Fish in the Box San Francisco Reviews
The food was absolutely amazing, flavorful and fresh. Very good, high quality ingredients. Great size portions. I got the Strawberry milk match and Tuna Sunset bowl to go. Its a small indoor eating area with outdoor seating option as well.
Been ordering pick up from here. The staff is very friendly and promptly serving. The fish tastes really good.
The place is small with limited indoor seating and a few outdoor seating. The food looks and tastes good. The staff is friendly and the food comes out within a reasonable amount of time. We got hungry and ate everything before we remembered to take a picture.
I ordered takeout from this restaurant and was really impressed. The interior is cozy, and the takeout dishes were beautifully plated with attention to detail. The flavors were well-balanced and everything tasted great. I especially loved the strawberry Matcha, it had a nice tea flavor and the combination was just right.
Great place for a quick Japanese meal. Fish is very fresh and price is reasonable. They have multiple small tables for dining in. But most of people don’t eat there and just grab the food out.
Ordered a takeout from this place, and oh wow. Food is fresh and good quality. You can feel the fattiness of the salmon in your mouth, and it is so good. I also really enjoyed the Unagi Don. The sauce is delicious, and the eel is so soft and tender but still holds itself. They also give a pretty good portion, this is not a petit side.
My favourite sushi spot in the area. Always consistent in terms of quality and service - shoutout Ivy for always being so welcoming! Highly recommend.
Food was good, we ordered the original fish in the box and had it at the Panhandle. It was enough to feed a couple for a quick lunch. Tasted like a chirashi bowl with an assortment of fish and there was complimentary real wasabi and soy sauce.
Awesome food speedy service just about as reasonably priced as sf can possibly be. the plating is much better when they serve the food, i already mixed it up.
The food is amazing! I'm a sushi fan. A sushi burrito is amazing. Expect to spend about $20/plate. This is about a 15 minute walk to the Painted Ladies. There isn't much space to sit down, two tables for 2 people each and a counter for 3 people. All the food is in to-go boxes. You can order on the app beforehand or on a tablet at the restaurant. You have to pay extra for boba on the tea, which was strange. Kids have to like Sushi to eat here.
Food was great and staff are polite. You order on an iPad and bring your food out to you, which was to use easy and convenient. Too much plastic waste for dine in orders though. Trash can was overflowing from disposable containers thrown out by customers exiting the restaurant.
Really high quality food for a good price! Staff was nice and was a relaxing time. Will 10000% come again! Edit: removed the chicken katsu curry from menu. So sad :( one star reduction from food.
Very yummy!!! We got the ube and brown sugar boba drinks, ton katsu curry, chicken side, a sushi burrito, and the spring/summer/winter poke bowls. Everything was great and very filling.
Unaji roll was actually the best!!! Great portioning, MUST add the spicy miso sauce on the side
Was out running errands in the Haight and wanted a quick bite so trusty Google mentioned this place. So glad it did! It's pretty impressive seeing the girl behind the counter crank out all the orders during lunch. Between 2, we ordered a sushi burrito, mini kaisen don and a eel avo roll. Everything was tasty, not the best it could have been presented given how lightening quick is was being made to keep up with all the tickets for orders. The burrito is so worth it coming with a lot of fish. We even added shrimp tempura so it added to the filling. The Don had plenty of rice, fresh scallop and and ikura. I wish there was a supplement option to add uni but I was full and satisfied. The unagi avo roll was pretty basic and but the flavor was there. Paid around $70 bucks and opted to eat it there in their small dining area. Great fast option!

The bowls are amazing! Very balanced and nice portion of fish. The order came out in 2 minutes and was delicious.
Wonderful neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Understaffed exterior About 7 two tops inside and three outside. Order by inside kiosk. Sunset Tuna Poke included minced regular and cubed (very spicy)spicy Tuna. Farm fresh greens, cubed mango, seaweed salad and lots more ingredients. Hit the spot for great seafood. Matcha drinks also fantastic! If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be a regular customer.
This is a good place to order poke to take out because the dining area is tiny however the prices are reasonable and the fish very fresh and sweet tasting. The portions stt generous as well.
Rolls are yummy, fish tastes fresh, I like the torched salmon to bring out some good flavor. Excellent packaging and appreciated the nice touches like sealed brown bag and branded quality napkins and bamboo chopsticks. the seasoning of this bowl didn’t work for me— something too vinegar either the sushi rice seasoning with the truffle in the dressing on the fish or something else but it ended up just feeling like “too much” with the fatty salmon and the bonito flakes and radish. Instead of indulgent it was a bit nauseating. I would just get rolls next time probably or maybe try the futomakis….!
I’ve only been here once and only had the Katsu Curry to go, this after realizing take-outs were the only option. A solid choice for Japanese Curry and seems like the Poke bowls are a big hit too!

I like the deluxe box and the toro rolls here. I tried the “make your own” poke bowl for the first time today and received all the trash cuts of the salmon. Very tough pieces with the skin still on that I couldn’t even chew. Even worse, after trying 2 pieces, I started seeing the worms in the salmon. Showing that these haven’t been cleaned and processed thoroughly. I am so disgusted especially because these pieces are uncooked so I am way too creeped out to eat this. Going straight in the trash.
I love this place (like I've had it 4x in the past 2 weeks), BUT I found salmon in my tuna bowl tonight. As someone with food allergies, the mix up is very concerning. That said, the food is fantastic, the fish is fresh, and the poke bowl portions are actually solid - something hard to find at poke shops nowadays. The trays, or boxes, are not a great deal. $30 for 8 slices of tuna and some rice is a rip off.
