Puerto Azul San Jose Reviews
Love this place! It is my go to for shrimp cocktail and chicken enchiladas. I love their chips and salsa. I could have that with just a Michelada or two!
We come here in groups of friends and family. I really like all the dishes I have tired. Definitely a must to stop and try.
This place had great food and service. Came for a visit with friend, they didn't mind us sitting and chatting for over an hour. Checked on us regularly. Delicious, spicy salsa provided with fresh chips. So good
Such a great atmosphere. The service was amazing. The wait staff were very attentive and responsive to any requests.
Great Authentic Mexican Food specializing in Seafood, Soups, and other delicious dishes. Been coming here for 3 years and my Family loves it here. Niner game, Soccer and main Event are shown here. Birria Quesodillas y Tacos are on the money. Highly recommend this spot then the others down the Street. This place is worth the price! Promise.
First off I'd like to say... Puerto Azul is one of those places to go for Molcajetes and Mariscos. We did both today. My wife and I normally come to eat here for special occasions and it's always a nice atmosphere and terrific service. I'm posting several pictures today to show the beautiful presentation. The menu gives several items that are all delicious in my opinion. Today we went for an early supper and we tried a new item we've never had.. on the menu it's described as a pineapple filled with seafood. One ingredient that sort of killed the dish was an overwhelming amount of cheese all over the seafood inside the sweet pineapple. We also had some awesome azul oysters, queso con chorizo and a seafood Molcajete. We couldn't finish everything and asked to to go containers for our soon to be midnight snacking. We then get up to pay and I believe it was a manager on duty helped ring it all up and I paid the bill. Sometimes I keep things to myself when I think I could be wrong.. but not this time because I felt like it could make a difference in case someone else wasn't expecting a ton of cheese all over this tasty seafood. I pointed out the menu to him and said it doesn't say these dishes have cheese as an ingredient and my wife disliked her plate. He looked very surprised and insisted it in fact does say it does. I wasn't trying to argue but merely suggest the wait-staff should notify customers that in fact there is a ton of cheese not just on the Pineapple but also in the molcajete. He wasn't willing to see what the menu actually said and I dropped it and said hey you don't need to hear what I'm saying but its your choice to satisfy your customers. I would have easily given a 5 star review... there is no 4.5 stars so 4 it is... I will be going back but now I know I need to request that an ingredient not be added that was never supposed to be there in the first place... ok that's my review... I still love you Puerto Azul.. just work on your people skills... awesome waitress by the way. I didn't catch her name. Also a small detail makes a difference.... I was charged an extra dollar for an Ice Tea over the menu price.
Evening Visit Since the re-opening of outdoor dining, I would say food is 3.5. I order the cheese enchiladas and the cheese inside wasn't completely melted, we also ordered a molcajete and the meat was a bit dry, however, flavor was pretty good. Longer wait times from the time you order to the time your food is on the table. Customer service is a 3.5, not sure if its because they are overwhelmed. BE AWARE: They charge 3.5% fee to your bill when you pay with your credit/debit card. We noticed an increase on our bill and asked if the tip was automatically added. This was never mentioned when we were presented our bill nor do they have any signs posted anywhere. If you plan on dining there, bring cash with you to avoid this fee. Some parking available on the street and at the back. Some of their parking lot is being used up for outdoor dining set up. Mask required when you walk to your table, when you leave, and restroom use. All waiters were wearing masks and gloves. They are definitely following safety protocols.
It's been about 9 years since we last went and we still like the food. Favorites are the crunch taco, street tacos, burrito and the Mocajete dishes and especially the Mocajete de Mariscos (seafood in a stone bowl). My kids like the cheese quesadilla which is pretty standard. They have beer, alcohol and live music on the weekends so it can get busy. Service is good but wait for check can take some time if they are busy. Inside and outside seating. The shared parking lot can we difficult to get a spot on the weekends. Will be back again the next time we are in town.
I like to go to this place for a good molcajete and a michelada. Just keep in mind the molcajete is pretty big so you will need to share. My kids like the tacos and enchiladas. Another thing to keep in mind is their mole is dark and little sweet. I like mine with no chocolate but everyone has a different way of making it. The customer service can me a hit or a miss. Overall the food is good and the service is so-so.
Came on a Saturday brunch with 2 others. Was steady flow of people, didn't make reservations but sat down where there were a few open tables. Service was subpar as it took at least 10 minutes to take our order and they forgot our drink order at the beginning when they sat us and had to pay at the counter before waiter came with our check (because it took so long and felt like they forgot us). Food presentation was good but was nothing extraordinary or exemplary - they got our special order correct on first attempt though! Sauces are spicy (good) and chorizo and chicken were okay. Main positive was no wait time (other than the wait for order) and staff were amicable.
There was a group of 4 of us and we all ordered enchiladas. However we had to wait a while to get service. The place wasn't crowded. It seemed like they forgot we were outside. My friends ordered the chicken enchiladas which were okay to there standards. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and thought they were really good. Although for some reason my enchiladas were bigger than those, and we did have to wait at least 20 minutes for the food to come out. But the shrimp enchiladas were enough for two people. I personally thought the food was good, including the warm tortilla chips, however the service was disappointing.
Took my Mother there for dinner. Everyone in the room wore coats as it was very cold. My waiter told me to walk over to the bar on another side for margaritas. Decided not to order one. Our food was bland. Slightly sloppy. The most disturbing thing was our waiter mopped under the table near us and continued serving food all without gloves on. His nails were black as a result. Never going back again.
*Rubber Glove Found in Food – No Accountability from Staff* I’ve given this restaurant a few chances over the years since it’s local and I genuinely love Mexican food—but after this last visit with my family, I won’t be returning. We came in this Sunday after church, so we expected it to be busy and were patient with the wait to be seated. That wasn’t a big deal. But the attitude of the waiter who took our order was unacceptable. My 69-year-old dad, who has some hearing challenges and doesn’t go out to eat often, asked a simple question about what came with his meal. The waiter rolled his eyes, slapped his pen against his notepad, and gave short, passive-aggressive responses. Completely uncalled for. The food took a long time to arrive, again—understandable given the day. But the real issue? My dad found a rubber latex glove inside his burrito. At first, we thought it might’ve been a chile, but it was clearly a glove that had been cooked into the food. We notified the staff immediately. Instead of addressing the situation, every single employee went to sing happy birthday to another table. No one stayed back to handle what was a serious health concern. Eventually, someone came to the table asking what was wrong—only to cut us off and say he already knew. If he already knew, why ask what’s wrong? Just address the situation. Then the manager finally shows up, looks at the glove, and asks which meal it came from. He says he’ll go talk to the kitchen, then disappears. No one followed up. No one told us what was happening. We were left sitting there, not knowing if we should stay or leave. When I asked about the bill, I was told we’d still be charged—no apology, no accountability, just attitude. I had to press to even get a receipt. And despite asking again if someone was going to come back to address the issue, nothing happened. We left feeling ignored, disrespected, and honestly, disgusted. This wasn’t just bad service—it was a complete breakdown in basic hospitality and food safety. I’m extremely disappointed. I truly hope management sees this review and has a serious conversation with their team about customer service, communication, and quality control. This experience should never happen to anyone else.
So yesterday me and my family ate at this restaurant and we have ate here before so we thought this time was going to be the same because they always have great customer service and the food is usually pretty up to par, but yesterday the server looked a little irritated serving us mind you it was only 3 adults 2 kids so it wasn’t a huge table. The service I don’t mind whatever maybe he was busy or had a bad day but the food was more disgusting than usual. We had ordered shrimp cocktail and a half dozen of oysters my stomach started to hurt a couple of hours after and in the morning I started to throw up and have food poisoning like symptoms. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT I’m now at the ER
