Trattoria da Ornella e Vinicio Sant'Agata Reviews
I'm here with my wife a few weeks ago...pleasant surprise, one of the best places I've eaten...everything good and perfect
This is a 5-star review, even though some people say I shouldn't give it even one, and I'll explain: Let me start by saying that the dishes are carefully prepared, just right, and well-balanced; if you like bold flavors, this is the place for you, and I particularly enjoyed the way the zucchini was cooked, the beef reduction, and the cake batter (spectacular). I also completely disagree with the reviews that say this restaurant is overly expensive: an average of €20 per dish is more than acceptable for what we ate, and we were extremely satisfied. Surprised by the cake batter, I asked for an explanation so I could try to replicate it at home. When did a very polite gentleman (I assume the owner of the restaurant) refuse to explain it to us, justifying his choice by saying he hates the Milanese? (I'm not even remotely Milanese.) Nonetheless, after a short while, the staff probably noticed the unpleasant behavior and remedied it by trying to make conversation and offering a liqueur. My 5 stars are both for the quality of the product (fantastic) and for the effort put into trying to restore the service's reputation, as the staff likely ultimately chose to put aside their prejudice in favor of dialogue. It was simultaneously a surreal, pleasant, and interesting experience. I recommend a visit.
Clothes don't make the man! We booked a random place for lunch during a motorcycle tour! The trattoria is dated, but well-kept and CLEAN! Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms is fantastic, and the porchetta that Mr. Vinicio decided to bring as an appetizer, paired with a nice house Barbera, is equally as good. And don't forget the homemade crostata... A family-friendly atmosphere at a fair price! Highly recommended!
I had lunch at this restaurant in June with my brothers and... what can I say? We had a fantastic time. The lunch was excellent, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back. The owners are truly special people.
The owner was very nice, spoke our languages (German, English) but also entertained our attempts to speak Italian. The food was delicious and quickly served. It was definitely worth the drive!
Wonderful food
We went to this restaurant twice (a few weeks apart) because we were so surprised by the quality of the food the first time. As mentioned in several reviews, there isn't a written menu simply because they change it regularly. We didn't have the same selection of dishes, even though there were about three weeks between our two visits. The menu is limited, yes, but the quality is excellent. The gnocchi with gorgonzola was delicious! The servers, as well as the owner, are very friendly. They could see that we only spoke basic Italian and did everything they could to make themselves understood. The owner and one of the servers spoke French, which helped us with the translation of some of the dishes. Regarding payment, they prefer cash, but there is also the option to pay by card. The preference for cash didn't bother me, since many restaurants in Italy do the same. For the quality of the food, I think the price is more than reasonable. If the opportunity arises, we will gladly return to this restaurant!
Good food. Good wine. No menus. If you don't speak Italian or German could prove difficult. Otherwise very good.
Even if the road to get is full of curves... You are payed back by the ospitality of Vinicio and the amazing cooking of his wife. Dishes well presented, with local and Veneto ingredients, looks good, and tasty, mix of appetizer, pasta homemade and the best octopus I have ever eaten... I want come back.. Strongly raccomented
The food here was absolutely amazing. We stopped here while hiking in the mountains. A great resting place. The owner was extremely nice and accommodating. Visited in Sept 2015. Take a walk up the road and cross the grated bridge for some great sights.
Dopo averne sentito parlare più volte e bene da amici e colleghi sono stato in questa trattoria con due amici: abbiamo subito trovato un clima accogliente grazie a Vinicio e al suo staff, piatti gust…
We stopped for lunch after a weekend in the mountains near Canobbio, attracted by the idea of eating good traditional food at a local trattoria. We called to make a reservation for two people and to make sure they were actually open given the holiday season. The trattoria is located between four or five other buildings, including the Town Hall, and is immersed in a very picturesque natural setting. The restaurant is warm and welcoming and very much reflects the idea of a mountain trattoria. The menu is explained orally with kindness and professionalism by the owner, but prices are never mentioned or displayed (something I personally don't like, but respect). The dishes were very good, with various seafood and meat options: we had the paccheri with speck and the beef stew with mashed potatoes and zucchini. Strong and authentic flavors. The only negative was the owner's attitude, who was a bit rude toward the end of the meal because, according to him, he doesn't like serving Milanese people. What a shame! Otherwise, it was an impeccable lunch. The bill was fair in my opinion: €80 for two people with two large bottles of water, two first courses, two second courses, a third of wine, and a dessert. I recommend a visit if you're passing through these areas ❤️ but please, don't say you're from Milan!
Very good and authentic food. Prices aren't listed, however, and there's no menu. Two pasta dishes, a main course, a salad, two desserts, half a glass of wine and water, €80. No receipt.
About two months ago, my brother and I were in the area during the rally. We needed to use the bathroom, and while passing by, we weren't familiar with the place (we thought it was the only place within a kilometer radius). Around 11:50, we went down to ask if we could use the restroom quickly, saying we'd eat later, not knowing they only offered restaurant service. The girl who "welcomed" us categorically said no, saying the owner didn't want it. I'm well aware that bars and restaurants in Italy aren't required to make restrooms available to everyone, but we felt treated like bandits, as if we were trying to do something bad, when we were simply a brother and sister who were in the area having fun and needed to use the restroom. Fortunately, the bar down the road didn't have the same problems. Furthermore, having to drive along the road in question several times, we would have stopped at the next stop for lunch with some other rally driver friends, but after the girl's attitude, we preferred to stop in Malesco because we were really disappointed. I feel sorry for the owners because they are certainly dedicated people, and it also shows in the good reviews their restaurant has. In fact, in my review, since I didn't try the food or the atmosphere, I didn't feel like giving it a star, but I did give it a star because the waitress's treatment was truly unpleasant.

i had the displeasure to visit this restaurant a few weeks back. at my arrival around lunchtime there were about 3 tables empty, the others were taken by customers who all seemed to know each other and the owner, possibly locals. as i entered, the entire crowd suddenly went quiet and starred at me. not just looking at me, starring at me with a very angry look! my convertible with foreign license plates was parked just outside, so i assume they knew i was a foreigner. after i asked politely if i may sit down at one of the tables, i was rudely told "NO, no table for you!" in a very challenging way, presumably by the owner. again, everyone was watching, seemingly very pleased. i will most certainly never come back here and neither should you, especially if you are a foreigner (even one from the friendly country very nearby ... ) and to the owner i say this: if you want to cook only for your friends, then close your restaurant and open a social club. then you can pick and choose your visitors, and stay amongst those who don't mind your miserable company. you sir, you have no business in the hospitality industry!
