I'm a sucker for places with funny signs. Doubly so for breweries. So Black Hammer was a winner for me. Met a friend here on a Tuesday night, and it was quiet as you'd expect. Beer was fresh and good, service was quick and friendly. Mind the bees...

We got a flight of the stout, sour, west coast, and hazy. All of their beers were tasty and with unique flavors. They marked which beers had won awards on the menu as well. This place was better than we expected! Will definitely be back in the future.

Big ups to Michael for being a superb bartender even if he's subbing. Excellent beer, even better hops seltzer. Design of whole place has character. Absolutely will revisit.

Just stopped in for drinks, but they had a nice selection of IPAs, so I had a flight...they were all good! Nice place with a really nice outdoor area out front.

Great brewpub with a variety of beers that are varied and good . Friendly staff and an overall relaxed San Francisco vibe. Do yourself a favor and stop in

Update (2024): Still a great selection of beers and very relaxing atmosphere on a Tuesday evening. They've got some very interesting beers on rotation right now. Would definitely recommend trying out the peanut butter and jelly beer! 2019: Great selection of unique beers, very friendly staff, great place to hang out at after work

They had Marzen (great quality) and doppelbock and bunch of European beers 👌 One of my favorite taprooms in SF

Street parking only. Limited indoor seating. Outdoor seating is available. There are lots of beers on tap. Had a flight of 8 tasters. Most of them I like. Great porters and hazy IPAs. The server was helping friendly. No food here, just empanadas.

I have no gripes with this Brewery or the location at all, whatsoever. I really enjoyed my spontaneous, unplanned stop here one afternoon after lunch. Just after opening, during a weekday it was somewhat slow (majority of the time, I was the only patron) but other individuals/small groups were in and out during my time spent here. The brewtender onhand was the greatest with recommendations, as well as just convo in general and made me feel very welcomed. Great beers, great variety of styles on hand, great indoor/outdoor vibe at this location. Everything about my visit was fantastic... including the dope painting on the wall (see pics)!

Had a fantastic experience at Black Hammer Brewery. Sitting at the bar, Justin was great helping us decide what to try. Growler, the owners dog, is a cute addition to the staff and sat up with us. The Cuddle Puddle was our favourite by far. Highly recommended stop before a Giants game!!!

Black Hammer Brewing Company is a place I’ve driven by so many times and finally got the chance to stop into while we were out walking and exploring the area. I’m so glad we did, it instantly lived up to the curiosity. The vibe here is exactly what you want from a brewery. It’s unique, cool, and laid-back, with plenty of character and a strong sense of community. It feels welcoming whether you’re popping in for one drink or planning to hang out for a while. The beer selection is great, with a nice variety of styles to choose from. Everything we tried was well crafted and enjoyable, making it easy to find something that fits your taste whether you like lighter beers or something a bit bolder. The space itself really adds to the experience. There’s a relaxed energy that makes it a great place to meet friends, take a break while exploring the neighborhood, or just enjoy a good beer in a comfortable setting. Great atmosphere, good beer, and an all-around enjoyable experience. We’ll definitely be back and are glad we finally stopped in.

So far, I’ve had their Pilsner and their Belgian white. Both so fresh, crisp, and delicious! Today, was my second visit, and each time I was met by friendly staff. They’re out of the way for me, but when I’m meeting my friend near his job, it’s a great time to go. It’s very close to the baseball stadium, Oracle Park. So, did watch game days, and possibly avoid at the time the game is almost over. The traffic gets pretty challenging, if you’re driving in the area, at that time.

Had a time with friend on a weekday. Surprisingly, the place is full with people enjoying the vibes and the drink on a weekday. Most of the people are from work and some are tourists. They have very good selection of beer including my favorite black beer. The price is reasonable. The place is not noisy with music so you can have a very good chat with friends. They also have quiz game but the questions are really hard. We did not join the game. I recommend this place and I want to visit and hangout here again.

Great crafty with an extensive list of beers. Was pretty quiet when we went in (Friday early afternoon) but the layout still carried some cool vibes. I had the Cloud Chamber which was phenomenal, one of the best beers I had on my holiday. The resident bar dog greeting people at the door was distinct bonus for wifey. Loses a star cause prices were a little punchy

Overall, a solid local brewery option. Plenty of beer styles, including seltzers and ciders. Unique to this location: a pleasantly idyllic selection of local art. But an unfortunate turn: 0 for 2 between their locations regarding service. Understaffed bar, with apparently unprepared and irritable staff.

Decent brewery near our hotel. We both had the Ascendance Hazy IPA 6.6% which was good but not great. This was our last brewery of this 3 day visit to SF. I would come here again as they do have a decont selection of beers.

Black Hammer Brewing Company sits in the heart of downtown San Francisco is a small batch brewer offering unique, tasty offerings. Their DDH Cuddle Puddle smacked with taste bombs of grapefruit, passionfruit, mango, and peach. Barrel at the End of the Universe offers a Mike Tyson 11.6% barley wine uppercut. Their sour offering, Lilikoi Mezcalita, which translates to Little Mezcal Time, has hints of overripe fruit and a sledgehammer of smoked malts. Yes, smoke. My favorite beer of the flight was Tom Kha, a 5.5% witbier that tasted like a fever dream of Thailand. With notes of lemongrass, lime, coconut, and chilies, this crisp Belgian-esque was complex and refreshing. The establishment was painted black, with both framed and non-framed art rocking the walls, like a Banksy wet dream. The restrooms were clean. Indoor space is limited, but they do offer a patio area right off the street. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive. A flight of four cost $20. They have a nice offering of canned beer to go as well.

Black Hammer is a good brewery but not a great one. Their beers are bold and creative, but the balance is off on all of them. Their heavier beers suffer from this the most. Don't visit here for the taste of the beer, visit for the awesome atmosphere and good folks behind the bar. The board games, skylight, and optional outdoor seating make this such a fun place to hang with friends or relax on your own. This brewery deserves a visit, just stick to the lighter beers.

We have been there before and the beer is good. Had a sign on the door that they were closed at 6:30 for a private party. No problem....We were there at 6:05 and said that they couldn't serve us. Why not say that you are closed at 6:00. Or tell us that we have to be out by 6:30. Just bad customer service.
