aren’t flashy but make great food for a great price. Recommend!
Really a good spot for a variety of food options. The portion size is huge and comes most of the plate comes either side of rice, salad, soup. The sushi rolls were amazing. We tried the katsu chicken place, teriyaki chicken, sushi and spicy miso ramen! Service was fast and food came in early. Ambiance is nothing too fancy but they have tables outside and we loved sitting and basking in the winter sun !
Stopped here for a late lunch during the weekend. It is located in a strip mall between two other restaurants with plenty of parking around. You order at the counter and then seat yourself. Casual with a Hawaiian theme. Mostly teriyaki and katsu, but can also get ramen and sushi. Prices were decent for the amount of food. I ordered a katsu plate and received two large pieces of katsu, a big salad, lots of rice, and a scoop of macaroni salad. We also got a teriyaki chicken bowl and a Jessica Albacore roll. The roll had fried onions which we ate separate since it stuck together, but was still good. Food tasted fresh and took home lots of leftovers.

Food was delicious. Came out pretty fast for a large order like we had. All staff was super friendly and even when a large group came in they all stepped up and were helping each other so that all parties were served quickly and efficiently.
Good size portion. We ordered Dragon roll, Double Shrimp roll, Dynamite roll, Shrimp Tempura and Double Crunch roll. All were good and tasty. The roll with fries was good too. My only issue is that they don't have contactless payments like Apple Pay or Google Pay. Handing the owner my credit card and having to sign during these days is a little bit hesitant.
The cafe has a dinner vibe with Hawaiian decorations. The pork Katsu Plate was a real value with a huge portion. Don Katsu isn't the best I had but for the price it can't be beat. You get 2 patties that are thick nor too thin. They weren't as crispy as I like and weren't greasy. It was a very satisfying meal. Make sure to bring a hearty appetite. Additionally its Miso soup was unexpectedly good. Usually the restaurants don't try Miso soup but their Miso soup was a level above. There are outdoor tables so it looks like 🐶 can be accommodated.
This Japanese restaurant specializes in tempura and creative sushi. Highly recommended: 🌟 Signature Tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) — crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. 🌟 Crusty Philly Roll — coated in panko and fried, offering a unique texture. [Side-eye] Not recommended: Gyoza (pan-fried dumplings), curry, and tonkotsu ramen are just so-so. The chicken tempura has visible fat, and the regular tempura is bland with little flavor. It’s around $15 per person, with generous portions — perfect for sharing. My friend said her kid absolutely loves the fried sushi here; it’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus, parking is easy to find in this plaza.
The staff here are awesome, very warm, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They have terrific M-F lunch specials which are not only budget friendly but very well portioned, super tasty, and balanced. Pictured is the Tuesday lunch special, a grilled teriyaki chicken over a bed of white rice with a cabbage blanket, a scoop of their amazing potato mac salad, and a good portion fresh salad with super flavorful salad dressing (i could almost eat that dressing on everything!) and a drink! They have tables and booths inside and tables outside. Plus, they really understand the "lunch time" meaning, you can be in, eat, and out easily within 30 minutes! We go almost every Tuesday now!
Excellent food! I got the pork katsu and had my work cut out because the portions are quite large. Also ordered Jessica albacore and lemon salmon which were good rolls at a fair price. The miso soup was also exceptional. Also the photos are after we started eating so some is gone.

Went here last week and honestly I was a bit disappointed, I was craving Hawaiian plate lunch or something similar to that and we all know clairemont doesn’t have a great selection of places that sell plate lunches, so you can imagine how happy I was to find a place called Katsu cafe and then I see an aloha sticker on the door and was like “right on, this place could be similar!” Boy was I wrong lol. The host was not very aloha she seemed bothered and the Katsu itself looks great but has no flavor whatsoever. If the Katsu needs sauce then In my opinion it’s junk . Also the sauce they gave me was more like a steak sauce “A1” that’s how it tasted and again I was in the mood for plate lunch (island style.) I know inflation is crazy so for $44 and some change I at least wanted the food to be yummy, my niece enjoyed her Katsu curry at least. The grain of rice they served in the plate was definitely not it! We also ordered a roll I think it was called “maya” or something along those lines for my husband and that was “okay.” Due to this experience I most likely will not return here. To each their own , I at least like to encourage ppl to try a place out at least once .
Tuna roll was absurdly small for $10, so I’d pass on the sushi. The chicken katsu curry was good, the vegetable yakiudon was not. It was quite brothy and overall lacked flavor.
Overal, they are just okay place to go for food... The prices are cheaper than most other Asian food places & their foods are pretty tasty. The reason I had to lower the rate into 3 stars is that the employees' attitudes, or maybe how their business was operated? Probably b/c their store isn't spacious, but they always rush you to order the food right away in order to be seated. Also, they dont provide you a menu to order so you have to line up at their register. Automatically, that makes you to pay first, which means it's bit troublesome to order additional stuffs after you start to eat. They dont place napkins/chopsticks on the tables so you have to ask them to give you 1. I'd still come here b/c not many places can beat their prices in SD. But they're not a recommendable place for ppl who want to enjoying spend their time to eat :/ For those ppl who still want to try their food, i'll suggest you to go for their happy hours, start at 3 ~6 PM i believe. The mall has open parking lot & it's free, but the alignment is bit tricky & little tight so be careful when you park in the night. Most of the food pics i posted here cost less than $8 excluded tax. It's bit hard to see, but the CA Roll hid back of my water was on deal for happy hours when i ordered.
I had the chicken curry udon. The chicken was so dry and flavorless that I picked all of it out so I wouldn't have to eat it anymore. It was so dry when my girlfriend started crying I just handed her some chicken and dry her tears with. There really wasn't much udon noodles either and the curry was watery. The different sushi rolls we had were okay. The vibe is kind of dumpy.
The food wasn't bad it just wasn't my favorite. Also, pretty much everything was a huge plate of food so you should definitely have a big appetite.
Don’t bother getting the sushi. Had the lions yellowtail, maya, mango salsa salmon, and crusty Cali rolls and they lack flavor despite looking pretty and having what should be flavorful ingredients. Jalapeño tempura was tasty. Curry chicken fried rice was delicious. Teriyaki plate was fine.
Pretty solid, affordable food in a very casual and laid-back atmosphere. The portions are very big. We both liked our lunch, but the katsu didn't have a ton of flavor. I'd probably try something different next visit

We found plastic in the tuna roll, watch the video. Also, I ordered the salmon roll and the tuna roll, and paid extra to add avocado to both rolls. Look at those rolls and tell me: where is the avocado? I immediately told the waiter about both the plastic and the avocado. A waiter brought me a “new” tuna roll. Then another waiter came with another new tuna roll so I heavily suspect that they just recycled the tuna roll with plastic that I sent back. As far as the avocado, they didn’t think that my complaint made sense apparently. You be the judge. There’s barely any avocado, it’s pathetic. Also they had no gluten free soy sauce which is a pretty nice courtesy to have when you’re serving sushi.

Sad Sushi Cafe is more like it. Saddest sushi order I’ve ever received. Salmon sashimi came on rice, no big deal, but wafer thin pieces. Ordered the mango roll with salmon on top… apparently there’s a slicing option even thinner than wafer. Dare I say it has an air-like quality to it? Obviously don’t recommend. What a waste of money, it’s like I ordered fish flavored rice for $25.
We ate there at lunch for the first time. Within a few hours we were both terribly sick. We had beef udon, and their sushi daily special.
We came in to try this place out since I got a "half birthday" coupon for $10 off $20. After we placed our order I showed the cashier a screen shot of the coupon that I had saved to avoid searching through my emails. She looked at it and asked for ID. Then she said my birthday had been too long ago and that they had never seen a "half birthday" coupon before. My friend showed her another "half birthday" one we had received while I was searching for mine. She said she would "comp" us the $10 with an attitude like she was doing us a favor. We stepped to the side and finally found the coupon, she then refused to look at it saying she couldn't be forced to look at it. She said she was the manager and she needed to check the email because people have reused the coupon before, inferring that we would do something like that!? Our bill totaled $21+ she said our total was $16+, when we asked her how it worked out that way she said 1 avocado roll worth $4.75 had been discounted. We showed her the coupon again and said it stated $10 off $20. She asked if we wanted another avocado roll discounted with a really bad attitude. She finally discounted us $10 off our $20 bill. This has been the worst and most disappointing experience ever. Asian cashier says she is the manager and her name is "Daisy". Katsu staff needs to be aware that "half birthday coupons" are sent out. Coupons should be valued at what they are worth. If its $10 off $20 then that is what should be offered. And Daisy or whatever her real name is needs to get some people skills training! I wonder if we were white if she would treat us differently!
