Adorable, and opens before the gardens do, if you need a place to wait before it opens.
Awesome ice cream and drinks after a beautiful stroll through the gardens
No keto options, those they have aren't healthy
Was hanging out with the boss man
Excellent food.
There’s a really nice café right at the entrance (or exit) of the Huntington Library. We usually stop by for snacks and drinks after we finish exploring the gardens and museums. The food is good, and the staff are super friendly.
Amazing honey lavender ice cream and coffee cake. Mocha coffee was a bit rich and dark chocolate instead of milk. So good. But be prepared. Cute interior. Extra seating outside.
Amazing chai tea and delicious pasties.
A very nice stop for us after strolling through the gardens on a warm day. They have quite a few different flavors of ice cream and sorbets. I got the passion fruit sorbet which was delicious. They also carry quite a few pastries including some unique flavors for donuts. The seating area outside is nice as well.
After a few hours of walking through the Huntington gardens, we made a pit stop at the Red Car Coffee shop for coffee & pastries. The blueberry muffin and mushroom swiss pastry were SO TASTY. Also I love the interior design!
A great cafe to pick up a coffee or hot chocolate with a croissant for a simple breakfast before heading into the Hunting Library for a walk. This cafe fills the gaps before 1919 Cafe opens at noon time. Red cafe serves the best coffee from illy. I really like their hot chocolate though. It’s rich but not overly creamy. Besides croissants, Red Cafe has yogurt with fruits, chicken sandwiches and other breakfast items. They also have full stocks of power bars and cookies. There are a few tables inside the cafe but outdoor seatings are plenty. Don’t need to buy a entrance ticket to dine here. The Cafe offers decent WI-FI for people want to do their remote work from here.
Very nice spot. Prices are a bit high but matcha was great and the vegan cookie too.

Delicious iced espresso and Matcha!
Prices are a little higher as expected at a touristy spot like this. Got a cold coffee which was fine but $4. Nitro cold brew was $7.
We stopped off for a treat to cool us down after visiting the gardens and before we left. They did have a gluten free cookie and ice cream available for those with gluten allergies (me!). My husband got a pastry, and my daughter and I chose some yummy ice cream and sorbet. My daughter also chose an iced green tea. Seating is very limited, but there is outdoor seating as well nearby. Staff were friendly, and our (small) order came quickly.
Red Car Coffee Shop is a delightful spot for coffee enthusiasts and visitors looking for a cozy break. With its inviting atmosphere and an array of coffee blends and pastries, it's a perfect place to unwind. What's even better, members of the Huntington Library enjoy a special discount here, making it a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists.
This is the best reheated egg and cheese crossiant I've ever had by far

A perfect little stop right by the entrance to grab coffee and a pastry before wandering into the Japanese Garden. Cute spot, good coffee, and very conveniently located, exactly what you want to ease into a visit. That said, the line moved at a pace that could best be described as meditative. Like, deeply aligned with the calm energy of the gardens, just maybe a little too aligned. The two guys behind the counter seemed entirely unbothered by the line stretching out the door. Still, once you get your coffee, it’s all worth it. Just plan accordingly and maybe practice a little patience before your stroll
Everytime I come, I get a coffee and a pastry! Apple pie Muffin: 7/10 - exactly what you’d expect. More muffin than apple though! Very moist though! Not dry. Coffee cake: 10/10 - If you like sweet coffee.. get it! Not dry at all! Caramel macchiato: ice: 5/10- it’s okay. It was more watered down for some reason. Vanilla latte: 7/10 - it’s what you’d expect! They ran out of whole milk so we substitute it for almond milk. Price: it’s high but I come once a year so I still come! Interior: it has seating and could get crowded! Theres lots of seating outside!
Red car is a nice little coffee shop that conveniently located at the Huntington library (right by the entrance). They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Except drinks and pastries, I'm glad that they also sell Fosselman's ice cream, sandwiches, yoghurt parfait, fruits and snacks in the store. They opens early at 8am, and drinks and food are allowed to bring into the Huntington library.
Great little cafe right at the entrance to the Huntington so you can grab a coffee before heading into the gardens. Unfortunately when I asked for a cold brew (at 10:30am), they were out, so I got a cappuccino instead. Also, it's a little pricey, so be prepared to shell out a bit of cash if you want any of the various snacks they have on display. But great coffee for a nice stroll through some beautiful gardens!
Tiny little grab n’ go cafe at the Huntington. I got a delicious almond croissant that was filled with a yummy custard and a small iced coffee for about $12. Pricey but good quality pastry and coffee in my opinion so it was worth it!
Ended our visit with an iced coffee and chocolate croissant. The baked goods aren’t cheap but the quality was ok.

Food is good. The staff cannot handle high volume, getting orders wrong and and not acting polite.
The coffee smells really nice there but I never tried it
Simply okay coffee. The Red Car is featured inside of the Huntington Library. They offer a variety of drinks, ice cream, and coffee. I had an iced coffee with oat milk. The service was really nice and helpful. The coffee tasted as though it were made of the instant coffee, having a weird grainy consistency as well. I didn’t try any pastries, but I’d say if you’re already there, check it out. It’s definitely not worth making the trip just for this shop, though.

I got the caramel macchiato. Same problem with a lot of places - sweet stuff sank to the bottom. Espresso had this bitter, metallic taste. Not my first time experiencing this here. The ambiance is lovely when no one is in there. It takes me back a few decades in my imagination, certainly. It feels like I’m somewhere else entirely, like a bustling city street corner in the northeast United States, but right in the middle of the Huntington, with no one else around. Unique experience. The ice cream is the attraction for me - of the thicker, richer variety. I forget - I believe it is provided by McConnell’s.
I generally have positive experiences but encountered some passive aggressive customer service today from one of the employees. After getting my order, I asked about membership discount. She made an unnecessary comment that it usually needs to be said at the start. I respectfully let her know that it was my first time trying to apply the discount as a new member. Then as I tried to pay, she got distracted by something and I was left alone to complete the transaction. When it wasn't working a few times, I asked if they accept contactless payment. She again had a passive aggressive tone as she responded saying that the machine was asking me a question. The whole encounter could've been so much more different if she was more kind and professional in her demeanor but she spoke to me as if I was a nuisance.

Quite rude staff at the register/pick-up area.
Too expensive. 3 lattes are $25
Quite rude staff at the register/pick-up area.
This place is a rip off. $ 18.77 for 2 large, ice caramel macchiato, over 9 dollars for a drink.
The place is nice but worst coffee ever
Just before ringing up an order of about $30, my friend was interested in getting some ice cream and asked if they could try a sample of the peach flavor. Which the person behind the counter replied, “we don’t give out samples.” I was very taken aback, as what establishment that sells ice cream doesn’t give out a taste of their wares? We would have bought the ice cream if we could have tried it first. But the whole interaction felt very discriminatory and left me feeling very uncomfortable for my friend.
