Moon and River Cafe Schenectady Reviews
I have been visiting for many years when in scientist. Down home vibe and the owner gracious. It beats with the heart of the 1960's. More Woodstock than Woodstock. Entertainment nightly.
There's a nostalgic familiarity in this place. But not over the top like a big family reunion, more like when you visited your grandparents on a weekday just for after school and they made you lunch. The absolute definition of home style. One of those places where you'll either love it or hate it. I loved it. Portions are small for usa food, so if you're really hungry, maybe try another place nearby. This place is not like a regular cafe where everyone has a fake smile and check on you every 5 minutes. It feels more honest and casual.
We had a carb omelet with mushroom & Swiss, and honestly it tasted just like home. It felt so familiar and comforting — like I was at home. Everything was perfect.
Richard is a wonderful man carrying a wonderful mission forward. Please stop by here and at least grab some handmade stickers if you’re not hungry - though I’d highly recommend the tomato and mushroom sandwich. Thank you Richard!
I wanted a savory bite later in the evening with a laid-back atmosphere while passing through Schenectady and found the perfect spot!
6 of us stopped in after a Proctors show. It was a quick walk after sitting for awhile. Cash only but ATM available. Everything was amazing. The menu was the biggest I have ever seen. All of our dishes were remarkable, we had the Swedish meatballs, crab cake and fig & feta as appetizers. The one man chef made each dish with love and care.
This is a quirky little hole in the wall with a lot of personality, a huge menu, and good food made to order. I should note that it is principally a vegan restaurant, although there were some non-vegan items on the menu. I had a turkey Reuben that was as good as some pastrami Reubens I have had in the past. Service was good, despite the place becoming busy.
Such a cute, artsy and kitschy place. The hospitality is remarkable. Food very yummy. Good price point, and live music! Will definitely be back.
This place is cool 😎. You feel like you're in a different space when you walk into this little spot. Great food, lots of vegetarian options. Great service and amazing live music ever night of the week. Sunday nights are open mic nights. The prices were amazing. The feel of the place was magical to me with the artwork and the ambiance of it all.
This is a super chill vibe place with excellent tasting food which felt like a home cooked meal with your Mama's love in it. The music was amazing. I appreciated all the vegan options.
an eclectic vegetarian cafe run by the owner. we arrived just as he was opening the cafe, and he made us a ciabatta sandwich and a veggie tofu scramble. he was also able to make and wrap up some sandwiches for us for our train. the prices are very affordable and the food is good! be advised that this place is cash only, but there is an ATM.
I’m moving to the area after living in mainly small towns. I decided to check this place out on a whim and was so pleasantly surprised by the environment. It fears so comfortable and familiar. There were two men playing folk music on the guitar, people enjoying the music, the place is decorated beautifully. It’s very cozy and homelike. The food was really good and I was amazed by how affordable it was especially with me needing gluten free bread. It’s not a fast food restaurant. You’re going to wait a little bit for your food, but honestly it was refreshing to step away from the bustle and sit down, listen to some music, and enjoy some good food. I’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely amazing experience. The guy making our food was all by himself at the moment servicing a pretty large amount of people and doing so with the best vibes and energy. He made the best tilapia I've ever tasted and this place deserves so much recognition. I absolutely recommend coming here
So friendly and so much to look at! A very eclectic place with all kinds of art and games and posters and little things to find. Our order was taken by the very friendly owner who also did all the cooking. The food was really tasty, spiced perfectly, and vegan or whatever level of vegetarian or not that you prefer. I had eggs while my boyfriend had a chickpea egg substitute that was pretty good (we are not vegan so it was a new thing for us to try). There was live music and the people were very friendly and sang songs we could sing along with. It is not a spic-and-span modern restaurant. You will feel transported to a different time. I will also say that I have a very delicate constitution, and I did find eating here. It was a lovely experience to wrap up our time in Schenectady.
19 years, that's how long the Moon and River Cafe has been gracing Schenectady and I never knew it. With the most affordable food in the capital district, one of the most personable and unique owners, an array of live music and a wonderful local clientele I'm almost scared to let others know about this diamond in the rough out of fear it becomes overcrowded. But alas, everyone deserves to eat off the largest vegetarian and vegan menu in the capital district. Good home cooked food. Good home cooked atmosphere. Edit, I went the day following my initial review, so yesterday... and plan to go again today. I look forward to exploring the menu and trying all the enchanting dishes they have.
The Moon & River Cafe has a very throwback in time vibe. Lots of vegan and vegetarian dishes to choose from. It was cash only when I was there. Homey feel is probably the best way to describe the overall feeling. Then there was the live music. Wow! Jenna & Jessy were amazing. Gifted musicians who seemed to be undeterred by the small size of the venue.
