Delicious Thai food! It's very authentic and traditional. My go-to dishes are: Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, Fried Rice, Green Curry. It's affordable and the portions are generous. And guess what? They actually give you white rice with your curry! (Most restaurants don't do that anymore.) Definitely one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Bay Area. I've been here at least 30-40 times in the past three years. If you're reading this, make sure you go!

10/10 no notes, jk. It can feel small and cramped for a bit once you enter, but once u settle in, it’s comforting and an enjoyable place to dine. Got the pad see ew, yellow curry, and crispy pork fried rice. Pad see ew 10/10 no notes, yellow curry an 8, the fried rice is a 9.5. 100/10 would come again. Reasonably priced, monies worth and bellies full. 🤭😋😋

Yummy food although slightly too sweet for my preference, friendly customer service, and a pretty view of the rainy downtown🌷

We got the yellow curry with duck. It has a mild sweetness which we loved! Careful the duck has some bones though.

WOW! Their food was SO delicious! Their pad see ew was so chewy and yummy, and the pad Thai was so flavorful too. The yellow curry was amazing too. The inside is super trendy and cute, lots of lights and flowers. The staff was so attentive, and the food came extremely fast. Highly recommend!!

For and service were great. Prices are competitive. Pad thai was excellent. Just the right amount of spicy and flavor. Thai ice tea felt like it was home brewed. Great experience.

Pad see ew was great, curry was great too. Mango sticky rice was a little bit disappointing but overall, good service, and great little place to eat at if you want Thai food & also a downtown setting.

Our first time in new Thai elephant restaurant is a good experience. We ordered two curries including Tom Yum soup based. Since we have kids, they made it very mild so event they can enjoyed it. In general, food are delicious as we expected. Service is fast as well.

Tried the new Thai Elephant in San Mateo and had a great first experience. We ordered the roasted duck noodle soup, Pad Kee Mao with beef, and Thai iced tea. The roasted duck noodle soup was flavorful and comforting, with tender duck and a well-seasoned broth. The Pad Kee Mao had great stir-fry aroma, good spice, and perfectly chewy noodles. The Thai iced tea was classic and refreshing, just the right sweetness. Service was warm and quick, and we really enjoyed the cozy booth seating and relaxed atmosphere. Overall, a tasty meal and look forward to trying more dishes next time!

The Pad Thai was tasty but a bit dry. I asked for no peanuts, but they still served them on the side. The pineapple fried rice was a hit, my favorite! And the Thai iced tea was the cutest ever, with a bear-shaped ice on top. Highly recommend this restaurant. Service is fast!

If you’re looking for authentic Thai flavors with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, New Thai elephant is a must-visit. We tried the Green Curry Chicken and crab fried rice were absolute standouts—rich, aromatic, and perfectly seasoned. The spice level was customizable, which is a great touch for those who like their food milder or extra hot. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and our food arrived promptly. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Parking was easy, and they also offer takeout and delivery options.

✨ Absolutely loved our experience at New Thai Elephant! ✨ From the moment we walked in, everything was perfect — the vibe is super cute and welcoming, with a gorgeous flower wall and cozy lighting that makes the space feel warm and lively. We ordered: 🌴 Pineapple Fried Rice – loaded with flavor and the perfect mix of sweet and savory. 🍜 Pad Thai – classic and SO satisfying with just the right kick. 🔥 Gra Prow Moo Krob – crispy pork stir-fried with Thai chili, basil, and veggies… insanely good! 🧋 And let’s not forget the Thai iced tea topped with the most adorable bear-shaped ice — almost too cute to drink (but we did, and it was amazing)! The food came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. Service was super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. You can really tell the staff cares about the whole dining experience. We’re already planning our next visit. Highly recommend if you’re craving flavorful Thai food in a fun, photo-worthy setting! 🙌💕

First time going there, food was good, big portions, very tasty. Server forgot my drink but charged me for it, but another server really nice lady, took off the charge and it wasn't a big fuzz. The plantain dessert was delicious.

Very fast service - so if you are hungry it’s a great stop for lunch or dinner. Ordered green curry and it was quite nice. I have also ordered delivery from here and the quality has been consistent.

New Thai Elephant @200 S B St, San Mateo, CA 94401 The place is easy to find, located right on the corner of the street. It’s tidy and clean, with plenty of seating—tables for groups of 2 up to 6 people. The menu is easy to read, though it would be better with photos. Ordering was simple, and the food was served within about 30 minutes. I ordered the green curry with rice. It didn’t have much coconut milk, but the curry itself was tasty. I chose chicken as my protein; it was shredded into small portions and felt like a single serving. There’s a note at the counter offering free ice cream if you leave a Google review while on-site, but I didn’t have time to do it. Overall, it’s budget-friendly. I can only judge based on the green curry, but it’s worth trying if you’re looking for an affordable option.

We were quite hungry after running some errands, and based on the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. It’s a fairly small restaurant with only three booth-style seats and mostly small tables. Honestly, the tables for two felt a bit cramped, so we were lucky to get a booth. We ordered a vegetable broth soup, which had a light, clean flavor. It was good, especially since you can adjust it with spices provided. I also had the pumpkin curry, which was good and came with rice which I appreciate as most of the time, the rice is not included. It wasn’t the best pumpkin curry I’ve ever had, but it was good. The pad see ew was good as well, though nothing particularly memorable. The fried rice, however, felt a bit too oily for my taste. Overall, it was a good meal, though I think our hunger definitely played a role. I’m glad I tried it, but I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to return.

Really solid and affordable Thai food. The curry and pad thai are above average. Wait time can be long. I got unlucky and had to wait 30 minutes.

This was my family and I’s first time at this restaurant, however we had a pleasant experience. There were around 5 people ahead of us and we expected an hour wait but was surprised to get seated in under 15 minutes. The food was good we got the papaya salad, chicken fried rice, pad see yew, and duck soup. The pad see yew was a little wet for my liking but had good flavor overall. The rest of the food was good. Service is fast and waiters are very responsive.

Nice place, quick service and very decent food. We ordered the crispy tofu which was very unique. We also ordered the Chicken Satay, Duck Noodle Soup and Chicken Penang Curry. They also have a large variety of ice creams selling in sealed little cups, with traditional expected flavors like cookies and cream, chocolate and strawberry and some unique flavors like Thai ice tea and ube purple yam. The unobstructed view of the busy Second Avenue while eating is enjoyable.

Walking around B Street is a different experience when there are no cars allowed in those two blocks in San Mateo. The food is different since 2020 and this Thai restaurant is one of them. The food is simple and the place was really busy for lunch the day we visited. We ordered roast duck curry, Pad Thai Noodle, and chicken Satay. The food was ok and noticed that the food was very low in salt.

The one take away I need you to get is DON’T GO ON A BUSY DAY!! The wait time was ridiculous and I think I started to decompose on the brick seats by the time we were called. In fact, I saw the group in front of us literally leave when we got inside. I understand that they were busy but even once we got in my brother had to immediately ask for a new spoon because his wasn’t washed properly. Then only my mother and my food arrived first, and I had finished eating by the time my brother’s and dad’s food arrived. Some ingredients of my mother’s dish was also slightly undercooked which is why you see the leftover shrimp on the plate. I don’t know if this is simply a unique experience but the food was still nice. Personally not worth all of the hassle but the price is good as well. I would not visit again but to anyone who enjoys Thai I would not oppose it. So you can tell why I have it a mid rating. JUST DON’T GO DURING A RUSH PLEASE!

To be honest, not sure why this place has high rating reviews. Restaurant: This place is located at the corners of a very busy street. I often walk by this place and decided to give it a try. Food: Ordered an appetizer, one soup, and fried noodles. Roti, the appetizer was OK, the dipping sauce is a little plain. Tom yum soup is very salty with a little spicy taste and No other flavors. The fried noodles were just over-sauced and salty. I have tried much better average Thai food elsewhere before. Price: average.

Ordered the Tom Kha and steamed rice over doordash. This was so disappointing. The Tom Kha was so sweet we could not eat it. It is like they added sugar to it. The steamed rice was also overcooked. Not going to go for a visit in person after that.

Ordered the crispy pork fried rice and was very disappointed. The rice was extremely wet and overly salty due to too much sauce, which completely took away the crispiness of the pork. I shared this feedback with the server, but no replacement or alternative was offered. Unfortunately, it was not an enjoyable experience.

Drove 20 minutes from Hillsborough specifically to have lunch at this place. Google Maps showed the restaurant as open, and there was also an “OPEN” sign on the door. However, an employee told me they were actually closed and would only open in an hour. Maybe the food is good — unfortunately, I’ll never know. If a restaurant doesn’t bother to keep its working hours accurate, it wastes customers’ time. Ended up leaving hungry.
