Tomokazu San Francisco Reviews
Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi, esp for the price!! got 6piece salmon avo which was very fresh plus a piping hot miso soup w mushroom and tofu all for $16. amazing as far as airport fare goes.
The chairs are bulky and heavy. With smaller chairs, more can be seated. What I ate was good - unagi avocado rolls, avocado rolls, vegetables tempura and miso soup. Service was good too. Food was served pretty fast though busy.
Delicious sushi, visibly prepared with care and fresh ingredients. The restaurant offers subdued lighting and a warm atmosphere. There are wooden tables and seating inside as well as in the surrounding area, making it easy to find a quiet space. It was a light, late night snack while I waited for my connecting flight at SFO, and I can now say I had California rolls in California.
It’s a hidden gem inside the San Francisco airport. The Japanese food here is unbelievably good, and the fish was incredibly fresh. I savored the Hamachi and Chu-Toro nigiri — amazingly delicious, clean, and wholesome. I also treated myself to a Sapporo Premium beer and a refreshing Yuzu Kimino. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m in this airport. And there was this special feeling too — as if, amid the rush of the terminals, I found a small island of quiet and flavor, where time slows down just enough to let you enjoy something truly perfect. ❤️
Tomokazu was a great experience. The food was reasonably priced for an airport restaurant, and the portions were generous. Despite the crowds, there was plenty of seating, and they provided a device to notify you when your food is ready. The friendly staff and clean restaurant made it a pleasant dining experience.
I am surprised by the quality of the ramen. It is in airport but definitely much better than many of the ramen places in the bay. The pork is very tender, flavorful. Love it. The ramen soup is hot and tasty. And the egg was cooked to perfection. Portion is great for the price. I mean a bowl of this in any restaurant in the bay would be 20 bucks nowadays. And this i paid only 17.5 in an airport. Not sure what the other people are talking about when they complain about the price seriously.
Japanese cuisine at the airport if you want to get sushi they have a lot of choices they also have takeout boxes of different sushi’s photos of show the menu as well as the Takeaway sushi options. The beef udon noodles In give a 7.5. The noodles are delicious, broth okay, and beef was too much fat. The spicy tuna roll was a 8.6! Sushi here is 5 stars! Way good and yummy. Overall price isn’t too bad either.
Quality of sashimi was surprisingly well. Yellow tuna cuts was like butter. Grab and go orders are very convenient along with quality is what I enjoyed about this hidden gem. Def coming back when given the opportunity.
Honestly pretty great for the airport. Ramen was solid, esp for the price compared to other fare available nearby. This place raises the overall avg of SFO’s options, and is on the better end overall of available options
Good place! We went for lunch at 1pm waiting for our flight. They have a bunch of different things: sushi rolls, nigiri, rice bowls, noodles. We went for tuna nigiris and two rice bowls: salmon teriyaki and gyudon (meat). Both very good, fresh, decent portion. Nigiri was good too, you can see both chefs cutting fish right across when you enter to the place. It was a busy day but overall the speed was good. Pricing is actually decent, despite being in the airport. You can check the menu I uploaded for reference. Would swing by again if in SF!
Excellent Japanese food for Asian especially when you feel cold and exhausted.😉I was struggling between Tomokazu and Asian box. But glad that I chose Tomokazu even though i heard the staff speak Cantonese.🤣I like the rice, for its more like Japanese rice, soft and kinda sticky❤️.the portion of beef is also big enough for a hungry person. I found a small guy only finished 50% of the chicken rice and left.😂the sashimi is fresh, however i need to fly in one hour and raw fish is not my 1st choice. But its quite worthy in comparison to the same dish outside of the airport.
Nov 2024 A new visit after their long renovation period. I was pleasantly surprised with improved interior from decore and ambiance perspectives. The food, at least the one I tried, was tastier than before with balanced flavor and ingredients. Will try other items next time. Previous visits (Pre renovation) It is only worthy Japanese place, among many. at SFO, though the atmosphere and service are not so friendly. Sashimi, though I didn't buy it during this visit, it looked fresh and good.
My family was trying to find something to eat during a layover at 10pm on a Saturday night, and were delighted to see that there was a Japanese restaurant open. It was pretty busy so we were looking forward to trying it. I got the nabeyaki udon. The soup was normal and the noodles were cooked as you would expect. What I really liked were the seafood toppings. The scallop was really plump and tender. The shripm tasted a bite under-seasoned but the texture was good. The salmon (which I'm not used to having in udon) was really perfectly cooked and very tender/melt-in-your-mouth. The fish cakes and other toppings were good as well. Overall this was a surprisingly good dish for airport food that doesn't break the budget. We also got the tempura udon and tonkotsu ramen. The tempura udon was not as good as the nabeyaki -- the tempura coating is quite thick so it's hard to taste what's inside. We ended up taking off a lot of the tempura, especially for the big broccoli piece. The ramen I didn't eat as much of but I heart that it was pretty good with a good soup base and lots of noodles. We also got the sushi combo. I tried the spicy tuna roll and it was actually quite good with a good kick to it. My brother seemed to enjoy the other pieces as well. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this restaurant given the time and that it was airport food. If I were in SFO again and needed food this would be a solid option. Of course this is not the type of restaurant I'd choose to go to out in the wild but for an airport it's quite good and hits the spot. My brother gave it an 8.7/10.
After a long flight and a layover at SFO, I was on the hunt for something satisfying to eat. I stumbled upon Tomokazu and decided to give it a try, even though I knew airport prices would be high. ✈️ The sushi combo I ordered was definitely the highlight of the meal. The fish tasted incredibly fresh for an airport restaurant, and the rolls were well-made. 🍣 It was a good bite and really hit the spot. I just wish it wasn't so expensive! However, the rest of the meal was a bit of a letdown. I was really craving a good bowl of ramen, but the house ramen was a disappointment. The broth was bland and lacked the rich, savory flavor I was hoping for. 🍜 It felt like something was missing. The gyoza were also just average—not crispy, not super flavorful, just... meh. In the end, it was a very mixed experience. The sushi was good, but the high price combined with the lackluster ramen and gyoza made me feel a bit underwhelmed. For that reason, I'd rate it 3 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐
It’s convenient and fast! Nice interior as well. But in terms of food, it’s very underwhelming. Got their teriyaki chicken bowl, chicken fat not trimmed, portions small, taste like store bought sauce, it’s $16.50. Assorted sushi came with lots of spicy tuna, 3 decent fish, one unappealing tuna, one overcooked dry shrimp. Everything is overpriced which is understandable since it’s the airport. It’s really sad how they put no effort since most of their customers will never return since they’re only getting something since they would have to fly soon.
