They were pretty busy and seemed a little understaffed. There was a large twxh conference i n town so the management could have predicted this. The staff themselves were great just clearly struggling to keep up with the i creased demand. Coming from a family of german descendants this was comfort food, the snitzel was delicious and they understood the importance of how the potatoes and kraut were not just sides, but truly equal stars in the meal. The beer selection looked great, and made me wish that I could still partake, but having soild na offering helped. Especially the grapefruit soda which added the bitter element needed to complete the full experience of good German food.

Everything was wonderful! Eat, service, atmosphere 10/10. Good attitude toward customer. Eat - very very very tasty! The new best restaurant for us.

Authentic German food and Hofbrau experience in SF! Family style tables. If you’re a regular, you can keep your beer Stein in one of their shelves . Accessible, diverse, inclusive of all folks !

Just stopped in for a quick meal, after a conference. Love the atmosphere and the food was good. I only sat at the bar so "service" really doesn't get included in this review, as you kind of are just there to drink and eating is optional. Having said that, it is kind of expensive but it's also downtown and I guess that's to be expected. I'd go back.

All the food was great and tasty. I ordered: 1. The dish for 20$: - The Frankfurter sausage (pork, oregano, garlic, smocked) was perfect, - garlic mashed potato was creamy, soft garlic taste - pickles were crispy and had delicious taste, - bourbon mustard - sauerkraut was cutted finely and had a light aroma of infused cabbage. 2. Draft beer hofrbrau dunkel (dark lager, Germany) was fresh. They had happy hour. It cost less than usual. ~9$ No waiting time to sit at 3.40 pm Tuesday. 5 minutes waiting time for a beer. 10 minutes waiting time for your main dishes. The staff (Stefania D) was polite. They have huge tables for the big companies. Thank you!

Took my parents here for a unique experience and they loved it! We ordered two beer flights for drinks, and for food got Kartoffel tots, Jager schnitzel, Bavarian Crispy Pork Shank, and One sausage platter with two sausages - Frankfurter and Sicilian. The portions are huge but we did our best to finish most of it. Inside the restaurant, the area that's nearer to the entrance is for bar/low-key hangout where I saw some people grab drinks together after work or for dates. Further in from the entrance is the dining area where I saw some people sit down and order meals. Price is pretty reasonable given that this is SF / their portions are generous. I also enjoyed the German flights as well!

The pretzel is great. Be sure to get the cheese. The chicken schnitzel sliders and the pork shank are also really good. I would skip the loaded tots. More than anything they were too salty.

Wonderful restaurant with delicious and hearty food!!! The service was also top notch even though they were packed with large groups and corporate parties. This is a great place for large groups with an awesome atmosphere as well!

Very good schnitzel and spaetzle. The pretzel is also amazing and very much worth getting the beer cheese with it. I got the sour beer and the cider on tap, which were a little pricey, but not bad at all. Had a great time.

My brother loves beer and we get together a couple times a month. We had not been there in years, and this is where I remember them having a great beer selection. They have really done a great job on the remodel and the music is at a level you can talk at! The food was good and the beer was great. I will be back!

A decent enough place with good beer and okay food. Nothing special. The service was good.

A great place to visit. We were there on a Wednesday night for happy hour. The happy hour menu was not appealing to my taste, and the glass of red wine seemed like a short pour. They seemed to be a little too busy for the number of servers. Our server was great, just too distracted with all the tables they had to serve.

I was there with my 3 colleagues from work for dinner on Wednesday July 10, 2024. The place was packed and very, very loud. Both doors to the restaurant were open. So we were sitting outside. You need to order using your phone. Service was fast and friendly. As I am German, I was asked to order for everyone. I got half liter of Hofbraeu Helles, which were great and I can recommend. Then as appetizer the large Brezen (correct German is with a 'B'). The Brezen was a soft one and was disappointing. Not something I would get in Germany. Didn't even taste as I am used to. Then we got the vegetable plate with Spaetzle [Spa:etzle]. I liked that one. We also order two types of Schnitzel. I think one was the chicken and the other was pork. The real Wiener Schnitzel is supposed to be with veal. Both were fried and tasted good. We also got the Wurstplate (sausage plate) which was disappointing. The sausage were too fatty. Schroeder is ok, good enough, and seems very popular. What really matters in a German Beerhall is the atmosphere and the beer, also known as Gemuetlichkeit. Schroeder has that. I may be back but more for the beer.

Went here for the first time in years! The place got a full make over prior to the pandemic and it is beautiful inside and much bigger then I remember. I was there for an event, so we had buffet lunch, but the variety was great and overall the food was good. I will be back to try the regular menu for sure.

Lots of large tables for bigger groups, I suppose it's to cater the office happy hours all around. The drinks are fine, the food is mediocre. Although I wouldn't necessarily recommend the food by itself, when you are drinking and the hunger hits you, it's not too bad. So overall, a decent bar to grab some drinks, and maybe a bite, and chat away.

They sell a sausage that they call "Käsekrainer" which is basically inedible. The mashed potatoes and the sauerkraut accompanying it however, are very good

Food was decent (though not spectacular) and the beer was good. Solid variety of brews available. Very overpriced though, even for a fidi bar.

I wanted to love it, I really did. I was born in Berlin (Army Brat) and I love good German food. Today for Dinner I ordered the Belgian Fries (Which came with an aioli and "curry ketchup") and the brat. Starting with the fries - the fries themselves were great, as was the Aioli. Nice and crisp with just the right amount of salt. When you get to the curry ketchup - I don't know if I got the wrong thing or they are trying too hard. It tasted like a curry marinara sauce, and not curry ketchup. Curry Ketchup, even in the best german places is just Ketchup + Curry Powder. This had a watery consistency that wasn't quite ketchup and wasn't quite marinara. There was a hint of curry, but honestly I kept thinking it was some sort of marinara. I didn't use it because it was just off. The Brat was better, though the actual sausage tasted like no Brat I'd had before. But that's not a bad thing, just different. I think its a fresh sausage vs. processed sausage thing. I will say the sauerkraut did taste like it came directly out of the can, and mixed with mustard they used overpowered the entire flavor profile. Typically you'd braise the sauerkraut and that over sour flavor gets a bit milder. But with this, it was just a really bitter sour bite that made the flavor of the other tasty sausage disappear. I'll go back and try other things - I was just disappointed today that nothing really hit the spot I was expecting. **AS A NOTE** I did order this for pick up via grubhub - and the food was still hot and tasty when I picked it up!

I spent $38 with a $3 tip for a tiny coke with no refill and a pretty lousy schnitzel. The biggest issue was the qr code ordering because I wasn't able to see what came with the entree and I got a lot of stuff on my plate that didn't taste very good but even if it weren't for the pretty gross gravy the meat itself wasn't better. It's a good place if you're here to drink and get handhelds like a pretzel or tots but me and all my friends agreed our entrees all were overpriced and dull tasting.

sauerkraut to feed a small village: pretty disappointing… we got the bratwurst plate ($20) frankfurter plate ($20), and chicken schnitzel ($26). The mashed potatoes were watery and grainy (most definitely an instant mashed potato) and the plate was mostly sauerkraut. The chicken was good but dry and the sausages were pretty flavorless. The “potato salad” was oddly sour, maybe it was more sauerkraut in disguise. Overall, might be a good place to watch the game, but not for a sit-down dinner.
