Bettola San Francisco Reviews
Stepping into Bettola's Italian market feels like being back in Italy. I love the selection of authentic goods! I now know what gifts to get my family for the holidays! Haha Also the olive oil and the focaccia are incredible. Yum!
Nice midday stop with nice natural lighting coming into the front room. The bread was simple but delicious. Meatballs were tasty. There were 2 pasta options and the pasta was fresh. Would prob choose the pork over the chicken.
Love this cute little place! Warm Mediterranean atmosphere. We tried the pizza and some pasta and potato croquettes. Super yummy. A small mix up in the order resulted in this super delicious cauliflower dish on our table as well which they graciously gifted to us. Lovely place, lovely people. Give them a try.
Lovely experience for my birthday dinner with a group of eight of us. The food was good, the service was attentive and the space is cozy and warm. Will be back!
After my wife and I got back from our Italy trip, I’ve been exploring more Italian spots around the city, and I’m so glad I found Bettola! I had the panino con la porchetta and a tiramisu with an espresso, of course. Loved it! Now I just have to bring my wife!
Just tried several dishes to go, and for the quality & price I definitely will come again. The porchetta sandwich was delicious & filling, and only $12! The substantial croquette al patata was crunchy on outside and creamy delicious inside, $5! The half roast chicken came with 3 sauces and looks amazing $15. The ambience reminded me of Italy and felt comfortable and homey at once. Can't wait to try the desserts! Thank you for being in the Richmond District!

The rotisserie chicken is absolutely delicious. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and so convenient to grab to-go when I want a great meal without cooking. The rest of the food (and the wines!) were just as good. Caitlyn was incredibly warm, lovely, and genuinely hospitable, and the servers were just as wonderful. So grateful to have a spot like this nearby!
This place is truly a gem in the neighborhood. I had a delicious meal here, every dish was a winner- my favorite things were the roast chicken, the cavatelli and all the vegetable sides (especially cauliflower.) What a great spot to have in the neighborhood to pick up a chicken and sides for dinner on a night you don't feel like cooking but want a special meal. I would highly recommend you eat there though to enjoy the warm ambiance and delicious wine! Can't wait to be back soon!
I ate here with my husband and we absolutely loved it. The porchetta was one of the best I’ve had in years, and the tiramisu might have ruined all others for me, it’s that good. Service was warm and outstanding, and the cozy atmosphere made us feel transported straight to Italy. If you’re looking for authentic Italian in the city, this place is a must.
Had a great dinner here with friends! Everything we ordered was delicious, all the staffs recommendations were hits. The environment was perfect for catching up over apps, pasta, and wine. Service was excellent and welcoming. Cannot wait to come back here soon!
If you’re looking for a cozy vibey, delicious spot on Clement Street to eat dinner, I highly recommend Bettola! Growing up Italian I know what meatballs should taste like, and these taste super homemade like Sunday night dinner. They play amazing jazz music and have black-and-white movies screening on the wall. The service is exemplary as well. You can buy pasta and olive oil and cheese to go, it really feels like a cozy part of the neighborhood. Highly recommended, we are the only ones in there on a Thursday evening around six so you don’t even have to worry about lines! I had a spritz and my partner had a natural rosé. Thank you Gianluca & Co.
Best way to spend my Halloween! Incredibly gluten free friendly (most places upcharge for gf pasta) - I got the best special, pasta with guanciale, and am obsessed. Shout out Eligio for attention to detail! Highly recommend the Lambrusco on the wine list
Everything was fantastic. Our server was attentive, kind, and made helpful suggestions, and Caitlyn was so lovely and personable that we felt immediately at home. Everything we ate was so good, the wine paired perfectly, and the whole place has a cute, inviting vibe. So glad I came here for dinner! Highly recommend checking it out.
This is a quaint quiet restaurant on Clement Street. I had the chicken sandwich which came with a side salad. I loved the bread so much I bought one to take home with me. This is a jewel of a place. My friend and I decided this would be our regular meeting place for future lunches.

The honest star of the show is the food! Surprising, fresh, deeply italian. You can feel the authenticity of the staff, the decor. Stand outs are the Carbonara and the Swordfish! Carolina was an outstanding server - and kudos to the chef’s!!

Came here with a party of 4 on a Friday night. The food was OK. The arancini’s were pretty disappointing. we ordered 2 after realizing it only came with only 1. $13 for 1 arancini is pretty ridiculous, and it lacked flavor. Our server was good, but I do wish he offered more recommendations and suggestions on dishes that will be good for a party of 4. He did recommend spaghetti, which was the best dish. Every other dish was fairly bland and unfortunately weren’t memorable. I feel like I’m doing this restaurant a solid by giving them an overall 4, and the ambiance was pretty nice, but I don’t think I’d dine here again.

Ordered a lasagna Bolognese and got a very small and burned piece. I used to like this place, but look at the size of this lasagna and tell me it's worth $23. It's sad, so few good Italian places and we lost another one

Nice atmosphere and service but avoid if you want good food. Especially with so many excellent Italians restaurants in SF. Insalata di Lattuga supposedly had anchovy vinaigrette. Couldn’t tell there was vinaigrette not to mention anchovies. Crocchette di Patate were not oily but pretty tasteless, bell pepper aioli was good. Calamari in Purgatori was extremely heavy on smoke paprika couldn’t taste anything else it was totally overwhelming. I suppose it should be bit acidic being seafood and there were some capers but we only tasted paprika. breadcrumbs were not enough side for this dish. Paccheri all’Arrabbiata was best food. Pasta was al dente, sauce pretty basic and not spicy unless you ate the chili. Panino con la Porchetta was the most disappointing thing we ate there and anywhere else for a while. won’t be coming back and definitely not recommending.
Friendly atmosphere and good service but food was cold and very bland. Only exception was the potato appetizer which was crunchy and flavorful. Lasagna was terrible at over $20 for a small piece. Actually inedible. I so much wanted up like this new place but food was a big disappointment.

We had high expectations for Bettola, but unfortunately, our experience fell far short of what we anticipated. The menu was surprisingly limited, offering little variety or creativity. What was most disappointing, however, was the quality of the food itself. Whoever was in the kitchen last week seemed to have no grasp of seasoning or flavor. The dishes were shockingly bland—completely lacking in spices or even basic salt. It was, without exaggeration, the most flavorless meal we’ve ever had. To make matters worse, there was a clear quality control issue: the risotto we were served was undercooked to the point of being inedible—hard as a rock and nowhere near the creamy texture you’d expect. The one redeeming aspect was the atmosphere. The space is charming and inviting, which makes it all the more disappointing that the food didn’t match the setting. Here’s hoping Bettola can bring in a capable chef who can turn things around—because the location certainly deserves better.
I have to say that the service and atmosphere are very pleasant. But the food not so good. As an italian I can say that the spaghetti with clams were the worse ever, no flavor at all, it taste like water with lemon, it was so watery. Plus I had only 5 clams. Also I got the calamari and they tasted like old. Over all the service was excellent but the food not for sure even close to Italian flavor.
