Nestled in the downtown San Rafael area a inconspicuous far on the corner reveals a very well-crafted interior design with lots of wood works Booth seating a very sizable bar as well as many large areas for group seating for all different numbers of company. Some may say that it resembles a hunter's cabin with a splash of cigar lounge. You would feel very comfortable here having a drink with your friends or just at the end of a long work day. Even so if you would like to get some work done here there are outlets available to plug in your laptop while the ambient sound of drinks being made full conversating and a view of cars driving by. They have a very extensive bar as I ordered the oaxacan firing squad. Come and spend some time here at this finest establishment.

Realizing we needed "milk for the kids" for the morning, I headed to Safeway because it was still open at 10:30 pm. I noticed a new place had opened on my drive. The family was fast asleep so I popped in to check out the scene. I can't say enough good things about this place. Very quiet for a downtown night with only a handful of patrons, I was slightly skeptical. The bar and room was strikingly beautiful with quiet nooks, welcoming bartenders, and old wood craftsmanship. The only thing more beautiful was the craftsmanship of the cocktail I was served. Imagine if a chemist made you a cocktail with the finest ingredients? The bartender was just as much the craftsman as the guys who hand carved the wooden bar. Ever drink a cocktail that left you feeling healthier? Everything is fresh...sweet...and not fake, hangover causing, sweet. They are perfect. One who may typically scoff at spending $10-$20 per cocktail, would grin with pleasure as their tastebuds examine the complexity of something they'd ordered before at another bar...left with the satisfaction of "that's what this drink should taste like." I didn't even order from their pirate themed boutique menu, just the best gin and tonic I had never had before. The only negative feeling I was left with was that I feared this place wouldn't survive based upon the bartender to patron ratio of 1:3. That being said, I popped by a few weeks later (needed more milk) and their Thursday night was packed. I ordered off their menu this time...and yeah, this bartender was a chemist too. I hope to run short on milk again soon.

One of my favorite bars period, and absolutely my favorite in Marin. The cocktails are expertly crafted and delicious. The cocktail menu is extensive and contains many exciting options for those who like variety. If you're not sure what to order, the talented and friendly mixologist bartender whip up fitting your tastes. I love their pina colada and boulevardier (which is made with their own private barrel of Elijah Craig bourbon).

Without question: The best cocktails North of the Golden Gate. I'm not exaggerating. You walk in and you smell the fresh ingredients in the air. These kids aren't craft cocktail snobs either... a curated beer selection you won't believe. It's better than most beer bars. If you want to walk into a place and leave feeling better than when you walked in - there is no place better than California Gold.

I don't think I will ever be able to get a beer at California Gold. Not because they have a bad selection, but because Drew, Jordan and the rest of the team excel at their craft and have curated a wonderful cocktail menu for any kind of liquor. My go-tos are the Honey Rider and Polo Cup! CG is a beautiful establishment from the font of the bar name, to the cushioned seating. You best believe I'll be frequenting this bar and if you're in Marin haven't gone yet... then go ASAP!! :):)

A proper whiskey bar! First thing I saw when we sat at the bar was the garnishment array, and I knew I was in the right place. Drinks are made the way they should be, with quality ingredients, care, and attention to detail. The Rattlesnake should be illegal, though... just sayin.

Love this bar! A little slice of the city in sleepy San Rafael, you can always count on it being busy late night unlike the rest of the town. Their cocktails are amazing, of course, but I also really appreciate their awesome beer list. They also pour a perfect Guinness which is often my go-to when I want to keep hanging out but can't do much more alcohol. Love Cali Gold!

Great spot! I had my wedding afterparty event here and it was awesome. I emailed back and forth with Christian a bit beforehand and they set a table aside for us, which was very nice of them. To be honest, my memories of the night itself were fairly blurry but as far as I remember my wife and I had a great time, and my guests all enjoyed it as well. We will definitely be back!

UPDATE: Within 1 hour the owner of the bar contacted me about the experience with the drink I had ordered. He offered an apology, which I appreciated but was unnecessary, as I should have been better about saying something during my visit, rather than in a public review. This was customer service at its best, and that I appreciate. Upon reflection my drink may have just been a bartender error, and everybody has an off day. As the atmosphere and employees are amazing, and the vibe a solid 100, and now management reacting in a meaningful way to a petty complaint, I am boosting to 5 stars across the board. Go see for yourself what caring about your customers, and their experience is all about. Cheers!

Yo, this place is sick! They got these crazy original drinks and the bartender's super chill, he'll make you whatever you want. The vibes are on point, it's like an old-school speakeasy or something. The lighting is perfect, nice and dim, and the AC is cranked so you can escape the heat.

It was pretty busy for a Thursday night when we came by. They also have good drafts too. Would recommend if you’re looking for a nice drink while in San Rafael. The workers were super friendly and recommended other bars in the area too.

Well the cocktail program seems pretty good. they definitely have reasonable at least decent service. and will the gentleman working the door was absolutely amazing and just so welcoming and friendly and just the epitome of a wonderful service actually. however really nothing other than those points really stood out about this place it was 97% white people 3% others and just kind of blah blah blah.

So much better than Spitfire. The atmosphere reminded me of a jungle cruise mixed with a hint of tiki room. Demographic was mixed & upscale, not divey. Decent selection of beer with good variety. Full bar available too. It was busy but not standing room only. I would've expected more people on a Friday night, but it was just after New Year's. Definitely a place I would return to and I expect it will do good business.

Tried to move my chair 2 feet to speak with new friends and the bartender lost his mind. Guess he was trying to impress the 2 very good looking young woman I was speaking to. Won't be back plenty of great places in the area. Wine was nice though but great wine all over the area.

Place is looking good. Internal atmosphere have some issues like racism towards non-white person. (If you are white, you'll feel that so welcome!) There are another thing related to bar tender service in weekdays, part timer provides free drinks to their known friends or gf's. Charging higher amount to regular customers (I'll suggest cameras over register will help transparency!) Other than that nice decoration, nice interiors & lightings. White Friendly Environment. Loud obnoxious drunks screeching and yelling outside the bar with no consideration and respect for not forcing their drunkard screeching into violating the privacy and peace and quiet of other peoplss nearby apartments, condos, businesses in the neighborhood. They need to keep their drunken noisy stupidity inside the bar only

The staff here could really use some training on out of state ID’s. Won’t be coming back and I suggest you don’t come here if you’re from out of CA.
