Macondo San Francisco Reviews
Went for breakfast. Amazing food and service! Their area (basically a breakfast sandwich on a folded fried corn flatbread) was amazeballs. The location is cool, but don't expect a lot of space or places to sit. A couple of small tables inside and out is all they have. Definitely recommend, and will definitely return the next time we're in Alameda. Yum!
Mind blown. Best Colombian pastries and breakfast ever. Their cheese empanadas beats out any sweet pastry at Porto’s in So Cal. Was not expecting this. But just as good was the Farmers Arepa and for My carnivor self I added their beef… just try it. I’ve also returned for their Maracuyà (Passion Fruit) juice.
Tried 1 of each of the baked empanadas and they were so good, buttery and flaky! Our favorite was the guava one and the beef one. There's not really any space at all to sit down so it's mostly just take out. $40 for 5 empanadas
For authentic Colombian food, a wonderful ambiance, and the best service, Macondo is a must try! We have been to Colombia many times & have tried Colombian food stands and restaurants throughout the Bay Area — Macondo is the simply the best! Not only that, the service makes you feel like you are in Colombia. The portions are huge, prices are fair, and the vibe is on point. Check out Macondo to discover what delicious Colombian cuisine is all about!
Food was extremely AMAZING!!!! 🤩 so fresh, tasty and good price. The people who work there, are extremely nice and patient. They gave me a good recommendation on what to get. Highly recommended. Can’t wait to go back!
Very delicious food that tasted fresh. You can tell it was prepared with love. Prices are affordable and I was impressed by the quality. So refreshing to find a place like this. I also liked the decorations and the music they were playing.
This place is sooo good for empanadas and arepas! We got the birria arepa and the banh mi arepa, a cheesy bread, passionfruit juice and chicken empanadas. Arepas were pretty filling, we had chicken empanadas for later and those were so good also! I love the flaky crust and the filling wasn't dry at all. Will definitely be back- all the flavors were delicious! Heads up that this place is more of a takeaway situation- there's no seating inside. Some small cafe tables are available outside on the sidewalk.
One of the best spots to stop by if your craving Columbian food, as a Latina I appreciate this little treat. Had a trip from Oregon to San Francisco and it was a must to go and have some empanadas, the lady who attended was very friendly and patient with us since they had a variety of things in the menu and we couldn’t decide what to grab quick for lunch. Will be stopping back here on my next visit to San Francisco :3 Gracias por hacernos sentir como en casa 🤍
This place will leave you speechless asking for more! Fresh Chicken, Fresh Beef, spices on everything was superb. Started off with the Arepa’s: Colombianisimo: pulled brisket w/ hogao cooked to perfection in between a masa formed pocket with cheese and house sauce.(this was the favorite) Birria Arepa: slow cooked beef w/ pickled carrots. The beef was some of the best Birria meat I have ever tasted! Empanadas: Chicken/Beef were both good but I would choose the chicken because of the sauce that it was paired with.(game changers) Dessert: Arepa de cholco con queso, I wish I had someone making these on call. Like nothing I’ve had before and will be returning for more Authentic Colombian food here in the Bay Area is very hard to find but look no further this gem is a must try. The only thing this place needs but doesn’t is a small bar style seating or a couple tables(4 max)
I love that there’s an empanadas place in Alameda now. Unfortunately I didn’t get to try them this time. I got the Alegria Combo which is two arepas, salad, and a drink. Got the banh mi and pulled pork bbq arepas. Both were super delicious. I definitely have to come back to try the empanadas.
Wonderful flavors. Delicious fruit juice.
The arepas are simply outstanding, and the empanadas are absolutely irresistible! On top of the incredible food, the customer service is top-notch—friendly and welcoming from start to finish. This place is a true hidden gem that I can't recommend enough. As a frequent visitor, I’m always excited to come back for more. If you're looking for authentic Colombian flavors, Macondo is the place to be! ****UPDATE FOR THE LATEST POST!!!!*** Look what I got today—Colombian frijolada from Macondo! Delicious food, the cheese arepas are my favorite with the chicken empanadas, and today I tried the panabonos, oh my, exquisite, the Colombian coffee is my favorite, the service is very good, very friendly, the place is very clean, I 100% recommend this place.😍😍😍

Just had the best Frijolada ( typical Colombian bean soup) in Macondo! So delicious, tastes just like home
Amazing food for everyone, great vegan and gluten free options. Also, their catering is out of this world. They worked with us to create a 100% vegan menu and it came out incredible.
The bread is underrated. It’s a god level bread. Their bread it’s even better than what you can find at any panadería in Colombia. They really got it right, and that healed a part of me. Thank you.
Great food! Love visiting this spot for arepas especially la arepa de chocolo 😋. The spot is very small and could use more seats but very satisfied with the food.
I've enjoyed the excellent food at Macondo Colombian Fusion and wanted to serve it at a get-together for 6 people at my house. I wanted my guests to try out all the wonderful things on the menu but had no idea what to order. I knew I was in good hands when Constanza came to the rescue. She said she could prepare smaller versions of their arepas and empanadas and provide me with a range of choices along with a salad. The entire order was ready when I arrived to pick it up. Nicely packaged and easy to carry. My friend LOVED the food, and we all had a great time. Many thanks to Constanza and Macondo Colombian Fusion for the great food and making my small party a success!
This is so freaking goooood! The empanadas (Beef and chicken) were so freaking good, and the sauce with it is incredible. Mora Juice was truly really good as well. Pan de abono was THE BEST. The guava sauce for it is DELICIOUS.
This little eatery is fantastic! Jacob (one of the owners) is funny and friendly. I just wish it’d be bigger with more indoors seating. It is basically a place where you pick up your food and go back home - unless the weather is nice then you can sit outside. I had an arepa dish, loved it. Whenever I’m in Alameda now, I’ll make sure to sample more of their cuisine!

GO HERE, run HERE! I was nervous as a vegetarian, so I got the farmers arepa, an aborrajado, and a mushroom empanada. Guys.... the farmers arepa BLEW MY MIND. It was SO BIG and so filling, bursting with flavor and love. All of my sisters tried it and were just as in love. I could honestly eat only this for the rest of my days. All for 7 bucks. I couldn't have been higher up in heaven, until I took a bite of the aborrajado, which was filled with delicious carmelized plantain GOODNESS. I'm so confused why there wasn't a line out the door, please go support this place! Their breakfast menu looked INCREDIBLE too. I'm still shocked at how much I got for just a few bucks. I'd pay top dollar for that farmers arepo! Lastly, the women working there were focused on creating fresh and perfected food, yet still wished us a good day and were there to answer my questions. Good vibes!
Macondo-Colombian Fusion is a hidden treasure! From the moment you walk in, you’re met with warm hospitality and an energy that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a little piece of Colombia. The attention to detail is unmatched—every plate is crafted with passion, from the perfectly golden arepas to the rich, flavorful fillings that make every bite unforgettable. The customer service is exceptional. You’re not just another guest here—you’re treated like family, with staff who truly care about your experience. And the food? Absolutely incredible! Fresh, vibrant, and bursting with bold Colombian flavors. Their fresh salads are crisp, colorful, and full of flavor, making the perfect complement to any meal. And don’t leave without trying their refreshing tropical juices—each sip is like a burst of sunshine. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or looking for a meal that transports you, Macondo is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
This Colombian spot offers a decent selection of arepas that hit the mark, but I favor the empanadas. The arepas are okay—flavorful but not the most exceptional I've had. However, the empanadas are a delight, perfectly crispy on the outside and filled with a generous amount of savory goodness.Overall, it's a nice enough place to satisfy your Colombian cravings.To-go only.
