Wolff's Biergarten Syracuse Reviews
The best bar in town - feels like home! Lex, Matt and Dylan give all star service
Great place to come for your birthday and get a free Boot of beer (or for a small upcharge you can get cider instead, which is what I do). They don't have much in the way of food (hotdogs and pretzels) but you can bring in your own food. Strongly recommend Pizza from Nick's Tomato Pie and sweets from Peace, Love, and Cupcakes for Birthday celebrations :)
Wolff’s Biergarten is one of my favorite spots in Syracuse. Special shout out to Matt, Lex, and Dylan!
It's a great bar that hosts many people from all over the world. It's thé best place in Syracuse to expand your horizon and give your whole life a giant swirl. Good people, great beers and loads of fun. Ow and free peanuts that's very unique too 🤣!
Dylan was awesome!!! Super fun and welcoming. We had a group with us and he didn't bat an eye! Great service, would Definitely recommend.
Ryan and Dylan are amazing! The place is clean, the beers are great and the vibe is wonderful! A must stop if you’re a soccer fan or not:)
It was my first time at Wolff's Biergarten in Syracuse, NY. I went because one of my closest childhood friends was having a small gathering there and he likes beer, so that's where he chose to go. Upon entering, I really didn't know what to expect! Concrete floors were interesting but the fact that they allow dogs in there was a nice surprise. The bartender's dog Bentley was awesome.. although he was looking for food, and an occasional pet on the head. The beer selection was fairly diverse, although didn't quite have enough that I was particularly looking for. But not a problem, there's something for everyone. You can go for the wine selection too, although nobody did in our group. The free beer boot for your birthday was a nice touch! Give them $40 deposit on the boot and your license and they give you a free boot (2 liters!) of their standard beer... whatever it was, was still very tasty. It was NOT coors :) It was something german but my buddy loved it. Basically it was like a free 6-pack. Awesome!!! They had very limited basic food consisting of a hot dog, chili, and chips I think. You can bring in your own food, too. Overall, it was a fun place to relax and enjoy some beers with your friends. Highly recommend!
Great place to come with friends and a group. Place gets super packed on the weekends of drinking but other nights are just right. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and that's what you'd need. Good beer choices, free peanuts, and a great atmosphere
Love this bar in downtown Syracuse, used to be cash only but have card now. Alexis R is the best bartender!
I finally came here for my birthday boot, and it was great. I was surprised at how many beer choices they have, I'll have to come back to try more. Not much food on the menu but the pretzels are pretty good.
Das Boot! This is a great place to just have a few beers with your friends. The Biergarten is really meant for a group but if you're going out on the town by yourself, well I bet you'll still have a blast. The prices are reasonable for a place that only serves German beer. WARNING: Danger! If you are allergic to peanuts stay away. There are peanuts all over. They have buckets and buckets of the stuff. For you this might not be the best spot to spend your Friday or Saturday night.
This is an *excellent* place to stop for a beer in the Syracuse area. It is a converted former firehouse that they have converted into an authentic German bier hall. Stool seating at the bar, and communal "bench" seating around the remainder of the establishment. The draft beer selection is TOP SHELF: Hofbrau (original and dunkel), Warsteiner, Bitburger, Spaten Lager, and Carlsberg, to name just a few. If you are a fan of plain, crisp, delicious lager, you are going to love it here. Prices are reasonable: we stopped in on a weekday during happy hour, and full Liters of beer were just $5!! Food menu is limited - I think they have pretzels and sausages, so you are mainly going here to exercise a "liquid diet". Parking can be challenging - various street parking and paid options within a few blocks, but it is a popular area. Hope to return later this year.
Open early on weekends for Premiership games. They let you bring in your own food since they don't serve it there. Beer selection is solid, mostly German of course. Staff knows their stuff and free peanuts is a plus. Ask for Dave!!
Very relaxing atmosphere. Both the owner and the bar tenders where friendly and polite. Knew there drinks and pours. Definitely going to stop by everytime I'm in the area.
Excellent beer. Great bartender. Music was marginal.
Our bartender Dylan took good care of us and managed the bar well. This is a genuine football bar. We watched an exciting match. I took a friend here for the free two liter boot for his birthday! Thanks for your hospitality Dylan. To the owners: give Dylan a raise. He is good for your business! Cheers!!!
A common name but an uncommon place. Tucked away in the heart of downtown Syracuse, this isn't your usual bar. Offering extremely healthy servings and your occasional boot if you came here you better be ready to drink. The bartenders are in oar and the owner is the greatest human you will meet. It's a great atmosphere for sports as well as just getting messed up. I like the food and can't wait till next week when I'll return again to raise hell and have fun.
JP is the best bartender in the world. He saved my dog from a burning building while simultaneously serving beer. He should run for mayor of this city.
Best place in town. kai will serve you up.
Simple and authentic German style biergarten in an old firehouse. Lots of German session beers and a few snacks. Went on a Friday night, there was live music and a great casual atmosphere, filled up around 830 or 9. Definitely will return.
Wolff’s Biergarten has the best manager snd staff in the Syracuse area. The establishment is clean, well organized, and FUN. Dylan is always attentive, professional, and can shoot a few jokes while he’s at it- best person to have as the head man. Perfect for sporting events and supportive of local sports teams. 11/10 always will come back. Edit- I happened to be here to experience Quan’s first day- he’s a keeper. Great personality to bolster the atmosphere at Wolff’s.
Quan is such an asset to this place! I live downtown very close to this bar and came in not sure what to expect and wow, what a gem of a human. Not only did he make great suggestions but his personality absolutely makes me want to come back! It’s super nice to finally find a place close to me that has the personable vibes that I want out of a space. Thank you Quan for creating such a solid environment! I’ll be coming again for sure.
Great little bar! Excellent selection of draft beer. with the big doors open one of the best places to enjoy a liter of beer and nice weather. only quibble was I wish it had German food like the other location.
Great Syracuse Gem! We love the beer. They always have Franz on tap. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Dylan is our favorite. Only criticism is they need a new dart board and popcorn.
Great place for a beer and watching soccer. Lots of peanuts but not much else for food. You are encouraged to bring your own if you wish. Free 2 L of beer on your birthday. 40 cash deposit in case of breakage.
I always have a great time at this bar. I love the open windows when the weather is nice and a lot of great choices for beer. If you aren't into German beer they also offer some domestics. I love peanuts and it's all you can eat peanuts here, just throw the shells on the ground! I always feel a little bad about doing so, but it's how it is. I've yet to have any of the food, but I know there are only a couple options. This place is dog friendly as well. Love it!
Great atmosphere and even better beer! The barkeep was fantastic! Justin was excellent and very personable. Don't miss out on this gem! Oh, did I mention peanuts? Oh yeah!! Great selection of beers, peanuts to your hearts content, and a one helluva place to drink!
One of if not my favorite bar in the city of Syracuse. I love the atmosphere I come here to watch soccer games on the weekends. I also love the peanuts. Definitely feels like a smores bar and that's okay the open setting is good for games. also if it's your birthday they will give you a boot of beer which is so much fun but you should definitely take it with a grain of salt because it is a lot of alcohol. definite five stars I will definitely be back again and again and if you are reading this trying to figure out whether you should go or not you should definitely go.
I have been a Wolff's customer from it's early days. It started out great. There are a lot of beers on tap that you can't get anywhere else, but the food thing never happened due to codes, I guess. There were dogs everywhere. I don't know how this started, but it was a problem for me. Codes changed this for the most part. Post COVID, Wolff's took on a frat party atmosphere. The floors, bathrooms, and taps were dirty. The staff was inattentive at best. So much for past history. Things seemed to start to turn around recently. The taps were cleaned more regularly, and the date was posted of this service. This location is an Arsenal meeting place (Premier League Soccer) which has to make them some money, you would think. Well, on 12/28/2023 there was a game on. Most would think that it might be busy, especially during the Holidays. Five TV's were on another soccer match, with just one playing the Arsenal game. There was ONE BARTENDER! It took 30 minutes to get a drink. This is unacceptable. Maybe we Arsenal fans should look for another place. I have held my nose long enough.
Great German beer selection. Peanuts, picnic tables, soccer on the many screens, always a bunch of people watching even at 8 AM. They also host a standing room only trivia night I personally love the fact they carry all of the 6 Nations Rugby matches live. Great place to find Riggers on a Saturday morning in the winter.
Great beer. No real food. They give you half a gallon of free beer in a glass boot if it's your birthday. Friendly staff. They always have one cider on tap. It's usually the same hopped cider which is pretty tasty. Free peanuts, you throw the shells on the ground... So definitely not peanut allergy safe lol
Peanuts are solid. (Only food) Lots of choices of beer in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and the beer was great and affordable. On your birthday you get a free boot of beer. That's always a solid choice. Nice place to chill downtown.
Dylan was superb!!!! Absolutely love the boots! Bring your ass out here for your birthday; free boot!!! Matt was a great bartender knew exactly what I needed. Best bar you can get downtown.
I’ve been to the Albany location several times, and I can confidently say I would revisit the Syracuse location over the Albany one for a weekend night. Not only was the music way better, but Syracuse doesn’t rip away the tables from you when the night is getting dizzy and you just really want to sit down. In addition, the staff were insanely nice. I did not catch the name of the red head bartender, but her, and Bill and Rashad from security were all amazing. They created a safe and fun environment. 10/10 place to visit and have a beer and hang, or to listen to good music and dance on a weekend night. Not to mention, the birthday boot!!! 2L of beer in a glass boot for your birthday is always a highlight. We were celebrating a 21st birthday, and it was great to see the bartender just as excited to pour the boot as our friend was excited to drink it. Always an amazing celebration. Just a heads up for anyone curious though, you do have to put a card down for the boot as a security measure. If you want the boot or you break it, it was at least $40 last time I bought it.
JP is literally the best! He was so attentive and even helped me pick out my new winter hat! I'm from Rochester and would travel back here just to see JP! He is what you look for in a bar atmosphere, attentive personable and friendly. Can't wait to come back!
Best bar in downtown Syracuse. The bartender Kai was amazing and welcoming
Fantastic bar! Great energy and they show every soccer game imaginable. Friendly bar tenders — they will take a shot with you and give random discounts! Come here on your birthday as you get a free 2L boot of beer! Free peanuts too
This is such a fun spot to visit! Can be low key and also a fun night out for your group! Friendly and accepting feel and the GM Dylan is a vibe in himself. Definitely would recommend for an after work drink even. A must visit when coming through Syracuse :)
Fantastic bar, that after a weird few years is back to all of its glory. A great place so sit down and grab a pint (or liter!). One of, if not the only place in Syracuse to watch football (soccer) and the atmosphere during match-day is great. Also an excellent place for the big tournaments (Euros, World Cup, etc). Only (small) downside is there is no (or limited) food options. You can bring your own, which is good though! COYS!
Kai was an amazing bartender. Dylan is an amazing owner too. This place has always been so friendly for a day drinker. Especially if you need somewhere to watch soccer. 10/10
Love this place! I had been before to watch a soccer game and get a free boot on my birthday but now go regularly. It’s a great crowd, nice selection of beers and mixed drinks as well as darts. Alexis and Dylan are our favorite bartenders! Go check this place out if you haven’t already
Holden and Dylan were so fun and attentive!!! Bartenders knew about the beer and are super awesome personality wise. Will be back soon :)
What a wonderful bar. Nice and cozy decor with lights and flags, bar games, fun crowd, nice bartenders, and free peanuts to snack on. Perfect accompaniment to your beer. They are everywhere tho- on the tables, on the floor, so allergens galore. If you have a nut allergy this is not the place for you. Also, CASH ONLY.
If you're looking for a welcoming spot, this nice German-style bar might just be the perfect place for you. They offer a great selection of draft beers, and the free fresh peanuts add a nice touch. It has a friendly atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and unwind, and you can even enjoy a fun game of board darts with friends. It's a great place to make some memories!
Outstanding spot — especially if you have a dog! We were driving through during a road trip and it was a very rainy day. We have a dog with us and were hoping for a spot to watch football that was pet-friendly. The staff welcomed us heartily, got a water bowl for Annie the Dog, served us delicious German beer, and cultivated an excellent atmosphere for a rainy football-watching afternoon. Left us with a great impression of Syracuse. Would return any time.
Hands down the sweetest bartender I’ve ever met. From the moment my two friends and I sat down, Kai treated us like we’d been longtime regulars. She was incredibly welcoming, genuinely kind, and had this effortless way of making everyone feel comfortable. Her service was fast, her recommendations were spot-on, and her personality honestly made our whole night.
This place is great. Perfect place for the young professionals in downtown Syracuse, grad students, and anybody else who wants a unique experience. The beer in the glass boot is very cool. Really like the wood tables. If you’re looking for a new bar to check out, this is the place
My favorite bar in Syracuse as a Senior SU student. Pretty cool place with great vibes. Wish it wasn’t cash only and the prices were lower but what are you gonna do. Cool place.
If you like German bier and soccer (football), or any other sports, this is the place for you. They have a really good selection of German beirs, both in bottle and on tap. If you have a peanut allergy, I would suggest you stay far away. There are peanuts pretty much every where.
One of the few late-night weekday drinking establishments in the area, which is truly helpful to the out-of-town guest. Walking distance from several hotels, and sporting a pretty solid beer list, the cavernous space must be a treat on a game day. Peanuts on every picnic table for the eating, and reasonable (CASH ONLY) draft prices. It's clearly a younger crowd on balance but everyone is welcome. Loud 80s-90s alternative music is a plus, actually!
Nice venue and layout. The drink selection is good, and it is much more relaxed than most of the other downtown venues. However, as a result of this, it can get a bit crowded/crazy during peak hours. However, it is still one of my top downtown picks.
Really cool bar with a big beer selection. The pretzels are good and hot dogs are hot dogs. It's neat bringing your own food, it's kinda like having a picnic at a bar. More food options would be nice but you should know what you're getting into before coming here.
When we went in, we instantly received hostile looks from everyone and there was no one there to greet us or tell us what to do (like if we can just take a seat anywhere) We stood by the door for a good minute and then proceeded to move into the bar when no one came up to us, and still people were staring, giving us hostile looks, it was just not a good vibe. We left before we even tried anything because we found out it was cash only. Update: My second time going was a much better experience. We got the birthday boot (which is free, you just need to give a $40 cash deposit in case you break/steal the boot and they give it back to you after you bring back the boot)
Go here with friends. Lots of them. The kind of friends that you can get down to drinking with in a crowded tavern. If there's a game, it will be crowded. Get in early in that case so you can snag a table. This is a unique location in syracuse. It's not a place to go if you want to have a private conversation in a dark corner. It's the kind of place you go when you want your beer glass to have a handle. A place you go to watch classic football (soccer). A place you go when you feel like stomping around on peanut shells and getting a little rowdy. The only reason I gave it 4/5 instead of 5 is because they don't serve any food besides peanuts, and I am not always comfortable in crowds. I also like going out alone and this isn't a place I'd be likely to do that, unless I was a serious sports fan. They do let you bring in food from the outside though, so that's a huge plus. I think it's cash only, too.
Great customer service but for a little too rowdy with frat boys for my liking. I get it though, I was once young too. Very good imported German beers highly recommend
Decent selection of drafts bottles, but I was rather surprised at the high prices. Baskets of peanuts on the tables are a nice treat, but not sanitary by modern standards. I do look forward to returning and trying their pizzas. More to come on my next visit.
This is a fun venue. The seating is composed of long benches a la biergartens. There are also large boxes of peanuts on each table, which I personally love. The outdoor area is sparse, but when you actually are able to get a seat, it is very pleasant. Only issue here is that the music is way too loud for the venue.
Definitely the spot to go watch a soccer game and enjoy some fantastic beers that you won't typically see in other bars. Not to mention, if it's your birthday you get a free boot to drink!!( I think it's 3 or 4 liters ). The only issue I see is that it's a cash only bar, which isn't an issue for me but I know some people hate using an ATM due to the fees. But they do have an ATM if you need it. Just as a heads up, due to covid you should get there sooner than later due to the restrictions on being at full capacity.
Tight quarters for the bar seating area. Get in early and stay seated. Plenty of "picnic-table style" seating for whoever can't get in and sit at the bar area. Don't go if you're allergic to peanuts as it's a peel 'n toss bar (you can toss your shells on the floor) Very good crowd, mature people with no problems. Wide array of selection on craft beverages. No real kitchen, eat prior to. Enjoy!
Stopped in for a quick half-liter at around 7pm on a Tuesday. The place was practically empty. Big space with lots of barstool and bench-style seating. Very neat and well-kept space with nice biergarten/college decor around. Huge beer selection (as expected) and prices were fair. I paid $8 for half-liter of Duvel. There were also a few snack options, but not much. Two dart boards toward the back.
My friend and I stopped in on a hot Sunday afternoon. It was not busy and we were waited on upon sitting at the bar. The choices are extensive. We ended up with a liter of Southern Tier Blueberry tart I believe, topped off with lemonade making them Shandy’s. This was at the bartenders recommendation. This is the first time we have ordered a liter, they are so heavy you need two hands to drink. They were cold and refreshing for the first half but the heat quickly warmed and flattened the carbonation. I would recommend smaller pours if you want your beer cold. The special was a free hot dog with a liter purchase but upon inquiry they were out of hot dogs. It is a peanut bar but they do not have any other food options. $14 each for the Shandy’s. Pleasant staff with a German football vibe.
I tried to get into this place a few times it was always really crowded... not this time, there was only 10 people inside. Good beer selection and fun atmosphere.. like being in Germany for Octoberfest.
My friends and I love Wolff’s! Amazing place! But the last 3 times we’ve attempted to go, there was a private event every time and we were turned away. I don’t begrudge you for holding private events with tons of people, I’m sure it brings in a lot of money. But my issue is that we have no way of knowing. I looked on your website and Facebook page, and I tried calling and nobody answered. No sign of private event notices. Just find a way to announce which days you’re closed to the public and it’s no problem, I totally get it. My buddy and I both missed out on our birthday boots now because of this. Went out of our way to get there on weeknights only to be turned away. We would be loyal customers but it’s becoming difficult to find a reason to go back at this point! Just announce in Facebook when you’re closed! Not hard to do!
There’s no better atmosphere in Syracuse to watch some Premiere League soccer on the weekends. Has a sticky feeling inside, but the bartenders are always nice and the drinks never disappoint.
Traditional biergarten open air look, with a pretty decent selection of beers. No kitchen, but they do have soft pretzels (not great) & peanuts to snack on. *be aware if you have a peanut allergy that the back end has a table with a large open container of peanuts in the shell for free snacking... so expect that many tables will have people shelling and consuming peanuts*
Met a friend for a birthday "boot" at Wolff's. Having never visited, we were unprepared for the CASH ONLY bar. This would not have been an issue, except their ATM was out of order. We walked to an ATM nearby. It's 2022, and people rarely carry cash anymore. The atmosphere was nice, decorated European style. The music was so loud you couldn't have a conversation. No food except snacks. It was crowded, and people were having a good time, it just wasn't our jam.
No longer cares about soccer. No longer plays match audio and you have to "ask" for soccer games to be played on TV at the literal soccer bar downtown. Shame. Used to be really great spot.. still no food either. But Taylor swift music all day
This place is certainly a biergarten. Please be aware that this is a CASH BAR and that there is a very limited food menu. If you want a super casual atmosphere with peanut shells strewn across the floor then this is the place for you. I however, enjoy a more diverse food menu with my beer. I will not be visiting again
This has to be one of my most disappointing restaurant experiences. Food took over an hour and still managed to come wrong and cold. They mixed up our drink orders with another table and still tried charging us for their drinks (that we refused and never touched). The manager was rude and dismissive, he seemed more interested in talking with some of his younger, female wait staff. I cannot recommend this experience to anyone.
Ive enjoyed the atmosphere and beer many times, but I won’t go back as long as their security guard and his antics carry on. Last Saturday I was told I have to open my jacket before leaving. He physically grabbed my arm and followed my friends and I outside insisting he “has the right to touch us as a NYS security guard.” I won’t be going back until he’s gone.
Disgusting behavior from the staff. Putting their hands on women. Foul. Will never come baxk
This place used to be a great soccer bar with good vibes, community, and staff that understood what it was all about. Now it’s dirty, staff is standoffish, and caters to college students. Not sure current staff know the first thing about soccer. New management has completely ruined this place. I hope for their sake it’s a least profitable.
The bouncers at this event physically pushed me. I am a woman. I am 21 years old. They are probably about 35 years old. They physically manhandled handled me and pushed me out of the venue physically assaulted me Physically pushed me.
Came here on 5/21/22, Saturday at 9am as their hours indicate that’s when they open. Waited till 9:15am and finally left. Please change your hours or open when you’re supposed to? We planned our day around your published hours. Will give this place another try and will update this review then.
Drove over solo a little past 1 AM to say hello to some friends there for both a birthday party and for a graduation celebration. Parked across the street and was told that last call occurred and that therefore I wasn't allowed to come in (and that everyone would be kicked out at 1:30 AM). Explained the situation, that it was our graduation weekend, that it was maybe the last chance I could see some of my friends for the forseeable future, and that I would be there to say hello for 10 minutes if that was ok. Repeatedly denied entry and so I left. Understandable that this is policy, but I was only one person, clearly sober, and just trying to say goodbye to my friends that I might never see again post-graduation. I felt like the judgement call here was made in poor taste, especially since I've been to this bar many times over the past 4 years. Really left a poor impression as I leave Syracuse. I don't write reviews but honestly wanted to write one given what occurred today.
Went here for a private event. Security detail put his hands on a young woman I was with who was not involved with a situation at hand. He manhandled her and physically put his hands on her and put her hands on her and shoved her out the door. She was legal and NOT violent. This was absolutely unacceptable and extremely rude, inappropriate behavior from their employees, which caused emotional distress. This facility will not protect the guests inside its establishment, especially young women. Do not come here.
