Turf Club San Diego Reviews
Nice bar and restaurant that is great for lounging and having conversation. They have a full bar and the bar is long with plenty of seating. The restaurant is fun because you get to grill your own food which is interactive, a great option if you’re hanging out with friend or on a date. The place itself is a little dark, as the lighting is very dim. Overall I will continue to visit because they always provide a good experience! Surrounding area is also walkable and cute.
I love it's unique dining experience and it's a competent bar as well. It uhh wasn't explained really well the first time we went and we were a bit taken aback to be served a raw steak. Of course, that's the draw. They could do with a longer grill, or maybe 2, the several times we've been it was downright crowded on the grill. Other than, a wonderful spot and one of my favorites in the county.
Always a friendly atmosphere at Turf Supper Club. Great place to hang out and prepare your Supper over the community grill inside the restaurant. Essentially a social BBQ setting that is indoors. Great place to break the ice w/ a new friend or reminese with old friends. Reasonably priced .
I haven't been to the Turf Club in 30 years. Back then, it was a charming, warm, friendly environment with great food and fantastic cocktails. I don't know why you crossed my mind today. But, I'm so happy to read the great reviews and know you're still in business. I live on the east coast now, if I ever get back to San Diego, I'm gonna share your experience with my beautiful wife. Thank you for the great memories. Love the Turf Club!
For thousands of years, man gathered around a fire and roasted meats. Long before the dawn of agriculture and civilization, our ancestors came together for warmth, sharing our kills and fire with one another, forging the bonds of family and community across a makeshift hearth. Now you can experience this same community, and be absolutely hammered while doing it. The drinks flow like water from a fresh mountain stream and go down easy, and the meat, while expensive, is tender and flavorful. The community you find here, a ragtag mishmash of characters, anyone from the most broey PB Padres fans to local jazz nerds unwinding after a long day of extended chords and key modulations, will find common ground at the shared grill, and for a moment, a single night, we will be safe from the beasts and elements. I got the ribeye because it's by far the best cut, and the sausage, because it's the wurst. Both tasted like primal society ripping itself from the boundaries of instinct and into the modern age. I got a minty dessert cocktail and that shit was delicious. Everyone working was a total sweetheart 11/10
It’s tucked in the west end of South Park, definitely gives off that “old soul” vibe. The building’s from the ’50s and proudly hasn’t had a facelift since the 70’s, which kind of adds to the charm. Inside, it’s dimly lit with cozy booths, a long bar, and a dining area with a random BBQ pit right in the middle, kind of wild, but it works. Drinks, strong and dangerous. I had a margarita that definitely tried to flirt back 🫣 lol. Went with the T-bone, solid size, decent flavor, but the skirt steak! That was the real MVP. Marinated to perfection. Next time, I’m ordering the skirt steak! It wasn’t packed, but had a steady crowd, and the staff was on point. Definitely worth a return trip!
This is such a cool spot. Not sure that I've ever actually done anything quite like it. First, the staff is awesome and customer service is great here. Second, the drinks were delicious and well poured. Third, the food was really great and the fact that you cook it on a community grill is really something unique. We met and had some nice conversations with strangers and the overall experience was way more cool than I had anticipated it to be. Highly recommend for a fun date night or gathering of friends.
Visiting this place is like stepping back in time. I had the best steak I've had in ages, and the best part about it is I grilled it myself! I came with three friends from work and we all loved it! The service was super friendly and the drinks were good too! I'd definitely be a regular if I lived in the area. Looking forward to bringing more friends when I'll be back in town later this year!
Very fun date night spot. You cook everything, even your burger. Big grill, everyone gathered around. Red light ambiance helps to disguise meat that maybe isn't cooked exactly how you like it. We had a blast. Hot dog was these best. Ribeye not too fatty, just right. Wish we tried the filet, watched others cook theirs and looked amazing.
Turf Supper Club is at once familiar and foreign. It feels like a hip diver bar, but is also a unique restaurant offering high-quality meats and vegetables for you to self-grill. I love that everything is drenched in red light. My favorite menu items are the cheeseburger, vegetable kabobs, and flank steak. They provide bottles of Worcestershire, Tabasco, BBQ sauce, and more for your food. The best drinks are the sneaky tiki and the martini with blue cheese olives. The staff members are super friendly and attentive. The jukebox selections are hard to beat. The bill won’t be outrageous. Definitely come through to Turf Club whether it’s for dinner, a drink, or dates.
An incredibly fun experience! It sounds simple on the outset - a place where you grill your own steaks! Who would want to do that when you go out to eat?! But you mix in the ambience of the supper club environment, the red lighting, the great drinks - and you end up with such a fun and unique experience. Steaks are as good as you make and season them and sides are fine. Parking is an absolute nightmare, if we came again we would uber. Service was good but limited in what they are doing for you since you are going up and cooking yourself! A must do experience in San Diego!
Friendly Staff, open late!! Kitchy retro interior, very busy at 9pm when we arrived, but was able to get a table. Not sure why it takes so long to get your meal when it is uncooked meat? (Chicken came marinated in plastic wrap, be sure to remove it before cooking (;-) The Old Fashion was delicious!!! And others at the table enjoyed their steak’s. Reasonable prices!!!
Drinks are great. Dinner is incredibly lackluster, its fine for the novelty but would not if you want a good meal. Would recommend for drinks, definitely not for dinner. I personally dont plan on going back and wouldnt recommend to friends
The place was fun at first, but the experience quickly went downhill due to the manager, Sean. When I asked about a specific drink, he abruptly threw the menu down in front of me. My husband calmly addressed his behavior, and instead of de-escalating, Sean had us removed from the venue. Even the security guard appeared confused by the situation. Sean’s conduct was unprofessional and unnecessarily hostile, and it completely overshadowed what could have been a good experience. I was visiting with the intention of recommending this place to guests staying at my vacation rentals, but based on this interaction, I can’t in good conscience do so. Customer service matters, and this experience made it clear that it’s lacking here.
