El Amigo San Jose Reviews
Went during the week to have dinner for my Mother-in-Law’s birthday. Very clean and a beautiful restaurant. Food was fantastic, I ordered a wet carne asada burrito with red sauce & guacamole to have with our chips. The chips were very fresh & nice & hot when served to our table! Service was outstanding & they do a great job in making sure your soda & waters are filled without asking. :) Definitely a great spot for Mexican food with great service! Will be coming back as my husband’s Mom loved it. Thank you for the great food & service!
I love this place. Good food good atmosphere. Friendly people they help you if you need it. If your not sure what you want they will suggest something for you. They bring you chips and salsa to your table. They even have outdoor seating. Kid friendly and wheelchair accessible.
Great place for Mexican food! The service is always friendly, their churro ice cream sundae is AMAZING. Sometimes I come to the restaurant only for that sundae! The staff is always understanding and the food tastes great.
I ordered the margarita on the rocks with birria tacos, and both were absolutely amazing! The margarita was perfectly balanced—refreshing and not too sweet. The birria tacos were packed with flavor, with tender, juicy meat. I was extremely satisfied with the quality of the food and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend
Myself and a friend recently had lunch here and the food was very good plus the strawberry margarita was perfect. Loved sitting outside on the patio plus I was allowed to have my dog with us during lunch. That's extra extra points especially when I'm socializing her and she was very well behaved. All the staff was friendly and food was served in an appropriate time and enjoyed the atmosphere. Definitely will be returning!
First time here and we really enjoyed it. Table side fresh guacamole was excellent. Margaritas were very good to but a little to big for me. Next time I will order a smaller one. Our dinner came out hot and delicious. I had 2 beef enchiladas with rice and beans but was only able to finish one. Definitely give you a lot of food. Staff was very friendly and made sure our needs were met. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends. There was also live music outside for outside diners.
This place has a very nice setting, friendly service, and food bursting with flavors. The tortillas are made fresh and served warm with food. There salsa is very good, not bland like other places. They even have a spicy salsa if you ask. We had enchiladas, Chile Verde, Chili Colorado, & menudo. They were all very good. The agua de Jamaica was is a must here! They also have a nice looking brunch buffet if you are very hungry. Can't wait to come back on my next visit to San Jose.
This is my family’s Go To restaurant for celebrations. The servers are quick and attentive. There is spacious indoor dining and they have a nice sized patio that is accommodating for my small dog. The chips, salsa and fresh guacamole are the best! You can’t go wrong with the crunchy tacos and sizzling fajitas.
First time here. Their Machaca was delicious and one of the best I've had. Family members had the posole and they were not impressed. Service was a bit slow but it was mother's day so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. We sat outside and the atmosphere was chill and relaxing. I may not go out of my way to go here again but if I'm in south San Jose I may go back.
Went here last year, enjoyed it so much I came back. Had the machaca today, chilli relanos last time. Both are good. The machaca could have been a little more flavorful, but I get it, not all people can handle the spice. Nothing some salsa can't fix. Will probably make this a routine meeting spot.
The food was good, but not the best I've had. In comparing it to other mexican restaurants and being Mexican myself, I'm a tough critic. The menu was large, and the atmosphere was comfortable. The waiter was a very cordial, nice guy, and ensured we had everything we needed. I had a combination plate with chile relleno, enchilada, and crispy beef taco. Chile relleno was very good, especially with the Ranchero sauce. The crispy taco and enchilada were both beef, and the meat was a a little on the mushy side for me but still had a good flavor. I finished it off with deep-fried ice cream, which I was happy to see on the menu. Not a lot of places have this dessert. Dinner and dessert were good. I would recommend this place although it's not my first choice.
5 of us tried this place for the first time on a recommendation from a co-worker. It was really busy for a Wednesday dinner time. Waitress was nice, funny and spoke mostly Spanish to us. We waited almost an hour for food, but were given chips and salsa as we waited. Decor was nice too. Food came, rice and beans good all around. Burritos filled with beans and meat were good. Crispy taco came with chicken, I asked for beef. Both tacos were greasy. 1 bite of chicken taco, meat was dry. A fixed beef taco finally arrived but meat had weird taste to it. It did not look like shredded beef or ground beef to me. I did not eat the tacos. We did get table side quacamole made so fresh and quite tasty. I just wish the avocados were cold. Also wish that for about 12 dollars... wish they had used more than 2 avocados for 5 people. Everyone liked their respective combo plates of a burrito and tamale, super good and enchilada, good too. Taco salad no picture was good, but filling inside was sparse. The fried chicken with fries and rice and beans was awesome. Overall, service was good. Food was ok. Prices were about 18 to 20 bucks a plate. Many plates came with Rice, beans and a small salad. Only 1 woman bathroom and 1 man bathroom. Both dirty, but maybe because they were so busy. Waitress mentioned that during the week it is not as busy ... but weekends do get busy.
Great food - friendly staff - they really tried hard to make sure it was an enjoyable evening and meal. The venue was very clean and the menu was true to form of any decent Mexican restaurant. Had a bit of an incident with a bus boy throwing water around that hit us, but the management took care of it immediately!
The ambience at El amigo is awesome! The first thing I noticed was their outdoor seating area, which is comfortable and yet shady. Very inviting. And inside is spacious and clean. They have a nice big bar and beautiful wood furniture. Very comfortable. The service is pretty quick and friendly. I thought the food was just average. Though they do give a nice size Mojito! The Machaca with chorizo sausage was pretty good, but a little over salty. I know chorizo is salty, but not this salty. And the Carnitas looks incredible, but it really wasn’t that flavorful. Same with the table salsa. Looks great, tastes okay, but a little on the bland side. I feel like I should give it another try because everything just looks so delicious. It’s just that the flavorful fullness didn’t match the looks.
when you get tired of fast food mexican, this is a solid option for a sit-down meal. when you consider that you get free chips n salsa, it’s a good deal! i had the wet burrito lunch special and it was very satisfying. the atmosphere was festive so i almost ordered a margarita… almost hehe, it wasn’t even noon yet. maybe a night out.
Who makes an enchilada without any sauce? Pathetic experience and the service is terrible and worst. We recently moved to San Jose and this place is situated right across our home so we decided to try. It turned out to be the worst experience, we liked tamale and that is why I am rating them one star. When we ordered enchiladas, the server asked us what sauce to make it with, red or green to which we said red but when they served, it had no sauce. We asked her and she was rude to tell us that this is what you get when you order veggie enchiladas. Our server didn’t understand English and had no patience while we were looking at the menu, we have been to many places where server would help you pick something if you are visiting for the first time, however this place doesn’t care. Please avoid this place.
