My queen steak sandwich was fresh, hot, and tasty. The fries were done perfectly as always
A popular and favorite restaurant of the company I work for. Wonderful service and delicious food.
An old standard. Great steak sandwiches and the mozzarella sticks were fantastic! Waitress was very friendly and accommodating.
Very old style set up. Not for the modern folk if you looking for fancy but the food is freshly made and superb.
Classic place, old school, get the king and love it.
Food and service very good
Loved it. Food was good, service was excellent. Staff was courteous. Relaxed ambience. Good place to have food after a long day!
Classic Americona. Enjoyed my steak sandwich and O rings. Staff was friendly.
Food was great. Unlimited fries!! Looking forward to stopping in again.
Very nice waitress food came out fast and it was good recommend
The benches and tables could be upgraded.. but I guess that doesn't matter when the food is absolutely delicious. The service was on point. Ty
Steak melt was amazing, staff friendly, and a great environment to see old Schenectady! Would go again!
Always a great meal at reasonable prices with fast friendly service. It's like stepping back in time.
Excellent food. Good prices
Went here as a kid. Still great steak sandwichs. Great service, short waiting time. Only complaint was the restaurant was very warm on a summer afternoon. Will return soon.
Great value. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals. Homemade sauces and fries were good too. Glad we tried it. Also, a heads-up, there's a surcharge for non-cash payments
Wow this was so delicious I really overate. Steak sandwiches, onion rings and fries were all top notch. Will be back for sure.
I was born in 1954. My earliest memories are the nights when my dad who worked for GE would bring home steak sandwiches. This was a special night. I remember them wrapped in tin foil and arriving hot. He would pick them up on the way home from work. Before the Pandemic my husband and I went back to Schenectady. I told him…we have to go to Morrettes! He said yes to please me. When we were served his eyes grew as big as saucers. One bite and he exclaimed …YOU ARE RIGHT! THESE ARE THE BEST STEAK SANDWICHES I HAVE EVER EATEN ! I’m 67 years old now. This year we have been married for 49 years. I hope we can get back soon. Maybe by our 50th Wedding Anniversary if the Pandemic subsides. Every bite was a wonderful memory and the quality has never faltered. Thank you Morrettes for being my happy place as good as I remember.
Living an hour away, if I'm within 20 minutes, I'm going. Friendly service, good prices, great food. Been going since their parents ran the place and I'll continue till I die.
It has been many years since we went to Morriettes for steak sandwiches. Well, apparently we have been missing out. The food was delicious, probably the best steak sandwiches we have had in a long time and the sauces were excellent. We will be repeat customers for sure!
Hands down the best place for a steak sandwich. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. Fast and very friendly service. We get dinner togo at least 2-3 days a week. Definitely a must to try if you haven't yet !!! You won't be disappointed.
Just a fun stop. Brings back memories of the Steak Sandwiches I grow up on in Amsterdam NY (at Lanzie's Bar & Grill) The folks are great, pleasant, friendly and helpful. I stop whenever I'm in the area or feel like a road trip (once or twice a year, I drive down from Maine) Hello, J. Gray, and Thank you
Everything here is just awesome, the food, the atmosphere, and the price! I wish it wasn’t a big drive to get here! 10/10
Perfectly delicious steak sandwiches. No grizzle!! The waitress is kind, considerate, and always smiles. She insures that we have everything we need. Great food and service!!!
Best cheesesteaks I've had since moving from Philadelphia area. I find myself going here once a week. Update: Only a poet is qualified enough to articulate how delicious these sandwiches are.
I have eaten here at least 5 times now, and they have yet to disappoint. Wide variety on the menu but ultimately the same outcome. Satisfaction. Lemonade is just the right sour, too.
Great place for a rib burger or steak sandwich. Very good menu and friendly staff. Never a complaint, reasonable priced. Better then the previous owners.
I had the texas king and wife had one of the burgers and a veggie steak for my daughter all the food was delicious and service was great. 30yrs since last there not planning on making it another 30 lol.
Superb steak sandwich made to your order. Excellent food and numerous choices. A nice friendly staff to serve you too. A must stop.
A coworker recommended this place and we went three or four times that first week. Rachel and Max are really pleasant folks.
this is definitely a Schenectady gem, awesome steaks, well seasoned fries and tots the staff was friendly and the cook helped me out with ordering should definitely stop un for a king steak and some fries if your in the area
This is my go to spot for steak sandwiches in the area. Morrettes has been in business for nearly 100 years and I see why! The food is delicious, the portions are plenty, the prices are excellent, and their staff is so nice. So far we've had the steak melt, build your own queen and king steaks, their chicken parm, their union burger, their martin burger, their homemade chips, regular fries, and their waffle fries. Wish I took pics but each item was so yummy we'd devour it before we had the chance to take any! We eat here regularly and have never been disappointed! You should definitely try it if your in the area! Oh and if you eat in you get unlimited fries!
My go to for a really delicious steak sandwich with mozzarella onions peppers and sauce. The way I've been eating them since I was a little girl. The ownership changed a few years ago but the food is just as delicious as it always has been. French fries are crispy and hubby enjoyed the chicken parm sandwich too. Fast and friendly service. Definitely recommend.
Been going to Morrettes for many years everything that I had eaten here is always great food. The steak sandwiches are excellent but I do have to say hands down they serve the very best burger in the whole capital district and in my opinion the best burger I've had anywhere!! The staff are all friendly and welcoming and prices are very fare. Keep up the great work.
Delicious cheesesteak sandwiches. Their homemade fry sauce and steak sauce are divine. The steak is high quality and their rolls are so light and fresh. Highly recommend!
Best lunch spot in Schenectady! Don't miss it! Best service of any restaurant in the long history of restaurants. If you get there early enough in the week, you can get some really good Mac Salad. It sells out fast though.
Delicious lunch and excellent service! Waitress was a gem. watched my burger as ... ->handmade<- ! No frozen patties. My husband's steak sandwich was amazing. Folks coming and going for order pickup while there. This place is honest goodness!
I use to waitress here 20yrs ago with the original owner and the food was AMAZING. I miss the Italian wedding soup they had and the chocolate malt shakes I loved as well. BUT the new owners and food now is just as good and we go there still. Hot hamburgers and waffle fries AWSOME!!! GO TRY!!
Ordered a burger and fries for pickup and it was delicious. The burger was cooked the way I asked, and fries were crisp and well seasoned.
Nice ribeye steak sandwich. Good price
I'm new to working in the area and just tried this place for the first time in Monday and then had it again Wednesday and even went back on Thursday but didn't get the steak sandwich just the soup which tastes homemade and might be the best soup Ive had in the capital region. The owner and the staff are super friendly efficient and welcoming. From now on when someone from out of town comes to visit me I'm taking them here. Only issue I ran into was the seats are too close to the counter for me but I am in the 100th percentile in height so that's to be expected. If you live within 20 miles of here and you don't eat here at least once a month you're missing out. Also just down the road are some of the best cannolis in the 518 if the huge portions don't somehow fill you up
Cook was amazing very helpful in ordering and making my decision
❤️They are WONDERFUL! Fast, friendly staff, they make it how you want it, and it's so😋Yums! Been going here for years, and send everyone I know there to get the best steak sammies. (they do chicken now!!) I'm not the only one who agrees. Google them!
My husband and I stopped in today for the first time ever. We sat at the counter and watched in amazement. This team operates like no other I’ve seen. They’re so in sync with each other and even at their busiest they remained calm and cool. They were super friendly and so incredibly efficient. And then came our food…perfection. I ordered a queen steak with mushrooms, onions, peppers, and Cheez Wiz - it was the best steak sandwich I’ve ever eaten. The meat was tender and had so much flavor. I also ordered fries that were crispy and delicious. I’d tell you about my husband’s meal but he ate it so fast, I didn’t get a chance to try his burger, though he did say it was incredible. On top of all this, their prices are fantastic. This place is a winner in my book. I can’t wait to go back.
I’ve never been here. Don’t even know where it is but Google asked me to review this place so I’m gonna leave 100% review I spent over $1000 here staff was amazing even though I never met them were spent any money here. it asked me if I dine in or take out I dined and take out and even had delivery even though I never ordered.
Best steak sandwiches in the capital district! Everything else they have that I've tried is fire as well!
King Steak sandwich is outstanding! Great service, friendly staff, and well priced for these expensive times we all live in. This is a diamond in the rough, a real slice of "Americana".
I came to town for work and wanted to find something I can’t get back in California. I found Morrettes King Steakhouse on Google, and I’m SO GLAD I did!!! Great food, great prices, and great service! It is not the kind of atmosphere I’d expect from a Steakhouse, this place gives more of a diner vibe, but I 10/10 recommend trying it out!
Been coming here all my life and I felt I needed to pay homage to such an in credible place with the best steak in upstate ny and great waiters/waitresses as welll.
This place has the best Steak Sandwiches anywhere. I ordered the steak plate with a grilled roll on the side. This vibe is a throwback in time to the industrial days of Schenectady. Service was great and staff was friendly. For whatever it is worth, Dave Portney from one bite pizza reviews visited here for the steak sandwich review and gave it a great score.
The outside of this place looks like it could be in some Edward Hopper knockoff, giving it an old school vibe, which was further enhanced by sitting at the counter. You gotta love watching your food being prepared right in front of you. The service was friendly and attentive. And for the grand finale…the steak sandwich…btw I’ve had better Philly’s outside of Philly than I have in Philly, which is odd to me…anyway, it wasn’t the best Philly I’ve ever had, but I wasn’t expecting it be either. I think it’s important to keep in mind that this place doesn’t claim to serve “Philly” steak sandwiches, so try not to compare the two. Case in point, their steak sandwich was the first that I’ve ever had with lettuce and tomato on it. Grab a bite of nostalgia and don’t pass this place up!
A gem. A true staple. An unforgettable experience. Rarely do you come across a place that is so tasty and hits the spot so right that it becomes a joint you must hit every time you’re in the area. The portions are large, the ambience is classic and the price fair. I’ve looked all over for a delicious steak sandwich including Philadelphia, and nothing has gotten close to this. Come here; you will not be disappointed. (The fries are unlimited too)
We had a delicious meal at Morrettes, with all of our steak sandwiches coming out fabulous! This place has old photos of Schenectady lining the walls and has been open for 77 years! The food was very affordable for the portion sizes as well with three meals coming out to under 40 dollars. I will be back!
I had an enjoyable experience here and I will be back. The food quality and service were both excellent. I got the Texas King Steak Sandwich and it was delicious, the prices are on point, it's got an Old School feel to it, and the workers there definitely made my experience complete. If you're in Schenectady and you want a filling, inexpensive meal at a cool laid back spot then definitely come here!
Great food and you'll spend less than at most sit-down places in town.
Had cheesesteak and chicken philly. Excellant food and flavor. The waitress was fast..efficient and very friendly
Best steak sandwiches anywhere. Part of Schenectady's history I've been eating at Morrettes King Steakhouse as long as i can remember. The Morrette family did sell a few years ago, the new owners honor the Morrette family tradition with the same high-quality food, service, and fair prices. I highly recommend Morretts' you will not be disappointed.
Iconic 1947 diner famous for shaved steak sandwich.
The restaurant is old and worn especially the seating bench. but the food and service are very good. 🇩🇰
The food here is on point- the steak sandwich is big and delicious. Tater tots and fries are good too. Other sides can be hit or miss. Cool atmosphere with vintage local photos on the walls, and one of few places that still have a counter. Service is good too. Wish they had more beers available.
Been going to Morrettes forever, the original owner sold the place Many yrs ago. The popular steak sandwich is still good. Portion sizes & service was good. good. I miss a dessert that the original owner had,,I don't remember what it was called but it was I believe Deep Fried Cheese cake. Maybe you could bring it back 🙂
First timer for lunch. Several co-worker's love this place. A group of four us went for lunch. I wouldn't say the place is super clean, but it's not dirty. It's a really old place so it's to be expected. GREAT staff, attentive and friendly. FAST service. The food arrived at the table HOT and that is good. The french fries were better than I expected them to be. The steak was very good and that is the reason to come here and give it a try. Solid four stars in a world where a five star is hard to find.
What can be said about Morrettes , nothing bad that's for sure. This company has been selling the most delish steak sandwiches for nearly 100 years on Erie Blvd in Schenectady... Think about this, 85 years of the highest quality food. If you like fall apart, juicy & hands down the best steak sandwich in our area then you need to stop by.
Don't order out because they warped the sandwich and the fries in foil which makes the roll and the fries soggy. They put that in paper bags and the bags get greasy as heck. That's why I don't order out from them.
Great fries and a unique fry sauce. Friendly staff and quick service. Maybe try something other than the cheese steaks. Low quality meat and undercooked, canned mushrooms defeat the massive portion.
The service was excellent however I have mixed reviews on the food. The classic burger was very good. I enjoyed it. It comes with unlimited fries, mac salad or potato salad. That's where things went south. The macaroni salad was HORRIBLE. I couldn't eat it and my server told me it's not homemade. One taste and it was more than obvious. Just disgusting. I ordered a small order of onion rings to have instead which made my reasonably priced meal become ridiculously expensive. Live and learn. That mac salad should be homemade. I'd NEVER serve that s*** to customers. Also, please update your menu prices. The prices are different once you get the check, which certainly seems shady.
Im disappointed because I had this 2 weeks ago and I was hooked but tonight…Im not sure what was the deal. The meat taste bland, I didn’t think there was any cheese in it until I broke open the sandwich to see it was mixed in, the onions were burnt and was just slapped on the sandwich along with the peppers.
Had the burger and fries, no seasoning on the burger, taste like chop meat, no salt on the fries, very bland food. Also overcooked, which is a shame cause i wanted the greasy spoon type food.
Three of us got steak sandwiches with an order of fries and onion rings, fountain soda and the bill came to $65 without tip. Definitely not worth the $80 you’ll end up spending. The king one is $11.99 then $2.35 for cheese add your onion, peppers and mushrooms at an additional $1.50 each = too much for their sandwiches! Was at least edible so I’ll give them 2 stars. Update: Okay so 2 of the sandwiches were the open face not the king and one queen sandwich but still not worth the $80.
2 stars cuz of the service. The "Steak" sandwich is actually ground burger on a subroll with orange government cheese. Burnt onion rings and a "cook" that has his own tip jar. (Good luck to him).
Waitress was very friendly and fast. Food was dry, over cooked, and bread was old. Menu prices aren’t actually the prices beware….you only find out once you get your bill.
Over 30min now for 3 sandwiches. Never again. Don't care how good it is. Not as good as the original OWNERS. 43 MINUTES LATER FOOD COMES. UNCALLED FOR. ILL GO TO MIKES HOTDOGS NEXT TIME I WANT A STEAK SANDWICH..
Wife and I went for dinner - the fries were fine, the sausage taste bad, not enough sauce on the items, the meatballs were dark and dry. I had the Sampler Platter. My wife had the queen steak sandwich - almost no sauce on it. The waitress did her job well.
The chicken sandwich is crazy the roll is so big when I lifted the top bun off I couldn’t believe how small the piece of chicken was I wish I took a picture it was size of a chicken nugget they put 2 of them on it very disappointed
Worst steak sub I’ve ever had in my life. Very bad service, dirty tables and rude waitresses. And not cheap.
TO MUCH SALT, COULD NOT EAT THE.SANDWICHES WE.BOUGHT HAD TO THROW OUT, MY GOD LET THE PEOPLE PUT THEIR OWN SALT ON, NEVER COME THERE AGAIN, JUST TERRABLE A D I ASKED FOR NO SALT, TERRABLE,TERRABLE
I have been going here for 40years, every meal has been amazing, today, my wife and I stopped and we both ordered king steak sandwiches with fries. When we took our first bite, it smelled and tasted like rotten meat. Both of our sandwiches. We informed the waitress, we left both full sandwiches, she did take one off the bill , but you could literally smell how bad the meat was. We will never go to Morrettes again.
I don't comment if I've had a bad experience. But this was the worst experience. I brought my grandson there ,been going there since the 70,s they decided to add over cooked peppers and mushrooms (8.00 added to bill) the roll was burnt black edges. We had a 50.00 upset stomach ache meal .but I tipped well because the waitress was sweet .
Cheap rolls.. Kaiser rolls are the same exact rolls Stewart’s uses for they’re breakfast sandwhiches steak sandwhich rolls are like the old royal fried chicken Italian cheeseburger rolls “cheap”.the food was sub par tasting had to pay 4 dollars extra for onion rings instead of chips that come with the meal I ordered and I litterally only got 4 onion rings the dude working the grill was rude I get it if ur in the back in a kitchen but if your up front with customers you don’t use “kitchen language” your not Gordon Ramsay… I didn’t eat in and then ask for a container for leftovers to take home I ordered my food to go but got charged a “container fee” and if I didn’t sit there and watch the entire time the whole order would of been wrong I had to correct the cook multiple times who was nice, the first cook was not nice at all glad he walked away and went and did something else
I was there Tuesday for supper around 5:30 6:00 pm. The food was terrible roll was cold not toasted very little sauce on the steak meat that was on the roll. They could have made the roll at least warm before the steak meat was put on it. They have no more soup until fall . I will never go back. It sure was very good when the Pasqualrillo had it . Name spelled wrong but most people know who I mean . 🙄🥵😱👎👎
People don't know the difference between real steak and steakums (fake steak) that sre in there sandwiches that the market sells.
My father and I were there on 6/28/2023.. first problem..the window sill next to our table had cobwebs in the corners and the second problem.. the employee taking care of preparing the food had no hat or hairnet on and using the same gloves that were touching his phone and pulling up his pants.. as soon as i noticed both problems.. we only paid for our soda and left before the food was served.. I'm definitely not going to that establishment again.
I’ve been Going to Morrettes Since I could walk and I’m 63 now and ever since the time it closed and then reopened, the quality has gone down big time And this is gotta be the worst steak plate that I’ve ever had from Morrettes I don’t know what all these people are reviewing and giving all these great compliments. They must never have had a real good steak sandwich. I’ve been all over the country and this is gotta be the worst state plate I’ve ever had believe me. I use to eat a steak plates from here once or twice a month But never again. HERE….. You can definitely tell that it’s not the original The onions looked and tasted like they were last weeks. The steak was cut up so small that it was like eating purée steak the sauce, sucks, and taste like nothing but a fresh garlic Clove The role is OK nothing‘s changed there And a large order of onion rings was burnt and too hard to eat Truthfully, I’ll probably never order from there again because somebody does not know how To make a steak plate And for $35 I feel I got ripped off
